Gabrieli: Canzon Septimi Toni Ch 172 for Flute Choir

Woodwind Ensemble Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549201 Composed by Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Renaissance,Standards. 58 pages. Jmsgu3 #3460719. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549201). Instrumentation: 2 piccolos, 3 concert flutes, 1 alto flute, 1 bass flute, 1 cello. Arranged in two antiphonal choirs. Full Score: 28 pg. Study Score: 14 pg. Parts: 2 pg ea. Duration: ca. 3:00 Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and certainly instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and likewise reverberation for maximum effect. Seems like Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was rather the first to indicate them such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He therefore developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style. Polychoral Works Gabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He certainly used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Certainly, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, then consequently followed by a response from the group on the other side. Sometimes there was probably a third group positioned near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather more than two groups. The instruments, because they could be appropriately situated, could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements which seem bizarre on paper, can in contrast sound perfectly in-balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets along with his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Seems like Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material, but developing it by sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – which calls Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

Flute Choir,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Flute,Bass Flute,Piccolo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.817939 Composed by Adrian Dee. Contemporary. 73 pages. Adrian Dee #4413997. Published by Adrian Dee (A0.817939). This work consists of three short movements in irregular meters. The contrabass part is not optional but may be played on a regular bass flute if no contra is available. The first movement, Stomp is in 9/8, conducted in 4: (initially 3 + 2 + 2 + 2 changing to 2 + 2 + 2 + 3 halfway through) with a heavy pulse and a bluesy chord progression in E minor. The second movement, Waltz is in 3 (3 + 3 + 2) with a momentary straight 3 in the middle section. This sweet little melody in G major is a bright contrast to the aggressive first movement. The final movement, Reeling is in 5/8 (2 + 3) with a brief detour to 2/4 near the end, in E major. It is a joyous dizzy layering of twirling notes in the upper voices against a rising grounded melody in the lower voices. Each movement is 2 ½ to 3 minutes in length. This work is also available in a version for flute quartet (3 C-flutes and alto flute, or 4 C-flutes). Let me know what you think! adriandeeflute@gmail.com

Woodwind Ensemble Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813987 Composed by Franz Xaver Gruber. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Christmas,Instructional,Multicultural,World. 11 pages. Regis Bookshar #6636631. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813987). Flute Octet - Intermediate - Digital Download. This arrangement of Silent Night, or in German, Stille Nacht, would be a wonderful addition to any music library and could be performed for Christmas concerts, recitals, and, especially, church services. It is equally suitable for junior and senior high school students and even older musicians. Depending on their ability, younger musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (11 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.Silent Night is probably the most popular Christmas carol ever written. It was composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr and was first performed on Christmas Eve at St. Nicholas parish church in Oberndorf, a small village in present-day Austria. A young Catholic priest, Father Joseph Mohr, had written the poem, Stille Nacht, in 1816 and had gone to Oberndorf in 1817. The melody was composed by Franz Xaver Gruber, schoolmaster and organist in the nearby village of Arnsdorf. On Christmas Eve, 1818, Mohr brought the words to Gruber and asked him to compose a melody and guitar accompaniment for that night's mass, after river flooding had possibly damaged the church organ. The church was eventually destroyed by repeated flooding and has since been replaced with the Silent-Night-Chapel.According to Gruber, Karl Mauracher, an organ builder who serviced the instrument at the Oberndorf church, was enamored with the song, and took the composition home with him to the Ziller Valley in Tyrol, Austria. From there, two traveling families of folk singers, the Strassers and the Rainers, included the tune in their shows. The Rainers were already singing it around Christmas, 1819, and once performed it for an audience that included Franz I of Austria and Alexander I of Russia. They also gave the first performance of the song in the United States in New York City in 1839. By the 1840's, the song was well known and was reported to be a favorite of Frederick William IV of Prussia. During this period, the melody changed slightly to become the version that is commonly heard today. The version of the melody that is generally used today is a slow, meditative lullaby, or pastoral, differing slightly from Gruber's original which has a moderate tempo. The song has been translated into about 140 languages and has been recorded by many singers across many music genres. The version sung by Bing Crosby in 1935, has sold over 10 million copies as a single. In this arrangement of Silent Night, Regis Bookshar has kept the basic form of this familiar Christmas carol, but has also included a descant during the third verse. Also, in addition to this version for a Flute Octet, there are other arrangements of Silent Night available for a variety of instrumental ensembles. There are Quintets and Octets readily available for purchase. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that might also suit your needs.I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a wide variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this wonderful arrangement of Silent Night will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Woodwind Ensemble Alto Flute,Bass Flute,Piccolo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.581861 Composed by Hector Berlioz. Arranged by John Gibson. Romantic Period. 86 pages. JB Linear #2846671. Published by JB Linear (A0.581861). Set for flute choir by John Gibson (piccolo, flute 1-2-3, alto, bass, contrabass)The Rob Roy Overture for orchestra was composed in 1831 by Hector Berlioz with Sir Walter Scott's Rob Roy as inspiration. Scott's book took a rather romantic view of Rob Roy MacGregor as a Scottish Robin Hood character. Rob Roy was born in 1671 and became a folk hero and the focus of a number of movies. Berlioz used rollicking Scottish jig figures and many parts of the piece were later re-worked into his Harold in Italy for viola and orchestra.Berlioz's overture set for flute choir requires sufficient forces of players to carry off his intentions, so I suggest this be played by a large flute choir, preferably with at least 3 on a part for the flute, 2 on alto, and 2 on bass, A single piccolo and contrabass flute would be adequate. Of course, a smaller group could perform this, but a larger one might be more successful. The piece is about 9 minutes long.

