Solo Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1139670 Composed by Brian Streckfus. Instructional,Jazz,Singer/Songwriter. Individual part. 12 pages. Brian Streckfus #739941. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1139670). This is a 12-page PDF showing 7 guitar chords on each page. Rather than selling each PDF seperately (which is a bit overpriced and too much of a hassle), I decided to combine them and offer a great deal! Learn how to compose chord progressions like a pro while having fun and playing! Objective:Teach yourself the seven chords that belong to each type of scale. Rather than bombard you with a thousand guitar chords (which is easy to happen when browsing the internet or playing random songs), I'd rather show how a select few chords are working well together in common contexts. The hope is that you would then be able to see this happening in all 12 keys. What Scales/Modes are being harmonized? C Major (+jazz version) A (natural) minor (+jazz version) A harmonic minor (+jazz version) B Locrian D Dorian E Phyrigian F Lydian G Mixolydian Features: Slowly increases in physical and theoritcal difficulty at the same time. Many music theory books seem abstract and impractical whereas these chord charts show music theory applied to guitar. These chord progressions are a great composition aid. Guitar chord diagrams Traditional notation with letter names on the note heads Roman numerals color coded Modes included. The Beatles and jazz musicians use modal chord progressions to give their music uniqueness. It's almost as if one note is wrong intentionally. Practicality and flow on guitar is emphasized more then music theory conciseness. Letter names are not in a perfect order (as that is sometimes impossible for the guitar to do). Sometimes a more complex chord is opted for because it's actually easier to play physically. Tips: Order = Blue, Yellow, Red, Blue for stereotypical classical style chord progressions. Rock and blues often do more of a chord succession; red going to yellow happens often, even though it is breaking a rule. The professional names for blue, yellow, red: tonic, predominant, dominant respectively. I did not invent this theoretical concept, but I am probably one of the few musician's to color code the categories regularly. The colors explain the situation elegantly; the professional words seem like abstract PhD education, whereas saying blue is relaxing and red is uncomfortable is something a child can understand quickly. One fantastic tip I hardly hear anyone say: it doesn't so much matter that you play the same chord as the other musician in your ensemble (unless you are getting paid to do exactly that). It matters more that you simply play the same color as them. You will have a deeper understanding of how music works if you think like this, and mistakes will no longer be seen as mistakes. What happens when a C Major and A minor chord are played at the same time? Hardly anything! It's just a Am7! Big whoop! It isn't a horrendous sounding mistake. Circle a key on the circle of fifths. Now circle the two keys next to it (-1b, +1#). This leads to six chords that belong diatonically to the first key you circled! Memorizing these will allow you to better predict what composers are about to do, especially if you know ahead of time that the song does not change key. Get away from the echo chamber of common are arugably bad cowboy chords and be able to build your own.

Guitar - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1149151 By (Various artists). By Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Arranged by Derek Hasted. 19th Century,Classical. 25 pages. Derek Hasted #749280. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1149151). MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS - EASY GUITAR QUARTETFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar. Derek Hasted writes This charming little piece makes a great concert item for a quartet or large ensemble with modest experience - it’s perfect for a school ensemble’s first concert! It’s playable entirely in the first position, and with the exception of an occasional 3rd string G#, works well in the second position. A more experienced quartet might like to take the higher notes further up the neck for a more rounded sound. There are two arrangements here...One is in traditional SATB style - the four lines playing at four different pitches. The second rotates the parts at every phrase boundary so that everyone plays the tune at some point - the line currently holding the tune has a slightly louder dynamic marking. I hope you enjoy these arrangements!

