The Story of a Leader

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1143904 Composed by Igor Korneitchouk. 20th Century,A Cappella,Contemporary,Religious. Octavo. 37 pages. Studio at the Post #744209. Published by Studio at the Post (A0.1143904). Duration: 16 minutes, 33 pp. Description: Exodus is a great story that belongs to everyone. Not only is it central to Judaism, not only is it integral to the Christian Bible, it is an immortal story that has been, and continues to be, an inspiration to oppressed peoples everywhere on this planet. It is relevant not just as ancient scripture but as living text, to be rediscovered by each new generation of an ever-widening Family of Man. The theme of struggle against oppression and slavery was just as relevant to the early Christians persecuted in Ancient Rome as it was relevant to the American Civil Rights movement of the 1960's, just as relevant to the Soviet Jews wishing to emigrate as it is to the South African Blacks resisting Apartheid. From the Dark Ages and the Spanish Inquisition, to Ghandi's emancipation of India, to the Holocaust, to, full-circle, the ongoing struggles in Palestine today, the story of Exodus is a guiding light in a dim and often grim world. According to the composer: The Story of a Leader is a collection of ‘re-chorales’ I created one summer when I was totally immersed in a post-educational obsession with the 371 Chorales by Johann Sebastian Bach. We used to study these to learn the rules of harmony and voice-leading (no parallel fifths, avoid crossed voices, etc.) at the Cleveland Institute of Music where I began my compositional career. That summer, now a professor of music in my own right, I discovered many broken and bent rules by the master himself and, along with the glory of being able to work through these Chorales myself at the piano, I felt an incredible feeling of liberation and possibilities unmediated by instructors of music theory. I began by stripping away all that Bach wrote, leaving only the hymn tunes which were not his to begin with. These tunes existed long before Bach used them for his tonal experiments, some attributed to Martin Luther, or someone else, others simply listed as ‘anonymous’. The same is true for the texts, which were then translated into English mostly in the 19th century (the provenance of each can be found herein on the first page of each of my reharmonizations). In some cases I modified the text to fit the context. I selected 12 of these ‘re-chorales,’ linking them together based on their texts in a kind of logic that worked for me, and created a narrative that told The Story of a Leader (Moses). This story is highlighted in the music with such techniques as cross-modal harmonies, points of imitation, a beer drinking song in one instance, and in another, to symbolize the parting of the seas for Moses’ people, an inversion of the soprano line in the bass..

Brisbane Ladies (Augathella Station)

