Grieg: Anitra's Dance from Peer Gynt Suite for Violin & Piano
Violin and Piano
Piano,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549549 Composed by Edvard Grieg. …

Piano,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549549 Composed by Edvard Grieg. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards,World. 16 pages. Jmsgu3 #3507483. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549549). Duration: ca. 3:20, Score: 10 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 3 pages. A delicate masterpiece, not very difficult - suitable for a recital encore. Grieg Background In the first place, Edvard Grieg (1843 –1907) was a Norwegian composer as well as a concert pianist. As a matter of fact, most music historians consider him one of the foremost Romantic era composers. Consequently, his music is part of the international standard classical repertoire. Grieg moreover used Norwegian folk music in his own compositions. Consequently, he ushered Norwegian music to transnational consciousness. Furthermore, he forged a national musical identity for Norway. It is important to realize that he did this in a manner similar to Jean Sibelius in Finland, and Bedřich Smetana in Bohemia. Legacy Grieg is especially celebrated in the city of Bergen. For example, the city has erected numerous statues depicting Grieg. Specifically, the city has named a concert hall (Grieg Hall), a music school (Grieg Academy) and a professional choir (Edvard Grieg Kor) after him. As a matter of fact, there is also a museum located at his former home in Troldhaugen. Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (Op. 46) Grieg wrote incidental music for the purpose of illustrating a play by Ibsen known as Peer Gynt. The play includes, in particular, the famous selection entitled, In the Hall of the Mountain King. In this composition, Grieg indeed depicts the exploits of the scoundrel, Peer Gynt. In one famous episode, for example, Peer steals a bride at her wedding. For this reason, the people chase him, but soon Peer falls, thereupon striking his skull on a boulder. He wakens forthwith in a highland bounded by angry gnomes. Consequently, the music of In the Hall of the Mountain King represents the mad gnomes taunting Peer. Therefore, each time the theme repeats it gets louder and faster. In the end, Peer surprisingly escapes from the mountain. Holberg Suite and Misc. Summary It must be remembered that Grieg originally wrote his Holberg Suite for the piano. In other words, he only later arranged it for strings. Further, Grieg composed by and large many songs with lyrics by famous writers such as Heine, Goethe, Ibsen, Hans Christian Andersen, Rudyard Kipling, and others. On balance, Norwegian pianist Eva Knardahl recorded altogether Grieg’s whole piano catalog on LP in 1980. These recordings were released again on CD in 2006. In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life.Register for free lifetime revisions and updates at www.jamesguthrie.com

While I wait for sunsets I look at the sun and horizons And breathe freedom and my immortality Desire for the infinite, Who has not ever tried ? That need to know that the stronger we are Invincible and powerful without the burden of age Over the centuries and the millennia Always gorgeous 20 years old And then dance To the rhythm of the Vampire Do you feel my breath Let us give this eternal night And then dance The senses amplified sharp teeth let's see who can stop us around the fire like wolves, red eyes, a bit 'fierce, we move in packs, invisible and fast , we are thieves thoughts ,so forgotten who you were or roots or ties ,no land limits And then dance To the rhythm of the Vampire Do you feel my breath Let us give this eternal night And then dance The senses amplified sharp teeth let's see who can stop us The mania destroys Hunger afflicts us But it will not be the food that will satisfy Torments and regrets, sad feelings, Nightime falling erase them We are shadows at night ,The heart that no beats We languid slaves the Voodoo rituals The pale faces, The ambiguous smiles Put the cross, you will not need Strange characters So wild and free ,But in this society ,Nothing scarier ago I donate my blood every day to The state or the government the Vampires are we ,There are monsters and vultures Those imprisoned vampires, In the faded pages Elegant, charming, So beautiful and in high places and in they I recognize that mania that is also mine My hunger to know ,With food can not be satisfied And then dance ,And crossing that border Now there is an end to what I can imagine And then dance, I sad renegade I lost soul, Who do not know who to give my heart And then dance ,If you are not anyone ,If you lost in the journey You can not find a post to be filled Look in the mirror You can see my reflection? Piano,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522273 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Concert,Contemporary,Easter. 7 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #6475497. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522273). Colin Kirkpatrick’s Sanctus for violin and piano is a lyrical, elegiac melody that reflects the spirit of a bygone age. The musical language is tonal but slightly chromatic and has proved a popular item at recitals where it’s been played. The piano shares some of the melodic material with the violin and the music evokes peace and tranquility; there’s a brief yet passionate passage near the middle of the piece before the music returns to the quite place where it began. The highest note in the violin part is the A just above the treble staff (A5). It’s estimated that the standard is about ABRSM Grade 5. This work would make an excellent addition to a violin recital.

