Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.873046 Composed by Sally Whitwell. Contemporary. Score. 11 pages. Sally Whitwell #6119391. Published by Sally Whitwell (A0.873046). A Week in November… and what a week it was! It was the week of the US Presidential Election 2020. As I write these words, the absurdist tantrums of the Trump-Pence campaign versus the reasoned compassion of team Biden-Harris continues even well after the results have been called in the Democrats’ favour. There will not be the usual respectful concession speech and transition of power. I worry every day about how these next few months will be so very difficult, maybe even dangerous, for my American friends. Those convoys of flag waving Trumpists gleefully, openly, encouraged by their ‘leader’, attempting to block the democratic process was horrifying to witness. Was America on the brink of civil war? It still doesn’t seem far fetched to think that as I sit in my studio on the other side of the world, feeling helpless. The only thing I felt that I could do for my friends over there was to offer them a way to feel safe and loved in the moment, a bit of musical mindfulness. It was in this spirit that I wrote the second movement of this work, subtitled A Pocket Full of Calm. My excellent pianist friends Erica Sipes (USA) and Sandra Mogensen (Canada) adopted my little tune, recorded it on their social media to share said moment in the moment as it were. I hope it helped. I mean, if I can bring to even just one person some sense of calm solidarity, I’m happy with that. The fifth movement in the set, Victorious, resolute, but gracious, was a stream-of-consciousness creative response to the Biden Harris victory and the way they handled it so eloquently, so humbly, how they gave the world a sense of optimism once more. For a long while, I’d felt that I probably wouldn’t be welcome in America. As a mixed race, queer woman I was the antithesis of everything they valued. But now, people like me over there can feel human again. The relief! As for the other days of that week in November, they are part of a continuing series of daily composition exercises I started back in October in an effort to end a lengthy period of pandemic-induced creative block. Using a combination of exercises from Music Composition Toolbox (Barbeler/Blom/Hindson) and Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategies I’ve been able to find my creativity again. Starting a composition ‘habit’ is the best thing I’ve done for my writing all year and is how I mean to continue for a long time. Sally Whitwell12 November 2020

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.995184 Composed by Anthony Bannach. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 16 pages. Anthony Bannach Music #5794481. Published by Anthony Bannach Music (A0.995184). I hope everyone has been doing well during this crazy time. Originally I wrote these preludes as parts of composing exercises for Alan Belkin's book Music Composition: Craft and Art. They sat around for a bit until during the quarantine when I took a look at them again. I realized that these pieces had a lot of character to them, and they were quite distinct in nature. The first movement is a simple ternary form piece which begins and ends in the key of g minor and has a very neo-romantic tonal space. The B section is a brisk, more straight-forward tonal texture, but has a fun little twist sequencing up near the end of the section. The second movement was composed with the B vs Bb dichotomy functioning as a germinating cell for the rest of the movement's material. More impressionistic and mysterious than the other two movements, it also lacks a more traditional formal structure, instead relying on the development of motivic cells to make the movement cohere together in a logical way. The third movement is also a modified ternary movement, but with the A sections being played at different speeds, and the second A ending having an outro section attached. The B section is also more like a sonata form developmental section (without the required tonic-dominant modulatory feature). This movement is not only tonally very colorful, but also dynamic in regards to tempo, slowing and quickening often, giving the piece a continual sense of renewed spirit. Rather than just release the preludes as seperate pieces, I found that when played in a certain sequence, they represent a progression of mental and spiritual being that many people have, including myself, been going through during this time. As such, I made them into a suite. If it brings you a little bit of joy or excitement during this time (and after this is over), that's all that I can hope for.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1485695 Composed by Andrei Hadap. 21st Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score. 