Published by Connie Boss (A0.801677). This lovely cantata is about how we gather together in song to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It has a Celtic feel and the songs are from several different countries - United States, Ireland, England, France, Germany, Scotland, Italy. There are 8 songs included, 2 originals, 2 medleys and 4 songs that you know and love included also. All of the songs are in SATB with an (optional) accent instrument part (choice of flute, violin or cello - parts included at the end of each score) - the score has the flute part so you can see where the accent instrument fits into the score. A simple piano part is included in each score. The voices and accent instruments help to complete the entire piece. You can also purchase individual songs on here separately if you choose to not purchase the whole cantata. However, it is a bargain to purchase the cantata. There are narration parts before each song that give a little history of the song. You can opt out of using them if desired. The titles of the songs are: 1. Baby, Jesus, Was Born Unto This Earth. Take a little time to listen to the mp3 attached. It has computer voices, but you can get an idea of what it is supposed to sound like. Take British singer-songwriter Johnny Flynn's The Water. Long before Flynn, many Celtic troubadours have strummed uncomplicated chords like these and sung about venturing out onto a body of water as a way of cleansing and rediscovery. Lines like So wide is my river even recall coffee-house standards like The Water Is Wide.The most inventive songwriters take such time-worn tropes and give them mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Built on a steady, unwavering drone of acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, cello and light percussion, The Water sounds both ancient and modern. The track glistens without sounding fusty. Singing about how the river runs deep / and the larger fish creep, Flynn channels the stolid, dour delivery of many pub-folkies before him, but could just as easily be fronting an especially austere indie band.This arrangement is written for voice, piano, violin, and acoustic guitar, but can be played in other configurations. A second voice could take the place of violin. The piano part carries the melody so it can be played as an instrumental piece as well.(This title is also available for solo piano from SRS Music).

It was the trio's most popular single, reaching number one on the Harlem Hit Parade for ten nonconsecutive weeks. The song was based on a black folk tale that Cole's father had used as a theme for one of his sermons. In the tale, a buzzard takes different animals for a joy ride. When he gets hungry, he throws them off on a dive and eats them for dinner. A monkey who had observed this trick goes for a ride; he wraps his tail around the buzzard's neck and gives the buzzard a big surprise by nearly choking him to death.

This is one of my favourite Elton John tunes. I'm also a big fan of the music of Scott Joplin and thought it would be interesting to play Elton John's 'Daniel' in a ragtime style. I have actually used techniques that were post Joplin but it still has a strong ragtime feel and is a lot of fun to play.I have taken it through the keys of C major and Db major. There are a number of tenths in the left hand. These may be difficult for those with smaller hands but they can be rolled or replaced with a single root note or octave.I don't include dynamics, fingering or pedal markings and prefer to leave these to the discretion of the individual pianist as no two piano teachers can agree on this. I like to give the notes to the reader as simply as possible and another shortcut I often use is to write for example quavers/eight notes even when the notes should be longer. This makes it easier to read than so many voicings, rests and different note durations. The player can instinctively tell which notes should be held longer. You should therefore find my music very accessible.I hope you have as much fun learning and playing this tune as I had arranging it!

Notes about the music This digital sheet music includes the melody on a separate stave, a piano accompaniment, and a short intro, making it perfect for piano instrumentalists, singers, and small groups. To make this piece more accessible I have arranged it in the key of G Major which is a third below the recorded version which is in B Major. This makes the higher notes more attainable to sing for a more people and makes it easier to play for most. Who likes playing with 5 sharps?! Structure In this arrangement there is a slight variation from the structure from the Subtract Recording. As mentioned above a short intro is included which is the melody from the end of the chorus. After this the repeats and D.S markings will follow the form as heard on the recording. On the final chorus rather than playing the bass as written and played for the previous occurrences just playing simple sustained root notes of the chord to bring it all back and give the melody some space for the last time through, this would emulate the feeling in the recording. Melody As with all my arrangements, to try an minimise the number of pages needed, the small note heads in brackets indicate where the melody is different when repeated and these notes should be played/sung on the appropriate verse. The melismatic phrase on boat at the end of bar 37 is a simplification of what is sung on the recording and the performer is free to amend as it suits them. Piano The piano follows a simple chordal harmony and rhythm, the most complicated coming on the final page but this is simply the chord broken up in a way to give more momentum to this section. If you would like a version where the melody is in the right hand of the piano I also have an arrangement of this as a piano reduction which combines the melody with the right hand of the piano part here with some modifications for playability. Alternatives. I have different versions of this piece which may suit different performers/instrumentalists more. All my versions are: Voice Piano and Guitar - Melody on its own stave with guitar chords above it and a piano accompaniment underneath; Voice Piano and Guitar - As above but the melody is combined with the right hand of the piano part; Guitar Lead Sheet - Melody with guitar chords; Ukulele Lead Sheet - Melody with Ukulele chords.