An excellent arrangement of famous Prelude In A Major by Frederic Chopin for Guitar with Background Track-Jazz/Pop Version. The composition is easy to read, fun to play and sound professional when performed. Arranged by Fishel Pustilnik, very well known as Composer/Publisher. His books Jazz & Pop Piano Paradise (Volumes 1-5) have become a commercial success and a hit with music teachers and students in Canada. (Thousands books already sold in Canada). They are also starting to enter the US, Brazil, Norway, Russia, Holland, Israel, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Greece, Latvia and UK markets. This is a wonderful new publication. These pieces offer much appeal for the young pianist and excellent choice for a supplementary book for students from Grade 3 to 8. Lore Ruschiensky, Editor, (from review in The Canadian Music Teacher) Yesterday I spent at least two pleasure filled hours playing through your imaginatively inventive compositions. Congratulations! I trust students will decide to program your well crafted and entertaining works on recitals and examinations. Review from Dr. Jack Behrens, B.Sc. (Julliard), PH.D (Harvard), Director of Academic Studies, The Glenn Gould School I liked this book the best so far. Great work! You have a gift for melody and your arrangements are very playable. Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1283320 By ABBA. By Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. Arranged by Derek Hasted. 20th Century,Pop. 28 pages. Derek Hasted #874514. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1283320). THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL - Great concert piece for 4 GUITARS or larger ensemblePrimarily for Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar only.Derek Hasted writes This is a concert crowd-pleaser perfect for intermediate or advanced intermediate guitarists! One reason ABBA songs are so memorable isn’t the strong melody line, it’s all the other clever harmonies and countermelodies that lurk just under the surface to make a crafted masterpiece. My arrangement uses guitar-friendly shapes to capture the whole song and many of the countermelodies that make the original such a great listen. The dynamics on the score tie in with the orchestration, so that the quiet sections are slow-moving and the louder sections are busy, adding yet more notes before the previous ones fade away. I’ve added just a little fingering here and there if there’s really only one place on the neck to play what’s on the page. Elsewhere, please choose the sweet spot that gives you, the player, the best mix of tone, sustain, playability and confidence.I hope you enjoy performing this as much as the audience will enjoy hearing it!This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Derek's website at www.derek-hasted.co.uk/smp lists all his arrangements by title and by number of instruments, with links to soundclips and sample score.

Guitar - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1319904 By DaCapo Primary Music. By Fred Plowright and Jane Cutler. Children,Classical,Contemporary,Folk,Instructional. Educational Method. 131 pages. DaCapo Primary Music #908466. Published by DaCapo Primary Music (A0.1319904). Welcome to The Singing Guitar which is one of the Singing Instrumentalist series of books written for beginners of all instruments. The book gives a selection of entertaining repertoire and a thorough and complete musical experience from the very beginning. It is presented in four sections, each designed to introduce a particular aspect of music making, whilst taking on board instrumental skills. We invite teachers to use The Singing Guitar as they see fit, mixing and matching sections and songs to give a balanced and enjoyable combination of singing, playing an accompaniment, playing the melody, rhythm work, composition and playing duets. The book enables pupils, teachers and parents to make a successful start with the chosen instrument. When the book has been completed, The Singing Guitarist will have developed a clear understanding of the function of notation, an ear that can hear tuning and two parts and also be able to enjoy more dissonance as well as pure harmony. The Singing Guitarist should be well on the way to becoming a ‘Complete Instrumentalist’, which is, coincidentally, the name of the book that follows this one!Jane Cutler Director of DaCapo MusicYou can find more DaCapo pieces for young instrumentalists at DaCapo Music Shop

There is not enough good marching / toe tapping patriotic music for guitar solo that is easier to play... what is out there is often too difficult. I arranged this for a 50 year high school reunion. This arrangement is of intermediate difficulty and can be played at 120 to 130 and still sound fine... March tempo is probably 140 to 150 per quarter note. Appropriate for picnics, the parlor, the patriotic, or parishioners in church especially for Memorial day, fourth of July. It will work in a Dixieland style. This is my first submission and I hope to upload more... contact at www.arturoworks.com. .