44 pages. Andrei Hadap #1062766. Published by Andrei Hadap (A0.1485695). A Holiday in Naples (2021, rev. 2024) I. At the CarnivalII. A Merchant at the Spinning WheelIII. In the BallroomIV. At the Opera V. At the Plaza A Holiday in Naples is a five-movement programmatic work for solo piano composed in 2021 by Andrei Hadap. Composed in the late nineteenth century style, it depicts a lone traveller, on holiday, who explores the city of Naples in the same period. Each movement is a short scene that narrates the traveller’s experience during his visit through music. The first movement, At the Carnival, in sonata form, begins with a slow introduction as the traveller sets foot at the pier in the morning. The main allegro begins as he hears the carnival from a distance and proceeds to explore, represented by the scherzando-like figures. Short episodes of tranquillity interrupt the carnival as the traveller, in a reverie, looks out to admire the Neapolitan coastline. The piece ends as the carnival fades out into the distance. Contrasting with the festivities, the traveller encounters A Merchant at the Spinning Wheel, the title of the second movement. This encounter depicts the reality of the poverty-stricken region at the time. Here, the merchant is depicted in a trance-like state, as the monotonous arpeggiated figures at the piano are heard throughout. Later in the piece, we hear the agitated merchant spinning the wheel faster, distracted by the carnival, but eventually calms down towards the end. The third movement, In the Ballroom, the traveller enters a ballroom, observing the dancers from a distance. He finds himself drawn to a young woman, though slightly nervous, whom he invites to dance. In the middle section, we hear the awkwardness between them as they both stumble frequently. Eventually, he regains his composure and the two dance well into the evening. In the fourth movement At the Opera, the traveller then goes to a nearby opera house where he walks in during a love duet between a tenor and soprano. The final movement At the Plaza, the traveller encounters the carnival once again. This time, they are dancing a tarantella, a Neapolitan folk dance depicting the involuntary muscle spasms from a venomous spider bite. The traveller joins in and dances with them until sunrise.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.950865 Composed by Moshe S. Knoll. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 15 pages. ArtsAhimsa #6077001. Published by ArtsAhimsa (A0.950865). This is a slightly revised version of the composition by the same name previously published here on Sheet Music Plus.Years of playing through it have suggested some interesting harmonic changes to the original score. This is a lament, a nostalgic reverie, in a style reminiscent of Piazzolla. The basic meter (3+3+2 eight notes) is interrupted three times by a livelier one (3+3+3+3+2+2 sixteenth notes), and the value of the sixteenth note must be the same for both meters, to get the desired effect.Reflections was composed as the second movement of the Elegiac Triptych in memory my friend and mentor, the great American Conductor and ArrangerMaurice Peress (1931- 2017).

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1125783 By Michael Swedberg. By Traditional French Melody. Arranged by Terrence Niska. Christmas,Contemporary,Holiday. Score. 8 pages. Niska Music Publishing #726523. Published by Niska Music Publishing (A0.1125783). As much as “O Come All Ye Faithful†is a lullaby, this arrangement is brimming with a sense of hushed excitement right from the opening measures as the two young girls from the title race to tell the town of the glorious events taking place. The first statement of the melody enters in the right hand with rather simple harmony, but the left hand keeps the excitement alive via a flowing stream of sixteenth notes. There is an abbreviated return of the opening material which leads to the second verse, but this time the left hand rises up to ring out with a bell-like tolling to awaken the townspeople. Meanwhile the right hand plays the melody in octaves, ringing out above to announce the news to one and all. By the third verse, the left hand is playing chords like a brass choir underpinning the melody, which now finds itself amid a flurry of triplets as the joyous tidings news spread far and wide. There is a return to the opening section, concluding with a final cascade from the top of the keyboard to the bottom and ending with a final “Amen!â€.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.987083 Composed by Eric Paul Nolte and Felix Le Couppey. Arranged by Eric Paul Nolte. Contemporary,Instructional. Score. 5 pages. Eric Paul Nolte #1954995. Published by Eric Paul Nolte (A0.987083). This piece is a free adaptation and a complete reworking of a study by Felix Le Couppey (1811-1887), from his L'Agilité, Opus 20, 25 Progressive Studies for Mechanism and Light Touch. In its original form, this study was a charming little piece of musical fluff. But getting it up to speed reduced me to tears! It also gave me an epiphany of immense power that transformed my technique. Suddenly I could play faster than I had ever thought possible, and I could do so with a thrilling ease! This epiphany emerged from the spluttering frustration I felt over my inability to play these sixteenth notes at Le Couppey's metronome marking of 144. It dawned on me that I couldn’t play fast enough because I was tripping over my own fingers when I used the overly articulated technique of moving the fingers by the lift, throw, relax method. This superfluous motion creates an impenetrable barrier, a speed wall, as does playing legato scales by passing the thumb under the palm, when shifting hand position up and down the keyboard. So I found another way-which I’ve since learned was known to every pianist who ever achieved prodigious speed. Here’s how to bring this piece up to speed with ease: Be sure to practice this piece with each hand alone. For each group of sixteenth