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.774722 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Sandra Milliken. Folk,World. Octavo. 16 pages. Sandra Milliken #3863763. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.774722). Brisbane Ladies, sometimes known as Augathella Station, is an Australian folk song based on an English naval song titled Spanish Ladies. The song probably dates from the time of the War of the First Coalition (1793-96) when the Royal Navy carried supplies to Spain in support of that country’s resistance to revolutionary France. It then probably gained further popularity during the later Peninsular War when British soldiers were transported to Spain to assist rebels fighting against the French occupation by the forces of Napoleon. Spanish Ladies is a tale of British naval personnel sailing north from Spain and along the English Channel to their home port.Due to its popularity, several variants of Spanish Ladies later appeared in various parts of the world. American whalers sang a version called Yankee Whalermen. In Newfoundland it appeared as We’ll Rant and We’ll Roar. Special lyrics were written to the tune for the Bluenose, a famous Canadian sailing ship plying out of Nova Scotia. In Australia, around 1880, another set of lyrics appeared, written by Saul Mendelsohn who was a storekeeper in the small Queensland town of Nanango. Brisbane Ladies tells about the drovers who bring the herds of cattle overland from western Queensland to the markets in Brisbane. There the drovers spend most of their money and time with the ladies before setting out for home in search of the next herd of cattle for market. The places mentioned in Brisbane Ladies are mostly small towns along the stock route that stretched some 750 kilometres north-west of Brisbane towards the small town of Augathella, on the banks of the Warrego River. Augathella, at that time, marked the convergence of three major bullock tracks from Morven, Tambo and Charleville.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1308788 Composed by Charles Tenet. Arranged by Tobi Crawford. Jazz. 11 pages. Tobi Crawford #898034. Published by Tobi Crawford (A0.1308788). *Purchase 10 copies to perform this piece with your ensemble of any size*Purchase the instrumental pack (bass and drum part) here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/en/product/beyond-the-sea-instrumental-pack-only-22605052.htmlThis arrangement came to me over a number of weeks in a very organic way that began with the ostinato piano figure that prevails throughout the piece. I began playing it unattached to any tune and I just liked the way the line descended in the left hand and how I had to find voicings in the right hand that made harmonic sense – like a puzzle. As I was playing around with this puzzle, thoughts of my father were swirling around in my head – I was at the end of a 4 year period of separation from my parents owing to the fact that I’m a Canadian expat living in the US and the borders were closed for a long time because of Covid, and then I had work visa issues and my parents were getting older before my eyes. They were also losing friends to cancer and other ailments and my dad, in particular, had experienced the loss of many close family members and friends during our separation and it was taking a toll. One day I sat down and played the now familiar-to-me ostinato but randomly I started to sing “Beyond the Sea†over it and it fit perfectly. I thought it a happy coincidence. As the days went on I committed to putting my ostinato with Beyond the Sea and the lyrics started to seep into my brain. I have, of course, heard these lyrics many times before, (who hasn’t seen Finding Nemo?) but the lyrics didn’t mean what I thought they meant… They’re NOT about the ocean, they are about my dad!!! Well, kind of… I realized, through careful reflection and by slowing the words down, that the lyrics are talking about a person in heaven who is patiently waiting for their partner to join them. Somewhere beyond the seaShe’s there watching for me…It’s far beyond the starsIt’s near beyond the moon And the lyrics end with them meeting, “We’ll meet beyond the shore, we’ll kiss just like before,†and the song ends with: “and never again I’ll go sailing.†It’s like the big bang went off in my head about why all these thoughts of my dad, and his friends, and this arrangement, and what it all meant suddenly just MADE SENSE and I was able to start formulating a plan. Performance Suggestions: The improvisation solo in the middle should be free of any traditional “scat syllables†and should be more of a lament. Listen to singers like Aubrey Johnson improvise on ballads for inspiration. An idea for that improv section might be to have a male singer start the improv, then a female singer joins (as if together in heaven) then they sing letter F together (warning: will cause tears…). All solo sections do not have to be sung as written – soloists can take liberties with the melody as the spirit moves.

Choral Choir (SATB divisi) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.507012 By Alan Wagstaff. By Alan Wagstaff. Arranged by Alan Wagstaff. Celtic,Folk,Irish,Traditional. Octavo. 37 pages. Alan Wagstaff #117526. Published by Alan Wagstaff (A0.507012). This is a new Irish song about the magic of Irish music. It's arranged for choir (SSAATB), harp, piano, flute, and fiddle. Elements of O'Carolan's 'Inisheer' are woven into the melody. Lyric A Song With No Tune The stories they tell in the Town of Athlone, would gladden the heart of a man made of stone. I joined in with them freely, until it was Spring, then I was off, like a hawk on the wing - searching for fortune - and something to sing. And it’s oh! But it’s been a long time! And I hope that we meet again soon. I saw her but once, by the light of the moon. She said she would give me a song with no tune. The pipers are proud in Kildare and Athy; there's no better music found under the sky. But, one bright Summer's evening, I left them behind; put my feet to the road and I followed them blind - searching for fortune - and what I might find. And it’s oh! But it’s been a long time! And I hope that we meet again soon. I saw her but once, by the light of the moon. She said she would give me a song with no tune. The fiddlers are famous from Bantry to Cork. The rake of their reels would make the lame walk. But still, at the close of a fine Autumn day, I packed up my bags and I went on my way - searching for fortune but finding low pay. And it’s oh! But it’s been a long time! And I hope that we meet again soon. I saw her but once, by the light of the moon. She said she would give me a song with no tune. Far up the west coast, in Aran and Clare, there's harpers to bring you a magical aire. I listened, enthralled, till the Winter came on, then pulled up my boots - and soon I was gone - searching for fortune for still I had none. And it’s oh! But it’s been a long time! And I hope that we meet again soon. I saw her but once, by the light of the moon. She said she would give me a song with no tune. I rested, by chance, at the close of the day, by a small rounded hill, where I happened to stray. And there, as the drowsiness over me stole, I dreamed of a woman with eyes black as coal - And the fortune she held was the song of my soul. And it’s oh! But it’s been a long time! And I hope that we meet again soon. I saw her but once, by the light of the moon. She said she would give me a song with no tune. Alan Wagstaff.

