Guitar - Digital Download SKU: A0.1070388 Composed by Apostolos Paraskevas. 20th Century,Romantic Period,World. Full Performance. Duration 260. Silver Sickle Publications #6103003. Published by Silver Sickle Publications (A0.1070388). Mountains of Stowe, 2015 is a two-movement piece commissioned by and dedicated to guitarist Adam Holzman. The first movement I Stand Strong reflects the serenity and isolation someone might feel when surrounded by the mountains of Stowe, Vermont in the U.S.A. The second movement …and the Sky is the Limit written in an ABA cyclic form is full of rhythmic gestures starting with the combination of 7/8, 2/4, 5/8 and 3/4 in the first four measures that leads to a slow movement as an attempt to sing a Greek song in those vast territories and to portray the thankfulness of being there and experience the presence of the amazing beauty of it. When asked why he commissioned this piece, Holzman replied, My wife and I spend our summers in Stowe. We love being there, celebrate the summer and spend time outside. We have family and friends who come and share a few days with us and Apostolos is a dear friend who has been coming for several years. We talked about the possibility of him writing a piece that reflected Stowe and the mountains. When asked about the piece, Paraskevas responded, I always write music for the person behind the instrument, so while composing every note of this piece I had Adam in my mind; the way he plays, the way he breathes the way he lives his life. The work is written for the mountains of Stowe through Adam’s eyes and heart and I am the vehicle who translates it.

Guitar - Intermediate - Digital Download SKU: ZY.DO-1522 Composed by Francis Bebey. Arranged by Ingrid Riollot. Score. 5 pages. Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) #DO 1522. Published by Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) (ZY.DO-1522). Son originalité continue de résonner dans le monde entier depuis son décès à la fin du mois de mai 2001.Francis Bebey was born in Douala in July 1929, into a large family where his father, a pastor, struggled to feed his children. But Francis had the opportunity to go to school. Admiring his elder brother, Marcel Eyidi Bebey, he educated himself, distinguished himself, and eventually received a scholarship to go and take his baccalaureate in France. We approached the end of the 1950s when he arrived in La Rochelle. More than ever, in this France where Africans were looked at with curiosity, condescension, or disdain, Francis relied on his intellectual resources. A diligent worker, he obtained his Baccalaureate, then moved to Paris where he started English studies at the Sorbonne. One day, he knew what truly attracted him: he wanted to do radio. Francis learned his craft in France and in the USA.After working for a few years as a reporter, he was hired in 1961 as an international civil servant in the UNESCO Information Department. In parallel, Francis had always been drawn to musical creation. His very serious daytime activity didnâ??t prevent him from frequenting jazz clubs in the evenings. In Paris, the Jazz, the trendy music of that time, but also rumba and salsa attracted him. He collected records and attended numerous concerts. With his accomplice Manu Dibango, Francis took the stage and played music.Francis liked classical music since his childhood. He grew up listening to the cantatas and oratorios of Bach or Handel that his father had sung in the temple. He became passionate about the guitar, impressed by the Spanish and South American masters, and decided to learn to strum the instrument himself. He started composing guitar pieces, blending the various influences that flow through him with the traditional African music he had carried within since childhood. His approach captivated the director of the American Cultural Center (then located in the Saint-Germain neighborhood of Paris), who offered him the opportunity to perform in front of an audience. Francis gave his first guitar recital there (1963) in front of a mesmerized audience. His first solo album was released shortly thereafter.Gradually, Francis became recognized as a musician and composer. Several albums of the African guitar ambassador, as described by the press, were released. He also wrote books, to the point that his artistic career became challenging to reconcile with his career as a civil servant. In 1974, even though he had become the General Manager in charge of music at UNESCO, he took the bold leap and resigned from this prestigious institution to dedicated himself to the three activities that interested him: music, literature, and journalism. He explored the traditional musical heritage of the African continent, notably through the thumb piano sanza, and the polyphonic music of the Central African pygmies, or singing in his native language and composing humoristic songs in French!Success followed. Francis Bebey traveled the world: from France to Brazil, Cameroon to Sweden, Germany to the Carribean, or Morocco to Japan... the list of countries where he was invited to perform, gives lectures, or meets readers is very long. In addition to public recognition, he enjoyed the recognition of his fellow musicians, such as guitarist John Williams or Venezuelan Antonio Lauro, who invited him to be a part of the jury for a classical guitar competition in Caracas. His life was the journey of an African pioneer, a man rooted in his cultural heritage and carrying a message of sharing and hope for the world. His originality continues to vibrate around the world since his passing at the end of May 2001.