Flute Choir,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Flute,Bass Flute,Piccolo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1314344 By Tooti Flooti. By Geraldine (Denny) Green. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary. 117 pages. Geraldine (Denny) Green at Oakmountmusic #903088. Published by Geraldine (Denny) Green at Oakmountmusic (A0.1314344). ALL PURCHASES COME WITH SCORE AND PARTSThe Divertimento for Flute Choir was requested by flautist David Greenalgh for the Flute choir Tooti Flooti and was written in June and July 2016. It has 3 short movements and a total duration of about 15 minutes. The outer movements are speedy, light hearted and sunny natured, while the middle movement is slower and rather haunting. The 3rd movement is the only one with a title, “The June Prune Tuneâ€, and there is a funny story behind the name. Many summers ago, my husband, Bob, and I were playing guitar and penny whistle together at home and I just happened to be snacking on dried prunes at the time. Bob joked that I should write a tune called the Prune Tune. I went a step further and said, June prune Tune, but it had to be written in June and I had to be eating prunes while actually writing it. Well, for the two Junes of 2014 and 2015 I tried to do it but no tune came. Nothing. Silence! Then, on the 1st June 2016 I was dashing home from work and I dived into a small corner shop for a sandwich and happened to spot a pack of dried prunes along with other dried fruits. So, in the local park, I stopped to have my butty and prunes while watching the birds and as I was eating the prunes a tune suddenly was there in my mind and I was subconsciously humming it. Like a thunderbolt it hit me! This was it! The June Prune Tune had arrived. Luckily I nearly always have paper on me so at once I scribbled it down, while munching very deliberately on the only two prunes left in the pack! Music doesn’t always have to be filled with sorrow and sadness and turmoil, even though much of mine is. But sometimes it’s just great to let the humour and flippancy flow, too, and simply enjoy having a good joke and a laugh. The Instrumentation is:Flute 1 – doubling Piccolo, Flute 2 – doubling piccolo, Flute 3 – doubling piccolo, Flute 4, Alto flute, Bass flute and string Double Bass.As the work was written for a specific group of players, the parts are single and do not divide within themselves. This, however, should not prevent it also working well with more than one player per part. The double bass part sometimes doubles the bass flute line, but also is an independent part in its own right.

Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05dsgxhs9qM&feature=youtu.beSheep May Safely Graze Sheep may safely graze (German: Schafe können sicher weiden) is a soprano aria by Johann Sebastian Bach setting words by Salomon Franck. The piece was written in 1713 and is part of the cantata Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd, BWV 208. The cantata's title translates The lively hunt is all my heart's desire, and it is also known as the Hunting Cantata. Like the same composer´s Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, it is frequently played at weddings.[1] However, it was originally written for a birthday celebration, that of Christian, Duke of SaxeWeissenfels. Bach was based at the nearby court of Weimar, and musicians from both courts appear to have joined together in the first performance in Weißenfels. Woodwind Ensemble Alto Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.582225 Composed by Amy Marcy Beach. Arranged by John Gibson. 20th Century. 10 pages. JB Linear #6609367. Published by JB Linear (A0.582225). Amy Marcy Beach (1867 - 1944) was a pioneering woman composer at a time when women were barely considered by music publishers. She has been acclaimed to be the first important American woman composer. As a child Amy was allowed rather than encouraged to further her obvious musical talent. She wrote in a mature and virtuosic style for piano with use of chromaticism, fine melodic lines, and Impressionistic styles. This is her Katy-dids set for small flute choir or quintet by John Gibson. (flute 1-4, and alto flute) A katy did is a type of cricket and this piece would classify as a rhythm game. Can you keep up with the cricket rhythms?