Piano,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1382422 Composed by Philip R Buttall. Children,Classical,Romantic Period,Traditional. 9 pages. PRB Music #742662. Published by PRB Music (A0.1382422). After being locked down by Covid, I had almost lost the will to live, let alone go on holiday again outside the UK. Two years before I had had a lovely time in Italy, visiting Rome, Pisa, Puccini's House, Florence, Sienna, and more. Almost at the end of the trip I stayed a couple of days with my dear musical friends in Perugia, where their then 8-year-old daughter, Martha, was making great strides forward on the violin (mum is a concert pianist and teacher, similarly dad, but on the clarinet. I had booked to stay in Cesena where they had moved two, and I had a lovely time here, two, adding Bologna, Rossini's Museum, Rimini and some of the Adriatic coast to my list of places visited. They, too, had had lockdowns, and cancellations, but quite by chance, the weekend I had planned to be in Cesena, was the rearranged date of a special outside concert in the imposing surroundings of Rocca Malatestiana, a medieval fortress than dominates the town. Martha was going to be performing a violin concerto by Rode, and her dad had adapted the orchestral accompaniment, so that the large clarinet ensemble could take its place on the night. It was a wonderful, moving evening, and Martha played so well. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house! When I knew I was visiting them this year, I wrote Martha a little fun piece, with piano accompaniment, that she might have been able to play while I was there. But because of the rescheduled concerto performance, there just wasn't enough time for her to learn and practise the piece with her violin teacher in Bologna. I even added an optional part for clarinet, so dad would not feel left out. Hopefully, one day, I might still hear Waltz for Martha played by its dedicatees! It's a kind of schmalzy Viennese Waltz, in the style of Kreisler and others! You can purchase the piano score and violin part here. The optional clarinet part is available FREE OF CHARGE - by emailing info@philiprbuttall.co.uk.

Zdes' khorosho - Serghei Rachmaninov

Piano,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.948808 Composed by Serghei Rachmaninov. Arranged by Adrian F. Pipas. 20th Century. 7 pages. Adrian F. Pipas #6642575. Published by Adrian F. Pipas (A0.948808). ЗдеÑÑŒ хорошо (Zdes' khorosho, How nice is here) was written in April 1902, in a sweet moment in the composer's life: he had overcome a creative block and had just married his cousin Natalia Sarina. Zdes' khorosho is n. 7 from Twelve Romances, op. 21, a beautiful song that talks about the bond between man, nature and God. It’s also a love song; One of the things I like the most is the balance between contemplation and passion that Rachmaninov accomplishes. The poem, by the Countess Glafira Adolfovna Einerling, a contemporary writer of the composer who wrote under the pseudonym of Galina, simply describes a sunset. I don't know if the landscape portrayed is similar to what Rachmaninov could see from his home but no doubt he felt it part of his own; he even changed the beginning of the poem so he said that the nice place was here. Zdes' khorosho is a song full of lyricism, seemingly simple but demanding for the singer (please pay attention to the pianissimo at the last verse, which seems to arise from nowhere), with an exquisite accompaniment. Some scholars think that the true essence of Rachmaninov is found in songs like that, rather than in his athletic piano concerts. In 1963, the Russian composer Vladimir Michailovich Jurowski (father and grandfather of conductors) orchestrated ten songs by Rachmaninov, including Zdes' khorosho, and there is a later orchestration of this song by Michael Rot. You know that I usually find it difficult to renounce the original piano versions, especially when the composer didn't orchestrated them, but I recommend you to listen to Anna Netrebko singing this song with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev. You might wonder why I don't share this version here, there are two reasons: first, I can’t do without that beautiful piano; two, I chose my version months ago (something that lately happens quite often). I said before that Zdes' khorosho is between contemplation and passion; Most of singers enhance the most contemplative perspective, that's the case of the lovely performance by Anna Netrebko. Others sing the most passionate version, like the one we’re listening today. Its tempo is faster than usual, it lasts about a minute and a half; maybe it would surprise you if you're used to slower versions. I hope you enjoy this song as much as me; I think this performance by Nicolai Gedda and Gerald Moore, recorded live in 1966, is wonderful.Source: Liederabend.cathttps://www.liederabend.cat/en/bloc/entrades/400-how-nice-it-is-here

