Oboe,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.747030 By Elton John. By Bernie Taupin and Elton John. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Pop,Rock. Score and part. 6 pages. Keith Terrett #5902571. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.747030). Arranged for Oboe & Piano, Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word is a song written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin. It was recorded by Elton John and released in 1976, both as a single and as part of the Blue Moves album. It was John's second single released by The Rocket Record Company. The song is a mournful ballad about a romantic relationship which is falling apart. The song also appeared the following year on Greatest Hits Volume II, though for copyright reasons it no longer appears on the current version of that album. It now appears on Greatest Hits 1976–1986, The Very Best of Elton John and in Greatest Hits 1970–2002, as well as a number of other compilations. The song was covered in 2002 by English boy band Blue for their second studio album, One Love (2002). The song was recorded as a collaboration with Elton John, and was the second single from the album. It peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart on 15 December 2002 and also reached number one in Hungary and the Netherlands. It peaked within the top 10 in an additional 16 countries. In 2004, Elton John and Ray Charles performed the song on Charles' duet album, Genius Loves Company. It would turn out to be the last recording Charles ever did before his death that June. The duet was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. It was also performed by smooth jazz saxophonist Kenny G on the soprano saxophone featuring Richard Marx on his 2004 album At Last...The Duets Album later that year. The song was a Top 20 hit, reaching No. 11 in the United Kingdom, No. 6 in the United States and No. 3 in Canada. In addition, the song went to No. 1 on the US and Canadian Adult Contemporary charts. In the US, it was certified Gold on 25 January 1977 by the RIAA.The single was the lead single for the eight-track remix compilation Good Morning to the Night in collaboration with Australian remixer Pnau, which came out on 16 July 2012.

The Lanier Company #6048897. Published by The Lanier Company (A0.617744). 3 ONE MOVEMENT HYMN SONATAS is a musical work created by Gary Lanier for Oboe and Piano. The theme is one of God's Grace, the Christian's response to what He has done for us, and God's Love, all seen through His Son, Jesus Christ. The word, sonata is used by the composer/arranger because of the many ways the hymn tunes are presented and developed through: motifs, secondary themes, variation, repetition, recapitulation and other compositional devices. 3 ONE MOVEMENT HYMN SONATAS is perfect for Church services, recitals or gatherings where hymns of God's grace, His love and our praise to Him is desired. Oboe,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942559 Composed by Jeff Gao. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and part. 39 pages. Jeff Gao #3093339. Published by Jeff Gao (A0.942559). Sonatina for Oboe and Piano was written in 2016. It consists of three movements, each being a letter of personal homage. The first movement titled Spring Festival is a tribute to Beijing, my birthplace. The music opens with a fanfare passage by oboe that is immediately echoed by piano. The brief dialogue quickly leads to the first main theme of the movement: an up-tempo, rhythmically vibrant melody reminiscent of a Chinese folk dance. The second theme in a slower tempo, is clumsy, somewhat crude yet with abundant charm and humor. The first theme reappears before the movement ends on the uplifting fanfare, much similar to how it all started. The second movement titled Ballade is a letter to my beloved wife, whose elegance and passion inspired me to write this lyrical, through composed piece as a manifest of love. The third movement titled Child’s Play is dedicated to one of my closest childhood friends, himself a terrific oboist. The movement is loosely in an A-B-A form. The two outer sections feature a playful melody in neo-classical style and are separated by a casual and whimsical middle section.

Published by SAXpress.com (A0.901457). The Ragtime Dance (1906)Scott Joplin (1867/8 – 1917)Oboe Solo with pianoLength: 3.5 minutes (all repeats)Difficulty: Grade 3-4 (Moderate)This arrangement is is for oboe solo with piano accompaniment and is in the original key. What everyone always remembers about The Ragtime Dance is the moment when Joplin asks the performers to vigorously stomp the floor in rhythm! This is the stop-time feature mentioned in the subtitle. The Ragtime Dance oboe solo with piano, by Scott Joplin. Joplin wrote two works with the title The Ragtime Dance. The first, written in 1899 and published in 1902, is something like a ballet with songs and a speaking part for narrator. It was a failure on stage and is now forgotten. The second and much better known work is a piano rag based on some of the tunes in the stage show. This little piano rag is one of the genre’s most loved pieces and has been transcribed for many different ensembles. It has been used in many films, most notably in the 1973 movie The Sting.