In her naivety and innocence, she sees kindness and virtue in all the people she passes along the way. But - unbeknown to her - there are sinister goings-on in the lives of all the characters she passes. However, on hearing her happy little tune - although Pippa is unaware of it - her song has a positive effect on all those people she passes, influencing them to change their ways and start acting for the good. The Old Palmer Song
Choral SATB
Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.774724 Composed by Traditi…

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.774724 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Sandra Milliken. Folk,World. Octavo. 14 pages. Sandra Milliken #3873279. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.774724). The Old Palmer Song is a favourite Australian folk song that is meant to be sung in a rollicking style that reflects the excitement and anticipation of hardy Australian colonials setting out in search of gold. Following hard on the heels of the great California gold rushes (1848 – 1855) came the discovery of payable quantities of gold in Australia. The first gold rush in Australia began in New South Wales in May 1851 after prospector Edward Hargraves discovered gold near Orange, at a site he called Ophir. Other discoveries quickly followed, including those at Ballarat and Bendigo in the colony of Victoria. Then came Rosewood and Gympie (1867) in Queensland; the Gawler region in South Australia in 1868; and Halls Creek (1885), Kalgoorlie and Coolgardie (1893) in Western Australia. One of Australia’s richest alluvial goldfields was that of the Palmer River in far north Queensland. The rush to the Palmer began in 1873 and lasted for about three years. The goldfields were nearly 100 miles inland from the small coastal settlement of Cooktown and the early prospectors had a hard time of it just getting to the field. Leaving Cooktown they crossed the coastal mangroves, then on through dense tropical rainforest, into the more open eucalypt forest beyond and then across the dry, inhospitable and rugged country of the hinterland dissected by wide and deep rivers. And always there was the risk of meeting with fierce resistance from the Aborigines whose tribal land they were travelling through. At the height of the rush there were around 35,000 prospectors on the Palmer (including a great many Chinese). By the time the rush was over, the Palmer had yielded over 100 tons of gold! The Old Palmer Song is set to the tune of Ten Thousand Miles Away, a shore ballad/sea shanty that probably originated in Ireland in the early 19th Century.

My dear friend, and Pastor Don Colageo and I cut our teeth together with this piece when we decided to dive headlong into this cycle of Seven Anthems to Christ. It was the second song of the (SEVEN ANTHEMS TO CHRIST) cycle that I had composed, but the first using his Greek translation(s). It eventually would become the last piece to grace the cycle of seven in order of my musical presentation sequence. In fact, this known 1st century Hymn to Christ spans 18 verses of the first chapter of the Gospel of John. My setting of the anthem is seven plus minutes long in performance length. The song's length was not on purpose, but the number seven does have Biblical significance (seven days of creation, seven golden lamp stands, etc.) The number seven is also known among Biblical scholars as the number of Holiness and Perfect Creation. Since this rather long, yet theologically complete Hymn to Christ already existed in the 1st century, it is no wonder the Apostle John opted to begin his Gospel with it, probably quoting the entire text. Consequently, he converted this particular Hymn to Christ’s lyrics into what would later become canonized Scripture. The anthem is composed for SSATB with solo SSA trio, and Solo Soprano and Solo Baritone lines, accompanied by Flute and B♠Clarinet. The key signature of the anthem is B♠Major. However, a lot of time is spent weaving and bobbing around the Dominant chord, (F Major). The Flute and Clarinet introduction play seven different motifs, interweaving with counterpoint, musically connoting the dual natures of Christ--fully God, and fully man. An SSA trio opens the piece recounting the creation story. A bass solo shortly follows, introducing John the baptizer's story and purpose. Soon, the anthem breaks out into full SSATB illustrating Christ's life and purpose for our salvation. The final coda is the great Doxology, sung in 5 parts, accompanied by the Flute and Clarinet, and the entire congregation (or audience) is invited to sing along with the familiar tune.

