Trumpet Voluntary, (Prince of Denmark's March), for Solo Soprano Saxophone and Piano

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.587595 Composed by Jeremiah Clarke. Arranged by David McKeown. Baroque,Concert,Instructional,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 7 pages. David McKeown #4367450. Published by David McKeown (A0.587595). The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard. This full version is arranged as a Solo for Soprano Saxophone and Piano; the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The single pdf file contains both the score and the solo instrumental part. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both the solo and accompaniment enjoying melodic interest. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with strict time, full tone and dynamics. The short sample here and the full length version on the youtube link are from the Clarinet version of this arrangement. There are many more top quality arrangements and compositions by David McKeown for you to browse at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/david-mckeown/6203

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549256 Composed by Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 15 pages. Jmsgu3 #3473699. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549256). Flight of the Bumblebee from Korsakov's Tale of Tsar Saltan Score: 9 pages, Solo part: 3 pages, Piano accompaniment part: 3 pages. Duration: ca. 1:15 Amaze your listeners with this short but stunning recital encore! Korsakov: Flight of the Bumblebee Flight of the Bumblebee is, to be sure, an orchestral interlude composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov for his opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan. Korsakov, of course, intended to musically portray the chaotic flying pattern of a bumblebee. Nowadays, this piece is one of the comparatively more famous classical works because it frequently appears from time to time in popular culture. In the opera, the piece appears notably at the close of Act III, Tableau 1. This is when the magic Swan-Bird, in fact, changes the Prince (the son of the Tsar) into a bee so he can fly away to visit his father. Interestingly, at this point in the drama, his father, in effect, does not know that he is alive.  Korsakov Background Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844 –1908) was a uniquely famous composer from Russia. He was likewise a member of an infamous assembly of composers called The Five. Korsakov was furthermore an expert in orchestration. His correspondingly most famous orchestral compositions-Capriccio Espagnol, the Russian Easter Festival Overture, and the Scheherazade suite-are important monuments of the standard music repertoire.  Also, comparatively very important are his suites and excerpts from his 15 operas. Korsakov was moreover fond of using Russian folklore and fairy tales in his music, such as Scheherazade. Nationalistic Style Korsakov believed, similarly to fellow outspoken composer Balakirev, in creating a nationalistic, Russia-centric style of classical music. The new style was in fact called Orientalism. It similarly relied on native Russian materials, exotic scales, and experimental harmonic, melodic and rhythmic procedures. This practice, conversely, ran counter to the developments in Western musical culture. Musical Developments Nevertheless, Korsakov developed an appreciation of Western musical techniques after he became a professor of musical composition, harmony, and orchestration at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1871. Moreover, he undertook a rigorous three-year program of self-education and mastered Western methods, incorporating them in conjunction with the influences of Mikhail Glinka and other members of The Five. His techniques of composition and orchestration were additionally enriched by his exposure to the works of Richard Wagner. Naval Service Korsakov combined his music career accordingly with a career in the Russian military. He was in the first place an officer in the Russian Navy. In due time, he was appointed as a civilian Inspector of Naval Bands. As a result, Korsakov expanded his knowledge of woodwind and brass playing, which in turn heightened his capabilities in orchestration. Legacy Korsakov in due time contributed a significant number of Russian nationalist works. He also prepared, from time to time, compositions by The Five for presentation. This brought their works straightaway into the active classical repertoire as well. He also shaped an entire generation of younger composers during his time as a music educator. Therefore, music historians consider Korsakov as the foremost engineer of what the public considers to be the Russian style of composition. He served, all in all, as a transitional figure between The Five and the classically trained composers who became the norm over time. In addition to the Russians, he forthwith influenced non-Russian composers such as Ravel, Debussy, Dukas, and Respighi. Â

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.592559 Composed by Jule Styne. Arranged by David McKeown. Contemporary. Score and part. 6 pages. David McKeown #6366379. Published by David McKeown (A0.592559). It’s Been a Long Long Time is arranged as a solo for one Soprano Saxophone with Piano accompaniment. It’s Been a Long Long Time is best known to modern audiences as the song at the end of The Avengers, Endgame, where Steve Rogers, after seventy years, finally gets his dance with Peggy Carter. The song of course, is much older. Two versions of It’s Been a Long Long Time topped the charts in late 1945, and as US servicemen returned from Europe and the Pacific, it perfectly caught the mood of the times. One version was by Bing Crosby, and the other by the Harry James Orchestra featuring Kitty Kallen on vocals. It is the latter version that is heard in Endgame and the one that forms the basis of this arrangement.Musicians at an intermediate standard will find It’s Been a Long Long Time ideal for formal and informal concert performances. with both solo instrument and piano enjoying plenty of melodic interest. The separate solo part is included with the piano score in the same pdf file. The overall performance time is just over two and a half minutes. Click the link above to listen to a full performance of the clarinet version on YouTube. To keep up with new titles, search for Dave McKeown Sheet Music Downloads on Facebook. There are many more top quality arrangements and compositions by David McKeown for you to browse at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/david-mckeown/6203

