Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926665 Composed by Michael A. Morizio. A Cappella,Christian,Sacred. Octavo. 13 pages. M.A. Morizio #3588435. Published by M.A. Morizio (A0.926665). In the first chapter of Paul’s second letter to Timothy, verses 1-10, we observe the intimate relationship that exists, between a spiritual father and his son… I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. In Chapter two we also witness Paul’s commissioning Timothy to entrust to faithful men all that he was taught by the Apostle, that they then may be able to teach others in the same way also. While the elder Paul is now in prison and bound in chains, he is nonetheless empowered by the Holy Spirit to encourage and exhort Timothy to share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ, for the sake of the Gospel. Though Paul is bound in chains, he declares to Timothy the word of God is not bound! Endurance for Paul serves only one purpose, the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. In verse 11, Paul supports his statements by inserting another known 1st century Hymn to Christ, which brings us to our fifth anthem, For If We Died with Him. The text-or lyrics-of this hymn are even bracketed (or indented) in the NKJV Bible, suggesting the hymnic setting. The proposition of the text is quite clear; if we died with Christ, then we shall also live eternally with Christ. If we endure in the faith, then we shall also reign eternally with Christ. However, there is an insertion of 'Law' here, with a dire warning that the opposite is also true: If we deny Christ, resist, and refuse His beckoning and free invitation to salvation, then He will also deny us. Not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven… I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ (Matthew 7:31-23). Thus, the stage has been set for the fifth anthem. The piece is composed for SATB a cappella. The key is F Major. The opening phrase, This is a trustworthy saying, is in ¾ time, where a series of triplets are sung three times each (the Trinitarian opening motif). The meter then shifts to 2/4 with a lovely, distinctive unison melody for the opening phrase, For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him. Soon after, when the lyrics shift to the words, If we deny Him, He will also deny us, the song drops into the relative minor key (F minor). The melody in this passage is haunting, and sends a clear warning signal to the listener to pay heed to what is being sung. When the text then transitions from if we are faithless, He remains faithful, however, the key shifts back to F Major in a new (dance-like) rhythm for the final verse, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. A coda is inserted in the final phrase where the triplet pattern is recapitulated (This is a trustworthy saying) and the sopranos ascend to a high F singing the lyrics, we shall live, for He remains faithful! to triumphantly end the piece.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.939717 Composed by Richard St. Clair. 20th Century,Contemporary. Octavo. 23 pages. Richard St. Clair #3002339. Published by Richard St. Clair (A0.939717). This 9-minute motet in which the Buddha-to-be Dharmakara praises His master, Lokeshvaraja Buddha and vows to become the Savior of all Beings (namely, Amida Buddha). The music beings with an extended recitative/aria by solo soprano, and proceeds to the full choral ensemble to its conclusion. The MP3 Audio Clip is a computer-generated soundfile of the entire work. The music is completely tonal and traditional, suitable for good amateur choirs and professional choruses alike.Words from the Larger Sutra on Amida Buddha expounded by Shakyamuni Buddha some 2500 years ago in India.[Setting: Many ages ago, Dharmakara Bhikshu (in his stage before becoming Amida Buddha) declares to his Master, Buddha Lokeshvararaja, his intention to create a Pure Land wherein all suffering beings can be saved.]Text (slightly abridged):Then appeared a Buddha named Lokeshvararaja, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One, Possessed of Wisdom and Practice, Perfected One, Knower of the World, Unsurpassed One, Tamer of Men, Master of Gods and Men, Buddha and World-Honored One.At that time there was a king, who, having heard the Buddha's exposition of the Dharma, rejoiced in his heart and awakened aspiration for the highest, perfect Enlightenment. He renounced his kingdom and the throne, and became a monk named Dharmakara. Having superior intelligence, courage and wisdom, he distinguished himself in the world. He went to see the Tathagata Lokeshvararaja, knelt down at his feet, walked round him three times keeping him always on his right, prostrated himself on