String orchestra or 12 solo- strings - Digital Download For string orchestra or 12 solo strings. Composed by Gyorgy Ligeti (1923-2006). This edition: study score. Music Of Our Time. Downloadable. Duration 9 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q2702. Published by Schott Music - Digital
Ramifications represents a further development of my method of composition with complex musical net-formations. it is, as it were, a terminus in the development from dense and static to broken-up and mobile. The title refers to the polyphonic technique of the part-writing. in one skein, individual parts that are twisted together move in divergent directions so that the strand of the voice gradually become disentangled. The total form is made up of the alternation of ramification and unification of the parts and of the rents or bunching together of the net-formation that ensues from this. And as well as that, there are in this piece new aspects of a micro-tonal harmony. Even earlier I was occasionally working with deviations from the equal temperament (Requiem, Volumina, Harmonies, Second String Quartet). But what is new here is the consistent application of an idea of hyperchromatic harmony. This is made possible by one half of the string instruments being tuned a quarter-tone higher than the others. From the automatically ensuing differences in intonation when the instruments are played, arises a fluctuation in pitch such that one can hardly ever hear exact quarter-tone intervals. In only a few dense places approximative quarter-tone clusters result. apart from that we find a totally new kind of uncertain harmony, as though the harmonies had rotted: thex have a strong taste and decay has permeated the music.<br> - Gyorgy Ligeti.

Largo from the New World Symphony for String Orchestra

String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1431642 By Keith Terrett. By Antonin Dvorak. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Classical,Contest,Festival,Historic,Instructional,Romantic Period. 9 pages. Keith Terrett #1012118. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1431642). Transcribed for String Orchestra the second movement of the New World Symphony is introduced by a harmonic progression of chords in the wind instruments. Beckerman interprets these chords as a musical rendition of the narrative formula Once upon a time. Then a solo cor anglais (English horn) plays the famous main theme in D-flat major accompanied by muted strings. Dvořák was said to have changed the theme from clarinet to cor anglais as it reminded him of the voice of Harry Burleigh. The movement's middle section contains a passage in C♯ minor evoking a nostalgic and desolate mood which eventually leads into a funeral march above pizzicato steps in the basses. It is followed by a quasi-scherzo that incorporates this movement's theme as well as the first movement's main and closing themes. The Largo is concluded with the soft return of the main theme and introductory chords. For more of my original music, great arrangements and all the national anthems of the world, check out my on-line stores: https://www.scoreexchange.com/profiles/keithterrett1 http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/search?Ntt=keith+terrett Need an anthem fast? String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1201464 By Vessela Stoyanova. By Vessela Stoyanova. Folk,Multicultural,World. Score and parts. 89 pages. Vessela Stoyanova #798931. Published by Vessela Stoyanova (A0.1201464). “Mountain Goats and Other Creatures†was Commissioned by Rachel Jayson and the Lexington High School Symphony Orchestra. It was inspired by the folk music of my native land of Bulgaria, informed by my experience as a rock musician, reimagined through the lense of my place inside of a community of like-minded artists and musicians, where I have made my real home today. The first movement - Mountain Goats - is a sort of celebration of renewal, promise, and hope. It represents the tenacious will of grass growing through the snow of early spring, the powerful longing for human connection, the warmth of the sun against your skin on a bright chilly day. It carries both the pristine optimism of youth, and the nervous energy of trying something for the first time. The second movement - Samodivi - in contrast is dark, heavy and full of passion and desire. According to Balkan myths, Samodivi are gorgeous nymphs who live in the woods and often seduce men with their beautiful song and dance. They are feared and envied at the same time. The music of the second movement represents the mysterious dark forest at night - lower strings create the moss under your feet, higher strings use extended techniques to simulate the noise of branches clicking the wind, a few soloists represent different creatures - both real and imaginary - scurry through the woods above your head. Then you hear the lone song of a Samodiva in the distance, your heart is beating hard, your steps are leading you straight towards the call against your better judgement. It is the ancient story of fear and desire, of self control and complete abandon. You, the listener, become witness to a wild dance, fire in the woods, snakes in their long blond hairs, slender bodies dressed in white clouds dancing to an imaginary beat.  Then it all ends abruptly and you left to wonder: Was it real? Did I see it? Am I safe? The third and final movement of the piece is based on a popular rhythmic folk dance in Bulgaria called Kopanitsa, while the melody creates a fugue between the different voices of the orchestra. The Kids are the little of the mountain goats - free to frolic high above tree line, above any human traces, as close to the clouds as one can get and still be touching the ground below. They are carefree, daring, and somewhat naive, yet safe under the watchful gaze of their parent. The movements ends in cascading repetitions of a musical motif in 5/8 representing the relentless passing of time or at least our perception of it.

By The Eagles. Arranged by A. Douglas Biggs. Score, Set of Parts. 62 pages. Published by A. Douglas Biggs
This new String Orchestra arrangement of The Eagle’s famous ballad Hotel California uses the broad pallet of colors available in the ensemble to recreate the “sound” of the original. The famous melody moves through the various voices of the orchestra, giving everyone a “turn at the mike.” The complex orchestration of the original is reflected in the extended divisi for the violins and viola. Two solo violinists present the “dueling” guitar solos closing the iconic "solo break," while the famous counter-melody is presented by a solo viola. While this version is more suitable for a larger ensemble, and ideally this would be the case, one or two strong players on a part will also work.<br> <br> This arrangement calls for two advanced violinists to perform the extended solos and is suitable for an advanced high school or college ensemble.