Violin and piano - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q3900 Composed by Robert Schumann. Arranged by Emil Kross and Fritz Meyer. This edition: Sheet music. Edition Schott - Single Edition. Copyright 2009 Schott Music GmbH & Co. KG, Mainz. Downloadable. Op. 124/16. Schott Music - Digital #Q3900. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q3900). He gave a present to me and my little Marie of a delightful lullaby composed that Christmas afternoon, Clara Schumann noted in the family diary they shared. This Slumer Song of 1841 Robert Schumann later included as No. 16 in his collection of Albumblätter (Album Leaves) Op. 124. The collection of twenty miniatures for piano was written over a fairly long period of time: the first piedes were written in 1832/33 and the composer started work on the last piece, the Canon, in 1845. In 1853 Schumann had the idea of brining together barious individual pieces that didn't fit in anywhere else in a collection of Albumblätter that was published in December of the same year. It is a bright bouquet of poetic little piano pieces of moderate technical difficulty: there can be no comparsion with grand works such as his G minor piano sonata of Carnaval. These musical aphorisms were not intended for the concert hall, though, but for domestic music making: this is chamber music in the true sense of the term. After unpleasant wrangling that even involved going to court to obtain permission to marry Clara Wieck, there followed a time of intense productivity for Robert Schumann: 1840 was his year of songs and 1841 his year of symphonies. Their marriage, which eventually took place against the wishes of Schumann's father-in-law, and the birth of their first child on 1 September 1841 contributed much to his personal happiness. It was for Marie that the hyppy father now composed this Slumber Song, which has enjoyed great popularity ever since: a simple and tender lullaby, written by the father as a surprise ´gift. This lullgy lends itself very well to being performed on a melodic instrument with piano accompaniment, as in thes edition for violin.

It is important to realize that he did this in a manner similar to Jean Sibelius in Finland, and Bedřich Smetana in Bohemia.LegacyGrieg is celebrated in the city of Bergen. For example, the city has erected numerous statues depicting Grieg. Specifically, the city has named a concert hall (Grieg Hall), a music school (Grieg Academy) and a professional choir (Edvard Grieg Kor) after him. As a matter of fact, there is also a museum located at his former home in Troldhaugen.Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (Op. 46)Grieg wrote incidental music for the purpose of illustrating a play by Ibsen known as Peer Gynt. MÉDITATION - From the Opera Thaïs (for Violin and Piano accompaniment)