This beautifultraditional hymn has been spread through all ages and loved by all Christians. Now with the new arrangements Rev.Chien wrote for choir, it shows adifferent style. Especially in the middle part, Rev. Chien added a newmelody that cleverly and vividly describe the scene of walking through thevalley of the shadow of the death. His arrangement for the last part iswonderful too, bringing out the deep feel of comfort and peace in the presenceof Lord. Rev. Chien has won the Japanese NHK International ComposingCompetition. He has strong and solid theory of Western traditional musicand good at adding a flavor of oriental mystery to his music, so hismusic pieces are particularly charming and have a unique style thatdifferentiates him from ordinary composers. Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.1007125 Composed by Mogens Eliasen. Folk,Romantic Period. Octavo. 40 pages. Soverenity Enterprises Inc. #2948289. Published by Soverenity Enterprises Inc. (A0.1007125). The 40-page score is a choral symphony with a powerful lesson to modern people, based on an old Danish folk song about the young super-hero Ramund. The score is dense with contents, both musically and lyrically, and alone for that reason, the 8-minute performance takes an advanced choir. The original folk song dates back to the Viking age and consist of many episodes ofRamund's life, almost like a personal saga. Some have undoubtedly been added later, making the total number of stanzas go up around 50, but the main idea of the song isto report about a young lad, whose ideas of what is right for him to do or not doare completely unaffected by other people's opinions, including those of royalties andcelebrities. The stories are in many regards comparable to those of Beowolf.Although the stories generally are dramatic and bloody, Ramund always retains hiscool attitude and shows how unimpressed he is with power demonstrations, even hisown when he is provoked to use his strength. It is a common element throughout thestories that Ramund detests evil and aggression, and he goes to great lengths to fightpower abusers and aggressive elements. He just wants to live in peace and not haveto be bothered by all those who like to abuse power!Included in this presentation for piano and 8 voices are 11 stanzas from what is believedto be original, in English translation, with focus on clarity of meaning, more so thanpoetical rules and rhymes. The first ruling concept has been to obtain clarity and agreat fit to the music. The second concept has been to add the inspiration this old folksong has created in the mind of a modern rebel who would like to see some ofRamund's attitude to power and power abusers put into action in our modern corruptsociety. Maybe in a less bloody version, but definitely with a similar effect! The added2 stanzas and the attached coda, as well as the added lyrics to the intermezzos and theincorporated commentaries to the action should serve that purpose. In addition, the original tune itself, as well as the lyrics and the intermezzo, haveinspired some musical development throughout the piece, to further accentuate themeaning and the messages about respecting each other, standing together againstabuse, and not letting power abusers get away with their crimes. The 8 voices cover ranges as follows: First sopranos: C4 through Bb5 (possibly G5); Second sopranos: C4 through E5; All altos: G3 through D5; All tenors: C3 through G#4(possibly F#4); First basses: F2 through D4; Second basses: D2 through B3