Flute Choir,Woodwind Ensemble Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1427858 Composed by Grant Horsley. Classical,Comedy,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Halloween. 41 pages. Grant Horsley #1008600. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1427858). A Hunky punk is a grotesque carving on the side of a building, typically found on Mid/ Late medieval churches in the UK. They are plentiful in Somerset in the West Country of England Though similar in appearance to a gargoyle, a hunky punk is purely decorative and has no other functional purpose whatsoever!! Unlike the gargoyle, which serves to drain water off the roof through its mouth. The theory behind hunky punks and grotesques in general, was that churches were designed to reflect the balance between good and evil, reminding worshippers of the narrow path leading through life. As a result, for every saint or animal that was intended to signify purity and ‘goodness’, there was also an ugly creature to signify evil and ‘badness’.Scored for six C Flutes, this piece is in concert D minor and begins with a medieval type of fanfare which occurs throughout. What follows is a haunting theme with lots of flattened 5ths and several discords to represent the uncomfortable nature of this statue. The staccato and accent direction in most of the piece gives the impression of walking on eggshells not knowing what lies around the corner! Then a brief legato section of the fanfare appears to provide a calmer atmosphere before eventually returning to the main theme and big ending. Set at intermediate level but on the youtube link there is the full score for you to assess suitability. It is nearly 5 mins in length and would be a great addition to a repertoire.Price is for full score and all parts.

Woodwind Ensemble Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.778282 Composed by Greg Danner. 20th Century,Contemporary. 80 pages. Avanti Music #2967835. Published by Avanti Music (A0.778282). Twitter, founded in March of 2006, is a social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to post short messages of no more that 140 characters. Because it works as an application on cell phones people can share information immediately. In its short time, Twitter has become embedded in our increasingly networked society. The composition Twitter takes five famous tweets-some serious, others funny, and some historic and presents a musical interpretation. In keeping with the idea that a tweet is a short message, each movement of Twitter is approximately 140 seconds long. 1. There’s a plane in the Hudson. I’m on the ferry going to pick up the people. Crazy. Janis Krums, 12:36 p.m. Jan15, 2009Janis Krums posted this text and the first photo of US Airways flight 1549 moments after the plane made an emergency landing in the Hudson River after hitting a flock of birds. His quick action helped to notify rescue workers and the media. 2. Today I interviewed a squirrel in my backyard and then threw to commercial. Somebody help me.Conan O’Brien, 3:54 p.m. Feb. 24, 2009 Shortly after being dismissed from the Tonight Show and finding himself in-between jobs, Conan O’Brien joined Twitter. As with many celebrities, a Twitter account can allow fans to stay in touch and feel connected. What was amazing in this case was that in just two hours after this first tweet he had over 125,000 followers-the largest number ever in such a short time. His number has since grown to nearly 3 million. 3. ArrestedJames Buck, 9:30 a.m. April 10 A graduate student from the University of California-Berkeley, James Buck was covering an anti-government protest in Egypt. Buck was caught up in a demonstration, and while being taken to jail had time to post a one-word tweet-arrested. Within seconds colleagues in the United States got word of his arrest and notified the university, the US Embassy, and a number of press organizations on his behalf, leading to his freedom. 4. We just made history. All of this happened because you gave your time, talent and passion. All of this happened because of you. Thanks. Barack Obama, 11:34 a.m. Nov. 5, 2008 The Obama 2008 campaign was historic on a number of counts, and the use of technology and social media was one of them. This tweet was sent to over 2.6 million followers just after the election. 5. Are you ready to celebrate? Well, get ready: We have ICE!!!!! Yes, ICE, *WATER ICE* on Mars! w00t!!! Best day ever!! MarsPhoenix, 5:14 PM Jun 19th, 2008 NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has made an innovative use of twitter by sending messages from the Mars Phoenix lander’s point of view. The message above is undoubtedly the most exciting news ever to be tweeted on behalf of an extraterrestrial robot.
