Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.998878 Composed by Robert A. Howard. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Instructional. Score. 3 pages. Robert A. Howard #6383281. Published by Robert A. Howard (A0.998878). The Fragment series of short piano pieces was conceived for pianists of almost any standard. As suggested in the title, each piece is based on a single compositional fragment or sketch that had otherwise remained incomplete and dormant. Fragment IV is a modern-day two-part invention. The piece explores various permutations of the opening four bar subject, passed between the hands throughout. Meanwhile, a second part is created by using the initial idea in canon, or by introducing a secondary scalic subject. The work is in a ternary structure, with the opening section returning in a shortened form, and with parts swapped over, as the final part. Meanwhile, the middle section explores the initial subject in augmentation, with a varied secondary part. The piece is highly accessible and is appropriate for almost all standards of pianist, including students and more advanced players. Other works from the Fragment cycle are also available via Sheet Music Plus.Duration: 2 minutes 30 seconds.Registered with PRS (Performing Rights Society, UK).Composer's website: www.roberthowardmusic.co.uk

Piano Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.733166 Composed by Heinrich Schenker (1868-1935). Arranged by Benjamin Ayotte. 20th Century. Score. 10 pages. Ayotte Custom Musical Engravings #3424921. Published by Ayotte Custom Musical Engravings (A0.733166). Schenker is known to have sent Julius Röntgen a copy of his Zweistimmige Inventionen. He seems to have been particularly fond on no. 2 of the set of four. He wrote to Röntgen on 13 April 1901, I hope that Invention No. 2, of which I am very proud, interests you. It is indeed rather quick-I mean passionate, deliberate, very expressive! It is here, primarily, where I’ve breached modernism. It would make me very happy if this invention pleased you. Patrick Miller offers this assessment of these works vis-à -vis Scheker’s other published output:The four pieces in this set seemingly mark a departure from the dense harmonic and rhythmic textures of Schenker’s previously published piano compositions. The intricate melodic lines of these pieces, however, imply a texture rich with harmonic and rhythmic details. … The first invention is a delicate chromatic study, while the second invention is an intense chromatic piece based on the B–A–C–H motive, Bb–A–C–B. With regard to thematic material and texture, the third invention is the most transparent of the set and is an exacting study in finger articulation. The fourth invention is a canon and, according to a printed footnote, is ‘a study after JS Bach’s Invention no. 2 (C minor) .

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1029561 Composed by Peter Daniel Klein. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 13 pages. Peter Daniel Klein #6401141. Published by Peter Daniel Klein (A0.1029561). This musical piece is comprised of two twelve-tone rows, atonal music based on synthetic scales unique to each composition, which are based on medieval plainsong chants whose systemization was begun by Pope Gregory I during the sixth century AD. A simple explanation of this composition is that it is the world's oldest notated music combined with modern 20th-century music theory that eschews traditional melody and harmony for synthetic scales unique to each composition. The music is complex and dissonant, although the conversion of the two plainsong chants to twelve-tone rows retains a semblance of a tonal center at given points throughout. Still, the entire piece of music is that same melody utilized harmonically: just forward, backward, upside-down, backward and upside-down, rhythmically altered, transposed, displaced up or down, or split into smaller cells and then reprocessed in the same way mentioned above. I have also borrowed the Baroque Period techniques of the two-part invention and four-voice fugue combined with serial musical techniques that may offend the average listener's traditional musical sensibilities but make logical structural sense. I used the Dies Irae (The Day of Wrath) and Tuba Mirum (The Last Trumpet Call). The authorship of the chants has been attributed to many saints from Gregory to Thomas of Celano but probably evolved from early Jewish psalmody carried forward by the earliest Jewish converts to Christianity, which further developed into trochaic metered poetry by successive monks. It was set to memorized plainsong heralding back, in part, to Jewish worship. The text of the Dies Irae is very similar to Zephaniah 1:16. The last trumpet call that raises the dead in Christ is comparable to the Apostle Paul's account written in his first epistle to the Corinthians Chapter 15 and first epistle to the Thessalonians Chapter 4. The two epistles may, or may not, be related to the Final of the Seven Trumpets bringing God's Judgement on the earth spoken of in Revelation 11. The relationship of the trumpet mentioned in the epistles to those written about in Revelation divides theologians, but I digress into unrelated matters. Despite the modern theory, the music is still movingly visceral because of its conceptually descriptive nature. It is full of aural symbolism following the Dies Irae and the Tuba Mirum, making it a type of program music ala Hector Berlioz of the Romantic Period. The music is, therefore, genuinely eclectic because it has blended qualities of several musical periods. The final section of the video explains the symbolism. The music difficulty is virtuosic, extremely taxing to play.

Piano - intermediate - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q7083 Composed by Friedrich Zehm. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Schott Music - Digital #Q7083. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q7083). The compositions of Friedrich Zehm (1923-2007) are characterized by the desire for clarity, conciseness and general comprehensibility. His freely tonal works are influenced by elements from various epochs while having a close connection to classical modern music. Formed from distinct rhythms and refined counterpoint, Zehm develops his very own tonal language, quite often accompanied by a wink. Although Zehm's music is unmistakably in the contemporary style due to its freely tonal structure, it is never radical and incomprehensible, thus taking away the player's inhibitions about modern classicism. In his 6 Inventionen, Zehm takes up traditional forms and fills them with extended musical material by expanding the tonal framework and using lively rhythms and concise themes in a complex manner. Inventionen is aimed at the advanced piano pupil who is interested in modern music - an excellent introduction to classical modern music!

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.597548 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Flavio Regis Cunha. Christmas,Concert,Romantic Period,Sacred. Score. 12 pages. Flavio Regis Cunha #6447257. Published by Flavio Regis Cunha (A0.597548). This is a unique and delicate arrangement for solo piano that you can play at Christmas celebrations, services or even recitals in your home. You, your family, friends, audience or congregation will love to hear the beautiful and delicate harmonies, the different rhythms and variations that this interesting arrangement presents. I hope you enjoy it.Hark! The Herald Angels Sing is an English Christmas carol that first appeared in 1739 in the collection Hymns and Sacred Poems. The carol, based on Luke 2:14, tells of an angelic chorus singing praises to God. As it is known in the modern era, it features lyrical contributions from Charles Wesley and George Whitefield, two of the founding ministers of Methodism, with music adapted from Vaterland, in deinen Gauen by Felix Mendelssohn.Wesley, who had written the original version as Hymn for Christmas-Day, had requested and received slow and solemn music for his lyrics, which has since largely been discarded. Moreover, Wesley's original opening couplet is Hark! how all the welkin rings / Glory to the King of Kings. The popular version is the result of alterations by various hands, most notably by Whitefield, who changed the opening couplet to the familiar one. In 1840-a hundred years after the publication of Hymns and Sacred Poems-Mendelssohn composed a cantata to commemorate Johann Gutenberg's invention of movable type printing, and it is music from this cantata, adapted by the English musician William H. Cummings to fit the lyrics of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, that propels the carol known today.
