Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.891194 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Laurie Betts Hughes. A Cappella,Contemporary,Folk,Traditional. Octavo. 6 pages. Dandelion Music Press #3103603. Published by Dandelion Music Press (A0.891194). Movement two of four Cowboy Songs of the American SouthwestThis fun-to sing TTBB a cappella concert arrangement set of regional folksongs are evocative of barbershop, concert, and a cappella styles and utilize some fun extended techniques in the second movement. Also appropriate for a versatile barbershop or men's quartet, upper HS level or above. These four cowboy songs that make up the song cycle Cowboy Songs of the American Southwest are among the nearly 3,000 field recordings recorded in the U.S. Southwest, Mexico and Spain collected by John Donald Robb over 40 year while at the University of New Mexico. These recordings preserve many of the musical traditions of these areas, especially New Mexico and Southern Colorado, and include Native American, Hispano, Mexican and African American music, as well as railroad and cowboy songs, fiddle music and the music of festivals and fiestas.I. The Call of the Range- Evocative of a carefree, lone cowboy singing while strumming his ukulele. Barbershop harmonies, similar to ukulele harmonies, suggest a personification of both the ukulele and the rangeland itself as a character in the unfolding drama of the seemingly solitary cowboy.II. I'm Sad and I'm Lonely- Whispered syllables and whistles evoke percussion and a bowed saw in this despondent tale of unrequited love and solitude.III. Wild Horse of the Desert- The melody fights with the downbeat to mimic the wild horse fighting against land rights and fencing.IV. When Cockle Shells Turn Silver Bells- An overly carefree, lighthearted shrug at lost love to embrace the lone cowboy lifestyle.Due to current restrictions of the John Donald Robb field recordings housed at the University of New Mexico, movements I. The Call of the Range and III. Wild Horse of the Desert are offered with permission and without charge with the purchase of public domain arrangements of II. I'm Sad and I'm Lonely and IV. When Cockle Shells Turn Silver Bells forming an entire song cycle. Movements II. and IV. are also available for purchase individually.2017 Choral Contest EntryLaurie Betts Hughes, ASCAP | www.LaurieBettsHughes.com