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549121 Composed by Camille Saint-Saëns (1835 – 1921). Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 9 pages. Jmsgu3 #3452273. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549121). Saint-Saens: The Swan (Le Cygne) movement 13 from the Carnival of the Animals Suite. Duration: 2:50 Score: 5 pg, 28 ms. Solo part: 1 pg. Piano part: 3 pg. Performance: Level: Early intermediate and up. One of his most popular and widely recognized works, it is the only movement from the Carnival Suite that Saint-Saens permitted to be performed in public during his lifetime. This is an excellent recital encore choice to demonstrate melodic playing and strategic phrasing. The Carnival of the Animals The Carnival of the Animals is an entertaining musical suite of fourteen movements by Camille Saint-Saëns. The work was composed for private performance by an ensemble of two pianos and solo instruments. The Swan (No. 13) is one of the most popular of the fourteen movements. In its entirety, it lasts about 25 minutes. Saint-Saëns Background Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns (1835 – 1921) was, by all means, in particular, a famous French composer, brilliant organist, and significant musical mastermind of the Romantic era. Indeed, his most famous compositions, in the long run, including his Piano Concerto No. 2 (1868), Cello Concerto No. 1 (1872), and the Danse macabre (1874). Notwithstanding, we must also add Violin Concerto No. 3 (1880), Symphony No. 3 (the Organ Symphony, 1886), it must be remembered, Carnival of the Animals (1886) to the list. Childhood It is important to realize that Saint-Saëns was certainly, in fact, a child musical prodigy. Consequently, with this in mind, he made his concert debut albeit at ten years old. Another key point to remember is that he expressly studied at the Paris Conservatoire, then in spite of reality conversely followed a traditional career path as a church organist. Nevertheless, twenty years later, on the other hand, he left to become a successful freelance pianist and composer despite, as has been noted, his former employment situation. Furthermore, his performances were after all markedly in demand - not only in Europe but above all in the Americas all in all as well. Youth A point often overlooked is that in his youth, Saint-Saëns was certainly excited about the modern music of the day. He was in essence fond of the music of his contemporaries, in particular, Schumann, Liszt, and for the most part Wagner. In contrast, however, his own compositions seemed in fact largely confined within the conservative classical tradition. Be that as it may, he was at the same time nevertheless, in fact, a scholar of musical history. Criticism On the whole, his conservatism in fact ultimately brought him into frequent conflict in his later years with composers of the impressionist and in particular the dodecaphonic schools of musical thought.  A point often overlooked is that he included neoclassical elements in his music contrary to some critics. Furthermore, in so doing he provided the most compelling evidence that he predicted the techniques and works by Stravinsky and Les Six. To put it another way, given these points, he was regarded, perhaps for the most part unfairly so, as a non-progressive reactionary henceforth around the time of his passing. Legacy To sum up, Saint-Saëns taught for a short time in Paris, where his students included namely Gabriel Fauré. To clarify, Maurice Ravel later studied with Fauré. In conclusion, both Ravel and Fauré were powerfully influenced by Saint-Saëns, whom they respected as a musical mastermind.

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.587622 Composed by Various. Arranged by David McKeown. Baroque,Concert,Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 24 pages. David McKeown #4594677. Published by David McKeown (A0.587622). The Wedding Album is a collection of four beautiful and timeless wedding favourites, arranged for Solo Soprano Saxophone with Piano accompaniment. Whether for that Special Day, for a recital, or for your own entertainment, these arrangements are ideal for players at an intermediate level or higher. The 24-page file includes the piano accompaniments and the separate solo parts at the end. Ave Maria was written by Franz Schubert in 1825 as the sixth song in his song cycle based on Walter Scott’s poem The Lady of the Lake. It is perhaps the best known of all his melodies, adapted for piano by Franz Liszt, and for orchestra many times since. It is often sung with the Latin lyrics of the Catholic hymn of the same name and has been heard everywhere from the Disney movie Fantasia to the funeral of J.F. Kennedy. The Bridal March was written by Richard Wagner in 1850, scored for orchestra and chorus, and opening the third act of his opera, Lohingren. It is best known in the English-speaking world as Here Comes the Bride. Queen Victoria’s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, and its popularity has endured ever since. Felix Mendelssohn’s Wedding March was originally written in 1842 as incidental music to Shakespeare’s famousplay, Midsummer Night’s Dream. When Queen Victoria’s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, it became instantly popular and has remained a wedding favourite ever since. These four arrangements are also available as single titles for $3.99 each. Published by NoteForge (A0.1094540). I’ve written pieces about daydreaming before—nostalgic, yearning reveries. This isn’t that kind of daydream. This is the sort of overstimulated thinking process with too many ideas and not enough time, jumping from thought to thought, sometimes speeding through motives just to get to the next one, and occasionally taking a breath and restating the theme. It’s a musical distraction, and it has rhythms only a saxophonist could live (my apologies to the accompanist).