Are you looking for a new song to celebrate someone’s birthday? If so, then Just Another Birthday Song – SATB Edition might well be what you’re looking for. Simple melody, simple harmonies, simple ideas, not too long and at times a mildly reflective take on the birthday theme. However, the text is never too serious – it’s someone’s birthday, after all! Plenty of unison singing and straightforward 4-part writing mean that this piece will not be difficult for any choir, can be easily slipped into any program. The spaces between the lines of text in the Bridge and the Outro leave you scope for adding a solo instrument or perhaps for someone to speak a few congratulatory words while the other choir members continue the song in the background. Indeed, measures 49-60 could even be repeated quietly to accompany a solo instrument or someone speaking. The possibilities for making this song more individual are endless! The well-known tunes will continue to feature at many birthday events, but Just Another Birthday Song – SATB Edition gives you the chance to present a refreshing, different and flexible musical number when honoring someone’s birthday.Chord symbols are included for use with a guitar instead of or in addition to piano.Choir parts without piano part are included. Also available separately:Solo voice version (with optional 2-part harmony) (A0.955730 or 1051903)Solo voice swing version for those who prefer a slightly jazzier birthday! Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.972650 Composed by James Siddons. Contemporary,Opera,Ragtime. Octavo. 79 pages. James Siddons Music and Writings #4898807. Published by James Siddons Music and Writings (A0.972650). Two Views of Scott Joplin is an exploration of a personal and artistic crisis that Scott Joplin, the King of Ragtime, went through between 1904 and 1906. This crisis was precipitated by the untimely death of Freddie Alexander in September 1904, to whom Joplin had been married only ten weeks. Knowledge of this marriage was lost to history for almost a century until the Joplin scholar Edward A. Berlin discovered the newspaper obituary, which is quoted in the bass solo in Part II, The Obituary of Freddie Alexander. Apparently, Scott Joplin, already inspired by the progressive ideals of Booker T. Washington, saw a path to social and artistic betterment through his love of Freddie, a daughter of a refined family. During this period, Joplin used the title rag less often in his piano-solo works, and nurtured an interest in opera (he had long been active in vaudeville as well as ragtime piano). He seems to have lost his sense of direction in 1905 and 1906, until led by his publisher John Stark to move to New York City in 1907. Once there, apparently growing out of his grief, Joplin studied with an Italian opera singer and composer, composed his folk opera Treemonisha, and composed Wall Street Rag and his other late masterpieces for piano. Joplin died in April 1917 following two years of debilitating illness. Joplin left almost no personal writings, such as letters or diaries. To create an impression of autobiography, Two Views of Scott Joplin consists mostly of words and music written by Scott Joplin, and piano music composed by two close associates, the composer-pianists Louis Chauvin and Scott Hayden. These words come from Treemonisha, from Joplin’s little-remembered vaudeville and parlor songs, and also from text in his sheet-music---copyright notices, publishers’ addresses, titles and subtitles of rags, performance directions. In most cases, selected lyrics are extracted from songs and paired with piano-solo themes. These ingredients are combined in creative ways to express the biographical narrative. Instrumental themes are re-cast as necessary to express their newly-attached lyrics. But in no place can any of the music in Two Views of Scott Joplin be considered an arrangement of a given, intact composition, nor a medley of tunes, nor a theatrical revue. The character development and dialogue found in Scott Joplin’s Struggle with Destiny (Part II, No. 3) is my own biographical interpretation of Joplin, based on known evidence and on his music. The score contains extensive Performance Notes for performing this 16-minute work as a choral work or as a short opera scene.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.933611 Composed by John Stafford Smith. Arranged by Thomas Coker. Folk,Patriotic. Octavo. 4 pages. Thomas Rembert Coker Jr #3503513. Published by Thomas Rembert Coker Jr (A0.933611). In 2009 when Sanctuary Choir of South Main Baptist Church in Houston where I served as Music Minister was scheduled to sing the National Anthem for the Houston Astros baseball game, I carefully examined the several arrangements in our library and other resources. Finding nothing which met the simple, straight-forward criteria I was searching for, we created this simple arrangement. Since its addition to the music library it has proven very useful on numerous occasions for a variety of groups. About the National Anthem:The lyrics for The Star-Spangled Banner were written on September 14, 1814 from a British ship in the Baltimore Harbor where attorney Francis Scott Key had waited anxiously through the night as the twenty-five hour bombing of Ft. McHenry progressed. He had been sent to negotiate the release of an American civilian and then was held on board the ship. At the dawn’s early light when the flag could still be seen indicating the British had not taken the fort, he jotted down this poem which on March 3, 1931 finally became the National Anthem of the United States. Interestingly, it was Robert Ripley who in November of 1929 drew a panel in his syndicated cartoon, Ripley’s Believe It or Not stating Believe It or Not, America has no national anthem. With the encouragement of John Philip Sousa, President Herbert Hoover signed into law the adoption of The Star-Spangled Banner to rectify this situation. According to the Smithsonian, the melody, written by John Stafford Smith, was originally titled Anacreon in Heaven. Anacreon was an ancient Greek poet known for his love of wine and love. The song had become the constitutional song of a London gentlemen’s club called the Anacreontic Society. Could this explain the wide range of the melody? By utilizing this tune to the moving text, this once merry drinking song took on a bold new and powerful meaning. Thomas Coker, August 27, 2015