notes, gently place the four fingers down simultaneously, to get the feel. Think of your arm, from elbow to fingertips, as something like a kitchen utensil, such as a spatula. Moving your right arm as a unit, place your finger tips down into the key bed, depressing all four notes at once, as a block chord. Make sure that all the fingers remain stiff (not rigid with tension, but just stiff enough to resist collapsing upwards.) Slowly lift and then play each group by placing all the fingers down with a rotation of your forearm, calm and relaxed, with the fingers rolling through the notes at the speed of a brief snare drum roll: Rrrrip! To rip through this group of notes like this takes no more effort than to place those four fingers down, calmly, all at once! Then, with a quick shift up or down the keyboard to get into position for the next group, that’s the whole trick for playing such passages with astonishing speed and ease! It takes time and effort to get the knack here, but the result can be transformative and thrilling! As for my adaptation of this study, I believe it offers intermediate advanced players the chance to enjoy a great leap in technique like the one I experienced, and also offers a piece of music that one might not blush to play outside the practice room-perhaps bringing it at least into the living room for a soirée, if not into the concert hall. To make this adaptation, I wrote a grumbly bass line with lungs, and nice fat chords to flesh out most of the skinny little triads that accompany the original study’s fast passages. I added a brooding, chromatic introduction that features as a melody the accompanimental figure of a broken triad that Le Couppey wrote a few times on the second page, in various inversions. I employed this broken chord figure several more times in both hands, and also added a little coda, sprinkled with sparkle. Playing time is about 1 minute and 30 seconds.

ISMN 979-0-800277-00-9.David Fraser wrote the first 41 measures of â??Rhapsody No. 1â?? in 1997 and subsequently completed this piece and all other works in this volume over the course of six months in 2019. When playing the original 41 measures of â??Rhapsody No. 1â?? in 2019, Fraser noted that the music had some resemblance to works by Sergei Rachmaninoff. This encouraged Fraser to compose the remainder of this piece in a manner reminiscent of Rachmaninoff and, consequently, author a suite of solo piano pieces as homages to some of his favorite composers. In Rachmaninoffâ??s famous â??Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43â??, variation 18, the composer uses an upside-down inversion of a small melody by Paganini. Similarly, Fraser uses a backwards inversion of a small melody from Rachmaninoffâ??s variation for the Rhapsodyâ??s â??Adagioâ? section, which starts on Page 3.Le Cynge noir {The Black Swan} is the second piece Fraser authored, dedicated to his beloved piano composer, Maurice Ravel. In this piece, Fraser wrote in his own style while evoking images such as a swan gliding on a lake, peering at its reflection in the water, and taking flight into the clouds with its wings rustling in the wind. Fraser gleaned inspiration for this piece from Ravelâ??s song for voice and piano â??Histoires naturelles - Le cygneâ??, set to a poem by Jules Renard. In addition, Fraser alternates between the keys of C-sharp major and A major as a depiction of the magical swanâ??s internal conflict in choosing to exist as a black or white swan.Fraserâ??s third composition is â??Sonata No.1 Gothicâ??, dedicated to Sergei Prokofiev, not as a representation of this genre of music, but in form. Specifically, Fraser uses a similar structure in Movement 1, starting at Measure 72 marked â??più mosso e con abbandonoâ?, to the notoriously difficult â??colossaleâ? section of Prokofievâ??s â??Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 16â??, Movement 1. The sonataâ??s Movement 3 also follows a structure parallel to Movement 4 of Prokofievâ??s aforementioned piano concerto, employing fiendishly challenging syncopated jumps in both hands. Written in ternary form, Movements 1 and 3 of Fraserâ??s sonata are in C minor; Movement 2 is in E-flat minor, instead of the expected relative or dominant key. This work has explosive sentiments of rage that elicit a sense of immensity and darkness, touching on the macabre yet maintaining an alluring nature. The fourth piece of this suite, â??L'océan {The Ocean}â?? dedicated to Claude Debussy, uses whole-tone scales throughout as lyrical motifs. The composition unfolds with the allusion of the sun glimmering on ocean waves, followed by the playfulness of eddies and gusts of wind. These themes merge into one another as the wind increases in ferocity, culminating in the start of a storm with sudden strikes of lightning preceded by the reverberation of thunder. The pitter-patter of rain on the water steadily evolves into a full tempest that engulfs the middle section of the piece. As the storm subsides and the ocean calms, night has fallen and the twinkling of stars in the firmament are reflecting upon the water. The piece ends with the return of the opening theme as the sun swiftly rises above the ocean on the horizon.Prelude No. 1 L'adieu {The Farewell} offers rich and lush harmonies with an enticing melody. This piece was written in memoriam to Fraser's mother.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1384065 Composed by David Fraser. 