Published by David McKeown (A0.592548). It’s Been a Long Long Time is arranged as a solo for one Alto Saxophone with Piano accompaniment. It’s Been a Long Long Time is best known to modern audiences as the song at the end of The Avengers, Endgame, where Steve Rogers, after seventy years, finally gets his dance with Peggy Carter. The song of course, is much older. Two versions of It’s Been a Long Long Time topped the charts in late 1945, and as US servicemen returned from Europe and the Pacific, it perfectly caught the mood of the times. One version was by Bing Crosby, and the other by the Harry James Orchestra featuring Kitty Kallen on vocals. It is the latter version that is heard in Endgame and the one that forms the basis of this arrangement.Musicians at an intermediate standard will find It’s Been a Long Long Time ideal for formal and informal concert performances. with both solo instrument and piano enjoying plenty of melodic interest. Part: 1 pageO Come, All Ye Faithful O Come, All Ye Faithful is an English translation of the Latin Christmas carol Adeste Fideles. No one knows exactly who wrote it, but one theory is that it was originally composed by King John IV of Portugal (1604–1656) and revised by John F. Wade and John Reading. Nowadays, we usually attribute it to John Wade. The oldest manuscript from 1751, is owned by Stonyhurst College in Lancashire. Lyrics The English translation O Come, All Ye Faithful was certainly written by Frederick Oakeley, a Catholic priest in 1841. This translation is the most common in English speaking states. To begin with, the hymn had only four verses. Later, the verses grew to eight. Often, various verses are omitted because otherwise, the song is just too long. Some believe the first Latin lyrics were written by St. Bonaventure (13th century) or King John IV of Portugal in the 17th. Though others think it was written by the Cistercian monks. King John IV King John IV of Portugal was called The Musician King. He became king in 1640. In addition to performing the duties of a king, he was also a composer and music journalist. King John built a very large music library. Unfortunately, the library was ruined in 1755 because of the massive earthquake of Lisbon. In addition to his library, the king started a Music School that produced many accomplished musicians. The king also worked diligently to get instrumental music approved by the Vatican for use in his churches. Aside from his authorship of Adeste Fideles, he is famous for another popular choral setting of the Crux Fidelis, a prevalent Lenten hymn. Performance in Context As mentioned above, verses are sometimes left out because all eight verses would take too long to perform. More to the point though, some of the verses may be unsuitable for whatever of the church calendar they are intended. The eighth verse deals with the Epiphany, so it makes sense to sing this on Epiphany Sunday, but not other Sundays. Similarly, other verses are used according to whether the event is Midnight Mass or regular daytime Mass.

Phil Beaman #3517817. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844547). Robert Franz was a Romantic Era composer of lieder (German Art Song) whose pieces were highly praised by Schumann. When I removed the important lyrics from Feast of Love in order to make an accompanied instrumental solo I needed to convey the passionate drama just in the music. I changed a simple strophic form into an ABA Coda with every verse getting a different treatment. My harmony is much richer and more varied than the original. I added new articulations, dynamics, and other markings as well as a cadenza for one of the bridges. Excellent piece for a student to learn Romantic characteristics of expression, phrase shaping, and sempre rubato. This song is also excellent for Weddings. Alternative translations of the title are Celebration of Love and Love's Fire. You can definitely feel the fire and passion in this beautiful piece!This arrangement is not difficult to play, but is marked Early Intermediate because it requires musicianship to play well.3 minutes4 pages score, 2 page solo partTemporary recording of piano reduction of full score.

My Saxophone and Me consists of fourteen short and delightful pieces written especially for absolute beginners up to students at elementary level. The book comes in two versions, one for B flat saxophones and the other for E flat instruments. However, for obvious reasons you cannot mix B flat and E flat instruments in the same group. The pieces are intended as supplementary material to your usual tutor books. The music can be used with any number of players and the pieces remain in the lower register. Several early pieces use only the notes B, A and G and the key of G major predominates. Six of the pieces use only half notes (minims) and quarter notes (crotchets). The low C, a tricky note for some beginners, has been avoided almost completely. On the one occasion it appears, the note C an octave above is given as optional. Although the pieces are arranged in approximate order of difficulty you can play them in any order you want, depending on the musical needs of the student. Your students are sure to enjoy these pieces, which are both easy on the fingers and easy on the ear! Several pieces have a few measures (bars) rest in the middle not only to give the player a break and add musical contrast but also to give the experience of counting empty bars during the music. When space allows, piano cues appear in the solo part. Some of the later pieces in the book have good performing potential and could be strung together in any order to create a small suite. Every piece has a short piano introduction so that the student can sense the tempo and musical style before playing. The keyboard accompaniments have been kept as simple as possible with the minimum number of notes. Dynamic markings (e.g. piano and mezzo-forte) are used from the start, but phrasing has been omitted from the solo part. This is because the teacher is usually in the best position to suggest phrasing within the physical capabilities of each student. Slurs have been employed sparingly and only when necessary. The music has been converted into pdf files at 1,200 dpi which will produce professional looking printed copies of high quality. However, the output quality will also depend on your own printer settings and capabilities. The publication consists of a teacher's book (18 pages) and a student's book (8 pages) both contained in the same pdf file. Colin Kirkpatrick studied at London’s Royal College of Music. He followed a career in music education. He was a High School Music Director in London for about fifteen years and later became a Music Education Adviser for local government, with responsibility for training teachers and directing the instrumental teaching service. The work in education gave him many opportunities for composing.
