String Orchestra - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by trad. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century, European, Patriotic. Score, Set of Parts. 10 pages. Published by Music for all Occasions
Londonderry Air arranged for String Orchestra.<br> <br> A big band version of the song is used as the theme for The Danny Thomas Show (a.k.a. Make Room For Daddy).<br> <br> "Danny Boy" was used to represent Northern Ireland at the start of the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, sung by a choir of children on the Giant’s Causeway.<br> <br> On November 25, 2014, the Vancouver Canucks used the song in honor of the recently deceased Pat Quinn, who played and worked in many executive capacities for the team.<br> <br> There are various theories as to the true meaning of "Danny Boy". Some listeners have interpreted the song to be a message from a parent to a son going off to war or leaving as part of the Irish diaspora.<br> <br> The 1918 version of the sheet music included alternative lyrics ("Eily Dear"), with the instructions that "when sung by a man, the words in italic should be used; the song then becomes "Eily Dear", so that "Danny Boy" is only to be sung by a lady". In spite of this, it is unclear whether this was Weatherly’s intent.<br> <br> Why the name Londonderry Air? Londonderry and Derry refer to the same place, a city in the north of Ireland, and also to the surrounding county. Supposedly the city of Derry was founded by St. Colmcille, although archaeological evidence shows that people were living there thousands of years earlier. There is an excellent museum in the city, which is worth a visit if you want to find out more. The name of the city was actually "Doire", corrupted to "Derry" by people who can’t pronounce Irish. It thought to derive from an Irish root meaning "oak tree".<br> <br> Moving quickly along in history, about a millenium later the government of England was having a difficult time colonizing Ireland because of the fierce and warlike clans living there, especially in the north of the country, Ulster. The monarchs of England, almost all of whom were notorious cheapskates, were continually looking about for ingenious ways to conquer places without actually having to put up the money themselves, or run the risk of unpopularity if they lost. In the case of Ireland, some of these schemes of the "Brish gummit" (as it is termed nowadays in Ulster) are still producing unfortunate long-term consequences.<br> <br> In 1608, King James I gave the city of Derry to the City of London corporation. I guess the deal could be summed up by saying that if the City of London could figure out a way to chase all the inhabitants out of Derry, they would be allowed to keep the loot, minus a percentage for the King of course. If they lost, well too bad. In celebration of this historic agreement, the name of Derry was officially changed to Londonderry. (For further information, check out the Northern Ireland Tourist Board’s History of Derry.)<br> <br> The linguistic outcome of all this today is that, if you think that King James’s deal with the City of London was a good idea, you call both the city and county "Londonderry". If you do, you are probably a supporter of the Unionist movement that seeks to keep Ulster a part of the United Kingdom. If you think it was a bad idea, you call both "Derry", and you are probably a supporter of the Irish Nationalist cause. Or you might just be someone who thinks it’s confusing for kings to be going around changing the names of places all the time for no good reason.<br> <br> You can find plenty of discussion about the political side of the question elsewhere, but here let’s look at the musical side. We have an air, collected in county Derry/Londonderry, and it doesn’t have a title. What do we call it?<br> <br> If you were a proper Victorian, there’s no way you were going to call it the Londonderry Air, much less the Derry Air, because of the improper sentiments that these titles might suggest. My parents tell me that in their youth in Australia, it was usually called the Air from County Derry. (This would, I suppose, support Winston Churchill’s theory that Australia was inhabited by "convicts and Irishmen".)<br> <br> My mother also sends the following information, referring to an arrangement of the tune by the Australian composer Percy Grainger:<br> <br> Just another note about Danny Boy, that I grew up in Australia believing to be the Air from County Derry. We were looking through some LP’s last night (back to vinyl yet!) and found a Mercury Wing Classical Favorites stereo LP SRW18060, COUNTRY GARDENS and other favorites by Percy Grainger {played by} Eastman-Rochester Pops, Frederick Fennell, conducting. The cover notes included the following: "Irish Tune from County Derry was harmonised in memory of Irish childhood friends in Australia." Considered by many to be Grainger’s masterpiece of harmonization, the tune was collected many years ago by Miss Jane Ross of New Town, Limavady, Ireland. Grainger has set it for many instrumental combinations. So there’s another variant on the name for it. It doesn’t say who wrote the notes, but the bits in quotes for each of the works on the record are Grainger’s original comments.<br> <br> The references to Londonderry Air that I’ve seen don’t go back any earlier than the late 1930s. For example, the Glenn Miller Orchestra recorded Danny Boy (Londonderry Air) in February 1940. Bing Crosby’s version was recorded in July 1941 (reference). (So many different things I could check up on!) Londonderry was an important American naval base during WWII, but the US hadn’t come into the war in 1940.