It's composed specifically for classical guitar with a standard EADGBE tuning. The piece is approximately Grade 5 to 6 in standard (ABRSM), with plenty of barré and half-barré passages providing the technical challenge. As a gentle piece, it would work particularly well paired with Holly's Lullaby, another of my classical guitar compositions. Melodic ideas -- brief and momentary, musical textures, instrumental timbres, and techniques all special to the guitar create this shifting autumnal scene. This is the finale of my 'Eyeworth Suite' for the classical guitar, and it describes a tranquil, sunny afternoon by Eyeworth Pond in the New Forest, Hampshire, UK, and is written as a response to a seasonal cycle of four poems by my friend, the poet, David Dayson. The work is gentle and reflective but demands a high level of technique as a lot of it takes place around and above the twelfth fret. There will be no 'dusty bits' on your guitar after playing this one! :-)The whole suite is available either as single movements or as a complete work. The complete work is also available with tab. and consists of 'Prelude', 'Autumn', 'Winter', 'Spring' and this movement, the 'Summer Idyll' and intersperses two episocdic, lively movements between the two rhapsodic outer movements, with the doleful Winter in the middle - this does however, have a lively Yule Dance in 6/4 at its heart.

I composed my second guitar sonata in 2010. Guitar Sonata No. 2 in C major is six pages long, has two movements, and its estimated performance time is 8:30 to 9:00. The first movement, Inner Visions & Power Puffs, is a zippy sonata form opening with a 12-bar blues Theme 1. After a conventional modulating transition Theme 2 appears in the traditional key of G major. The title of the movement alludes to the Stevie Wonder album Innervisions and, of course, the Powerpuff Girls. The sonata form has a climax by way of three Bartok pizzicati on the dominant pedal to depict the girls defeating Mojo Jojo and putting him in jail. The second movement is a lullaby with variations. The lullaby is an original song I used to sing for one of my nieces to help her fall asleep. The complete sonata has been recorded by Daniel Estrem and is available on the Magnatune release Estrem Plays Lawson.http://magnatune.com/artists/albums/estrem-estremlawson/I played movement 1 at a Seattle Classic Guitar Society open mic in 2012 on a warm summer Friday night and there were kids playing and screaming in the background, which helped set the mood of the sonata rather than break it.

This is the first time I have attempted to compose for a guitar orchestra ensemble, which has only emerged in recent years. This somewhat syncopated work is meant to be both fun for the performers and the audience. The 5th Guitar 's sixth string must be tuned down to drop-D tuning. The rest of the guitars are in standard tuning. It is recommended to double each part with at least three guitarists if possible. The key signatures represent A Dorian and F Lydian. Level: grade 4 (intermediate). Duration: About 2 minutes, 5 seconds. Instrumentation: Five Nylon-String Guitars (15 players or more).

The first movement I Stand Strong reflects the serenity and isolation someone might feel when surrounded by the mountains of Stowe, Vermont in the U.S.A. The second movement …and the Sky is the Limit written in an ABA cyclic form is full of rhythmic gestures starting with the combination of 7/8, 2/4, 5/8 and 3/4 in the first four measures that leads to a slow movement as an attempt to sing a Greek song in those vast territories and to portray the thankfulness of being there and experience the presence of the amazing beauty of it. When asked why he commissioned this piece, Holzman replied, My wife and I spend our summers in Stowe. We love being there, celebrate the summer and spend time outside. We have family and friends who come and share a few days with us and Apostolos is a dear friend who has been coming for several years. We talked about the possibility of him writing a piece that reflected Stowe and the mountains. When asked about the piece, Paraskevas responded, I always write music for the person behind the instrument, so while composing every note of this piece I had Adam in my mind; the way he plays, the way he breathes the way he lives his life. The work is written for the mountains of Stowe through Adam’s eyes and heart and I am the vehicle who translates it.

This mood seems to me folded into the Brazilian Bossa Nova, and the Brazilians? term ?saudade?; in this piece I offer up my tribute to one of my favourite composers, Radamés Gnattali (1906-1988), who wrote for every musical situation in his era in Brazil ? from the concert stage to the back alley, and everything in between. Lua para Epilogo de Verão, is dedicated to the Brazilian guitarist Fabio Zanon, who is both a great friend and a tremendous inspiration.This étude tackles solid chords and contrary motion in the left hand, and, like all the études in this collection, voice separation and phrasing. In measure 24 the guitarist must execute a diagonal barré, where the first finger covers position IV at the first string, and position V at the fifth string, hence the V/IV indication after the barré symbol. The practicalities of navigating through the different chord shapes and rhythms in the piece mean that not all notes can be held for their full, written value. Such discrepancies between the text and the playing are common in this style of music.Les nuits du mois d?août peuvent contenir une douce mélancolie, à savoir que la fin de l?été approche. Released in the summer of 2016, Keith Gehle’s 5th full length commercial recording (Space and Time) is a sincere, heartfelt journey of healing through instrumental sounds and compositions. The album features 11 tracks of steel and nylon string guitars with accompanying piano, cello, flute, oboe, strings and synth pad sounds. Keith wrote the music and produced the recordings over several years after the unexpected death of his brother Ken in January of 2010. The process of grieving an unimaginable loss coupled with writing and recording music as a tribute to his late brother was extremely difficult and at times painful. The resulting work is honest, pure, and for Keith, a healing endeavor. This folio contains seven pieces from the album that work well as guitar solos and include detailed fingerings and interpretation. There's also a version with TAB available on this site. The melody is built within arpeggios that weave open strings into the texture. Intonation in the high range of the guitar involves careful listening and exact fingering with the left hand.