20th Century,21st Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score. 39 pages. David Fraser #968426. Published by David Fraser (A0.1384065). David Fraserâ??s third composition is â??Sonata No.1 Gothicâ??, dedicated to Sergei Prokofiev, not as a representation of this genre of music, but in form. The inspiration for the second movement comes from the German fairy tale Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm. The music begins with Hansel and Gretel walking into the witchâ??s house made of gingerbread, cake, and candy. The children have a sense of unease and fright once they enter the house, which is demonstrated in the music by the eeriness and darkness of the harmonies. The term oscuro is found at the beginning of the music â?? this is the Italian word for dark. The repeat, which begins at measure 25, is marked sempre sotto voce which translates to always under the voice, meaning always in a hushed tonal quality and dynamic volume. This section represents the children trying to tip-toe out of the house without the witch taking notice. The repeat is almost identical to the beginning section, with the exception of measures 39 and 40 which have ties in the right hand; the similar measures 15 and 16 in the first section do not have these ties. The right-hand trills in measures 53 through 55 symbolize the children attempting to quietly turn a key to unlock the door, which would lead them to freedom. This is the full version of the Sonata, containing all three movements, and is the third piece from 'Hommages: Suite pour le Piano'. 39 pages. This étude is one of energetic character with simple, yet powerful melodies and rhythms that create a sense of curiosity. I composed this piece in a simpler form when I was around 17, in my high school music theory class. All of the ideas were there, melody and structure, but what it lacked was experience. It felt flat. So, 5 years later, after I rediscovered the piece, I decided to put some time into adding flavor, excitement, and intrigue. In doing so, I hope that I've created not only a technical challenge that will strengthen your skills, but a fun piece of music that you'll love to play!Split into three parts in an ABA format, this piece features a main theme divided by a softer second theme, both of which provide technical challenges in their own rights. The first focus of this étude is to build stamina in maintaining rapid octave progressions in each hand. This is coupled with quick jumps in the right hand that require precise and deliberate movements to perfect. The second focus is to strengthen control over legato passages in rolling arpeggios, while maintaining a delicate touch for the melody, and exercising the dynamic range of the fingers. In practicing this piece, it is very important to start slowly and with definitive control in all sections! It cannot be stressed enough how much of an impact bad habits can make on the execution of this étude. If you work diligently on finger control and technique, it will stick with you in all of your future endeavors! Be warned though: this is a difficult piano solo. It will take time and effort to learn, however, those efforts will all pay off in the end. Don't let it discourage you. I wish you all luck in learning this étude, and if you have any questions at all, please feel free to email me at walkingreject@gmail.com.

Piano sonata in Neoclassical style, developing the themes briefly tried out by Beethoven in the slow introduction to the Finale of his Sonata No. 29 op. 106 (1818). This first movement (Allegro moderato) utilizes the first two of those melodic and textural scraps as the two themes of a sonata form in a mostly delicate, fantasia-like manner, with time signature ambiguity and alternance. The second movement (Allegro) utilizes the next two of those melodic and textural scraps as the two themes of an agitated 'scherzo' in G sharp minor, with allusions to Bach's Prelude in C minor from the second book of 'The Well-Tempered Clavier' and to Beethoven's Bagatelle in G minor, op. 126 no. 2. The Finale (Largo - Allegro ma non troppo) utilizes first the searching sections of that Introduction, as an enigmatic preparation of the big surprise in the Finale proper: a set of nine, mostly powerful variations on a tone row, yet treated not entirely with the twelve-tone technique, but in extended tonality context. Variations 2-5 allude to motifs from the themes of the previous movements. The mp3 is a self-made recording of the first movement using a Graf 1826 fortepiano sampled by Modartt's Pianoteq. Published by ArtsAhimsa (A0.1253097). This is a large scale Tryptich, inspired by Debussy's Suite pour le Piano. It was begun in 2021 and it kept being re-written till 2023.I dedicate this Tryptich to the loving memory of the great American Pianistand pedagoge Mr. Beveridge Webster, who was my last teacher at Juilliard. The first piece is a Prelude, playful but not too carefree, the dance-like atmosphere gets interrupted several times by a serious, contemplativeChorale-like passage. The second piece, Nocturno-Fantasia is a desolated landscape of pain and despair,a reflection of the harsh times the human family has had to endure these last three years. The last movement, is a large-Scale Toccata in the Phrygian Mode, usingirregular time signatures. This Toccata must be played in strict tempo, to highlight those irregular rhythms.Dies Irae is referenced in both the second and third movements, discreetly, just beneath the surface. This Cycle of three can be performed as a unit, or as three separate pieces. It is designed to give virtuosi a new warhorse for competitions, certainlythe Toccata.I do believe this Toccata has great technical value for pianists as an Etude in articulationand rhythm.Beyond this, I hope that this music will express a wide range of human sufferings and aspirations, and that it will deliver an emotional catharsis for all potential listeners. With this composition I am joining the large group of composers who have created New Music these last few years, music testifying to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