<br> <br> Need an anthem fast? String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.799741 Composed by Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov. Arranged by Grant Gilman. 20th Century,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 147 pages. Dr. Grant Gilman #3511981. Published by Dr. Grant Gilman (A0.799741). Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade - I. The Sea and Sinbad’s Ship Pick-A-Part Arrangement for String Orchestra by Dr. Grant Gilman String Orchestra Parts in This Pick-A-Part Arrangement Violin 1A Violin 1B Violin 1C Violin 2A Violin 2B Violin 2C Viola A Viola B Viola C Cello A Cello B Cello C Bass A Bass B Bass C Harp/Keyboard (optional)About Pick-A-Part Arrangement This arrangement system employs simultaneous, multi-level difficulty parts for each string section. The goal is to accommodate all levels of playing in the preparation and performance of a symphonic masterwork. In this arrangement, there are 3 difficulty levels for each individual string section, labeled A, B, and C, respectively. Each level is a decreasing level of technical and musical difficulty, level A being the highest level of difficulty. The A level is close to, if not exactly the same as, the original string part, plus the integration of wind parts when applicable. B and C follow in a proportional reduction of difficulty level. For this solution to be most effective, some students should be encouraged to play the most challenging parts simultaneously with those playing the simpler parts. This presents the opportunity to participate in a performance that includes most of the original material. The B and C parts cover enough of the surface material while maintaining a modicum of independence from the A part. In other words, the B and C parts are able to hold their own in performance without the A parts. For example, let’s say you have a couple of talented violinists and a few more that are well below their playing level, only two violists that need a great deal of help, a plethora of cellists with a wide range of abilities, and one single bass player that is a beginner. Your distribution of parts may look something like this: Violin 1 - two on Violin 1A, one on Violin 1C, and the rest on Violin 1B Violin 2 - one on Violin 2B, the rest on Violin 2C Viola - both on Viola C Cello - three on Cello A, one on Cello B, and the rest on Cello C Bass - one on Bass C This potential setup will challenge each player at their current level of development while creating the context for a moving experience with a major orchestral work. A Note about the Score and Printing The full score is designed to be printed in portrait orientation on 17x11 tabloid size paper. Even at this size, the score can be confusing to read, especially if you are not covering every difficulty level part. If you would like a custom score showing only the parts you are using, please email me: conductor@grantgilman.com. I will be happy to work with you!www.grantgilman.comwww.americanmusepodcast.com

Score and Parts. 81 pages. Michael Linert #829179. Published by Michael Linert (A0.1233596). Play and Sing Un Poco Loco from Disney's Coco!  This Multi-Level Masterpiece arrangement is scored for mariachi and string orchestral ensembles in a festival arrangement with a variety of levels from first-year players and beyond! Watch and Listen on YouTube! --> https://youtu.be/V1wBfV9cxFYEach purchase of this score/parts allows for 40 musicians to use this sheet music for one calendar year from purchase date. Here is some information to help make this arrangement work best! 1.    All parts in this arrangement can be played simultaneously in a festival-style performance. 2.    The most basic way to play this piece and have it sound like the piece would be to have the violin or viola part (normal or advanced) and a bass instrument (guitarrón, bass, or cello) playing while one or more singers play. 3.    Instruments could play the vocal parts, if necessary. 4.    Adding the foundational, normal, or advanced armonia (guitar, vihuela, or other chordal instruments) would enhance quite a bit. 5.    Adding the normal or advanced trumpet parts would add another layer. Their part doubles the violin/viola parts in most places, but there’s a part near the middle where their part varies to add complexity to the counterpoint. 6.    The foundational violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, and trumpet parts (normal sheet music) are in unison. They are a mixture of melody/harmonic writing and the bass parts. These parts should be played alongside 2 and 3 listed above. (4 and 5 too if you can!) 7.    The Foundational Notes sheets are one note per measure. In this piece, they are the main tonic chord tones. In this piece (but not in all Multi-Level Masterpieces), they also happen to be the basic major chords. These parts should be played alongside 2 and 3 listed above. (4, 5, and 6 too, if you can!)8.    If you have questions or happen to notice mistakes along the way, please do let me know (ML@michaellinert.com). My current terms of use at the time of publishing allow for use of this sheet music for one year from purchase date. This is so that I can continue to enhance these Multi-Level Masterpieces based on feedback from people performing them! I will likely also add additional instrumental parts (mainly band/general music) in the future. Thank you, and I hope you will enjoy!