(+)
This fourth booklet is dedicated to ensemble playing through five trios and three quartets of various styles (tango, ballad, rock, etc.) appropriate for the end of primary school with a few years of experience and the beginning of secondary school. Some pieces are written in a homorhythmic manner and can constitute an introduction to ensemble music, while others are rather polyrhythmic. They can constitute a first contact with the following techniques and effects: staccato, pizzicato, accent, louré, natural harmonic, percussion or crossed strings. This volume is therefore intended for guitarists who already know the notes in first position. Two pieces include a more advanced part with an introduction to playing in 5th position. These are short pieces that do not present technical challenges other than those allowing you to achieve the effects and play expressively. You will find in the scores indications of nuances, timbre, attack and fingerings which constitute suggestions for work and not prescriptions. Teachers and students are therefore invited to make interpretation choices different from those proposed or to try to convincingly render those already written. The pieces were composed or arranged by UQAM music education students as part of a course aimed at equipping musicians for teaching guitar in the school system. Many of them are musicians from different backgrounds (composition, performance, world music, etc.), which explains the creativity found in the pieces. All the pieces have been the subject of an audio recording available on the Productions d’Oz website and on YouTube. Search for À vos guitares, prêt, joue! Vol. 4.Isabelle Héroux, editor, professor, Department of Music, UQAM.Louis-Edouard Thouin-Poppe, assistant editor, arranger and engraver. Solo Guitar - Digital Download SKU: A0.742405 Composed by Luigi Legnani. Arranged by Arte Nova Music Lab. Concert,Romantic Period,World. Individual part. 2 pages. Arte Nova Music Lab #3008973. Published by Arte Nova Music Lab (A0.742405). Luigi Rinaldo Legnani (7 November 1790 – 5 August 1877) was an Italian guitarist, singer, composer and luthier.[1]Born in Ravenna, Legnani was trained as a string player while very young but dedicated himself to guitar and voice. His debut as an operatic tenor was in Ravenna in 1807; his singing career spanned 17 years.[2] His career as a guitarist began with a concert in Milan in 1819; with his concerts in 1822 concerts in Vienna and return visits in 1833 and 1839 he tried to continue the guitar tradition established there by Mauro Giuliani.[3]Legnani is perhaps best known for his 36 Caprices op. 20 for the guitar, which cover all the major and minor keys, and which were probably inspired by Paganini's 24 Caprices for the violin. He and Paganini were friends from the 1830s; while it was once thought that he and Paganini performed together in public (Powroźniak mentions a concert in Northern Italy in 1837),[4] there is no evidence to support this claim. After the 1850s Legnani retired from active performance and became an instrument maker, concentrating on guitars and violins. The Legnani model guitar was popular in Central Europe through the middle of the nineteenth century.Legnani composed some 250 works, which were published in his lifetime throughout many of the major publishing houses in Europe. He died in Ravenna.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1155054 By Louis Armstrong. By Bob Thiele and George David Weiss. Arranged by Richard Hirsch. 20th Century,Multicultural,Pop,Standards,World. Individual part. 8 pages. Richard Hirsch #755336. Published by Richard Hirsch (A0.1155054). Taking inspiration in Isreal Kamakawiwo’ole’s Somewhere Over the Rainbow and What a Wonderful World mashup, I offer an arrangement in polyrhythmic 4/4 time of What a Wonderful World for solo acoustic guitar. The arrangement has an afro-flamenco character with two tiers of rhythm. Tier one is the normal 4/4 rhythm with accents at 1 and 3. Tier two consists of accents falling on beats 2 and 2& and 3& of the 4 beat measures. Tier two can be highlighted by clapping or tapping with a table knife on a bottle at beats 2 and 2& and 3&, with the strongest accent on 3& (an upbeat). The tune is really happy and up-lifting. If there are any little folks (kids two to four years old) around listening, they will have a hard time sitting still. My grandson (two and a half) really got going when I played it for him. I can hardly resist the urge to dance to the tune while playing myself! The arrangement is in the spirit of the Canarios by Gaspar Sanz for classical guitar and is meant to have the nature of a dance. The repetitive alternating thumb and index and middle finger cycle going through the broken chords with the melody woven in works to give the arrangement an almost hypnotic character. The fingering for the right hand is given in first section and is basically the same throughout the piece. The fingering for the left hand can, I believe, be easily figured out from the tablature. The arrangement is within the reach of intermediate students of the acoustic guitar; anyone who has mastered the basics of fingerstyle fingerpicking guitar, and can be played on both nylon and steel string acoustic guitars. The short and long glissandos and the arpeggios of natural harmonics resembling the kalimba (thumb harp) together with the drone effects of the enharmonic tones in the chords give an added dash of African spice to the piece.

Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899139). for solo classical guitar 4 pp (7 min.)BELA BARTOK Welcome to the enchanting world of Bartok’s folk music. These pieces have been transcribed from arrangements for flute and guitar. Bela Bartok, considered one of the 20th century’s most important composers, was born in Hungary in 1881. A prodigy, he was a professor at the Budapest Music Academy by the age of 26. His interest in traditional music led him to make many journeys (with his colleague Zolta Kodaly) through Hungary, Romania and Slovakia collecting songs and dances, the styles of which were synthesised into compositions of his own. He emigrated to the USA in 1940 where he died five years later of leukaemia. The pieces are deceptively simple, and it would be a mistake to take their natural forms, clear melodies, tonal harmonies and strong rhythms as an invitation to play inattentively. Quite the contrary. They stand any amount of playing, but only when the composing is heeded, the dynamics observed, and modulations anticipated.

Guitar - Digital Download SKU: A0.1070387 Composed by Apostolos Paraskevas. 20th Century,Romantic Period,World. Full Performance. Duration 203. Silver Sickle Publications #6102999. Published by Silver Sickle Publications (A0.1070387).

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1429935 By Keith Gehle. By Keith W. Gehle. New Age. Individual part. 21 pages. Keith Gehle #1010571. Published by Keith Gehle (A0.1429935). Released in the summer of 2016, Keith Gehle’s 5th full length commercial recording (Space and Time) is a sincere, heartfelt journey of healing through instrumental sounds and compositions. The album features 11 tracks of steel and nylon string guitars with accompanying piano, cello, flute, oboe, strings and synth pad sounds. Keith wrote the music and produced the recordings over several years after the unexpected death of his brother Ken in January of 2010. The process of grieving an unimaginable loss coupled with writing and recording music as a tribute to his late brother was extremely difficult and at times painful. The resulting work is honest, pure, and for Keith, a healing endeavor. This folio contains seven pieces from the album that work well as guitar solos and include detailed fingerings and interpretation. There's also a version with TAB available on this site. Some reviews of the Space and Time album:...the music is hopeful, heartfelt, and very sincere in addition to being exceptionally beautiful... one of the best guitar albums I heard this year. Highly recommended! - Mainlypiano.com...a lovely and peaceful album, ‘Space and Time’ is like a welcome breath of fresh air. - Journeyscapes Radio A masterpiece of New Age instrumental sounds, filled with moving melodies. - Music Web Express 3000...on Space and Time each track is a gorgeous representation of the new age and classical genre meeting half way to create a successful marriage of sound. There was not one track I could not appreciate. The simplicity, delicacy and arrangements were superb. - NewAgeMusicReviews.netI would say Space and Time is your most ‘spiritual’ work. With your album I feel lots of existential longing… It’s apparent you’re drawing inspiration from the stillness of nature and dusky silhouettes. I’ve been very stressed lately so this is exactly what I needed. - David (a fan)

