The captain calls for the sails to be furled lest they be torn to shreds by the gale force winds. They have endured many storms before, but this is unlike any The Tempest has encountered. The men try to lift their spirits with tales of what has come before and the acts of heroism which have helped them to survive. Their bravado is cut short as the storm intensifies. Lightning flashes across the sky and they realize now that there may be no coming back from this voyage. The swells grow ever larger and cracks can be heard throughout the ship as support beams and masts give way under the tremendous stress. There is no hope of reaching the safety of land as she begins to take on water, but the crew does not abandon their posts…they do not know the meaning of surrender. A final series of cracks can be heard as The Tempest slips beneath the waves into the waiting abyss.

A joyful jazzy melody that works well at various tempos, but is most joyful when played about 160 = quarter note. The written-out improvisation section has the most technically advanced moments. In difficulty, this falls somewhere between advanced-intermediate and the lower end of advanced. Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness. This is what I tried to capture in the music: great sorrow, futility and hopelessness.

The intricate and melancholy harmonies combined with the haunting melody exudes an atmosphere that is at once hopeless and hopeful where it moved to the major key, albeit short lived. Here, the 'poet of the piano' truly live up to his title. His mastery in the harmonic progressions was without question.

Published by GreenFlash Productions (A0.1024441). The first of six Nocturnes in the Opus 4 set. This Nocturne is based on a traditional Armenian Hymn which is the opening melody line. To be performed quietly at a slow Andante tempo, the chant-like melody gives way to a fantasia section which develops the sigh gesture inherent in the shape of the main melody. During the fantasia the countermelody is presented with the two melodies as counterpoint in the coda. The work is readily accessible to the intermediate pianist for recital or sacred performances.I've dedicated this piece in memory of my Mother-in-Law, Alice Elmadjian whose angelic soprano voiced has been lost. I've endeavored to create a modest collection that, when performed together, offers a glimpse into various emotional landscapes.Fugue No. 1 in C Major (Allegro vivace):The journey begins with the lively Allegro vivace in C major, a modest 01:44 celebration of joy and energy. It is my hope that this piece, with its brisk tempo, serves as a lively opening to the collection, showcasing the pianist's skill and the intricate counterpoint I aimed to achieve.Fugue No. 2 in B-flat Major (Andante):The second fugue, marked Andante with a duration of 02:25, introduces a contemplative mood in the key of B-flat major. In my modest attempt, this piece invites the listener to reflect and explore a more introspective side, providing a gentle contrast to the preceding fugue.Fugue No. 3 in A Major (Adagio):With a deliberate pace of 02:57 and an Adagio tempo, the third fugue in A major emphasizes melody and expression. My humble intention was to create a serene and emotional landscape, allowing the listener to experience a deeper connection with the music.Fugue No. 4 in D Major (Allegretto):The final fugue, an Allegretto in D major, lasts a mere 01:40. In a departure from convention, I introduced an Eastern or oriental scale, aiming to infuse the composition with a unique character. Waltz No. 10 by Brendan Reeves My favorite composer is Chopin. His influential work has inspired many composers, including myself, and this piece is in many ways a tribute to him and the Romantic style in which he composed. Its purpose is to evoke feelings of love and beauty in those who listen. When you listen to the piece, I hope you will appreciate the subtle details in the music. In addition, I hope you will feel how the music, in true Romantic style, builds to a climax and settles down again before ending. It begins sweetly in dolce as the theme of the piece is revealed. As it continues, it moves into the B section of the piece which is played con brio. After the con brio section, it goes back to the dolce before finishing. The piece finishes in a style called leggerissimamente, meaning as light as can be. The name of the piece, Waltz No. 10, is simply named for being the 10th waltz in a series of waltz’s I have composed. I hope you enjoy listening to the piece as much as I have enjoyed creating it.

Here's a vocal chart with a lead sheet. Sensitively written with the lyrics in mind, this keyboard chart plays well in a prelude, offertory, or where ever you want more of Living Hope! It's easy to play through the entire arrangement, although it could get a bit long– as long as Phil's recording– which is why a few shortcuts are spread throughout enabling it to be trunckated. Play 1 or 2 verses then 1 or 2 choruses and either end it there or continue through to the end. 3 key options available: C, D, and Eb. (It was originally arranged in C, then transposed to D & Eb. Some chord voicings and fingerings might need to be adjusted in those keys.

This beautiful piece was written during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. The pianist is directed to play Sadly, but with hope. With an ostinato in the bass, the theme is stated simply in a minor key, then repeated with octaves, as if pleading. The B section introduces a new contrasting theme in the relative major key, providing the hope needed to survive the loneliness and fear with which so many are suffering. The bridge to the last statement of the theme once again employs octaves with the G# repeated tones building tension to the same longing with which we began. This piece would be suitable for church services where contemplation is requested, such as preludes, offertoires, or communion.

It's meant to be a humourous piece and is played better with a smile on one's face!I always strive to keep my music as simple as possible to read and to that end don't include pedal markings, fingering or dynamics as I prefer to leave that to the individual pianist and no 2 piano teachers would ever agree on such things. I hope you have as much fun playing it as I did arranging it.