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.869398 Composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 38 pages. Thomas Oboe Lee #432015. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869398). Instrumentation: Violins 1a. Violins 1b. Violins 2a. Violins 2b. Viola. Cello. Double bass. Program note. I go to Rome every year during my winter break from teaching. My favorite statue in the Galleria Borghese is Bernini's Apollo and Daphne. It is amazingly alive and beautiful. When the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston asked me to write a work for string orchestra, I immediately thought of the fabulous Apollon Musagète by Stravinsky. Wouldn't it be fun to write a companion piece to the Stravinsky and call it Daphne? And since the Stravinsky Apollo is a ballet, my Daphne would be one as well, although an imaginary one. Daphne is in three sections. 1. Moderato ... Apollo struts around at a party, flirting with the nymphs and then suddenly he notices Daphne. He falls in love immediately. 2. Fuga ... Unnerved by Apollo's attention, Daphne flees. Apollo chases after her. 3. Largo ... Apollo catches up to Daphne and declares his love for her. She struggled to free herself from him and calls for help. To save Daphne from Apollo, her father Ladon, the river god, transforms Daphne into a laurel tree. Curtain.Audio link. Maestoso and Fugue in D minor for String Orchestra - Based on Ludwig van Beethoven Unv 7 Hess 40 & O
String Orchestra
String Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.933521 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven…
(+)
String Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.933521 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven, Cees Nieuwenhuizen. Arranged by Upstream Music. Classical. Score and parts. 18 pages. Upstream Music #6353295. Published by Upstream Music (A0.933521). Both the Adagio molto (Hess 40) and the unfinished, originally intended Fugue date from November, 1817. It was the publisher Tobias Haslinger who requested a prelude and fugue for a publication in line with works published earlier. Beethoven completed the prelude but with the fugue he stopped after merely four bars of music. The short original fugue theme was later inserted into the second part (Molto vivace) of the Ninth Symphony (Opus 125).The prelude (Beethoven did not give any time indication) starts with 37 bars of solemn music followed by 12 bars Allegro. In terms of form, rhythm, and key, this material shows great similarity to the Molto vivace from Opus 125 referred to above. The present version has been arranged for a string orchestra instead of for a string quintet, thus being the first publication which enables it to be performed in its entirety. In order to balance the foundation, I opted for introducing a contrabass part, which largely follows the cello part composed by Beethoven. As regards the phrasing, dynamics, and rests as well as the time indication, this publication follows those in Willy Hess’ publication. So the prescribed time ‘Adagio molto’ is not that of Beethoven himself. The arguments to link the Maestoso to the Fugue in D major (Opus 137) published later are multiple. In the first place, the Fugue also dates from 1817. Secondly, the key is the same as is the number of instruments for a string quintet with two separate alto parts. Not only does the original fugue theme start at the tone a, but the timing too is the same, that is 3/8. So it seems reasonable to assume that Beethoven intended both works as a couple. The abnormal rhythmics of the bars 38 up to and including 49 is remarkable. I have preserved it because the part has been authentically composed by Beethoven, while it did not seem logical to me to have it immediately followed by the Fugue completed by myself. I have composed a number of bars of music based on the beginning of the prelude by way of a smooth transition. In the Fugue, I closely adhere to Beethoven, at the same time introducing a contrabass part here as well, so as to support the cello. At a number of places in the score, Beethoven recorded neither music nor rests. This refers to the bars 5 (second viola and cello), 11, 12, 25 and 26 (first and second violins), 39 to 41 (all parts), 43 and 44 (all parts except the first violin), 45 (first viola) and finally 45 and 46 (second violin). As in Willy Hess’ publication, I have just inserted rests here.

