This beautiful version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Trumpet.The Londonderry Air was first collected and notated in the mid-nineteenth century in County Londonderry in the North of Ireland, however, the origins of the melody remain unknown. In 1913 the English writer Frederic Weatherley set his poem Danny Boy to the melody. There are many other settings of the Londonderry Air, with various lyrics and in musical styles from orchestral to brass band to jazz, but Danny Boy remains the best known.Londonderry Air is simply arranged in accessible keys and over a range best suited to the instruments. The melody is played twice with a key change and different accompaniment on the second verse and is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of a little over three minutes, this version of Londonderry Air is perfect for recitals and concert performance. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Trumpet. The words and music of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot are credited to Wallis Willis, a Native American freedman from Oklahoma. A local minister transcribed the song in 1865 and within a few years it became a firm gospel favourite. In recent times Swing Low, Sweet Chariot has been adopted by the Civil Rights movement on one hand, and the England rugby team on the other. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot is simply arranged in keys and range best suited to the instruments. The hymn is played three and a half times, once as a ballad, then twice in a slow rock style, before returning to the ballad at the end. This version is arranged as a duet in a Gospel style for one Flute and one Trumpet. Click on the YouTube link above to listen to a full length performance of this arrangement played on Clarinet.The melody of Silent Night was composed by Franz Xaver Gruber in 1918, a setting for the lyrics of a young priest, Joseph Mohr. After flooding had damaged the church organ in Oberdorf, Austria, Mohr asked local schoolmaster, Gruber, to write a Christmas melody to be accompanied by guitar. Silent Night was the result. The carol remained unpublished until 1833, but has since gained huge international popularity. Bing Crosby’s version sold more than 10 million copies and UNESCO has declared the carol an intangible cultural heritageWith a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Silent Night is perfect for seasonal celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. The gospel style is a fun, fresh and soulful take on this familiar tune.Silent Night is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The 9/8 meter may be feel unusual to some, and there is plenty of articulation detail to help deliver an authentic style. The melody is played twice, with a short intro and a bluesy outdo. This arrangement is suitable for players at an intermediate level.