Piano Accompaniment, Violin - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Jules Massenet (1842-1912). Arranged by Flavio Regis Cunha. Romantic Period, Opera, Wedding, Graduation, Recital. Score, Solo Part. 12 pages. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha
This arrangement was modified in its edition and violin indications. A very clean piano part was written. Very good edition of the entire score.<br> <br> The Méditation is an instrumental entr'acte performed between the scenes of Act II in the opera Thaïs. In the first scene of Act II, Athanaël, a Cenobite monk, confronts Thaïs, a beautiful and hedonistic courtesan and devotée of Venus, and attempts to persuade her to leave her life of luxury and pleasure and find salvation through God. It is during a time of reflection following the encounter that the Méditation is played by the orchestra. In the second scene of Act II, following the Méditation, Thaïs tells Athanaël that she will follow him to the desert.<br> <br> The piece is in D major and is approximately five minutes long (although there are a number of interpretations that stretch the piece to over six minutes). Massenet may also have written the piece with religious intentions; the tempo marking is Andante religioso, signifying his intention that it should be played religiously (which could mean either strictly in the tempo or literally with religiously-founded emotion) and at walking tempo, or around 60 BPM. The piece opens with a short introduction, with the solo violin quickly entering with the motif. After the violin plays the melody twice, the piece goes into a section marked animato, gradually becoming more and more passionate (Massenet wrote poco a poco appassionato). The climax is reached at a place marked poco piu appassionato (a little more passion) and is then followed by a short cadenza-like passage from the soloist and returns to the main theme. After the theme is played twice, the soloist joins the piano while playing harmonics on the upper register as the piano quietly play below the solo line.

Jmsgu3 #3531355. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549723). Duration: ca. 7:00, Score: 12 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano: 7 pages. An epic choice for a recital or funeral. Fauré Background: In the first place, Gabriel Fauré 1845 –1924) was a famous French composer, musician, and educator. Furthermore, his musical ideas influenced numerous 20th-century composers. Therefore, historians regard him as one of the leading French composers of his time. Famous Works: Among his most famous compositions, by and large, are the Pavane, Elegie (op. 24), Requiem, Sicilienne, Nocturnes for piano and the songs Après un rêve and Clair de lune. Inasmuch as his early works are well-known and relatively easy to perform, Faure’s music seems to have become gradually more difficult during his later life. In other words, his later works are somewhat esoteric and complex. Early Home Life: Fauré was in fact born into a well-cultivated family. His aptitude for music became particularly clear early on - when he was still a boy. Under these circumstances, his parents sent him to a music institution in Paris. Consequently, the training he received there prepared him for a career as a church organist and choirmaster. Middle Life: It is important to realize that Fauré studied music composition with the French musical mastermind Camille Saint-Saëns, who became his lifelong friend. Fauré eventually graduated from college and earned a living as an organist and educator. During this period, he had, on the whole, little time to compose. He consequently became more successful in his middle age, becoming organist of the Église de la Madeleine and director of the Paris Conservatoire. However, he still needed time on balance for composing. Therefore, given these points, he withdrew to the countryside during the summer to focus on composing. Later Life: Fauré was, in the final analysis, recognized in France as the foremost French composer of his time. The French government held a national musical tribute particularly for him in Paris. The French President notably headed the ceremony. Elsewhere, on the contrary, Fauré's music was slow to become accepted, except of course, in England. Legacy: Historians often describe Fauré's music in general as a transition between the end of Romanticism and the beginning of modernism. As an illustration, when Fauré was born, Chopin was still composing. However, by the time of Fauré's death, jazz and atonal music, in particular, had come to fruition. Fauré, by all means, suffered from increasing deafness in his later years. Some musicologists believe this to be indeed the cause of the esoteric nature of Faure’s final works.