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1270160 By Arlo Guthrie. By Arlo Guthrie. Arranged by Craig Hanson. A Cappella,Comedy,Folk. Octavo. 6 pages. Edition Craig Hanson #862589. Published by Edition Craig Hanson (A0.1270160). For TTBB chorus a cappella and solo voice. As performed by Arlo Guthrie.Wanna hear something? You know that Indians never ate clams. They didn't have linguini! And so what happened was that clams was allowed to grow unmolested in the coastal waters of America for millions of years. And they got big, and I ain't talking about clams in general, I'm talking about each clam! Individually. I mean each one was a couple of million years old or older. So imagine they could have got bigger than this whole room. And when they get that big, God gives them little feet so that they could walk around easier. And when they get feet, they get dangerous. I'm talking about real dangerous. I ain't talking about sitting under the water waiting for you. I'm talking about coming after you.Imagine being on one of them boats coming over to discover America, like Columbus or something, standing there at night on watch, everyone else is either drunk or asleep. And you're watching for America and the boat's going up and down. And you don't like it anyhow but you gotta stand there and watch, for what? Only he knows, and he ain't watching. You hear the waves lapping against the side of the ship. The moon is going behind the clouds. You hear the pitter patter of little footprints on deck. ‘Is that you kids?’ It ain't! My god! It's this humongous, giant clam!Imagine those little feet coming on deck. A clam twice the size of the ship. Feet first. You're standing there shivering with fear, you grab one of these. This is a belaying pin. They used to have these stuck in the holes all around the ship… You probably didn't know what this is for; you probably had an idea, but you were wrong. They used to have these stuck in the holes all along the sides of the ship, everywhere. You wouldn't know what this is for unless you was that guy that night.I mean, you'd grab this out of the hole, run on over there, bam bam on them little feet! Back into the ocean would go a hurt, but not defeated, humongous, giant clam. Ready to strike again when opportunity was better. You know not even the coastal villages was safe from them big clams. You know them big clams had an inland range of about 15 miles. Think of that. I mean our early pioneers and the settlers built little houses all up and down the coast you know. A little inland and stuff like that and they didn't have houses like we got now, with bathrooms and stuff. They built little privies out back. And late at night, maybe a kid would have to go, and he'd go stomping out there in the moonlight. And all they'd hear for miles around...(loud clap/belch).... One less kid for America. One more smiling, smurking, humongous, giant clam.So Americans built forts. Them forts --you know—them pictures of them forts with the wooden points all around. You probably thought them points was for Indians but that's stupid! 'Cause Indians know about doors. But clams didn't. Even if a clam knew about a door, so what? A clam couldn't fit in a door. I mean, he'd come stomping up to a fort at night, put them feet on them points, jump back crying, tears coming out of them everywhere. But Americans couldn't live in forts forever. You couldn't just build one big fort around America. How would you go to the beach? So what they did was they formed groups of people. I mean they had groups of people all up and down the coast form these little alliances. Like up North it was call the Clamshell Alliance. And farther down South it was called the Catfish Alliance. They had these Alliances all up and down the coast defending themselves against these threatening monsters. These humongous giant clams. Andt hey'd go out there, if there was maybe fifteen of them they'd be singing songs in fifteen part harmony. And when one part disappeared, that's how they knew where the clam would be.Which is why Americans only sing in four part harmony to this very day. That proved to be too dangerous. See, what they did was they'd be singing these songs called Clam Chanties, and they'd have these big spears called clampoons. And they'd be walking up and down the beach and the method they eventually devised where they'd have this guy, the most strongest heavy duty true blue American, courageous type dude they could find and they'd have him out there walking up and down the beach by himself with other chicken dudes hiding behind the sand dunes somewhere. He'd be singing the verses. They'd be singing the chorus, and clams would hear 'em. And clams hate music. So clams would come out of the water and they'd come after this one guy. And all you'd see pretty soon was flying all over the sand flying up and down the beach manmanclamclammanmanclam manclamclamman up and down the beach going this way and that way up the hills in the water out of the water behind the trees everywhere. Finally the man would jump over a big sand dune, roll over the side, the clam would come over the dune, fall in the hole and fourteen guys would come out there and stab the shit out of him with their clampoons. That's the way it was. That was one way to deal with them. The other way was to weld two clams together. [I don't believe it. I'm losing it. Hey. What can you do. Another night shot to hell.] Hey, this was serious back then. This was very serious. I mean these songs now are just piddly folk songs. But back then these songs were controversial. These was radical, almost revolutionary songs. Because times was different and clams was a threat to America. That's right. So we want to sing this song tonight about the one last... You see what they did was there was one man, he was one of these men, his name will always be remembered, his name was Reuben Clamzo, and he was one of the last great clam men there ever was. He stuck the last clam stab. The last clampoon into the last clam that was ever seen on this continent. Knowing he would be out of work in an hour. He did it anyway so that you and me could go to the beach in relative safety. That's right. Made America safe for the likes of you and me. And so we sing this song in his memory. He went into whaling like most of them guys did and he got out of that, when he died. You know, clams was much more dangerous than whales. Clams can run in the water, on the water or on the ground, and they are so big sometimes that they can jump and they can spread their kinda shells and kinda almost fly like one of them flying squirrels. You could be standing there thinking that your perfectly safe and all of a sudden whop.... That's true... And so this is the song of this guy by the name of Reuben Clamzo and the song takes place right after he stabbed this clam and the clam was, going through this kinda death dance over on the side somewhere. The song starts there and he goes into whaling and takes you through the next...I sing the part of the guy on the beach by himself. I go like this: Poor old Reuben Clamzo and you go Clamzo Boys Clamzo. That's the part of the fourteen chicken dudes over on the other side. That's what they used to sing. They'd be calling these clams out of the water. Like taunting them making fun of them. Clams would get real mad and come out. Here we go. I want you to sing it in case you ever have an occasion to join such an alliance. You know some of these alliances are still around. Still defending America against things like them clams. If you ever wants to join one, now you have some historic background. So you know where these guys are coming from. It's not just some 60's movement or something, these things go back a long time.Notice the distinction you're going to have to make now between the first and easy Clamzo Boys Clamzo and the more complicated Clamzo Me Boys Clamzo. Stay serious! Folk songs are serious. That's what Pete Seeger told me. Arlo I only want to tell you one thing... Folk songs are serious. I said right. Let's do it in C for Clam...Iet's do it in B... For boy that's a big clam... Iet' s do it in G for Gee, I hope that big clam don't see me. Let's do it in F... For …he sees me. Let's do it back in A...for a clam is coming. Better get this song done quick. The Story of Reuben Clamzo and His Strange Daughter in the Key of A.