the ground, and putting his palms together in worship, praised the Buddha with these verses:The shining face of the Buddha is glorious;Boundless is his magnificence.Radiant splendor such as hisIs beyond all comparison. The sun, the moon and the mani-jewel,Though shining with dazzling brightness,Are completely dimmed and obscuredAs if they were a pile of ink-sticksThe countenance of the TathagataIs beyond compare in the whole world. The great voice of the Enlightened OneResounds throughout the ten regions. His morality, learning, endeavor,Absorption in meditation, wisdomAnd magnificent virtues have no equal; They are wonderful and unsurpassed.I resolve to become a Buddha,Equal in attainment to you, O holy king of the Dharma,To save living beings from birth-and-death,And to lead them all to emancipation.I vow that, when I have become a Buddha,I shall carry out this promise everywhere; And to all fear-ridden beingsShall I give great peace.Even though there are Buddhas,A thousand million kotis in number,And multiudes of great sagesCountless as the sands of the Ganges,I shall make offeringsTo all those Buddhas.I shall seek the supreme WayResolutely and tirelessly.Even though the Buddha-lands are as innumerableAs the sands of the Ganges,And other regions and worldsAre also without number,My light shall shine everywhere,Pervading all those lands.Such being the result of my efforts,My glorious power shall be immeasurable. When I have become a Buddha,My land shall be most exquisite,And its people wonderful and unexcelled; The seat of Enlightenment shall be supreme. My land, being like Nirvana itself,Shall be beyond comparison.I take pity on living beingsAnd resolve to save them all. Those who come from the ten quartersShall find joy and serenity of heart; When they reach my land,They shall dwell in peace and happiness.I beg you, the Buddha, to become my witnessAnd to vouch for the truth of my aspiration.Having now made my vows to you,I will strive to fulfilll them. The World-Honored Ones in the ten quartersHave unimpeded wisdom;I call upon those Honored OnesTo bear witness to my intention.Even though I mu.

Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1472849 Composed by Todd Marchand. Christian,Sacred. 5 pages. Con Spirito Music #1050479. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1472849). “That We May Give Ourselves” is a short anthem based on a traditional collect — a prayer comprising an invocation, petition, and conclusion — that appears in various Anglican prayer books. The invocation, “Eternal God and Father, by whose power we are created and by whose love we are redeemed” acknowledges the eternity, creative power, and redeeming love of God. The petition, “Guide and strengthen us by your Spirit, that we may give ourselves to your service, and live this day in love to one another, and live this day in love to you” asks for the aid of the Holy Spirit in service to God and recalls Jesus's words in the Gospel of Matthew, 22:37-39: “And [Jesus] said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”The conclusion, “through Jesus Christ our Lord,” reflects the mediating role of Jesus Christ the Son, as expressed in I Timothy 2:5 (“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus”) and Ephesians 2:18 (“For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father”).Appropriate at any time of year, this short anthem of dedication is an ideal offertory selection. ©Copyright 2024 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). THE GREAT HUMILITY OF CHRIST (SATB) – Philippians 2:5-11

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926663 Composed by Michael A. Morizio. A Cappella,Christian,Sacred. Octavo. 7 pages. M.A. Morizio #3588423. Published by M.A. Morizio (A0.926663). In chapter two of Paul's letter to the Philippians, Paul begins speaking to his readers about encouragement, comfort from love, participation in the Spirit, and godly affection and sympathy for one another. He says, we are to count others as more important than ourselves. He pleads, Complete my joy by doing these things. From this point, Paul breaks immediately into this other known 1st century Hymn to Christ (Verses 5-11), which I have called, The Great Humility of Christ. The hymn text is a beautiful exposition of the Gospel; Christ in the form of God, did not hold onto (grasp) His equality with God, but humbled Himself and took on the human form of a servant (slave) and poured Himself out for all of mankind. The anthem is composed for SATB (a cappella) choir in two stanzas, with a bridge section and a coda. The piece is scored in D minor, but weaves between D minor and G Major (representing the dual natures of Christ-fully God and fully man). After the first