THE GREAT WALL CONCERTO for 2 Pianos, 4 Hands 33 Pages(Piano I Original Piano Score)           &(Piano II Orchestra Adaptation)Advanced Approx. Duration 13 minutes; 30 secondsBy ROBERT VAN HORNE Composing THE GREAT WALL CONCERTO for Piano & Orchestra was a journey of inspiration, passion, and deep personal connection for me. Having traveled to China, I was most impressed with seeing the Great Wall. Years later, I composed a musical work for piano and orchestra - a creative and classic concerto, capturing the Great Wall's grandeur and majestic attraction. My first visit to the Great Wall of China was in 1983 while engaged as a pianist onboard a cruise ship that sailed the waters of Asia. My first impression of seeing the Great Wall and the scenic landscape surrounding it, was one of awe and amazement. At that time, I did not realize the lasting effect this memorable attraction would have on me. Inspired and motivated by several cherished Chinese excursions to the Great Wall during my cruise ship engagement, I began the monumental task of scoring music for piano and orchestra several years later. An excerpt from 2008 Music Teacher of California Magazine review states “…The Great Wall Concerto is pleasant to listen to and has a retro 1940’s movie soundtrack mood about it - Rachmaninoff style chords against melodies in the strings...Listening to this piece, I imagined a film starring Joan Fontaine and Claude Rains as star crossed lovers fleeing their respective spouses on a visit to China.â€After many years of offering the original Conductor’s Piano & Orchestra Score of the concerto with instrumental parts (currently available at Sheet Music Plus and Sheet Music Direct), the Duo Piano Score of THE GREAT WALL CONCERTO for 2 Pianos, 4 Hands is now also available at those two websites. Both Piano I and Piano II parts are clearly notated with phrasing, dynamics, accents, suggested fingerings and musical word descriptions for 2 Pianos, 4 Hands performances. THE GREAT WALL CONCERTO for 2 Pianos, 4 Hands makes a wonderful and memorable performance piece for two piano recitals as well as a score for practicing with an orchestra, since Piano I is the original piano part.A 2 Pianos, 4 Hands recording or video of THE GREAT WALL CONCERTO is not available at this time, however, a 2006 recorded version with Piano & Orchestra is available for demo purposes only. Except for the piano, all other instruments included are digital samples. A YouTube video can be viewed at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_Zr10XMnJc In conclusion, THE GREAT WALL CONCERTO For Piano and Orchestra is not only a tribute to the Great Wall of China, but also to the power of music in expressing the inexpressible.Published by White Piano International Publishing Robert Van Horne is a member of ASCAP.Official Website: www.robertvanhorne.comEmail: rvh@robertvanhorne.com

Published by TheComposerStudio.Com, LLC (A0.1320814). Movement I. Light by the Beauty of MusicThis movement opens with a driving energy that does not diminish until the final passages.  The opening theme continues to cycle over accenting sonorities in counterpoint with a 2nd theme that spins forth in perpetual motion.  From here emerges a pair of folk themes in tandem. I quote the Romanian folk song:  On the Freedom Plains along with a counter theme that I composed in a minor mode. I want to thank my Moldovian friend, Natalia Rojcovscaia-Tumaha for inspiring the inclusion of this quote in this movement. This basic cry for freedom among people that have identified with a country where generations have lived and died was the sentiment that I wanted to capture in this music. The movement ends with an unresolved flourish that slowly dies away suggesting the mysterious uncertain nature of music. Movement II. DeliquesceThe second movement is a simple song-like narrative that speaks in short rhythmic open phrases. The music progression in variation form.  All the while, a spinning thread of notes orbits this narrative, eventually cascading into a perpetual motif that ends suspended in space.Movement III.  Light Upon WaterThe third movement continues the perpetual motion of the second movement and transforms into a running tapestry of harmonic statements that build to a euphoric choral declaration.  After a reflective, improvisatory middle section, the cascading perpetual motion of the opening returns. The conclusion of the movement is signaled by what I call a crossing cadence:  the theme in full chordal orchestration is accelerando in the right hand and is retrograde, ritardando in the left hand.  Finally, a short coda finishes the sonata.  © 2022 William Grosvenor Neil  williamneil.net   thecomposerstudio.com  support: thecomposerstudio@gmail.com.