Gilbert’s poem “I have a song to sing, O†set to music by Arthur Sullivan in ‘The Yeoman of the Guard’ or, The Merryman and His Maid’ (1888) is an example of a ‘cumulative’ song – where each verse gets progressively longer. It originally appears as a duet in the G&S opera, and gained popularity outside that world with Peter, Paul and Mary’s rendition, as recorded on their 1969 album “Peter, Paul and Mommy.†– introducing the world of G&S to a completely new audience. This arrangement is for 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment. It is an excellent introduction to the music of Gilbert & Sullivan, a teachable moment about form, and a perfect sing-a-long tune to include on any family oriented, community outreach program. A comment on the collection by an Oxford piano teacher:‘For those who only know Tolkien via the recent blood-and-thunder films, this song-cycle by Charles McCreery will give a very different angle on the classic saga. Here we find a gentle and ethereal world, where rhythms lilt and words echo. The twelve songs, suitable for choir, evoke a dreamy, water-colour landscape with no harsh sounds, the tunes are singable and in a traditional style that Tolkien would surely have approved.' - Dr Julia Gasper, LGSMA general comment on Charles McCreery’s music by a violinist and composer in the USA: ‘Charles McCreery’s beautifully melodic, intricately textured compositions are infused with classical, romantic and folk idioms.’ - Samantha Gillogly The Riddle Song is appropriate for either women’s or children’s voices, and is potentially of interest to anyone who is familiar with the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. The vocal part be printed out separately at the end of the full score. The MP3 which plays from this page is of an orchestral version of the song.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1323225 Composed by Cornish folk tune. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Advent,Christmas,Folk,Holiday,Sacred. 10 pages. Con Spirito Music #911489. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1323225). “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen†is an English traditional carol dating, perhaps, to the 16th or 17th century. A manuscript, ca. 1650, contains a version with the first line, “Sit you merry gentlemen†and the refrain, “O tidings of comfort and joy.†The earliest known printed edition of the carol is a London broadsheet dated 1760, in which the first line is the familiar “God rest ye merry, gentlemen.†By the 19th century, the carol was well-known, with Charles Dickens referencing it in his 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol. The phrase “God rest you merry†in the first line is an archaic idiom meaning “God grant you peace and happiness.†William Shakespeare used the phrase “rest you merry†in his plays, “As You Like It†and “Romeo and Juliet,†both from the 1590s; but Dickens recorded the phrase as “God bless you, merry gentlemen†in A Christmas Carol. The tune adapted for use in this arrangement was at the time of its notation a wordless, nameless melody noted in 1905 by folk song collector E. Quintrell from the singing of a Mr. Boaden in Cornwall, England. The tune was sent to Lucy Broadwood, editor of the Journal of the Folk-Song Society, who decided that it fit the ballad, “The Maid in Bedlam,†and published the tune and text together. Gustav Holst later arranged the tune as Song without Words ‘I'll Love My Love’†in his Second Suite in F for Military Band, Op. 28, No. 2 (1911) and again as “I Love My Love†in his 6 Choral Folksongs, Op. 36 (1916). Set in F minor (Dorian), the tune brings a contemplative tone to the text, with the high point of the refrain being the subdominant Bb major chord on the word “joy.†The rich, dark timbre of solo clarinet (part included) on introduction, interludes, and ending adds to this tone. SATB voices (with some divisi on soprano and tenor), piano, Bb clarinet©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Celtic,Christmas,Folk,Irish,Standards. 23 pages. Scott S. Stewart #897170. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.1307911). “Gloucestershire Wassailâ€, is an old song, sung around the Feast of Yule, by parties who go about dressed with boughs and ribbons, carrying a bowl, which they expect to be filled with beer or cider, and a toast put therein.  It is still customary in many parts of England to hand round the wassail, or health-bowl, on New Year’s Eve. The tune of this song is traditional popular music of the day – a universal favourite (tune) in Gloucestershire.  This arrangement of “Gloucestershire Wassailâ€, traditionally strophic in structure, has been changed to a rondo form with the original popular tune serving as the refrain or chorus and the text of the many verses serving as just that – a verse, giving emphasis to the text as sung by carousing, rural merry-makers to their feudal lords.  It is scored for a 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment.  Performance time: 4:55+-.