Solo Guitar - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1021517 Composed by Victor Rebullida. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Individual part. 14 pages. Victor Rebullida #6055667. Published by Victor Rebullida (A0.1021517). Recorded by Alberto Royo in CD Mistúra. Música para guitarra. Cuatro autores contemporáneos aragoneses. Edited by Delicias Discográficas 2001. Reference DCD-28. More information about the CD: alberto.guitarra@gmail.comGioco is a five part piece: Allegro leggiero; tpo. giusto Triste e intenso; poco rubato Scherzando Adagio meditativo Allegro agitato The author wrote:Gioco, an Italian word meaning game, is the title of this guitar work composed in 1994.Gioco is a work of current aesthetic, atonal, built however on a structure as classic as that of a Sonata, of great conciseness and clarity and brief duration. It consists of five movements in which the former has a simple, school sonata shape, with two well-identifiable themes, one ethereal based on sets of bells and harmonics and another choppy, contrasting, in parallel ninth intervals, which are developed and subsequently reexposed at the end of the movement. The second movement is a slow time when the resonance of arpeggiated sounds is important. As will happen in the fourth half, the music conveys a sense of freedom, almost improvisation resulting from its unsympted writing and the irregularity of the measure. The third is a Scherzo in which humorous character is accentuated by the rapid descending and ascending glissandi. No less grotesque is the contrasting quote of Gaspar Sanz's Spaniard played in a singular way as will be seen in the interpretation, suddenly interrupted by the glissandi. The fourth is another slow movement in which resonances are also the center. Here you resort to obtaining a particular, harmonic sound similar to the sound of a gong, by placing paper clip on the three boards of the guitar. The fifth and final time is live movement in the form of a purr in which the different episodes are quotes from the themes appeared in the previous movements. The player says about this work: Work dated in 1994, virtuoso and contrasting, of resounding accessibility, not intending to reach the audience using easy resources but an admirable capacity for communication, Gioco is divided into five movements in which varied colours and textures occur and almost all the abundant classical and contemporary timbric resources of the guitar are exploited with intelligence, (controlled challenges, blows on the board, metallic vibration of a clip...), In this work one of the outstanding findings of its author is the alternative use in the Scherzando of his contemporary language and two recognizable literal quotations of the Aragonese Baroque guitarist Gaspar Sanz, which appear softly in an ironic and evocative loudness. Justino Losada wrote this review:Gioco, represents a continuous game of sonorities of very rich timbric nuances as well as an exacerbated game of frets (such as in its 3rd movement Scherzando), and abundant contemporary resources such as the microtonal vicinity of the detuned passages or the blows on the box for our interpreter to show of his skills, a task that although complicated he knows how to perform perfectly coming out of all difficulties. Rebullida's language is not simple, but the composer is clearly aware of the difficulties to reach a large audience, and to do so he polishes his language by seeking an exchange between modern and ancient sonorities in a continuous game creating a climate of warm and direct communication. Justino Losada