Brand new and beutiful arrangement for Waldesnacht from J. Brahms. This arrangement was thought to work with the string orchestra. The conduction of the original voices and harmony of the composition for the choir a cappella of J. Brams was followed strictly, but indications of dynamics, espressão and tempi were added.<br> Flavio Regis Cunha is a pianist, conductor and composer from São Paulo - Brasil. He is currently finishing his doctorate at Mackenzie Presbyterian University where he works as conductor of the Mackenzie University Orchestra and resident composer. The American Seasons (score – violin and string orchestra) MO148AScore (parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor99 pages - 38:00 minutes in length The American Seasons(Seasons Of An American Life)The American Seasons (Seasons Of An American Life) is a concerto for Violin And Chamber Orchestra. Composed in 1999, the music celebrates the various stages of an American life at the waking of the 21st century. Constructed in four movements and representing four stages of life, birth, adolescence, maturity and old age, the music also pays homage to Shakespeare's Seasons Of Man His acts being seven ages, incorporated throughout the work.Spring introduces the ideas of birth and infancy. After the principal theme has been stated, there is a violin cadenza encountering all twelve major keys and a 13/8 time signature representing the ancient golden ratio. These elements recall birth with all the possibilities a new life offers. Ending the movement, the principal theme is repeated with more complexity... as if posing life's questions.Summer represents the excitement and bravado of youthful adolescence and young adulthood. For the style of this movement I use a happy-go-lucky Blues voice which melds into Swing. I identify swing rhythm in all of 20th century American music culture as a common thread that runs through Ragtime through Rock and Roll on to Rap. Swing means testing the waters and pushing the envelope for lovers and soldiers.Fall is the slow movement symbolizing the wisdom of maturity. It is a peaceful theme with nostalgic strokes. It is a time for sincere reflection and enjoying ones accomplishments in life.Winter embodies the complexities and knowledge of an older person and that of a dying person. The movement begins with the principal them from Spring, but with a dissonance that emanates from a lifetime full of emotions and responsibilities. In the middle of the movement is a transition to an old world. I use my personal ancestry from Ireland as a foundation from which to rediscover one's lineage and explore the meaning and value of a cultural legacy. The exploration evolves into a four- and five-part fugue with a reel, jig, air, countered bass and the motif from the principal theme. All these elements, dances and melodies appear simultaneously and converge to form a unique insight to life's consequences from a historical perspective. Following the fugue, the principal theme finds its way back in. It sounds much as it did at birth. In the end, the solo violin cadenza carries the last earthly breaths before the violin and orchestra once again join in harmony to focus on a new life being transformed somewhere else. Life's four seasons in perpetuity. In the end, the solo violin cadenza carries the last earthly breaths before the violin and orchestra once again join in harmony to focus on a new life being transformed somewhere else. The American Seasons (cellos part – violin and string orchestra) MO148GCellos Part (score and parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor46 pages - 38:00 minutes in length The American Seasons(Seasons Of An American Life)The American Seasons (Seasons Of An American Life) is a concerto for Violin And Chamber Orchestra. The American Revolution. On the companion recording Liberty!, album notes author Thomas Fleming writes, ...something remarkable was taking shape in his imagination – sounds more extraordinary than he had ever experienced. On a trip to Key West, he visited Ernest Hemingway’s house. In the sundrenched garden, music leapt into O’Connor’s mind and in a breathtaking two hours, Surrender the Sword – and its orchestral outline – was on paper. It is unquestionably one of the most passionate orchestral pieces he has ever written. In the A part, the music is busy. You can imagine voices, perhaps in Congress, perhaps in a crowd in New York or Philadelphia, wondering what is going to happen next, as General George Washington is about to resign as commander-in-chief of the American army, O’Connor says. Then comes a long melodic arc, swelling with a triumphant confidence that depicts the great military leader extending his sword to surrender it forever. JB Linear #4364530. Published by JB Linear (A0.582031). Gustav Holst - Folksongs of Hampshire England . In the early 1900's there was great interest in collecting and preserving the folk songs of England, Scotland, and Ireland. Equipped with their newly invented recording devices, people such as Cecil Sharp, Charles Stanford, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Gustav Holst would travel into the country-side to record, or notate songs being sung. They would frequently use these songs in their own compositions. Holst's music in particular is filled with those songs. This group of four songs was arranged for voice and piano by Holst and set for string orchestra by John Gibson. The songs are 1. Young Edwin in the Lowlands Low 2. Bedlam City 3. The Irish Girl 4. Young Reilly.

Published by Spotlight Music (A0.1027735). In December 2009, one of my heroes past away. I am pretty sure that he never saw himself as a hero or even knew how many lives he changed. It is because of him that I stayed involved with music. There were many times that I almost put down my trumpet and walked out but every time I started to I would hear his voice telling me Dammit, get back in your spot! Well, over twenty four years later, I am not only playing, but I have learned how to write down the music that I have always heard in my head. He was the First in a long line of Professors, who taught me not only about music but about life and its real meaning. Mr. Robert Nygaard, this is what I heard as the sun set at your memorial service.

String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767465 By The Carpenters. By Fred Karlin. Arranged by Mike Lyons. Pop,Rock. Score and parts. 22 pages. Lyons Music Services #4368252. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767465). Here is my brand new arrangement of For All We Know, fresh for the Spring season. The melody is given to the Viola, as the range is very suitable and it's nice to treat our Viola players the melody from time to time. Besides this, the viola has that melancholy sound in its voice, rather like Karen Carpenter herself. This will require some good control and very espressivo playing throughout. and a good deal of subtlety on the part of the accompaniment. other than this, the music is not difficult and should be well within the grasp of most ensembles.
