This is my (Thomas Gunther’s) Solo Piano Arrangement of Over The Rainbow. (Also see PopJazzKeys.com/Over-The-Rainbow).I believe the arrangement is suited for intermediate to advanced players. There are different technically demanding elements to it, from polyphony (which require great finger independence), to the techniques associated with the Romantic period (like the ability to work the sustain pedal, arpeggios, and playing thick chords). WHO IS IT FOR?I think classical and jazz pianists will both love it for different reasons. Classical musicians might like to play something more contemporary with a jazzy touch. And jazz musicians might like to studying it for inspiration, or to improve their sight reading and technical skills, or simply because they love it.ABOUT THE SONG Over The Rainbow is one of my favorite classic jazz standards. Most of you might know it from the classic movie The Wizard Of Oz, for which it was actually composed (and sung by Judy Garland).I love everything about this song, it’s melody (which is so cleverly based on a descending diatonic stepwise motion during the [A] section), the harmony, and of course the lyrics that inspire us to believe there might actually be more to life than what we are experiencing day in and day out, well worth dreaming about and searching for.ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF LYRICSTo me it is important to study the lyrics of a song before I start arranging it. Piacevole Pleasing, pleasant, smiling, playful scampering along without much sense of urgency. Doesn't require advanced technical or reading skills other than being familiar with reading and playing in the key of A flat. It does require the ability to play very evenly though, nothing bumpy in this piece! Level 6. II. AgitatoLike a wildly spinning top that only twice comes to an abrupt stop, the A section pressing forward and unforgiving, the B section playful and light, this needs to be played Allegrissimo which is very fast but with a different character than Presto. It requires a well-developed technique that can handle RH passage work with ease. Level 8, due to the very fast tempo. III. FantasiaStarts very sweet and gentle, softly like a Nocturne - though without the lilting character - but quickly changes character, several times, before developing into a fff coda-like ending which after just a few measures disappears into nothingness. Key changes and chromatic writing as well as unexpected harmonic shifts make this piece potentially not easy to read. However, rhythmically it is uncomplicated, and technically, everything fits the hands very well. For instance, LH arpeggiated accompaniment patterns over more than one octave are always ascending and hardly ever fill the entire measure. What this piece requires is a well-developed sense of flair and an intuitive ability to create drama and suspense, both with touch and timing. Level 8.IV. FugaceNote-wise identical to the first piece, Piacevole, but played much faster, in a fleeting manner, flying away. Needs an extremely light touch. Level 7, due to tempo and the need for subtle shading.

This is when i studied the holy bible from the time i got up to the time i went to bed for years i must have read it 1000 x or even more anyway it was at the time i remembered the scripture saying in the future says the LORD i shall write and pin thy word (law) in there hearts so i said cool lord may i ask you for that gift? instantly GOD knocks me out without any pain and i had a dream i saw him put the holy bible in my mind and heart from then on i new it all off by heart ye true but Satan hated the gift GOD gave me and coursed me to forget it all i was tempted like no other i only new GOD EXISTED and Satan was his enemy i had forgotten it everything else Satan appears to me saying the same temptation he said to GOD SON and offered me to be king of all the cosmos i said no way Satan i rather be in poverty then a king against GOD i said no no way and said i will war with you Satan for if you are GODS enemy you are also my enemy i also said what JESUS CHRIST said to him not remembering the holy bible at all by nature the holy spirit withing me gave me this song as i wrote it after i finished i sang it to GOD as i remembered about his son i sang it to him also after i finished singing i then was helped by GOD and remembered the holy bible ones again i said wait one moment this song is coming from the book of revelation and true it dose i said how did GOD son knew about me and that i will write this so many centuries before my time? this strengthened me to know he knows all things and said thank you to him so on Satan still gets me to forget it all from time to time and tempts me but i pass by the help of the holy spirit he then helps me remember again thanking him now

Published by Austin Kitchell (A0.871133). This arrangement came about because I was disgruntled at how NOT-ragtime (for lack of better words) most piano solo versions of this song were. I eventually got sick of this and wrote this arrangement. I also added the key change because of one recording I heard of Billy Joel playing this piece, except he played it really slow, and then sped up the recording before posting it, but in doing so, the whole song went up a half step. I liked how it sounded in that key, so I implemented it halfway through this arrangement. It does make the 2nd half quite a bit harder, but as they say, you can't have everything in life.Other than that, I hope you enjoy this song. It's a lot of fun.