Published by Yoel Epstein (A0.773313). This volume contains songs for every national US holiday. The songs are arranged for beginning string orchestra (all first position), with additional parts for violin, viola and cello using open strings only. An accompaniment track is available at https://youtu.be/SlkbjfKBdjc . So you can play this with the accompaniment and any combination of parts. If there are no violists, or if the cello part is too hard for your students, you can play the songs with the accompaniment, and it will sound fine. In fact, I have performed this piece with the violin open string parts only, along with the accompaniment. Important: This volume contains the scores and one copy of the parts. String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.521589 Composed by Camille Saint Saëns. Arranged by Sherry Lewis. Holiday,Opera,Romantic Period,Wedding. Score and Parts. 32 pages. Sherry Lewis Publishing #6230125. Published by Sherry Lewis Publishing (A0.521589). My Heart At Thy Sweet Voice, String Orchestra (String Quintet), Intermediate Level for 1st and 2nd violins, viola, cello, string bass Score: 17 pages parts: 12 page time: 5'40 ABOUT THE DEMO....I took a big cut including the intro to get to the better-known tune but the actual arrangement is complete from beginning to end. I used the original score and true to form. Such a beautiful piece. Really comes off great in strings. MY QUARTET VERSIONS, in short notice usually work fine for solo, two parts and three parts however I also offer individual versions for one, two and three parts that are more detailed for these ensembles. Please visit https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/search?Ntt=sherry+lewis+publishing for all of the titles I offer. If you can’t find a title then contact me through stringquartet@hotmail.com and I’ll give you the link back to Sheet Music Plus’s listing. VERSATILE Titles that include four parts are written with the idea that they can be performed with 1, 2, 3 or 4 musicians. Most of the contemporary/popular titles include a chord chart for a bass instrument. PRACTICE needs would vary according to the level of the performers but my goal is to be sight-readable for most performers and groups. AUDIO SAMPLE The 30 second mp3 is frequently shortened and may not start at the introduction to get to the reprise. The actual introduction will be in the sheet music. LISTENABILITY I have performed thousands of weddings and special events. I make it a goal for the music to carry as well as possible through loud and large space situations. ARRANGEMENTS usually follow the original version. There is an mp3 where you can hear 30 seconds and get a feeling of the originality of the work. EXCELLENT for corporate events, weddings, social gatherings and recitals. APPROPRIATE for students and schools. CHURCH REPERTOIRE I’m always adding more titles. Thank you for your purchase!

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1042428 By Kevin Bruce Weed. …

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1042428 By Kevin Bruce Weed. By Kevin Bruce Weed. Arranged by Kevin Bruce Weed. 20th Century,Baroque,Classical,Contest,Festival,Traditional. Score and parts. 86 pages. Kevin Bruce Weed #647213. Published by Kevin Bruce Weed (A0.1042428). With a challenging solo, this piece was written to be very easy for a high school orchestra with few rehearsals, though college, community and professional ensembles may find it to be a charming addition to a concert or recording project. It is a piece you could use to include a good pianist, student or adult, as a guest with your string orchestra. Although written for harpsichord, the solo part could be played on any keyboard, piano or organ. The soloist should adjust dynamics, articulations, and tone colors to best compliment the instrument and accompanying orchestra. It is written in three movements, but the intention is to play through the piece with no stops. You may omit the usual listing of movement tempo markings in your printed program. The string parts are quite easy. However, the second movement is primarily a duet between solo violin and harpsichord. Let me know if you buy this. I would love to hear your questions, comments, performance. https://kevinweed.com/harpsichord-concerto/.