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549895 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 23 pages. Jmsgu3 #3603415. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549895). Score: 12 pages, piano part: 6 pages, soprano sax part: 4 pages. duration: ca. 5'. This is the famous wedding march from Op. 61 composed in 1842 and commonly performed as a recessional march at the end of a wedding. The piece was originally composed for orchestra then arranged for organ and performed by Mendelssohn himself. Mendelssohn: Wedding MarchMendelssohn’s Wedding March is so popular that it’s difficult to imagine a wedding without it. It seems like it’s been around for eternity. In any case, it was only 150 years or so ago that the Wedding March came about. It was performed in Potsdam for the first time in 1842, as a piece of Mendelssohn’s music for the Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It was first used for a wedding in 1858Mendelssohn BackgroundFelix Mendelssohn (1809 –1847) was, by all means, a German mastermind composer, musician and orchestra conductor of the Romantic period. Consequently, Mendelssohn composed in the usual forms of the time - symphonies, concertos, oratorios, piano music, and chamber music. To summarize, his most famous works include his music for A Midsummer Night's Dream, the Italian Symphony, the Scottish Symphony, The Hebrides Overture, his later Concerto for Violin & Orchestra, and his Octet for Strings. His most well-known piano pieces, by and large, are the Songs Without Words. Artistic Standing Musical tastes change from time to time. Moreover, just such a change occurred in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This plus rampant antisemitism brought a corresponding amount of undue criticism. Fortunately, however, his artistic inventiveness has indeed been critically re-evaluated. As a result, Mendelssohn is once again among the most prevalent composers of the Romantic era.Early Family LifeMendelssohn was, in fact, born into a prominent Jewish family. His grandfather was, notably, the philosopher Moses Mendelssohn. Felix was, in fact, raised without religion. At the age of seven, he was all of a sudden baptized as a Reformed Christian. He was, moreover, a child musical prodigy. Nevertheless, his parents did not attempt to exploit his talent.Early AdulthoodMendelssohn was, in general, successful in Germany. He conducted, in particular, a revival of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, specifically with his presentation of the St Matthew Passion in 1829. Felix was truly in demand throughout Europe as a composer, conductor, and soloist. For example, he visited Britain ten times. There, he premiered, namely, many of his major works. His taste in music was. To be sure, inventive and well-crafted yet markedly conservative. This conservatism separated him by all means from more audacious musical colleagues like Liszt, Wagner, and Berlioz. Mendelssohn founded the Leipzig Conservatoire which, to clarify, became a defender of this conservative viewpoint.Mature AdulthoodSchumann notably wrote that Mendelssohn was the Mozart of the nineteenth century, the most brilliant musician, the one who most clearly sees through the contradictions of the age and for the first time reconciles them. This observation points to a couple of features in particular that illustrate Mendelssohn's works and his artistic procedure.Musical FeaturesIn the first place, his musical style was fixed in his methodical mastery of the style of preceding masters. This being said, he certainly recognized and even developed early romanticism from the music of Beethoven and Weber. Secondly, it indicates that Mendelssohn sought to strengthen his inherited musical legacy rather than to exchange it with new forms and styles or replace it with exotic orchestration. Consequently, he diverged his contemporaries in the romantic period, such as Wagner, Berlioz, and Liszt. Mendelssohn revered Liszt's virtuosity at the keyboard but found his musi.