Score and part. 15 pages. Jmsgu3 #3497149. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549448). Score: 10 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 3 pages. Duration: 4:25. Requires sensitivity & dynamic control.Suitable for recitals, church meditations, or school programs. School Years First of all, Sullivan attended music school at the Royal Academy of Music. Because Sullivan was so talented, the Academy awarded him the Mendelssohn Scholarship for two years in a row. He, therefore, studied with John Goss, who studied with Thomas Atwood, who in turn studied with Mozart. Sullivan similarly studied the piano at the Academy with Arthur O’Leary. Study Abroad During his first year, he also earned money by singing solos in the Chapel Royal. At the end of his second year, the Academy consequently continued his scholarship and sent him to study at the Leipzig Conservatoire. He certainly studied composition, and likewise counterpoint and piano. Hence, during his final year in Leipzig, Sullivan finally completed his graduation composition project: Incidental Music for Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Association with Gilbert It seems like Sullivan built the bulk of his composing career largely in the 1860s. As a result, he became famous for his incidental music for the Tempest and his Irish Symphony. He, therefore, began collaborating with the poet W. S. Gilbert in the 1870s. Rather than focus on serious opera, Gilbert and Sullivan, in contrast, concentrated on comic opera such as H. M. S. Pinafore, the Pirates of Penzance, and the Mikado. Therefore, certainly as a result of his education and experience, Sullivan composed a total of 24 operas, 11 symphonic works, 10 choral pieces. Even more, he wrote a large number of noteworthy hymns such as Onward Christian Soldiers. Lost Chord The general style of his music is maybe similar to Mendelssohn, Schumann, and perhaps Liszt. It seems like Sullivan was fond of writing distinct melodies for each character in his operettas. His melodies combine together as the characters did. Furthermore, he was a master orchestrator, and therefore played the flute, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone fluently. The Lost Chord Sullivan wrote his most noteworthy song the Lost Chord in 1877. As a result, it was a great success and was certainly performed all over the world by a variety of singers such as Enrico Caruso. Because Sullivan was the most famous composer in England, the Lost Chord became the most famous of all British or American songs of the 1870s and 1890s. Consequently, in 1888 Thomas Edison recorded The Lost Chord for the phonograph. It was one of the first songs ever recorded. Furthermore, Queen Victoria knighted Sullivan in 1883.  Register for free lifetime updates and revisions of this product at www.jamesguthrie.com