Piano,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549485 Composed by Felix Mendelssohn (1809 –1847). Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. 20 pages. Jmsgu3 #3500555. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549485). VIOLIN & PIANO - Score: 11 pages, solo part: 3 pages, piano part: 5 pages. Duration: 4:20. This is a popular recital piece that would work well also in church or school programs. Mendelssohn Background Felix Mendelssohn (1809 –1847) was, by all means, a German mastermind composer, musician, and orchestra conductor of the Romantic period. Consequently, Mendelssohn composed in the usual forms of the time - symphonies, concertos, oratorios, piano music, and chamber music. To summarize, his most famous works include his music for A Midsummer Night's Dream, the Italian Symphony, the Scottish Symphony, The Hebrides Overture, his later Concerto for Violin & Orchestra, and his Octet for Strings. His most well-known piano pieces, by and large, are the Songs Without Words. Artistic Standing  Musical tastes change from time to time. Moreover, just such a change occurred in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This plus rampant antisemitism brought a corresponding amount of undue criticism. Fortunately, however, his artistic inventiveness has indeed been critically re-evaluated. As a result, Mendelssohn is once again among the most prevalent composers of the Romantic era. Early Family Life Mendelssohn was, in fact, born into a prominent Jewish family. His grandfather was, notably, the philosopher Moses Mendelssohn. Felix was, in fact, raised without religion. At the age of seven, he was suddenly baptized as a Reformed Christian. He was, moreover, a child musical prodigy. Nevertheless, his parents did not attempt to exploit his talent. Early Adulthood Mendelssohn was, in general, successful in Germany. He conducted, in particular, a revival of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, specifically with his presentation of the St Matthew Passion in 1829. Felix was truly in demand throughout Europe as a composer, conductor, and soloist. For example, he visited Britain ten times. There, he premiered, namely, many of his significant works. His taste in music was. To be sure, inventive and well-crafted yet markedly conservative. This conservatism separated him by all means from more audacious musical colleagues like Liszt, Wagner, and Berlioz. Mendelssohn founded the Leipzig Conservatoire which, to clarify, became a defender of this conservative viewpoint. Mature Adulthood Schumann notably wrote that Mendelssohn was the Mozart of the nineteenth century, the most brilliant musician, the one who most clearly sees through the contradictions of the age and for the first time reconciles them. This observation points to a couple of features in particular that illustrate Mendelssohn's works and his artistic procedure. Musical Features In the first place, his musical style was fixed in his systematic mastery of the style of preceding masters. This being said, he certainly recognized and even developed early romanticism from the music of Beethoven and Weber. Secondly, it indicates that Mendelssohn sought to strengthen his inherited musical legacy rather than to exchange it with new forms and styles or replace it with exotic orchestration. Consequently, he diverged his contemporaries in the romantic period, such as Wagner, Berlioz, and Liszt. Mendelssohn revered Liszt's virtuosity at the keyboard but found his music rather insubstantial.

Instrumental Duet Instrumental Duet,Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1030742 Composed by Jesus J. Martinez. Contemporary. Score and parts. 1 pages. Jesus Martinez Music #2019881. Published by Jesus Martinez Music (A0.1030742). PROGRAM NOTES: The Spear of Destiny is titled and inspired by the supposed spear that was used to kill Jesus Christ. The spear is said to have extraordinary powers. He who possesses it will rule the world and he who loses it thereafter will die an untimely death. The last person recorded to have had it was Adolf Hitler. This musical composition journeys through the time of Hitler and his obsession to obtain the spear, his atrocious acts during his tenure of the spear, and the loss of the spear. The spears main thematic motions are the glissandos in the violin that represent the spears anger and tortuous ways. I. Spear Found takes place during his times as an understudy of Dietrich Eckart, a dedicated satanist and figure in the Occult Thule Society and founding member of the Nazi party. Dietrich said: Follow Hitler! He will dance, but it is I who have called the tune! I have initiated him into the Secret Doctrine' opened his centres in vision and given him the means to communicate with the Powers. Do not morn for me; I shall have influenced history more than any other German. Hitler became enamored with the Spear of Destiny, which claimed it called to him. Spear Found, is Hitler's journey to capturing the spear to rule the world. II. Spear Possessed begins with no time meter or key signature. It is ad liberty of the performers and is a musical representation of the spears possessive powers towards evil. This movement takes place during the time of the Holocaust and the actions committed during Hitler's reign of world domination. The movement infers a jewish folk song titled, Dayeinu, a jewish Passover song meaning it would have been enough. This song is set in context of freedom. The movement goes through variations of Dayeinu and the spears version of a possessed Dayeinu. The violin has fast and rapid rhythms with small thematic material of the folk tune. At the end of the movement, the piano strikes the low end of the piano with a soft yarn mallet to symbolize the bombs dropping and the start of World War II. III. Spear Lost takes place during WWII and the Marines efforts to take down Hitler's reign. During the 3rd movement, the Marine Corps music comes to life as they take control of the spear and ultimately end the war. The Spear however, takes its last stand as the spears motif soars over the possessed marine tune. At the end of the movement, the spear is once again screeching as it survives and goes missing once again.