stanza, regarding Christ’s taking on human flesh, the unthinkable happens; Christ humbles Himself in holy obedience to be put to death, even a humiliating and repugnant death on a cross. Here in the anthem we find the musical bridge between the two stanzas with the sopranos holding onto a single note (high D) followed by a cascade of dissonant suspensions, one voice handing off to the other, finally resolving in a descending scale. The second stanza declares God’s having exalted Christ as a consequence of His sacrifice, giving Him a name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth. The final coda (in G Major) trumpets the pronouncement that; Every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1171401 Composed by Roger Quilter. 20th Century,Classical. Octavo. 24 pages. Forsyth Brothers Ltd #771738. Published by Forsyth Brothers Ltd (A0.1171401). A delightful early opus from one of the most individual English songwriters of the Twentieth Century, Roger Quilter (1877-1953). The texts are taken from the works of Seventeenth Century English poet Robert Herrick (ca 1591-1674) whose lyrics Quilter also set to music in his Opus 8 song-cycle To Julia (1905). The Opus 7 settings are dedicated to Quilter's friend Percy Grainger.FIVE LYRICS OF ROBERT HERRICK (SATB & Piano): Cupid A Dirge Morning Song To Electra To Violets  CupidLove, like a beggar came to meWith hose and doublet torn; His shirt bedangling from his knee,With hat and shoes outworn. He asked an alms; I gave him bread,And meat too for his need,Of which, when he had fully fed,He wished me all good speed.Away he went, but as he turned,In faith I know not how,He touched me so, as that I burnedAnd am tormented now. Love’s silent flames and fires obscureThen crept into my heart; And though I saw no bow, I’m sureHis finger was the dart. A DirgeHere she lies, in bed of spice,Fair as Eve in ParadiseFor her beauty was suchPoets could not praise too much.Virgins come, and in a ringHer supremest requiem sing. Then depart but see ye treadLightly, lightly o’er the dead.Morning Song Let's now take our time,While we're in our prime,And old, old age is afar off:For the evil, evil daysWill come on apace,Before we can be aware of. To ElectraI dare not ask a kiss;I dare not beg a smile;Lest, having that or this,I might grow proud the while. No, no, the utmost shareOf my desire shall beOnly to kiss the airThat lately kissèd thee. To VioletsWelcome, maids of honour! You do bringIn the SpringAnd wait upon her She has virgins manyFresh and fair;Yet you areMore sweet than anyY'are the maiden posiesAnd so graced,To be placed'Fore damask roses.Yet though thus respectedBy and byYe do lie,Poor girls, neglected.

Wilt Thou Forgive?

Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.965556 Composed by Ron Anderson. A Cappella,Christian,Contemporary,Sacred. Octavo. 9 pages. Ron James Anderson #5994791. Published by Ron James Anderson (A0.965556). Wilt Thou Forgive? is a setting of the John Donne poem, A Hymn to God the Father. John Donne (1572 – 1631) was one of the greatest of the metaphysical poets in England, a group that included George Herbert, Andrew Marvell, and possibly John Milton. An Anglican priest with a less than perfect moral reputation, Donne expressed through his poetry (notably, the Holy Sonnets) the incongruities of human attempts at living the Christian life.In the present poem, the speaker reveals his struggles with sin-the sin he was born with, the sin he commits daily, the sin through which he influences others to sin, and the sin he has quit for a short while, only to take up again for many more years. He confesses yet another sin: the fear that he will perish on the shore, presumably to die with unforgiven sins, consigned to eternal damnation. His desperate plea is that God’s Son shall shine as he shines now and heretofore. If God answers this prayer, he will fear no more, and will know that all his sins, including the sin of fear, are finally forgiven. This musical setting uses subtle inflection of rhythm and meter to mirror the text, aiming for natural prosody of speech and expressive accentuation. Melodic contours emphasize important words, while harmonic placement projects the various moods throughout the poem. The key relationships involve mostly shifts of minor 3rds; starting in D minor, the piece moves through several keys, reaching its final statement in D major. A variety of textures maintains aural interest: clusters and close harmony, full divisi chords, and an imitative passage painting the words, won others to sin, and made my sin their door. A series of shimmering major chords brings the work to a close, declaiming the words, Thy Son shall shine as he shines now and heretofore, and, I fear no more.