Oboe,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548478 Composed by Mueller. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christian,Christmas. Score and part. 3 pages. Jmsgu3 #3386539. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548478). Traditional Christmas song arranged for Oboe & Piano. Third verse features new harmony. Score: 2 pg. Part: 1 pg.Away in a Manger Away in a Manger is a popular Christmas song published originally sometime in the later 19th century and performed throughout the world. In England, it is considered one of the two most popular carols of all time; a 1996 poll ranked it as a tie for second place. To begin with, many thought it was written by Martin Luther, but now the song is considered to be absolutely American. The most common musical arrangements are by William Kirkpatrick (1895) and James R. Murray (1887). The melody was first published, as Luther's Cradle Hymn, by James R. Murray. Then, came a confusing series of explanations about how Martin Luther wrote the song. Murray even went so far as to suggest that Luther wrote it for his children. As a result, the song has become known as simply Mueller. Nobody knows who this Mueller actually is, but the name stuck. Popularity By the 1880’s the cradle song was being performed in church. By the 1990’s the song was becoming the most popular Christmas song of all time. It was sung in school, in church, and at home by nearly everyone. Other musical settings The first musical setting published with the lyrics appeared in the Little Children's Book for Schools and Families (1885). The title was Away in a Manger. This edition is the first one not to attribute the song to Martin Luther. Charles H. Gabriel was the first arranger to present the third verse. He also composed and published a large number of different arrangements of the song. In one of his settings, he supplies a chorus for each verse with asleep sung in canon. Another prevalent preparation uses the lyrics to the melody Flow Gently, Sweet Afton. Yet another arrangement dating uses the lyrics to an old Normandy Carol. Oboe,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549637 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 16 pages. Jmsgu3 #3516553. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549637). Duration: ca 5:20, Score: 8 pages, solo part: 3 pages, piano part: 4 pages. One of Beethoven's finest and most famous works. Program for a recital, church meditation, or school program. Bring your best espressivo and plan to rehearse the many subtle dynamic changes. Sonata Pathétique Op. 13 First of all, this is an arrangement of the second movement of Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique. It seems like Beethoven wrote this piece before becoming troubled by deafness. Published in 1799, it consequently remains one of the most celebrated pieces Beethoven ever wrote. As a result of its popularity, the movement was therefore performed by Karl Haas. Hass recorded it for a popular radio show called: Adventures in Good Music. Beethoven Background Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 –1827) was certainly a German pianist. Above all, he was probably one of the greatest composers in history. As a result, he is a pivotal character in the progress between the Classical and Romantic periods. He is certainly one of the most famous and hence important of all composers. Seems like his most familiar and noteworthy works include symphonies 1-9; piano concertos 1-5; and furthermore, the violin concerto. Also, certainly of extreme importance are the noteworthy 32 sonatas for the piano; the string quartets 1-16; the Missa solemnis; and likewise, his only opera, Fidelio. Beethoven Overview First of all, Beethoven was born and consequently raised in Bonn. Upon turning 21 he moved to Vienna probably to study composition with Haydn. That’s when he consequently grew a reputation as a brilliant pianist. Furthermore, he probably stayed in Vienna for the rest of his life. In his late 20s, it seems like his hearing certainly began to decline. It slowly declined until consequently, he was nearly totally deaf probably by the last decade of his life. As a result, he stopped conducting and performing. Nevertheless, he continued to compose. As a result, some of his greatest works probably come from this period. First Period Seems like we often divide Beethoven’s life into three periods. Period 1 begins with Beethoven’s arrival in Vienna. Hence, during this period, he mastered the Viennese style of Haydn & Mozart. He consequently began increasing the size and scale of his works. Furthermore, he experimented with extreme dynamics, and likewise extreme tempi. He worked similarly with chromatic harmony. His First and Second Symphonies, therefore, belong to this period. Other important works also belong here: the first six string quartets and the Sonata Pathétique, Op. 13. Second Period His second period probably began as soon as he realized that he was going deaf. During this period, it seems like he became obsessed with the idea of heroism. His works consequently become even larger and more massive. The most noteworthy of these include the symphonies 3 – 8, piano concertos 5& 6, 5 string quartets, several important piano sonatas (Waldstein and Appassionata), the Kreutzer violin sonata, the violin concerto, and his only opera: Fidelio. Third Period In contrast, Beethoven's third period is branded above all by works of incredible intellectual depth, formal innovation, and penetrating expression. It seems like he continued to expand his works. Consequently, the string quartet Op. 131 spills over into seven connected movements. Likewise, in the Ninth Symphony, he adds choral forces to his orchestra probably for the first time in history. Even more, other works from this period include his Missa solemnis, the final 5 string quartets (including the enormous Große Fuge), and the final five sonatas for piano. Â

Score and part. 7 pages. Kevin P Holdgate #970832. Published by Kevin P Holdgate (A0.1386947). This is an arrangement for solo instrument and piano pitched at around the level of ABRSM Grade 4/5 for most instruments. The range of notes is very compact with the difficulty steming from the often complicated rhythms and also the opening statement of the main theme is unaccompanied requiring the soloist to play with confidence and accuracy. The use of syncopated rhythms makes this an excellent repertoire piece.Heaven Is a Place on Earth is a single by American singer Belinda Carlisle from her second studio album, Heaven on Earth (1987). Written by Rick Nowels and Ellen Shipley, the song was released as the lead single from the Heaven on Earth album on September 14, 1987, and it reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 on December 5, 1987, becoming Carlisle's only US chart-topper to date. A month later it peaked at number one in the United Kingdom, where it held the top spot of the UK Singles Chart for two weeks. In Australia it peaked at number 2. It is considered to be Carlisle's signature song. The song was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1988, but lost out to Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me).

Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548742). Very strong arrangement for Easter. Duration: 2:48. 84 ms. Score: 7 pg. Solo part 1 pg. piano part 3 pg. Morning Has Broken is a popular and well-known Christian hymn first published in 1931. It has words by English author Eleanor Farjeon and was inspired by the village of Alfriston in East Sussex, then set to a traditional Scottish Gaelic tune known as Bunessan [1] (it shares this tune with the 19th century Christmas Carol Child in the Manger[2]). It is often sung in children's services and in Funeral services.[3] English pop musician and folk singer Cat Stevens included a version on his 1971 album Teaser and the Firecat. The song became identified with Stevens due to the popularity of this recording. It reached number six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, number one on the U.S. easy listening chartin 1972,[4] and number four on the Canadian RPM Magazine charts. The hymn originally appeared in the second edition of Songs of Praise (published in 1931), to the tune Bunessan, composed in the Scottish Islands. In Songs of Praise Discussed, the editor, Percy Dearmer, explains that as there was need for a hymn to give thanks for each day, English poet and children's author Eleanor Farjeon had been asked to make a poem to fit the lovely Scottish tune. A slight variation on the original hymn, also written by Eleanor Farjeon, can be found in the form of a poem contributed to the anthology Children's Bells, under Farjeon's new title, A Morning Song (For the First Day of Spring), published by Oxford University Press in 1957. The song is noted in 9/4 time but with a 3/4 feel. Bunessan had been found in L. McBean's Songs and Hymns of the Gael, published in 1900.[5] Before Farjeon's words, the tune was used as a Christmas carol, which began Child in the manger, Infant of Mary, translated from the Scottish Gaelic lyrics written by Mary MacDonald. The English-language Roman Catholic hymnal also uses the tune for the James Quinn hymns, Christ Be Beside Me and This Day God Gives Me, both of which were adapted from the traditional Irish hymn St. Patrick's Breastplate. Another Christian hymn, Baptized In Water, borrows the tune. -Wikipedia

Woods Only, Arrangements #758733. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1158447). This arrangement adapted for oboe e piano was written keeping the characteristics of the original work, in order to be performed by young music students who want to enter the symphonic music. Besides, it can also be used by professional musicians, for recitals, repertoire, academic presentations and didactic material. As much as it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion. The transcription is faithful to the structure, with only one change of key, so that it is comfortable for all the instruments in the formation, as well as for use in ensemble practice between musicians of different traditions. Ludwig van Beethoven began concentrated work on his Symphony No. 7 in A major Op. 92 in 1811, it was completed in 1812, and was dedicated to Count Moritz von Fries, and premiered in Vienna on December 8, 1813. It is considered a remarkable example of the more ebullient side of Beethoven's compositional personality and evidence that even after the onset of deafness, he still found cause for musical optimism. The second movement Allegretto is a funeral march in everything but name. Often several contrasting melodic ideas are made to coexist, as if Beethoven were imagining several processions converging on the cemetery at the same time. As he was working on this symphony during the years of the Napoleonic Wars, this experience was probably within his experience. It was also used as the soundtrack to the film Knowing, by director Alex Proyas and starring Nicolas Cage, where it is used in the final scene of the film. Beethoven called Symphony No. 7 his most excellent symphony, and a music critic of the time reported, this symphony is the most melodically rich and the most pleasing and comprehensible of all Beethoven's symphonies..

