LORD INCHIQUIN was composed by Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738), a blind Irish harpist often considered to be Ireland's national composer. He was an itinerant musician who traveled throughout Ireland composing and performing his tunes and often staying with lords and landowner's whose names he gave to many of his tunes. McIntire's arrangement is for a STRING ENSEMBLE for players at the INTERMEDIATE SKILL LEVEL in which all the players participate in a lively exchange of the melody and its variations. This package includes a score and separate sheet music for each instrument. Other string ensembles of Irish melodies by McIntire Carolan's Concerto and Sailor's Hornpipe available at this web site.

Published by Gary Hobart Arrington (A0.961701). The story of the song is largely true. James MacPherson was an outlaw in the North East of Scotland, one of the travelling people and the leader of a band of robbers. MacPherson was caught in Keith and hanged at the Cross of Banff on 16 November 1700. MacPherson was a fine fiddler, and he composed this tune the night before he was hanged and played it on the scaffold. Then he offered to give his fiddle to anyone who would play the tune at his wake. No-one would, so he smashed the fiddle. Anyone who had accepted it would have shown themselves to be a relative or friend of his and so liable to arrest themselves.The song is also known as 'MacPherson's Farewell'. Robert Burns rewrote the song, but these are the traditional lyrics. The tune is very popular amongst Scottish fiddlers.The pieces of MacPherson’s fiddle are displayed in the MacPherson Clan House Museum in Newtonmore.

Although Pepusch is now best known for his arrangement of the music for The Beggar's Opera, he composed many other works including stage and church music as well as concertos and continuo sonatas such as this work. This fun, easy piece for a trio of two violins and cello is accessible for the advanced beginning ensemble, and all other subsequent chamber group levels.

It soundsvery folk-like and it's possible he heard it being played by a band and decided to formally write it down.I took the original music and added a section to it that I composed which sounds stylistically right to give it a bit more length. This musicis great for wedding recessional or just if you want a lively background music piece for your reception or gig it is fun to play. I also did a string quartetarrangement and you will find that on SMP as well.

He was an itinerant musician who traveled throughout Ireland composing and performing his tunes. McIntire's arrangement is for a STRING ENSEMBLE (two violins and cello) of players at the INTERMEDIATE SKILL LEVEL in which all the players participate in a lively exchange of the melody and its variations. This package includes a score and separate sheet music for each instrument.