David McKeown #4611371. Published by David McKeown (A0.587637). Amazing Grace is perhaps the best-known and best-loved hymn in the world. The writer, John Newton, led a dissolute life as a sailor in the slave trade for many years before marriage, along with a close encounter with death at sea, dramatically changed his perspective. He lived out his later years as a devout and charismatic clergyman in the English countryside, renowned for his direct and personal style. The words he wrote in Amazing Grace are an intimate retelling of his spiritual journey. The hymn was written in 1773, and was sung to many different melodies initially, but since the mid nineteenth century it has become most closely associated with the famous folk tune melody presented here, New Britain. This version is arranged as a solo for Soprano Saxophone with Piano accompaniment. The melody is played four times, each verse in a different style. The thirty second sample recording is from the Alto Saxophone version; if you would like to hear and see the whole arrangement then click the youtube link https://youtu.be/T4h91k9M8mcMusicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, on both sacred and secular occasions. Score and part. 12 pages. Diego Marani #1039315. Published by Diego Marani (A0.1460384). The Impromptus, Op. 90, D. 899, are a set of four impromptus for solo piano composed by Franz Schubert in 1827. They were written in the same year as the Impromptus, Op. 142, though only the first two pieces were published during Schubert's lifetime. Together with the latter set, they have become a cornerstone of the piano repertoire. The third Impromptu (Andante) is an wonderful epitome of slow-moving Schubert melody over a flowing arpeggiated accompaniment. This lyrical and meditative work remains unified in mood and texture throughout. The piece is a classic example of Schubert's penchant for long melodic lines. This easy arrangement for soprano sax (or tenor sax) with piano accompaniment is suitable for classroom, repertoire, recital, wedding or for an emotional encore.

David McKeown #4728541. Published by David McKeown (A0.587653). The Trumpet Tune and Air was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on the trumpet stop. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was attributed to Henry Purcell. But more recently many have questioned whether the composer was in fact Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. What is known is that the piece was written for a semi-opera called The Island Princess, and that both men contributed music to the production. In recent years this piece has become a popular wedding favourite. This full version is arranged as a solo for Soprano Saxophone and Piano and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548675 Composed by Adam. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christian,Christmas. Score and part. 10 pages. Jmsgu3 #3410437. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548675). Duration: 4:56. Score 5 pg. 44 ms. Solo part: 2 pg. Piano part: 3 pg.Cantique de Noël The French composer Adolphe Adam was already famous as a composer of many successful ballets and operas. Then, in the 1840’s he wrote his most famous work - O Holy Night. The original song title was Minuit Chretiens or Cantique de Noël. Placide Cappeau provided the original song lyrics. The song was first performed in Roquemaure by the opera singer Emily Laurey at midnight mass in 1847. It became very popular among the French, much the way that Silent Night was famous elsewhere. In the 1850’s John S. Dwight, a Unitarian minister and music teacher translated the song into English. Adolphe Adam In his younger years, Adam studied organ and composition at the Paris Conservatoire. He also played the timpani in the Conservatoire orchestra. Adam used his savings and borrowed money to open a new opera house - the fourth opera house in Paris in 1847. Unfortunately, the Revolution of 1848 forced him to close. He taught composition at the Paris Conservatoire from 1849 until his death in 1856. Placide Cappeau The poet Cappeau was an advocate of the French Enlightenment philosopher Voltaire. Voltaire was renowned for criticizing the Catholic church, religious intolerance, and dogma in general. Consequently, Cappeau made the Redeemer figure in his song a kind of reformer of injustices, in particular, the problem of original sin. To begin with, people recognized Cappeau’s theology as eccentric, probably even doubtful. Theology In the earlier form of Minuit, the Christ figure descends to intervene with His Father’s plan to punish mankind. Traditional doctrine pronounces that Christ came from love, not to intervene. This version also declares that Christ appeared to expunge the original sin of Adam. Cappeau removed this part from his poem years later, because he just didn’t believe it. He preferred to portray Christ as the reformer of disparity and unfairness. Before long, the writer/politician Alphonse de Lamartine referred to the Minuit as the the Marseillaise of religion. Most French churchmen agreed with this idea but certainly did not consider it a tribute. Register for free lifetime updates and revisions at www.jamesguthrie.com

Piano,Soprano Saxophone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.587704 Composed by Gabriel Faure. Arranged by David McKeown. Christian,Contemporary,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 5 pages. David McKeown #4810591. Published by David McKeown (A0.587704). Pie Jesus is the fifth and central movement of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem. The piece was premiered in Paris in 1888, and underwent several revisions in subsequent years. The Requiem was performed at Fauré’s own funeral in 1924, but it’s only in recent years that this gentle version of the Mass for the Dead has received the international recognition it deserves. Contemporary performances in Parisian churches required the Pie Jesus to be sung by a boy treble, but in the concert hall, Fauré always preferred a soprano voice for the part. This arrangement transcribes the orchestral score as a Solo for Soprano Saxophone with Piano accompaniment. Both the piano score and the solo part are included in the pdf file. The linked youtube performance is the clarinet version of this arrangement.Soloists at an early intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances.