Jmsgu3 #3602933. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549890). Score: 12 pages, piano part: 6 pages, oboe part: 4 pages. duration: ca. 5'. This is the famous wedding march from Op. 61 composed in 1842 and commonly performed as a recessional march at the end of a wedding. The piece was originally composed for orchestra then arranged for organ and performed by Mendelssohn himself. Mendelssohn: Wedding March Mendelssohn’s Wedding March is so popular that it’s difficult to imagine a wedding without it. It seems like it’s been around for eternity. In any case, it was only 150 years or so ago that the Wedding March came about. It was performed in Potsdam for the first time in 1842, as a piece of Mendelssohn’s music for the Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It was first used for a wedding in 1858 Mendelssohn Background Felix Mendelssohn (1809 –1847) was, by all means, a German mastermind composer, musician and orchestra conductor of the Romantic period. Consequently, Mendelssohn composed in the usual forms of the time - symphonies, concertos, oratorios, piano music, and chamber music. To summarize, his most famous works include his music for A Midsummer Night's Dream, the Italian Symphony, the Scottish Symphony, The Hebrides Overture, his later Concerto for Violin & Orchestra, and his Octet for Strings. His most well-known piano pieces, by and large, are the Songs Without Words. Artistic Standing Musical tastes change from time to time. Moreover, just such a change occurred in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This plus rampant antisemitism brought a corresponding amount of undue criticism. Fortunately, however, his artistic inventiveness has indeed been critically re-evaluated. As a result, Mendelssohn is once again among the most prevalent composers of the Romantic era. Early Family Life Mendelssohn was, in fact, born into a prominent Jewish family. His grandfather was, notably, the philosopher Moses Mendelssohn. Felix was, in fact, raised without religion. At the age of seven, he was all of a sudden baptized as a Reformed Christian. He was, moreover, a child musical prodigy. Nevertheless, his parents did not attempt to exploit his talent. Early Adulthood Mendelssohn was, in general, successful in Germany. He conducted, in particular, a revival of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, specifically with his presentation of the St Matthew Passion in 1829. Felix was truly in demand throughout Europe as a composer, conductor, and soloist. For example, he visited Britain ten times. There, he premiered, namely, many of his major works. His taste in music was. To be sure, inventive and well-crafted yet markedly conservative. This conservatism separated him by all means from more audacious musical colleagues like Liszt, Wagner, and Berlioz. Mendelssohn founded the Leipzig Conservatoire which, to clarify, became a defender of this conservative viewpoint. Mature Adulthood Schumann notably wrote that Mendelssohn was the Mozart of the nineteenth century, the most brilliant musician, the one who most clearly sees through the contradictions of the age and for the first time reconciles them. This observation points to a couple of features in particular that illustrate Mendelssohn's works and his artistic procedure. Musical Features In the first place, his musical style was fixed in his methodical mastery of the style of preceding masters. This being said, he certainly recognized and even developed early romanticism from the music of Beethoven and Weber. Secondly, it indicates that Mendelssohn sought to strengthen his inherited musical legacy rather than to exchange it with new forms and styles or replace it with exotic orchestration. Consequently, he diverged his contemporaries in the romantic period, such as Wagner, Be.

Musical Features In the first place, his musical style was fixed in his systematic mastery of the style of preceding masters. This being said, he certainly recognized and even developed early romanticism from the music of Beethoven and Weber. Secondly, it indicates that Mendelssohn sought to strengthen his inherited musical legacy rather than to exchange it with new forms and styles or replace it with exotic orchestration. Consequently, he diverged his contemporaries in the romantic period, such as Wagner, Berlioz, and Liszt. Mendelssohn revered Liszt's virtuosity at the keyboard but found his music rather insubstantial.

Small Ensemble Oboe,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.977043 Composed by Paul SanGregory. Contemporary. Score and parts. 45 pages. Distant Engraver Music #3544695. Published by Distant Engraver Music (A0.977043). (The score and all parts are contained in one PDF download)Each movement of this lighthearted piece has its own special character and texture, and each requires careful attention be paid to a different ensemble technique. The first movement has sharply articulated chords played by piano, with oboes sustaining some of the notes as long quiet reverberations. Then, performers take turns playing melodic phrases in and around that atmosphere of changing harmonic colors. The second movement is called Chant because the lyrical melody seems somewhat austere, perhaps like a ritualistic chant, and because it is performed by two voices in a quasi organum-like style. Unlike a religious ceremony, though, the accompaniment for this melody is a brightly busy texture of chattering oboes with warmly articulated piano chords and occasional sparkles added. It uses a process technique borrowed from minimalist music, but a strong melodic and harmonic sweep gently carries it through to its delicate ending.

