At the time, the couple were lovers, although MacColl was still married to his second wife, Jean Newlove. Seeger sang the song when the duo performed in folk clubs around Britain. During the 1960s, it was recorded by various folk singers and became a major international hit for Roberta Flack in 1972.

Here is the lead sheet version of the hymn, The Harvest of the Earthâ€, as heard on my YouTube channel and requsted by listeners. Originally titled “See How Brown Autumn Spreads the Fieldsâ€, this song is so rare that I couldn’t find any music for it online, and therefore wrote a new melody and accompaniment for it that captures the the solemnity and even anguish of the lyrics. It’s one of the songs of harvest off of my album entitled “Hymns of Autumnâ€, but doesn’t talk about harvest in the traditional sense we normally sing about these days.Not many talk about the judgement of God in today’s church, and this hymn will send chills down the spine of the most devout believer as we realize the full spectrum of God's character, including His wrath and power on Judgement Day. I found this in an old hymnal that was so old that the “Sâ€s were still written as “Fâ€s, and I had to squint to read it while learning to sing for this recording. I hope this ancient and powerful hymn finds a place to minister to today's church and believers around the world, perhaps after a sermon on God’s judgement, or for a Lent or Advent service about repentance and turning to God, both individually and as a nation.This version is in B Minor to match the original recording, and includes the chords for the whole song including the reharmonized verse with a different melody.Also available, by searching Stacey Plays Hymns and the song title on this site is the full piano vocal arrangement as played in the original recording.For other formats including large print, simplified, or extended choral harmony versions, please write me at staceyplayshymns@gmail.com and I'll be glad to make them especially for you. Always On My Mind did not see completion until late 1971. Songwriter-guitarist Wayne Carson had about two verses done, with the working title You Were Always On My Mind. He had been occupied in Memphis on a project that required him to stay ten days longer, and he phoned his wife in Springfield, Missouri, to apologize for the delay. She was angry, and he replied: Well, I know I’ve been gone a lot, but I’ve been thinking about you all the time. His words struck him as potential song material, and he quickly ended the call so he could capture the idea on paper.

The Miles Davis Quintet featured tenor saxophone player John Coltrane, pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Philly Joe Jones. The song became a Miles Davis specialty and it appears on several live session recordings and compilations in different versions. The tune was taken up and performed by countless jazz musicians and is still a favorite in jam sessions.

Their manager advised them to take a short break from their work and go to a movie theater to see the film. Richard and Karen were immediately taken with this song and agreed that it should be the follow-up to their previous hits. After returning home, they recorded it, released it in December, and it went gold in only two months. The Carpenters' success with this song helped it win the 1970 Oscar for Best Song.

It was introduced by Judy Holliday and Sydney Chaplin in the musical Bells Are Ringing in 1956. Judy Holliday and Dean Martin sang the song in the 1960 film of Bells Are Ringing. Martin then recorded it for his 1960 album, This Time I'm Swingin'. Tony Bennett recorded the song in 1956 and continued performing it until his retirement, at Radio City Music Hall, in 2021 at the age of 95.

It debuted in the motion picture The Lemon Drop Kid (1951), where it was started by William Frawley, then sung in the generally known version immediately thereafter by Bob Hope and Marilyn Maxwell. Silver Bells started out as Tinkle Bells. Songwriter Ray Evans said: We never thought that tinkle had a double meaning until Jay went home and his first wife said, 'Are you out of your mind?
