My Prelude on the tune CWM Rhondda (God of Grace and God of Glory) is intended for church pianists looking for interesting arrangements of hymns familiar to their congregations. It is written in a conservative modern style with an abundance of parallel seventh chords and perfect fourth intervals. The piece begins with a lengthy introduction that incorporates snippets of the hymn tune, while rising from a pianissimo dynamic level to forte, and then receding back to a soft dynamic level. The mid-section boldly references the first and third phrases of the tune leading to a climax, followed by a concluding brief return to the style of the opening introduction. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

Formerly of New York and currently living in Sedona, Arizona, Louis has dedicated his life to music. His career has taken him around the world playing a variety of styles with some of the most recognized names in the entertainment industry. He toured nationally and internationally, playing classical music for Mikhail Baryshnikov; jazz fusion with The John Payne Band; Latin music with Pucho and his Latin Soul Brothers; pop music with Rupert Pina Colada Song Holmes; and rock & roll with John Hall, opening for Little Feat. Louis began playing the piano by ear at 4 years old and began lessons at 5. Grandpa's Boots is a 2 page intermediate level piece in the key of D major. It is the first piece from a set of pieces entitled Fiddle Tunes for Keys. This set of pieces was inspired by three separate encounters with fiddle music and beautiful scenery in the Shenandoah River Valley. There is narration in the recordings that tells the sweet story of how a young couple meet. Grandpa's Boots is a fast paced, rhythmic piece imitating an impromptu boot stomping dance performed to fiddle playing. There are parallel thirds, octave leaps, chord inversions, staccatos, accents, and complicated rhythms. Other pieces available in this suite are: Meadow Song, A Jig For Grandma, True Love's Promenade and River of Remembrances.

I have written these twenty-four pieces with the idea of having the first two notes of each of them start with a different interval.I’m delighted that pianists are starting to perform them in concert, and all 24 have been recorded by Hadassah Guttmann. He toured nationally and internationally, playing classical music for Mikhail Baryshnikov; jazz fusion with The John Payne Band; Latin music with Pucho and his Latin Soul Brothers; pop music with Rupert Pina Colada Song Holmes; and rock & roll with John Hall, opening for Little Feat. Louis began playing the piano by ear at 4 years old and began lessons at 5. As a teenager, he played guitar and keyboard in bands and went on to study music at Stony Brook University, Boston Conservatory and Berklee College of Music. For the past 32 years, through his production company, Landon Music Company, Louis has written and produced music for film, video, and commercials. He recorded his first original album, Love Songs & Jazz, in 1994 and has since released 41 Albums/CDs, on the LCI Record label. 34 of those albums/CDs are solo piano releases. Thad and Finas (Etude #13) is based on the harmonic progression used by George Gershwin in his song, I Got Rhythm, widely known as rhythm changes. The form is AABA, divided into 8-measure phrases. The first chorus (mm. 1 -32) consists mostly of two-handed chordal textures with the melody on top in the right hand. This chorus includes harmonizations, chord voicings, and melodic shapes similar to those used by jazz composer and arranger Thad Jones. The second chorus (mm. 33 - 64) consists mainly of single solo melodic lines in the right hand with shell voicings in the left hand that lightly support the melodic lines harmonically and rhythmically. The third chorus (mm. 65 - 96) begins with melodic lines played in unison with both hands two octaves apart, a style of soloing that jazz pianist Phineas Newborn Jr. (Finas) perfected in the 1950s and 60s. In the fourth chorus, beginning in measure 97, the harmonic progression is altered in the A sections, borrowing a clever cycle of fifths progression that was first developed by jazz pianists Art Tatum and Thelonious Monk in the 1940s. Before the piece ends there is a brief moment of stride left hand accompaniment that propels the piece to an exciting conclusion.

ISMN 979-0-800277-00-9.David Fraser wrote the first 41 measures of â??Rhapsody No. 1â?? in 1997 and subsequently completed this piece and all other works in this volume over the course of six months in 2019. When playing the original 41 measures of â??Rhapsody No. 1â?? in 2019, Fraser noted that the music had some resemblance to works by Sergei Rachmaninoff. This encouraged Fraser to compose the remainder of this piece in a manner reminiscent of Rachmaninoff and, consequently, author a suite of solo piano pieces as homages to some of his favorite composers. In Rachmaninoffâ??s famous â??Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43â??, variation 18, the composer uses an upside-down inversion of a small melody by Paganini. Similarly, Fraser uses a backwards inversion of a small melody from Rachmaninoffâ??s variation for the Rhapsodyâ??s â??Adagioâ? section, which starts on Page 3.Le Cynge noir {The Black Swan} is the second piece Fraser authored, dedicated to his beloved piano composer, Maurice Ravel. In this piece, Fraser wrote in his own style while evoking images such as a swan gliding on a lake, peering at its reflection in the water, and taking flight into the clouds with its wings rustling in the wind. Fraser gleaned inspiration for this piece from Ravelâ??s song for voice and piano â??Histoires naturelles - Le cygneâ??, set to a poem by Jules Renard. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.1150422). Over Hills and Fields of Daisies is a piano solo arrangement of the 1902 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano. I have created three variations based on the original piece. After a thick chordal introduction, the first variation places both hands up an octave in a 2/4 time scherzo with a slightly altered melodic rhythm and minim/half note blocked 7th chords in the LH. The second variation further changes the melodic rhythm to 3/4 time and elaborates the chordal harmony. The third variation dramatically extends across three staves back in 2/4 time, with the melody only implied in half-time and thick cascading chords in both hands, (a la Rachmaninoff's Preludes, written just the year before this piece). 5 page score; 2:54 minutes This piece is also found in my book, Carrie Jacobs-Bond, Popular Songs 1900-1925, a collection of 51 of her songs I have arranged for piano solo, which is also available on this site.

Published by Christopher Benfield (A0.909876). Christopher Benfield's first piano sonata, Recluse, combines classical style with the emotional explosiveness found in much of his compositional style. Composed of three movements, this piece will challenge many pianists technically and expressively. Each movement explores the different aspects of being secluded from society; heart-wrenching loneliness in the first movement, furious activity in the second movement, and dream-like acceptance in the third movement. This music is a good addition to any piano recital, or a full performance of solely this work. This is the third movement of the sonata.