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.891193 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Laurie Betts Hughes. A Cappella,Contemporary,Folk,Traditional. Octavo. 24 pages. Dandelion Music Press #3103597. Published by Dandelion Music Press (A0.891193). This fun-to sing TTBB a cappella concert arrangement set of regional folksongs are evocative of barbershop, concert, and a cappella styles and utilize some fun extended techniques in the second movement. Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1050201 Composed by Alan Bullard. 20th Century,Classical. Octavo. 31 pages. Colne Edition / BullardMusic #654578. Published by Colne Edition / BullardMusic (A0.1050201). These three dramatic but humorous episodes in the life of the great king, to texts by Thackeray and the composer, tell us first of all how the elderly King Canute was tiring of life as, no longer young, he even yawned while his favourite male voice choir was performing. The second movement tells of all the victories he had won - but, as the third movement tells us, there was one thing left to do - conquer the sea!  Sadly, however, the sea disobeyed his commands, and 'King Canute is dead and gone, but the legend still lives on'. The story is untrue, of course, but if it happened, though it probably didn't, it would have been in the vicinity of the Battle of Ashingdon, near to the town of South Woodham Ferrers, Essex, UK - where the songs were first performed by the South Woodham Ferrers Male Voice Choir. A specimen copy of the songs is available at www.alanbullard.co.uk Alan Bullard’s choral works are performed worldwide, and many have been recorded and broadcast. He has a growing reputation for music that choirs enjoy performing, and which speaks directly to audiences. The Colne Choral Series contains a range of Bullard’s pieces for adult and youth choirs of all types, including cantatas and choral suites as well as individual movements. Choral Choir,Choral (TTBB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1382609 Composed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Arranged by Mark R Lewis. A Cappella,Classical,Instructional,Standards,Traditional. 16 pages. Mark R Lewis #967034. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1382609). Pyotr Tchaikovsky was a late 19th century Russian composer who is well known for both his symphonic works and ballets. The Arabian Dance is one of the movements from his Nutcracker Ballet, often separated into an orchestral suite featuring some of the individual dance pieces from the ballet. This arrangement is for TTBBB ensemble, with two tenor parts, one baritone part, and two distinct bass parts. The primary melody lines through the piece are carried in the tenor parts but do occasionally visit the lower voices with the baritone line switching between melody harmony and bass line parts frequently throughout. The two bass lines alternate with carrying a continuous eighth-note line and drone-like notes. The tenor 1 part does push the upper ranges sometimes but the other parts stick to fairly typical ranges. Overall, the piece should be performable by most intermediate groups. There is also a tambourine part for added interest.

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.882468 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Matthijs van der Moolen. Christian,Classical,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Octavo. 7 pages. Matthijs van der Moolen #566713. Published by Matthijs van der Moolen (A0.882468). The version of Beethoven's 'Drei Equale' for male choir was added to the original's first and the last movement by Ignaz Seyfried, a friend of Beethoven. The second movement was performed on a later moment, but the link between the instrumental version (with text by Frans Grillparzer) was not made. I have taken the freedom to put these two together in this score, and transposed it one major second down to make it fit smoothly in between the other two movements. The first and last movement also contained a text in Latin, but since the second movement was only available in German, I also used the German texts for the other movements.

