This selection, Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon, is perhaps the most famous canon ever written and has been one of my favorite compositions to arrange. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon, was originally written in the key of D Major and was scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo which repeats the same harmonic progression throughout the entire piece. The common musical term for this is ostinato or ground bass. Regis Bookshar has now arranged this music for a Clarinet Quintet. Three Clarinets play the melody in canon while the ostinato accompaniment is played by the other two Clarinets. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but could also be performed by professional performers. It is perfect for concerts and church services, especially for Weddings, but could be performed for any occasion. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (30 pages). This version is written in the key of Bb Major, to make it a little easier for some younger performers, but another version is also available in the key of D Major if you would prefer. Other versions of Pachelbel's Canon have also been arranged by Regis Bookshar and are available for a wide variety of instrumental Quintets and Octets, in both the keys of D Major and Bb Major. I think that String players would probably prefer to play the versions in the key of D Major while the Brass and Woodwind musicians might prefer to play the Bb Major versions. Clarinet Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download. This selection, Carol of the Bells, also known as Ring, Christmas Bells, is suitable for high school and college students and is perfect for Christmas concerts and church services. Carol of the Bells' was written by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych in 1914 with lyrics by Peter J. Wilhousky. The song is based on the Ukrainian folk chant Shchedryk, a New Year's song, known in English as The Little Swallow, and utilizes a four-note ostinato which brings to mind the ringing of bells. Originally intended to be sung a capella by a mixed four-part choir it has since been recorded into over 150 versions and re-arrangements for various vocal and instrumental compositions. One version, Ring, Christmas Bells, an English-language variant with Nativity-based lyrics, was written by Minna Louise Hohman in 1947. Regis Bookshar has now arranged the music for a Clarinet Quintet. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (16 pages). In addition to this version for 5 Clarinets, many other arrangements of this selection are also available for a variety of instrumental ensembles, including Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets, as well as numerous other selections in a wide variety of styles. Clarinet Septet - Intermediate - Digital Download. This selection, Carol of the Bells, also known as Ring, Christmas Bells, is suitable for high school and college students and is perfect for Christmas concerts and church services. Carol of the Bells' was written by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych in 1914 with lyrics by Peter J. Wilhousky. The song is based on the Ukrainian folk chant Shchedryk, a New Year's song, known in English as The Little Swallow, and utilizes a four-note ostinato which brings to mind the ringing of bells. Originally intended to be sung a capella by a mixed four-part choir it has since been recorded into over 150 versions and re-arrangements for various vocal and instrumental compositions. One version, Ring, Christmas Bells, an English-language variant with Nativity-based lyrics, was written by Minna Louise Hohman in 1947. Regis Bookshar has now arranged the music for a Clarinet Septet. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (19 pages). In addition to this version for 7 Clarinets, many other arrangements of this selection are also available for a variety of instrumental ensembles, including Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets, as well as numerous other selections in a wide variety of styles. It is a descriptive exciting piece, and the intention was to make it mysterious in style with a film-like storyline flowing through it. It has a calm intro going into a heavily syncopated driving 4 as the main theme punctuated by a heavy accented ostinato figure to add tension. The middle section is calmer and more relaxed where elements of the 1st theme appear in fragmented form. The intro returns once again before returning to the main theme which has slight modifications-extra accents etc, and the piece ends with the recurring stabs heard earlier before flourishing out. The ranges of the Clarinets are between one and a half octaves and 2 octaves depending on the part. Set at intermediate level but the full score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability. Ideal as a showpiece, contest/festival, concert etc or an additional piece for the repertoire. Price is for the full score and set of parts. 4 Mins 35 in length.
