Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844895). This brilliant Contemporary Classical piece borrows from many different styles. It is a Sonatina in 3 sections. The buoyant first section is quite Classical with a bit of fanfare, and then an Alberti Bass section that is an homage to Mozart. The expressive middle section is New Age in style and is in 7/4 Time Signature (3/4 then 4/4 in alternating sets, so not hard). The final section goes through several themes and a key change; having an ornamented Baroque theme, then a Classical theme reminiscent of the opening, then concluding with a Romantic era toccata. There are Chorale-like bridges linking the many sections and themes.

Originally modal, the tune by the aboriginal people takes the rocking baby as the inspiration and is embellished with a wide range of ornaments, string changes, and tonal centers, which are all relevant to Chinese traditional music and contemporary music. CMTNC (Chinese Music Teachers Association of Northern California) Commission Series is a collection of musical works for a set of twelve pieces for violin, piano, cello, and clarinet (three pieces for each instrument written for beginner, intermediate, and intermediate/advanced students; with or without piano accompaniment). Tchaikovsky composed another work for solo violoncello: Pezzo capriccioso, Opus 62. It is dedicated to Brandoukoff (Brandukov) with whom he had performed this little virtuoso piece for the first time at the famous salon of the Benardaky family in February 1888. The soloist himself suggested a few minor changes in the solo part. Even Maurice Gendron, the great cello virtuoso and teacher, attended to the work once again, not only 'bedighting' the solo part in a virtuoso manner but also adding a cadenza, an extended recapitulation and a lengthened ending to the Pezzo. The present edition enables the performer to get an accurate picture of the different versions and layers. The fingerings, bowing indications and interpretational aids - except for in the added parts - are by Maurice Gendron.