Lascia ch’io Pianga is a beautiful aria from Handel’s Opera Rinaldo The opera premiered in London in 1711 and during his lifetime was the most successful of Handel’s operas. The pdf file contains both the piano score and a separate solo part. You can listen to a full performance of this arrangement on Clarinet via the YouTube link above.Musicians at an early intermediate level and above will find Lascia ch’io Pianga ideal for formal and informal performances, with both the solo and accompaniment enjoying melodic interest. Piano,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1118327 Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by David McKeown. 20th Century,Jazz,Ragtime. 33 pages. David McKeown #719845. Published by David McKeown (A0.1118327). Scott Joplin is celebrated as the United States’ first well-known black composer, making his name as a writer of piano rags. His life was a constant struggle with adversity, and Joplin died relatively young in 1917, at the dawn of the recording age. Few remembered Joplin’s music until a revival in the 1970s brought The Entertainer and others to the world’s attention. Nowadays Scott Joplin has taken his rightful place in the gallery of great American composers. Instrumental Duet,Piano Instrumental Duet,Piano,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1046277 By Georg Neumark and Sharon Wilson. By Georg Neumark. Arranged by Sharon Wilson. Praise & Worship,Romantic Period,Sacred. Score and parts. 22 pages. Sharon Wilson #650783. Published by Sharon Wilson (A0.1046277). This deeply moving hymn is arranged as an instrumental trio (for two VIOLINS with PIANO accompaniment). Verse 1 and 3 are the same with VIOLIN 1 playing the melody. Verse 2 is slower and quieter with the two VIOLINS alternating leading with the melody. The piano provides a flowing, delicate accompaniment throughout. After a faith-building experience when Georg Neumark claimed the promise found in Psalm 55:22, he wrote the lyrics to this song: If you but trust in God to guide you and place your confidence in him, you'll find him always there beside you to give you hope and strength within…. The range for each part is as follows: VIOLIN 1 – F#4 to B5; VIOLIN 2 – F#4 to G5. All notes for both VIOLINS are playable in the first position making this arrangement an excellent choice for early-intermediate string players. The PIANO accompaniment is written for an intermediate player. The purchase price includes these printing options: 1. a grand staff (9 pages) with all parts on each page2. separate scores for each VIOLIN part (2 pages each) and PIANO (4 pages)3. a combined VIOLIN 1 and VIOLIN 2 score (3 pages) This hymn represents PATIENCE and is one of the 10 songs in the collection inspired by Galatians 5:22-23: The Fruit of the Spirit (10 Hymns for Violin Duet with Piano Accompaniment) Visit Sharon Wilson's website: www.SharonWilsonMusic.comSubscribe to her YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/user/SharonWilsonMusic