The waltz was established in many respects thanks to the creativity in the fifty of the musicians kula (the so-called cool jazz - cool jazz). Interest in the waltz was shown by several major musicians of this direction, such as Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Dave Brubeck. One of the first waltz themes to penetrate jazz was Frank Churchill's most popular melody from the movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Soon waltzes written by jazz musicians began to appear. The jazz waltz represents the lyrical side of jazz along with the jazz ballad and bossa nova. The collection includes works by Soviet and foreign authors. The latter are represented by the names of R. Rogers, B. Evans, D. Brubeck, P. Desmond with his famous Take Five waltz and others. Dave Brubeck (in whose ensemble alto saxophonist Paul Desmond played) was perhaps the first to experiment with five-, six-, seven-quarter time signatures, widely using variable time signatures, polyrhythm; a typical example of a waltz of variable size belongs to the young Moscow pianist Daniil Kramer (Caprice). Recall, by the way, that an example of a five-quarter waltz in symphonic music is found in Tchaikovsky (second movement of the Sixth Symphony). We hope that the collection will be of interest not only to jazz musicians, but also to a wider circle of music lovers.-Yuri Chugunov.

Stephen R Dalrymple #4966281. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818281). Élegié in E Flat Minor for solo piano (Classical Music for Tablet Series) ♫ by Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninoff (Opus 3.1) ♫ Rachmaninoff (born in 1873) , Russian composer, virtuoso pianist, and conductor, was considered one of the finest pianists of his day. His compositions belong to the Romantic period of music history. He graduated at the Moscow Conservatory in 1892. After the premiere of his First Symphony in 1897, the negative reaction by an important critic sent him into a tailspin of depression that lasted several years. ♫ In 1909 he performed a series of 26 performances with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the USA. In 1914 he travelled to England for a concert tour. ♫ In February 1917 on the day the Socialist Revolution began in St Petersburg, he performed a benefit piano recital in Moscow for wounded Russian soldiers. When he returned home, he found that a group of Social Revolutionary Party members had seized his property as their own communal property. He had invested most of his earnings on the estate, but left it behind. Rachmaninoff's concert performance in Yalta on 5 September 1917 was to be his last in Russia. The chaos and tension of the October Revolution was daunting. He composed with the noise of gunshots and rallies in the background. He received an invitation to perform 10 recitals across Scandinavia. He accepted the offer, using it as an excuse to obtain permits so he and his family could flee Russia. ♫ He returned to the USA in November 1918 and America became his home. When he became an American citizen in 1943, Sergei Rachmaninoff said: “This is the only place on earth where a human being is respected for what he is and what he does, and it does not matter who he is and where he came from.†He died in March 1943 from cancer at the age of 70. (condensed from Wikipedia - October 2022) ♫ Rachmaninoff’s Opus 3 contains 5 piano pieces. The first is the Élegié in E Flat Minor, the second is the Prelude in C# Minor (one of his most famous piano compositions). This opus was finished in 1892, when he was 19 years old. The Prelude in C# Minor is loud, explosive, and declarative; the Élegié in E Flat Minor is soft, fluid, and contemplative. ♫ Edited for 10 inch tablet by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ Sequenced by the Editor ♫ The Classical Music for Tablet Series offers piano masterworks by classical composers formatted to be read on 10 inch tablets. I use an Amazon Kindle with Mobile Sheets Pro and an Air Turn blue tooth foot pedal to practice and perform piano music. Similar products available to provide other tablets the same functionality. ♫ The pieces in this series have not been arranged, but most have been edited slightly, and have been formatted to fit screen size. For example, in the tablet versions, first and second endings are often removed and the repeated measures and endings written into the music so the performer can avoid having to go back to previous pages. These kinds of section repeats were invented to spare the composer’s time and the cost of extra paper and ink. But with a tablet the cost of paper and ink is irrelevant. ♫ Although there are a lot more page turns with a 10 inch screen compared with letter size pages, the readability of the music (due to the backlighting on the tablet) and the portability of the music (travelling with a small tablet instead of oversized books or portfolios of sheet music) easily makes up for the extra page turns. ♫ Your purchase provides one .pdf file that contains both the tablet edition and the letter size page (printable) version. There are several programs available online that will allow you to separate this .pdf file into 2 .pdf files to make it more useful.