Published by Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital (BJ.1123). 8.27 x 11.7 inches.Sven Hagvil's Symphony of Solitarities is a choral symphony in three movements (This oceanic feeling, Lonelinesses, Solitude) for mixed choir and soprano saxophone (or clarinet). The piece, which is around 30 minutes, is composed for S:t Johannes Chamber Choir in Stockholm, conducted by Karin Oldgren. At the first performance Anders Paulsson, world renown saxophonist to whom the symphony is dedicated, was soloist on soprano saxophone. The lyrics, written by the composer, are dealing with man's existential loneliness, a loneliness that we paradoxically share with all other people. In the second movement some choreographic elements are added, as well as solo parts for the choristers. The instrumentalist is expected to improvise parts of the music. The last movement, Solitude, is available as an off-print for SSAA and TTBB.

Published by Jim Bosse (A0.954968). Suite Grandkids contains six pieces originally scored for classical guitar trio, one for each of the grandkids that I had at that time (2005). I decided to write lyrics for each movement, creating a version for voice (male and/or female) and classical guitar, then expanding it to this version for SATB Choir with classical guitar and percussion. The percussion parts are easy and meant to be performed by members of the choir. The picture of my grandkids looks like a poster for cultural diversity. Their varied genetic backgrounds presented an opportunity to compose an eclectic suite with each piece presenting a style representative of their unique genetic heritage. Performance time for the entire suite is 23 minutes but each piece could stand alone on a concert program. This download is the score for the third movement, Toy for Timothy. Performance time is 3 minutes and 31 seconds. Demand level is mostly intermediate with a few advanced sections. Jim's web site is www.facebook.com/jimbosseguitar.

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1264702 Composed by Giuseppe Rastelli, Gorni Kramer, and Mario Panzeri. Arranged by Bacco Baccanels. 20th Century,A Cappella,Jazz. Octavo. 6 pages. Bacco Baccanels #857536. Published by Bacco Baccanels (A0.1264702). TTBB Version of the great song by Gorni Kramer. The arrangement is quite basic and is not barbershop like: there is one voice for the main melody (Tenor1) and three voices emulating the armonic infrastructure.(I made also a richer SAATTB version with additional staffs taken from a Pasquale Amico vocal arrangement).TTBB voices follow a simple arrangement: Soprano does the main melody and Tenor, Baritone and Bass do accompaniment: an easy bass line and two voices for the chords.Baritone and Bass often play upbeat in the first bars of most of the phrases (pretending to be guitars or trumpets) and turn to straight beat in the final measures.Tempo is fast, thus singing those upbeat at the right speed can be challenging: bear in mind slowing them down produces a global weakening of the entire song: I suggest Tenor2 and Baritone drink some coffee before singing...To add movement to an otherwise great and funny but simple structure, I added few bars to the original work, starting from bar 79 (F mark); here, pay attention to sing in sync, since the section is very rhythmic. Some background information about the song: written in 1939 under the fascist regime, Kramer was accused of making fun of the fascist hierarch Achille Starace, who used to walk upright in a black shirt, arousing the hilarity of the population. The song thus had to face the censorship of the regime, given that the allusion appeared quite clear. Many years after the composition, Gorni Kramer declared that the piece was inspired not by Starace but by the maestro Pippo Barzizza, with whom, in 1939, Kramer had had an argument during a performance at the Kursaal in Viareggio.

Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.955825). African-American writer and civil rights activist James Weldon Johnson is perhaps best known as the author of Lift Every Voice and Sing, written on the occasion of Lincoln’s birthday and now known as the Black national anthem.  He established himself as a writer during the Harlem Renaissance (the African-American cultural movement in New York City in the 1920’s) for his poems, novels and anthologies. This poem Sence You Went Away creates the narrative of one who bemoans the loss of a loved one.  His bluesy poem features a southern dialect style.  It is written for 4-part male ensemble (TTBB) and is performed a capella. Performance time:2:00+  It is an apt introduction to Johnson’s work and most befitting for study during Black History month.