Published by Eric Hagmann (A0.796809). An SATB + Solo contemporary a cappella arrangement of Bad Case of Loving You by Robert Palmer. Released in 1978 by John Moon Martin and then covered the very next year by Robert Palmer, this driving-rock spin on the traditional blues form fits perfectly as a piece just for voices. Contains alternate lyrics which could be used by a female soloist. In the hands of a skilled vocal percussionist, the propulsive rhythm of Bad Case thumps alongside the bass; thus laying the groundwork for your soloist and setting the electric tone for the entire song. Rather than mimicking the guitar licks of the original piece, the supporting vocals fill the void between phrases and then pack a true punch when finally getting to the chorus that we all know and love. At the bridge, the bass has a moment to shine on the melody before handing it off to the altos to finish the section. This is followed directly by a unique departure from the original tune - a breakdown where all but one section drops out. Over a short time, each part layers themselves back into the texture, thus building to an exciting climax where the vocal percussionist resumes the original groove along with the full support of the rest of your singers.High energy and lots of fun, this arrangement is great for your high school or college ensemble! .

Published by Eric Hagmann (A0.796815). An SSATB + duet vocal jazz arrangement of The Weight (Take a Load Off, Annie) by The Band. This chart reimagines The Band's original song as an a cappella swing tune straight out of the 1940's. The bottom voice thumps along on neutral syllables of your choosing just as an upright bassist would in the big band. If you don't have any singers who can take on this part, an actual bass instrument could be substituted. The guitar accompaniment of the original song is now replaced by complex jazz harmonies and rhythms sung by your upper voices to compliment your soloists. The last 1/3rd of the song has a breakdown that layers and overlaps your voices one by one until they come together for a final build into the last chorus. This section also offers an opportunity for a small quartet to sing an optional harmony part. While this piece is challenging, it offers a unique spin on an old classic that will surely hold your audience's attention if performed well. .

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1044850 By Mark R Lewis. By Mark R Lewis. Celtic,Folk,Irish. Octavo. 48 pages. Mark R Lewis #649472. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1044850). This original song tells a fairy tail in the style of a Celtic folk song. Both the story and the tune are wholly original and were composed as part of a music production class that Mark participated in during the spring of 2022. This song tells the story of a young boy's adventure in the woods, his skepticism towards what the old folks say, and the results of his failure to listen to them. This piece by Mark R Lewis is arranged for SATB ensemble. All parts get the melody at some point and there are several duets between voices parts throughout the piece. Additionally the accompaniment voices switch between homophonic harmonies and arpeggiating chords several times for increased complexity and interest. The instrumental parts consist of vibraphone, piano, bass guitar, and floor tom parts. Any mellow metallophone would be an appropriate substitute for the vibraphone and the bass guitar part can be played on almost any bass instrument. The optional floor tom could be substituted with any other lower, resonant drum available but should not be a short, sharp sound. All that said, both the vibraphone and bass guitar parts are mostly doubled in the piano or vocal lines so groups that do not have access to those instruments should still be able to perform this piece without concern. This piece is also available for Vocal Trio w/ Mixed Ensemble and the sound files sampled here are from that arrangement. Vocal Range: d minor Soprano - 1+ octave (D4 to E5) Alto - 1+ octave (A3 to D5) Tenor - 1+ octave (C3 to D4) Bass - 1+ octave (F2 to A3) Instrumental Range: Vibraphone - 1+ octave (D4 to E5) Piano - ability to reach at least an octave in both hands Bass guitar - 1+ octave (E2 to A3).

Mark R Lewis #649647. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1045083). The tune for Star in the East first appears in print in The Southern Harmony collection, but is well attested as an American Folk Hymn. The lyrics are partially anonymous but most published versions include verses that seem to have been added by the arranger of that version. This Epiphany song has similar themes to We Three Kings but is definitely a refreshing change from that well known tune. This fun arrangement by Mark R Lewis is for Baritone soloist, SATB choir, a woodwind instrument, and bass instrument. Included is sheet music for C, Bb, and Eb instruments and a bass line which can be played by many different bass instruments depending on what the group has available. The instrumentalists can transpose their parts to different octaves for ease of playing if necessary. The Baritone soloist should be a well experienced intermediate singer and the bass line is very active at times, but the choir and woodwind parts should be performable by most intermediate groups. Also available for Baritone Solo w/ TTB ensemble, which is showcased in the sound samples included here. Vocal Range: f minor Baritone solo - 1 1/2 octaves (Bb2 to F4) Soprano -
