"Rocky Road to Dublin" is a 19th-century Irish song.
Ittells of the trials and experiences of a young man as he travels to Liverpoolin England, via Dublin, from his rural home in Tuam, Ireland.
Thepiece is a favourite instrumental in 9/8 time. It has the characteristics of aslip jig, with five accents in the bar, on quavers 1,3,4,6 and7. These can beheard in the first bar in guitar 1. In the sung version, the singer sings ‘1,2, 3, 4, 5’ to correspond with these.
Thisarrangement balances the melodic interest across all four guitar parts. It issuitable for intermediate/advanced players.
Asplit screen video of the arranger performing the piece will be uploaded here before the end of March 2021.