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.865879 Composed by Leroy Brathwaite. Arranged by Charles Beale. Contemporary. Octavo. 24 pages. Charliebmusic #5313675. Published by charliebmusic (A0.865879). ‘Togetherness’ is a Soca Carnival hit from the 2007 Trinidad carnival, and was sung originally by Alison Hinds on her ‘Soca Queen’ album, with music and lyrics by Leroy Brathwaite, who happens to be Rhianna’s uncle.Suitable for Pride, a Holiday celebration or any show about community, the song contains powerful lyrics about unity, community and togetherness, as well as mentions of stopping the fighting and gun violence. The half time reggae in the middle 8 leads to a defiant unison section where the entire ensemble declares ‘They can’t be believe that we love one another’. This leads to a final explosion of joy. Especially infectious, this tune demands audience participation and choir movement of some kind. The song itself is relatively repetitive and builds in energy with every return of the main chorus. It is vocally demanding and high energy throughout, demanding some vocal stamina and knowledge of Trinidad pronunciation. It could also be an opportunity to learn about the history and practice of carnival across the world, both as celebration of individuality and also as fighting oppression.

Initially published in 1953, the lyrics deal with a burning subject, and it is shaped musically by employing the choirs' positions and movements in relation to the natural acoustics of the room. The work was commissioned by the Naas Choral Festival in 2017, where it was premiered by local choirs conducted by Gunno Palmquist. A Swedish version, Flykten valde oss, is also available. Published by Nicholas Brock Weininger (A0.1417490). Cantata in ten movements, for TTBB chorus, chamber orchestra, and soloists, written in memory of the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic. Premiered by the Empire City Men's Chorus in March 2023 in New York, released on Navona Records in December 2023, this work was recently named a finalist for the 2024 American Prize. Gramophone called it poignant and powerful and said that Weininger skilfully weaves together texts from the Tanakh, eloquently sung in Hebrew by the chorus and presented in Robert Alter’s powerful English translations by the three soloists. The cantata unfolds as a tapestry of colours and profound mourning, with occasional echoes of an ancient musical language, wherein the orchestra plays a virtuosic role. This is the choral score with parts for singers and soloists and a piano reduction for rehearsal. A full conductor score is available separately, and orchestra parts are available from the composer on request.

A work by Alessandro Palazzani #982575. Published by A work by Alessandro Palazzani (A0.1399301). AMORI (Loves): Eight madrigals on texts by Giovan Battista Marinofor four-part male choirCONTENTS:1. OCCHI (Eyes)2. ERRORI DI BELLA CHIOMA (Beautiful hair wanderings)3. BELTA’ CRUDELE (Cruel Beauty)4. BELLA CANTATRICE (Beautiful Singer)5. AMOR SECRETO (Secret Love)6. PENDENTI IN FORMA DI SERPI (Pendants in the Shape of Snakes)7. LONTANANZA CONSOLATA (Consoled Distance)8. OCCHI (Eyes)The collection comprises eight Madrigals that alternate between different musical styles. In odd numbers, there are more meditative pieces that closely follow the text, faithfully illustrating its keywords; instead, in even numbers, there is a more regular treatment of musical form, with bipartite or tripartite structures and thematic returns of the music, organized into livelier and more rhythmic movements. To give unity to the composition, the author adopted a series of chordal motifs that serve as leitmotifs, formed by two or three chords symbolizing some basic concepts that cyclically reappear in the various pieces (love, life, death, etc.).The ensemble comprises four parts: first tenor, second tenor, baritone, bass, which can be performed by soloists or by a choral group. In the piece Bella Cantatrice, it is possible to entrust the main melody to a tenor soloist. Although a reduction for piano is printed in the score, its purpose is only to support the voices during rehearsal. Public performance is intended for a cappella voices.

Choreography, solos, costumes, or dramatic acting all come to mind when thinking about programming this piece. A catchy melody and mostly unison singing, this piece would be great for any high school men's choir. There are many opportunities to teach musical concepts, theory, and practice. Lock those 3 and 4 part chords, teach how important diction is because of the fast moving text, or let them be creative in coming up with movements that match the music.