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533692 Composed by Carson Cooman. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Sacred,Standards. Score. 17 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3038635. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533692). Biblicals: Concerto for Solo Piano in Five Movements (1998) was commissioned from thecomposer by an anonymous benefactor for pianist Kathleen Supové in tribute of her tirelesssupport of new music. The work is in five movements, each inspired by a different biblical quotation which isquoted in the score before each movement. If possible, these passages should be printed inthe program or read aloud before the performance of the work. Each movement isprogrammatic only in an internal sense. While the movements do not attempt to directlyportray the action of the passage in a storybook sense, they do attempt to capture the overallaffect of the verse. The form of the work is as a concerto for solo piano drawing on a titlethat has been used in the past by numerous composers. Likewise, although the work does notinvolve an orchestra, I have titled it concerto because it contains elements of a concerto solopart and because of the virtuosity required to perform the work. The work explores a widerangeof styles from quasi-lyrical to highly chromatic. Throughout, the work has a rhythmicintensity which should be observed by the performer. The first movement, Hovering Over the Waters, makes use of an irregular rhythmic patternintroduced in the opening measure and used throughout the work. Irregular and nervousrhythms using chromatic intervals pervade the entire movement. The second movement, Baldhead, is a forceful and loud movement making use of the clashbetween diatonic and pentatonic clusters. It is relentless in its pounding energy, irregularrhythms, and volume. This movement is dedicated to American composer Daniel Pinkhamon the occasion his 75th birthday in 1998. The connection of this movement to Pinkhamcomes in the superimposition of pentatonic and diatonic clusters, a technique used so well inone of my favorite Pinkham works, Blessings for Organ (1978).The third movement, Forgiven and Free, presents a tranquil scene involving the building ofchords, standard and otherwise, through the adding of tones one at a time. Brief chromaticmelodies appear and then disappear quickly. The fourth movement, Under the Sun, makes use of a motive involving four chords over a lefthand bass consisting of a major-tenth chord. This motive appears throughout the movement, constantly breaking in and interrupting the action. A variety of irregular rhythmic motivesappear throughout as a contrast to the main motive with its strict rhythm. Quotes of nurseryrhyme tunes are hidden throughout the movement as well in various forms. The fifth movement, The Seventh Angel, is a fast and furious tarantella. As the movementflies by a variety of musical ideas emerge and then disappear into the main motive again. The music continues to get faster and faster and finally the movement ends with a furiousprogression from the bottom to top of the piano and then a thunderous unison chord in thelower register.

Published by Sean A Moore (A0.1397074). GILT-EDGE†is a piano sonata in three movements. The sonata features dissonance, clusters, irregular rhythmic patterns and meters, syncopation, and extremes in textures and dynamics. The work is mostly intervallically/motivically based with the entire keyboard being utilized as a sort of sonic canvas as diverse as the world itself. The first movement, “GILT-EDGEâ€, has the same name as the title of the composition. The movement is emotionally intense, beginning loudly with a forearm cluster crash at the low end of the instrument and with a fast tempo. However, the first movement of the sonata ends slowly, quietly and sometimes dreamlike all while expressing a very dark mood. “Hopewellâ€, the second and somewhat more melodic movement, has a more meditative quality. This movement is inspired by the image of a quiet country road and an uncomplicated way of living that sometimes isn’t always what it seems. The final movement, “Antiochâ€, written on three staves, returns the listener back to the emotional complexities of the first movement. However, this movement does not end quietly. In this short explosive last movement, the sonata reaches its dramatic conclusion.