Piano,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1316468 By DaCapo Primary Music. By Peter Furniss. Children,Classical,Folk,Instructional,Traditional. 68 pages. DaCapo Primary Music #905203. Published by DaCapo Primary Music (A0.1316468). Brilliant solos for beginner violin with piano accompaniments. The tunes in this collection of concert pieces have been adapted from traditional folk and children’s songs and given a whole new lease of life with entertaining and imaginative piano accompaniments. There are two versions of each piece – one technically easier than the other. The keys are those needed for early graded exams and there is scope to extend the key ranges and explore octave displacements, varied articulation, slurrings, different fingerings etc. These possibilities are not always marked in the score as it is hoped that the teacher can encourage pupils to bring their own ideas to each piece. The imaginative and varied piano parts give the performer much more than just a chord structure as support for their playing and the accompanying CD can be used once they are able to play the pieces with ease.Designed to be the first concert pieces for a beginner to be played with a pianist or at home with the CD, giving the audience entertaining music to listen to whilst giving the player a real sense of a serious performance. In Concert is the final workings of songs that were commissioned to teach music to children systematically using relative solfa. The songs (all old English folk songs) were reworded to make for entertaining material for children whilst they learn the basic elements and skills of music making. The songs are contained in The First DaCapo Songbook and are brought together as a singing performance in The Farmyard Suite. In Concert is the instrumental version of this. You can find more DaCapo pieces for young instrumentalists at DaCapo Music Shop

Handel: Largo from Xerxes for Violin & Piano

Violin & Piano - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759). Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque Period, General Worship, Repertoire, Wedding, Recital. Score, Set of Parts. 9 pages. Published by jmsgu3
Duration: 4:55, Score: 6 pages, Solo part: 1 page, piano part: 2 pages. A very famous aria (Ombra mai fu) from "Xerxes"<br> Suitable for any venue requiring meditative music. Excellent choice for a recital encore.<br> <br> Xerxes<br> Xerxes is, in fact, an opera seria in three acts by Handel. Moreover, Handel conducted the premiere performance in London in 1738. Handel casts the opera in Persia in 470 BC. The part of Xerxes was indeed originally sung by a soprano castrato. Nowadays, the part is generally sung by a mezzo-soprano or conversely a counter-tenor. In the first place, Xerxes sings an opening aria, Ombra mai fu to a plane tree. Handel sets this aria to one of his most truly famous melodies. Although many refer to it traditionally as Handel’s “Largo,” Handel has, on the contrary, clearly marked "Larghetto" in the score.<br> <br> Handel Background<br> George Frideric Handel (1685 - 1759) was born in Germany, but eventually became a British citizen. Nonetheless, he was a famous Baroque composer. In fact, he became famous for his operas, oratorios, anthems, and organ concertos. Handel studied music and, by and large, worked as a composer in Germany and Italy before moving to London. On the whole, Handel was very familiar with the contemporary music of Italy and Germany.<br> <br> Career in England<br> It is important to realize that Italian opera was all the rage in England at the time. Moreover, Handel was really good at writing them. Therefore, he started not one but three opera companies in England. Alexander's Feast was a huge success in 1736, but Handel nevertheless began composing English choral works. After success with the Messiah in 1742) he certainly never again wrote an Italian opera. Consequently, he died in 1759, a treasured genius. Accordingly, the English government gave him full state honors at his funeral. Hence, he is buried in Westminster Abbey in London.<br> <br> Legacy<br> Music historians agree that Handel was in general one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era. To demonstrate, his works such as the Messiah, Water Music, and Music for the Royal Fireworks remain consistently popular up to the present time. He especially composed the coronation anthem, Zadok the Priest for the coronation of George II. Nevertheless, it has specifically been performed at every succeeding British coronation since. His oratorio Solomon has by all means also continued to be prevalent. As a matter of fact, the Sinfonia from act 3 was featured the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony. Handel was particularly prolific. To enumerate, he wrote over forty operas. Since the late 1960s, we have expressly experienced a revival of baroque music. Similarly, we have especially seen a pique of interest in historically informed musical performance. Since his death in 1779, interest in Handel's music has, all in all, expanded.<br> <br> <br> <br> Register for free lifetime updates and revisions of this product at www.jamesguthrie.com.