LOVE OF MY LIFE (Queen) - GUITAR DUETFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric GuitarDerek Hasted writes This delightful melody fits classical guitar like a glove. There are two arrangements in this one edition - one for “solo and accompaniment†and one where the roles swap over at each verse. The versions are otherwise identical. The first of these arrangements is ideal for a duo in which the abilities are slightly unequal. My arrangement is based on Queen’s Official Video and includes all the key changes and phrases except for one little piece of quasi-improvisation I have removed (which would otherwise leave one player looking at the floor in a duet performance!)There is an amount of fingering and slurring which may help to get the smoothest performance, but there are plenty of places where the music needs to breathe, so please don’t rush... I hope you enjoy playing this lovely and moving piece! This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Guitar - Intermediate - Digital Download SKU: ZY.DO-1522 Composed by Francis Bebey. Arranged by Ingrid Riollot. Score. 5 pages. Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) #DO 1522. Published by Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) (ZY.DO-1522). Son originalité continue de résonner dans le monde entier depuis son décès à la fin du mois de mai 2001.Francis Bebey was born in Douala in July 1929, into a large family where his father, a pastor, struggled to feed his children. But Francis had the opportunity to go to school. Admiring his elder brother, Marcel Eyidi Bebey, he educated himself, distinguished himself, and eventually received a scholarship to go and take his baccalaureate in France. We approached the end of the 1950s when he arrived in La Rochelle. More than ever, in this France where Africans were looked at with curiosity, condescension, or disdain, Francis relied on his intellectual resources. A diligent worker, he obtained his Baccalaureate, then moved to Paris where he started English studies at the Sorbonne. One day, he knew what truly attracted him: he wanted to do radio. Francis learned his craft in France and in the USA.After working for a few years as a reporter, he was hired in 1961 as an international civil servant in the UNESCO Information Department. In parallel, Francis had always been drawn to musical creation. His very serious daytime activity didnâ??t prevent him from frequenting jazz clubs in the evenings. In Paris, the Jazz, the trendy music of that time, but also rumba and salsa attracted him. He collected records and attended numerous concerts. With his accomplice Manu Dibango, Francis took the stage and played music.Francis liked classical music since his childhood. He grew up listening to the cantatas and oratorios of Bach or Handel that his father had sung in the temple. He became passionate about the guitar, impressed by the Spanish and South American masters, and decided to learn to strum the instrument himself. He started composing guitar pieces, blending the various influences that flow through him with the traditional African music he had carried within since childhood. His approach captivated the director of the American Cultural Center (then located in the Saint-Germain neighborhood of Paris), who offered him the opportunity to perform in front of an audience. Francis gave his first guitar recital there (1963) in front of a mesmerized audience. His first solo album was released shortly thereafter.Gradually, Francis became recognized as a musician and composer. Several albums of the African guitar ambassador, as described by the press, were released. He also wrote books, to the point that his artistic career became challenging to reconcile with his career as a civil servant. In 1974, even though he had become the General Manager in charge of music at UNESCO, he took the bold leap and resigned from this prestigious institution to dedicated himself to the three activities that interested him: music, literature, and journalism. He explored the traditional musical heritage of the African continent, notably through the thumb piano sanza, and the polyphonic music of the Central African pygmies, or singing in his native language and composing humoristic songs in French!Success followed. Francis Bebey traveled the world: from France to Brazil, Cameroon to Sweden, Germany to the Carribean, or Morocco to Japan... the list of countries where he was invited to perform, gives lectures, or meets readers is very long. In addition to public recognition, he enjoyed the recognition of his fellow musicians, such as guitarist John Williams or Venezuelan Antonio Lauro, who invited him to be a part of the jury for a classical guitar competition in Caracas. His life was the journey of an African pioneer, a man rooted in his cultural heritage and carrying a message of sharing and hope for the world. His originality continues to vibrate around the world since his passing at the end of May 2001.

Études for Solo Guitar<br> The subject of creating an educational aid for guitar students of an intermediate level that will serve also as a similar aid for theory and composition students fascinates me and motivates my compositional thought for quite a while. The objective was to create miniature complete works for the guitar, as J. S. Bach did with his fifteen inventions, in the “manner” of an Étude that deals with specific aspects of guitar techniques and musicianship in general.<br> <br> <br> These Études are gradually graded based on their difficulty and style. They cover all the positions of the guitar and explore known and some unfamiliar techniques for the contemporary guitarist.<br> I used a compositional language more familiar for the level of the intermediate guitarist but without sacrificing my original compositional voice so these pieces could be used as concert works by the advanced musicians as well. My intention is to educate students in a multilevel study environment and to be able to promote the music of our time. During my teaching years I found that students become better musicians when they have been taught to adapt certain performance difficulties and compositional techniques at an earlier level of their training.<br> Titles:<br> <br> 1 with false optimism<br> <br> 2 with moderate sadness<br> <br> 3 with just the two of you<br> <br> 4 with a touch of impatience<br> <br> 5 with a touch of grandeur<br> <br> 6 with a counterpoint attitude<br> <br> 7 with a touch of shame<br> <br> 8 with a touch of boredom<br> <br> 9 going and never coming back<br> <br> 10 with a peaceful anger<br> <br> 11 without the heavy ones<br> <br> 12 without hope<br> <br> 13 without sense of humor<br> <br> 14 with a masculine attitude<br> <br> 15 with two little bears in mind<br> <br> 16 without hesitation<br> <br> 17 with shameless vibrato<br> <br> 18 with a touch of distress<br> <br> 19 without fear of failure<br> <br> 20 with this and that<br> <br> 21 with a kind motion<br> <br> 22 with a rondo attitude<br> <br> 23 with suspense<br> <br> 24 with everything you may have

Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music (M0.20033BCDEB). ISBN 9781610651066. 8.75x11.75 inches.Soul Jazz Guitar is a collection of Randy Johnston's tunes and solos specifically designed for the intermediate student. Rather than merely transcribing solos from his CDs, he plays material at a reasonable tempo specifically with the student in mind. There are tunes (Downtime, The Philadelphians, and Rolling at the Summit) that appear on his commercial CDs, but included here are versions that are new and totally unique to this project. There are also some improvisations on some familiar standard progressions to help the student deal with these changes when he or she encounters them at jam sessions etc. Randy has tried to present his take on the Jazz language as clearly and faithfully as possible to make the solos easy to learn. He hopes that this will lead the student not just to imitation but also to develop his or her own approach to these progressions just as he developed his own approach from listening to the playing of his role models over the years. Includes access to online audio.

Acoustic Guitar - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1315011 By Jay Jordan. By Jay Jordan. Instructional. Educational Method. 18 pages. Pro Creations Music #903760. Published by Pro Creations Music (A0.1315011). Beginning guitar courses at the middle school and high school level can be a popular addition to curricula that so often center around performing groups. Such a course, when offered as a general music course, i.e.,a course that has no prerequisite and no public performance component, can be an attractive way for students to complete an arts requirement without an extra-curricular commitment.  At the same time a class like beginning guitar may serve as the only chance a music educator has to introduce the very idea of music to students as both an art form and a language. In todayâ??s on-line world there are countless avenues for learning guitar, be it YouTube videos, dedicated apps, or TAB sites. While the sharing of user-generated transcriptions of popular songs using tablature may be quick and easy, TAB sites do not employ standard music notation (not to mention being rife with mistakes both practical and theoretical). Standard Music Reading for Beginning Guitar was developed as a sequential, practical method for learning the basics of standard music notation using acoustic guitar as a vehicle. It is not meant to replace other methods e.g., the learning of popular songs or a music theory component, but as a companion so that students can learn about music as a language while, hopefully, continuing to enjoy guitar playing for years to come.

Beautiful, instantly recognizable cheerful melody. One of Burt Bacharach's many fine pieces. This piece makes you stand out as a solo jazz guitarist of all idioms. Some chords are played as triads or dyads or eliminated, and single notes are used. I draw a line over the note if it's the high note of a chord or I use a dot if it's played as a single note, the chord is then in parentheses. I tend to use a minimalist style that keeps the important parts of the music. Sounds great on acoustic and electric guitars.I tend to play the triad chords using a little hand vibrato, makes them sing a bit. I also slide up to the single notes at times. The tag at the end, is a nice jam in itself if playing with another guitar or bass, if solo I play it 4 times. Listeners will love this tune! Hope you will too.