I don't want it bogged down too much in the baggage of Hamlet, which is obviously impossible. The words in the title matter, and Shakespeare words is the best. The basic idea of the piece is death. In the first half, the protagonist feels death approaching. The middle march section is death's grasp, and the second half is the after-life dream. Sometimes we feel miserable with our lives and just simply desire that escape into a world that cannot harm us anymore. And sometimes it is okay to feel that, and to express that. Whatever may come after death, in the end, doesn't matter, because death is such a finality to life. I know for me, this piece lifts up my spirits and helps me enjoy life more. Our ability to express, particularly through music, the pains we may be feeling, is one of the greatest gifts we humans possess. I hope everyone is able to enjoy this music and my expression.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.882093 Composed by Samuel Wellman. Contemporary,Ragtime. Score. 12 pages. Samuel Wellman #1942605. Published by Samuel Wellman (A0.882093). The contemporary nature of these pieces comes partly from the individual titles. How many times have we heard on the phone, 'This conversation will be recorded for quality control'? So the first rag is 'This Piece May Be Recorded for Quality Control.' Why? Because the main sections are in seven sharps. Best of luck to you. The second rag refers to the modern computer age: 'Press Any Key to Continue,' and the beginning is indeed a seemingly random series of notes, which are then gathered together for a chord. This chord then forms basic material for the rest of the piece. The final rag borrows from merchants who may, for instance, have circulated an ad with a misprint. Correcting the misprint, the merchant then invariably offers this: 'We Apologize for Any Inconvenience.' So how inconvenient is the rag I have written? Haha: play through it and you will discover quite a few inconveniences. But I apologize for them in advance.

Instrumental Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.818287 By Stephen R Dalrymple. By Arnold Schoenberg. Arranged by edited by Stephen R Dalrymple (Dalrymple Designs). 20th Century. Individual part. 8 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #4979561. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818287). Fünf Klavierstücke I Sehr Langsam (Opus 23 Number 1) (Five Piano Pieces) by Arnold Schönberg (1874-1951). ♫ This opus was written in 1923. Piece # 1 is written in Schoenberg's atonal style, but is a precursor to his 12 tone pieces. Number 5 in the series was Schönberg’s first published 12 tone composition.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1150422 Composed by Carrie Jacobs-Bond. Arranged by Phil Beaman. 20th Century. Score. 5 pages. Phil Beaman #750599. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.1150422). Over Hills and Fields of Daisies is a piano solo arrangement of the 1902 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano. I have created three variations based on the original piece. After a thick chordal introduction, the first variation places both hands up an octave in a 2/4 time scherzo with a slightly altered melodic rhythm and minim/half note blocked 7th chords in the LH. The second variation further changes the melodic rhythm to 3/4 time and elaborates the chordal harmony. The third variation dramatically extends across three staves back in 2/4 time, with the melody only implied in half-time and thick cascading chords in both hands, (a la Rachmaninoff's Preludes, written just the year before this piece). 5 page score; 2:54 minutes This piece is also found in my book, Carrie Jacobs-Bond, Popular Songs 1900-1925, a collection of 51 of her songs I have arranged for piano solo, which is also available on this site.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1027238 Composed by Tayren N. Ben-Abraham. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score. 10 pages. Tayren N. Ben-Abraham #2039327. Published by Tayren N. Ben-Abraham (A0.1027238). This solo piano work describes the unfulfilled aspirations of a person or group of people and aims to be as a meditation by which these aspirations can be offered at the time of performance together as one voice along with the performer. This work is suitable for recitals, to be placed as solo repertoire as part of a concert, and more. Aspirations is suitable for all audiences. It is suitable for performers who are at an advanced level of piano skills to the professional. The entire work lasts approximate 7 minutes long. This piece was written in January and February 2012 with the official finishing date being February 28, 2012. It is my first serious piece which was composed in my undergraduate studies at Valley City State University under my professor Jorge Variego. The first 22 bars were conceived a year earlier as a sketch. This piece is part of the Valley City Collection, which describes works of music I composed while living in Valley City, North Dakota. The piece in the beginning involves bitonality, the bass being in A minor and the melodic line being in F major. The main theme is given much room to develop and soon runs into the secondary theme at measure 45. At measures 48 to 50 the main theme returns only to introduce the third theme at measure 51 to 52 then returning to the first theme. At measure 73, another theme enters to transition back to the main theme that is a variation at measure 81 to the end. Mainly composed in 12/8 time, the work concludes in 4/4 time. Piano - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6388 For piano. Composed by Thomas Larcher. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 10 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6388. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6388). Noodivihik deals with time on a macro and a micro level. The macro time level is divided into two parts: fast and slow. The first part (‘citric acid’) works with two basic rhythmic patterns and their irritation through the addition or subtraction of note values. The interweaving of the two sectors, in which these basic patterns appear separately, results in a structure of the time in the middle (that is, within 'critic acid').The second part ('leave your baggage unattended') combines the aforementioned two levels through the superimposition of natural and prepared tones on the piano. This all occurs within a three-layered, endless pattern. (Thomas Larcher).
