Classically-trained pianists are often asked to “play some quiet background music†which is non-invasive, that will support the event without bringing attention to the music itself, and can be brought to a graceful close quickly. “What to play?†is not the only challenge, but also, “What do I do if I run out of music before the event is done?†or, How can I bring a piece to a close if I'm told to stop playing before the piece is over?†“HELP! I can't improvise! I offer you a set of beautiful phrases that are uniquely purposed to fill these needs - and more. Peaceful Measures is a set of twelve four-measure, repeatable, interchangeable phrases with very little melodic distraction. Start with any phrase that suits your need, such as background music for a pastoral prayer. Repeat one phrase indefinitely or flow directly to any other. Skip around. Each phrase leads to all others, and all lead to your choice of two clearly labeled Endings. Because this download includes the seven most commonly used major keys, Peaceful Measures can also be used as vamping material until the song you are accompanying is ready to sing. Or use a phrase to extend a song in order to continue its mood. Print only the pages of the key you need now, or the whole set for quick referrals later. Explore their flexibility for other purposes, such as the passing of Communion for example: find your favorite phrases to repeat, then flow into the Ending that will serve the best timing. Need quiet music filler for an unknown length of time? Choose a phrase and repeat, then go to an Ending of your choice. Everything is written out for easy navigation and on-the-spot reading. The recording I have included is a series of phrases, some repeated, in F Major and uses Ending I. Pianists will discover even more settings for these versatile phrases! Not only are they great for worship services of any faith, they serve as background music for speeches, funeral prelude music, dedications of any kind, wedding filler music, civil ceremonies, personal prayer, and calming meditation music for groups large or small. This is a great little piece, in C Major, for teaching the general concept of dynamics and more specifically echo. The phrases are simple with the echo being created by the dynamic changes between phrases. The song, which spans multiple octaves, has clear indications for octave shifting placed right in the music. The basic 5 finger hand position is maintained throughout. Additional interest is created through the use of slurred, staccato & legato phrasing. I Think I Hear An Echo was reviewed in Clavier. The piece is written in 3/8 time and has the following musical form: Measures 1-8: Phrase 1 of the theme in A minor, a quiet melody played by the right hand accompanied by arpeggios in the left hand Measures 9-14: Phrase 2 of the theme, in C Major Measures 15-22: Phrase 1 returns in A minor Measures 23-37: Contrasting section in F major, modulating to C Major and back to A minor Measures 38-58: Theme returns (phrases 1-2-1) Measures 59-81: Contrasting agitated section set over a pedal point on A and ending in arpeggios and a chromatic descent Measures 82-end: Theme returns(phrases 1-2-1) Scholars do not agree as to whether there should be a D or an E in measure 7 (second note, right hand) and in subsequent similar passages. However, most modern editions show a D, as you'll see in this arrangement.

Everybody Deserves Somebody to Love is a musical story in which two characters, who work together, are at a joyful party, with lots of dancing and drinking. Both are in love with each other but social, family, and professional issues prevent them from getting together. However, one of the characters absorbed by the joy of the party (too much to drink, maybe) decides to insist in the relationship. The other character is hesitant and afraid to face such challenge. At the end of the song they decide to take the chance. The piece is structured in a rondó form with the following parts that I called: Introduction (I); A; B; C; I; A; D; A; C; I; A. Imagine a rock and habanera cake with Scarlatti syrup. The layers are: A: An invitation. They say phrases like: “Come to me because I need you nowâ€. B: Expression of pure desire with phrases such as: Hey! I can Ìt control myself now. B could be called A’. C: In a syncopated rhythm is argumentation. One party is trying to convince the other about assuming their relationship singing like that: “Everybody deserves somebody to love. I can help you to carry on. Just give your life a second chanceâ€. D: Is a moment of reflection. One of the characters is at greater risk and says: I´m afraid, love hurts sometimes. It won´t be so easy to start a new life now.â€.

It came a year after Fauré's Nocturne in D flat major No. 6, which ended a six-year hiatus from writing piano music for the composer. Fauré was also in the process of evolving his keyboard style toward bolder harmonic and thematic means of expression, but this work is largely conservative, even exhibiting hints of Schumann, especially in the main theme. That theme, marked Quasi adagio, is stately and presented in short, somewhat repetitive-sounding phrases. It has an expressive depth in its mixture of the noble and gloomy, of elegance and splendor. The first variation does not stray far in mood or in thematic change, but the second is lively and playful, exuding brilliant, almost Rachmaninovian colors. The ensuing variant is moderately paced, but still quite playful in its greater muscle. The music in the Molto Adagio sixth variation may offer the greatest depth here, and that in the Andante molto moderato eighth variation, the dreamiest and most serene. With the tenth variation, the music turns quite lively and colorful, and in the concluding 11th, the mood shifts to a quiet, reserved manner at the outset to a serenely triumphant one at the end.
