All You Need Is Love is a song by The Beatles that was released as a non-album single in July 1967. It was written by John Lennon and credited to Lennon–McCartney.The Beatles performed the song as Britain's contribution to Our World, the first live global television link. Watched by over 400 million in 25 countries, the program was broadcast via satellite on 25 June 1967. The day before the Our World broadcast, the Beatles decided that the song should be their next single. Released in the UK on 7 July 1967, it went straight to number one and remained there for three weeks. It was similarly successful in the United States after its release on 17 July, reaching number one for a week.All You Need Is Love was also included on the American LP version of Magical Mystery Tour in November 1967,as well as in the film, and on the LP Yellow Submarine, released in 1969. Sweetwater Brass Press #748729. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1148567). Listen to the Mocking Bird was first published in 1855. The melody originated with Richard Milburn, a Philadelphia African-American who has been described variously as a panhandling busker and as a musically inclined barber. A songwriter and publisher by the name of Septimus Winner heard Milburn's tune, arranged it, added words, put it into print and claimed credit for its creation under the pseudonym Alice Hawthorne. Supposedly, Winner sold the rights to the song for five dollars. Listen to the Mocking Bird grew to be one of the most popular songs of the mid-19th century, a real hit. Its sheet music, by one estimate, sold more than 20 million copies. It was sung and performed particularly often during the Civil War, and troops used its melody as a marching tune. It remains somewhat of a standard and has been recorded numerous times, especially as a favorite of bluegrass musicians. In the lyrics, the singer is remembering his loved one. She has passed away but he recalls their good life together. They particularly enjoyed the call of the mocking bird, which even now is singing o'er her grave. This arrangement opens in E-flat major with Trumpet 1 introducing the sweetly sad melody, I'm dreaming now of Hally. After the introduction, the tempo picks up to allegro and whirls along. It does slow down several times, and there are four one-measure deviations from the 4/4 time signature: one 6/4, two 2/4s and one 1/4. At measure 65, the key changes to B-flat major for the finale. Trumpets 1 and 2 each play one A-above-their-staff eighth note as their highest pitch; the rest of the music stays well within the normal playing range of the five instruments. The Cindy lyrics were adapted to the tune during the 20th century and have been recorded by numerous individuals and groups. Probably the most familiar of its many versions describes a girl, tells her to go home and promises future matrimony: You ought to see my Cindy She lives way down South And she's so sweet the honey bees All swarm around her mouth. Get along home Cindy, Cindy Get along home Cindy, Cindy Get along home Cindy, Cindy I'll marry you some day. This arrangement for brass quintet is written in cut time with a suggested tempo of about 96 BPM. It opens in G major and, after a 12-measure introduction, introduces the basic melody using mainly Trumpets and Trombone. This is followed by five variations. The first takes form of a gentle, rhythmically soothing near-hymn played by the Horn; the second, sounds like Turkey in the Straw and features Horn and Trumpet 2; the third is a concoction based on The Little Brown Mouse and The Girl I Left Behind played by Tuba; the fourth is Boil Em Cabbage Down by Horn and Trombone; and the fifth is Kingdom Coming by Trumpets 2 and 1. At this point, the key changes to A major, Trumpets play an extended version of the Cindy melody and Horn provides a gigue-like counterpoint. All join in for the finale.
