Published by JB Linear (A0.581881). Klarifications for Clarinet Choir is a three movement piece for a large clarinet choir. It is set for Eb Soprano (one player), Bb clarinet 1-2-3, 2 alto clarinets, 2 bass clarinets, and Bb Contra. This would be best in a clarinet choir with at least two on a part in the Bb clarinet section. Here is what Margaret Thornhill wrote about this piece in The Clarinet magazine, June 2017: The dramatic first movement is a dialogue between an eefer (Eb clarinet) and the rest of the ensemble, incorporating paraphrases of excepts from Bach to Bizet. It is followed by a surprising second movement chorale with slap tongue, flutter tongue and finger popping intended to be individually miked. The final movement is an exciting montuno, including a section where each person can choose which riffs to play.The 1st movement, Canons Firing From an Ever Rising Staircase, Or, Heed the Effer's Frantic Calls To explain the title just a bit, the ever rising staircase is an aural trick that, if done precisely, sounds like the music keeps rising without really doing so. This was derived from what is called a Shepard's Tone. The canons firing are not cannons! The bass instruments play small sections of actual canons (like fancy rounds) written by J S Bach, Mozart, and others. Each time the solo Eb clarinet (the Effer) announces the coming canon firing in a frantic sort of way. The 2nd movement (Close Encounters with Basses) makes use of a number of unusual sounds on clarinet (or parts thereof) along with a few extended techniques that are fairly easy to play with the clear instructions provided. The altos, basses, and contra should be closely miked to be heard.The 3rd movement (Sometimes Free - A Montuno) starts off with a rich beat in the basses and gradually joined with the rest of the clarinets. In the montuno section there are 4 bar phrases each player can choose from to play during the 32 bars. They may choose what they will, either playing a different variation each time, using the same one each time, or choosing to not play for a particular 4 bar section. This is not a free improvisation, however! This is definitely for an advanced group of players. The 1st movement is also available separately. The sample recording uses Finale software in the 1st and 3rd movement, and John Gibson's recording of the 2nd movement.

Published by JB Linear (A0.1086812). A montuno is a type of vamp found in Latin music, particularly Cuban music. A vamp is a repeating figure, often an accompaniment. It is same musical type as a riff in rock music or a loop. This montuno for clarinets is a deep dive into the rhythm, the simple chord sequence, and sometimes complex combinations all within a series of 4 bar phrases. The rhythm is the 2/3 clave pattern heard in the percussion part. In case someone in the group is so inclined to provide a solo melody, chords are provided. As delightful as that would be, the variety already written in the montuno is sufficient. Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a Clarinet Quintet, consisting of 5 Bb Clarinets and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. This arrangement will provide students with the opportunity to practice breath control because of its long, sustained phrases, and also to give them the chance to play this beautiful composition, something which they may not have had the opportunity to do, otherwise. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this arrangement. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (25 pages). The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble has performed the Trumpet Quintet version of the Recordare for funerals, providing beautiful, introspective music for the occasion. There is some controversy surrounding the circumstances of the Requiem's composition because Mozart died before he could complete it. Count Franz von Walsegg had commissioned a Requiem Mass but Mozart had received only half of the payment in advance. So, upon his death on December 5th, 1791, his widow, Constanze, wished to have the work completed secretly by someone else and submit it to the count as having been completed by Mozart to collect the final payment. Joseph von Eybler was one of the first composers to be asked to complete the score and had worked on a number of movements but felt unable to complete the remainder and gave the manuscript back to Constanze Mozart. The task was then given to another composer, Franz Xaver Sussmayr. Sussmayr borrowed some of Eybler's work in making his completion, added his own orchestration to other movements and added several new movements which a Requiem Mass would normally comprise. He then added a final section by adapting the opening two movements which Mozart had written to the different words which finish the Requiem Mass, which according to both Sussmayr and Mozart's wife, was done according to Mozart's directions. The completed score, initially by Mozart but largely finished by Sussmayr, was then dispatched to Count Walsegg complete with a counterfeited signature of Mozart dated 1792. Despite the controversy over how much of the music is actually Mozart's, the commonly performed Sussmayr version has become widely accepted by the public, and is considered one of Mozart's finest compositions. The Recordare is considered by many people to be one of the most beautiful compositions in Mozart's entire catalogue. Regis Bookshar, a trumpet player, has performed the Requiem in concert with a full orchestra, soloists and a chorus and felt that other musicians should have the opportunity to play the hauntingly beautiful Recordare as well. So, in addition to this arrangement for a Clarinet Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this beautiful composition. There are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may fine something else which may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. Recordare (from Requiem (K. 626) - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart/Franz Xaver Sussmayr - Clarinet Septet - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a Clarinet Septet, consisting of 7 Bb Clarinets, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. This arrangement will provide students with the opportunity to practice breath control because of its long, sustained phrases, and also to give them the chance to play this beautiful composition, something which they may not have had the opportunity to do, otherwise. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this arrangement. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (40 pages). The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble has performed the Trumpet Quintet version of the Recordare for funerals, providing beautiful, introspective music for the occasion. There is some controversy surrounding the circumstances of the Requiem's composition because Mozart died before he could complete it. Count Franz von Walsegg had commissioned a Requiem Mass but Mozart had received only half of the payment in advance. So, upon his death on December 5th, 1791, his widow, Constanze, wished to have the work completed secretly by someone else and submit it to the count as having been completed by Mozart to collect the final payment. Joseph von Eybler was one of the first composers to be asked to complete the score and had worked on a number of movements but felt unable to complete the remainder and gave the manuscript back to Constanze Mozart. The task was then given to another composer, Franz Xaver Sussmayr. Sussmayr borrowed some of Eybler's work in making his completion, added his own orchestration to other movements and added several new movements which a Requiem Mass would normally comprise. He then added a final section by adapting the opening two movements which Mozart had written to the different words which finish the Requiem Mass, which according to both Sussmayr and Mozart's wife, was done according to Mozart's directions. The completed score, initially by Mozart but largely finished by Sussmayr, was then dispatched to Count Walsegg complete with a counterfeited signature of Mozart dated 1792. Despite the controversy over how much of the music is actually Mozart's, the commonly performed Sussmayr version has become widely accepted by the public, and is considered one of Mozart's finest compositions. The Recordare is considered by many people to be one of the most beautiful compositions in Mozart's entire catalogue. Regis Bookshar, a trumpet player, has performed the Requiem in concert with a full orchestra, soloists and a chorus and felt that other musicians should have the opportunity to play the hauntingly beautiful Recordare as well. So, in addition to this arrangement for a Clarinet Septet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this beautiful composition. There are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may fine something else which may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. Born in 1839, he was playing the organ in his local church in Vaduz, Liechtenstein at the age of 7.  He spent his life as a piano teacher, conductor, and prolific composer. This arrangement of Kyrie and Agnus Dei originated from one of the 8 Masses Rheinberger wrote in around 1878 for double choir. These are powerful and emotional pieces full of rich, extended chords and beautiful moving phrases.  They are meant to be played with a lot of rubato. Scored 6 Bb and 2 bass clarinets.  Bb contrabasses can double the bass parts.Duration: 7 minutes.