Guitar - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Oleg Boyko. 21st Century, Method, Etudes and Exercises, Repertoire, Classroom. Solo Part. 45 pages. Published by Oleg Boyko
There is plenty of music sheet for classical guitar of various styles, directions and levels of difficulty. There is also enough methodical literature for all tastes. However, every year there are appearing new schools, methodical collections and exercises. That’s why the art of playing classical guitar is not standing still.<br> <br> During my pedagogical activity rather often I faced the problem of searching or creating small exercises for a particular technique and solution of a particular problem. What didn’t suit me in the existing studies? First of all, the monotony of technical material (the accent only on the left hand technique of a performer, while the concentration of sound control is mostly in the right hand; a limited quantity of technical methods: arpeggios, chords, passagework technique). Secondly, it’s an amount of musical material. As a rule, the main efforts were aimed to memorize the text, which distracted from the very purpose of etudes, the work on a certain type of technical difficulties.<br> That is how the collection «Unusual Studies» appeared.<br> What is their «singularity»?<br> The collection is conditionally divided into several sections in the order of increasing the complexity of material, and it concludes with three «Concert Studies». They are distinguished by a more developed emotional atmosphere and rather high level of complexity and size. These studies require a certain level of preparation and can diversify a performer’s concert program. Nevertheless, they are only an addition to the basic material, which is focused primarily on the elementary and intermediate levels of training.<br> When it comes to the “singularity”, focus is shifted to the right hand, with the detailed fingering of the right hand. The fingers «p» and «a» are introduced more actively, paying attention to the alignment of their sound, attack power. It is necessary to strive for full equality of all fingers of the right hand, using fingers «p» and «a» not only when playing bass and melody, but also in arpeggio, passaggio technique (in the middle of an arpeggio or passaggio).<br> - learning to use touches in a high contrast while playing: staccato/legato. This, in my opinion, is extremely necessary to already assimilate at the initial stage of training.<br> - active use of the alternation in the musical material of open and closed strings. Control over the strength of the sound of open strings, timbre ratio.<br> - using the high positions of the guitar’s fingerboard with open strings without excessive physical effort .<br> - rather small size of studies. This allows to concentrate directly on the technical difficulties, rather than on memorizing.<br> <br> I hope that this collection will help you to achieve the desired result faster and more effectively, will bring not only methodical benefit, but also aesthetic pleasure.

Guitar - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.797695 By Ernesto Nazareth. By Boudleaux Bryant. Arranged by Derek Hasted. 20th Century,Classical. 15 pages. Derek Hasted #3550449. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797695). LOVE HURTS - GUITAR QUARTET/LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This gloriously punchy piece has been performed by The Everly Brothers, Jim Capaldi, Roy Orbison and many more!I originally arranged this for my Guitar Workshop and it’s proved a real crowd pleaser at concerts, being easy, upbeat and well-known. The parts lock together securely and even an inexperienced ensemble can play this without a conductor. Yes, this really has been tried and tested in concert many times!A more experienced ensemble will enjoy playing this in a full-length concert - it offers a rewarding sound for little effort and takes away some of the pressure that comes from playing a varied concert!I hope you enjoy performing this piece!

By Hanna Annala. For Guitar (Classical). Classic. 172 pages. Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music
ISBN 9781609743536. In compiling this landmark sourcebook, Finnish guitarists Hannu Annala and Heiki Matlik consulted more than 70 music texts as well as dozens of composer resumes acquired from the musical information centers of several countries. During the writing process, which lasted for more than three years, they received additional information from many modern composers, including Leo Brouwer and Reginald Smith Brindle among others. In addition, several internationally renowned performing guitarists provided valuable information; these include Magnus Andersson (Sweden), Remi Boucher (Canada), Margarita Escarpa (Spain), Aleksander Frauchi (Russia) and David Tanenbaum (USA) among others. The authors' aim was to write a well-structured book with separate chapters for each instrument, such as the Renaissance and Baroque guitar, the Renaissance and Baroque lute, the vihuela, etc. This unique structure enables the reader to easily discover which composers wrote for a certain instrument during any given period. In addition to the composers one would expect to find in such a comprehensive listing, the book documents several historical and modern composers for whom little previous information has been available. The book's list of more than 400 guitar and lute concertos dating from the Baroque era to the present day is a totally unprecedented. Short introductions regarding guitar and lute-like instruments as well as their basic histories are provided at the beginning of the book. The authors hope that the Handbook of Guitar and Lute Composers will serve as a practical guide for both amateurs and professionals, encouraging further study of the history of these instruments and expanding the repertoire heard on today's concert stage.