Woods Only, Arrangements #755169. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1154893). This adaptation was intended for a small group of oboe and piano, where the original essence of the piece was kept, however, with a reduction in the duration, where only the main themes of the opening were extracted. As it is simplified, it is intended for beginner students of instrumental music who want to enter orchestral music, even in a simplified and reduced form, and can be used by music teachers with their students in ensemble practice in situations such as academic recitals, didactic concerts, or assessment tests. The Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67, known as the Symphony of Destiny, by Ludwig van Beethoven, written between 1804 and 1808, is one of the most popular and best known compositions in the entire repertoire of European music. The four movements are characterized by orchestral homogeneity, being, at the same time, an example of alternation: the first movement, revealing great tension, denounced by the strings and raised to an extreme drama; the second movement reveals solemnity, in a funeral march that rises by its emotion and beauty; the third movement, a crispness; the fourth movement expresses triumph and magnificence.

Jmsgu3 #3554807. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549840). Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the voice is calling us) from Cantata BWV 140. Duration: ca. 4:00, Score: 6 pages, solo part 1 page, piano part: 4 pages. Program this for church services during the Easter season, weddings, or as a recital encore.Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the Voice is calling us) also known as: Sleepers Awake Bach composed his church cantata Wachet auf (BWV 140) as part of his second annual cantata cycle covering the entire annual church calendar. It is based on the hymn of the same name by Philipp Nicolai (1599). The hymn text covers the readings for the 27th Sunday after Trinity. Bach designed the cantata in seven movements, setting the stanzas in various forms. Among these forms are the chorale fantasia, the chorale prelude, and a four-part chorale. He casts the new lyrics as recitatives – in a manner similar to the opera. Fourth Movement Bach writes the fourth movement, Zion hört die Wächter singen (Zion hears the watchmen singing), in the style of a chorale prelude with the chorale phrases performed as a strict cantus firmus. The phrases seem to enter at times erratically against the famous lyrical melody. The violins play this melody in unison as a foil against the cantus phrases. The violin melody is so independent and complete that when the cantus melody appears it catches the listener at times totally off-guard. Bach later transcribed this movement for organ (BWV 645). This transcription became No. 1 of the Six Schübler Chorales. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with the instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and certainly the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio. History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he, therefore, gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer. Style It seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV. &n.

Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755293). This composition was composed for Trio De Bois (Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon) and Piano. There are three movements that are inspired by Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. It is especially appropriate during this 50th anniversary of the moon walk as the astronauts trained at this location. The first movement is called Violent Past. Much of this movement is built around the dissonant intervals of a half step and the tritone. These intervals are used both melodically and harmonically. The second movement is called Lunar Landscape and is more evocative rather than descriptive. It creates a feeling of vastness and openness. This movement is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of landing on the moon that is being celebrated at the same time that this movement was created. The Apollo 14 astronauts trained at Craters of the Moon in 1969 in order to learn more about volcanic geology. The movement is built around a walking passacaglia theme that is mainly in the left hand of the piano. After its initial statement, the passacaglia theme is accompanied by open 4ths and 5ths in the piano that later appear in the oboe and clarinet, and then in imitation between the piano and high winds. A more melodic variant of the passacaglia theme occurs in the bassoon over the original in the piano. All this material is developed before the opening material returns in the original key and tempo before eventually fading into the distance. Forces of Nature is the title of the third movement. There are five natural phenomena in the park that are represented musically, The Great Rift, Lava Flow, Vents, Cinder Cones, and Lava Tubes. Each of these have a motif that is descriptive and the motifs transform and combine as the movement progresses.

Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844636). Vintage pop romance! This accompanied instrumental solo is a Theme and Variations. For the Theme I used an extract from the 1906 hit pop song I Love You Truly by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, a celebrated female composer at the turn of century. With each variation the melody and rhythm evolve further from the original Theme. The tempo also increases slightly as you progress to each new variation. The first variation adds chromatic embellishment, the second variation syncopates the rhythm, and the third variation uses triplet patterns. More life is added to your romance with each variation! Each person who has heard this piece hears something different, but in all of them it conjures up vintage courting; and most say it would fit a soundtrack to an early silent movie. So, at heart, this piece is still a turn of the century love ballad, but livened up and fused with subtle influences from other styles and periods. Perfect for weddings where you are trying to please everyone; a bit pop, a bit classical, and totally romantic!Works equally well in a classroom or lesson studying Theme and Variations. The easy-going melody only has a range of just over an octave. Its beauty and technique suits it for any recital as well.6 minutes with repeats, 3 minutes without; 6 page score; 3 page solo partRecording is of the Cello/Piano version and doesn't take the repeats.