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1308881 By Frederic Chopin. By Frederic Chopin. Arranged by Tondi. FR. 19th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Early Music,Standards. Individual part. 14 pages. ToRa Swarna Diva #898138. Published by ToRa Swarna Diva (A0.1308881). Fantasie Impromptu is one of the most iconic solo instrumental pieces for pianists around the world. Fantasie Impromptu was written almost 200 years ago by Frederic Chopin (1834). Actually, this work was never published by Chopin. Julian Fontana was the first to publish it.More than 100 years later (1960), Arthur Rubenstein, in a piano recording session of this composition, discovered through an original sheet written by Chopin himself, that this work was a work that had been completed. Inside it is written, composed for, which shows that this work was an order from a nobleman. Chopin was paid to write this. So this is the reason this work was never published. And unfortunately, during the lifetime of two giants in guitar composition and arrangement: F. Tarrega & Agustin Barrios, for some reason, they did not transcribe this great work into guitar playing. In fact, both of them are recorded as having transcribed several Chopin works onto the guitar. And now, after almost old 200 years, this is the most complete guitar transcription from Fantasie Impromptu written by Tondi Rangkuti a.k.a Tondi FR. Written in Key Bm on movt. 1 and B Major in movt 2. Of course this arrangement is intended for the Advanced - Intermediate level. Very suitable for playing at concerts & international guitar competitions.

Guitar - difficult - Digital Download First Sonata on Shakespearean Characters. Composed by Hans Werner Henze (1926-). This edition: Sheet music. Guitar Archive. Downloadable. Duration 25 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q4978. Published by Schott Music - Digital
My idea of developing music from Richard of Gloucester's monologue 'Now is the winter of our discontent', and of generating more music from that material, was conceived during the 1960s. Ten years later it took a more concrete form, when Julian Bream suggested to me that I should write a substanial new guitar work for him. More time went by, and only having finished 'We Come to the River' could I begin to realise our plan. Then began a collaboration with the instrumentalist that went through various phases, from which I gained a more profound knowledge of the technicalities and of the sound-world of the guitar. I would even go so far as to say that this collaboration gave me a new concept of how to write for an instrument with a rich tradition. The guitar is a 'knowing' or 'knowledgeable' instrument, with many limitations but also many unexplored spaces and depths within these limits. It possesses a richness of sound capable of embracing everything one might find in a gigantic contemporary orchestra. but one has to start from silence in order to notice this: one has to pause, and completely exclude noise.<br> The dramatis personae of this piece enter through the sound of the guitar as if it were curtain. Through masks, voices and gestures, they speak to us of great passion, of tenderness, sadness and comedy: strange events in people's lives. Into this, the whispering voices of spirits are mingled. The epilogue is spoken by Oberon, pacified and reconciled, as though Nature had been subjected to Man.<br> - Hans Werner Henze.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1478018 By Keith Gehle. By Keith W. Gehle. Classical,New Age. Individual part. 4 pages. Keith Gehle #1055382. Published by Keith Gehle (A0.1478018). British born Godfrey Barnsley was determined to construct his home on an acorn shaped hill in northwest Georgia despite being warned by his Cherokee neighbors that the land he chose to build on was sacred and that he would be cursed. He built the Italianate style house anyway and sadly many tragedies followed. One was the death of his close friend Col. Richard G. Earle who was killed by a Union sniper in May of 1864 as he rode in to warn the family of the approach of Sherman’s army. Col. Earle was laid to rest in the garden just steps from the back door. Years later the home was abandoned after the roof was torn off by a tornado… it quickly fell into ruins. Today, the lush English style garden and surroundings (but not the house) have been restored to their previous splendor and the site is frequently used for elegant weddings and social events. This musical impression of Godfrey Barnsley’s enchanted garden was released as a single on streaming platforms in July of 2024. The PDF includes detailed fingerings and interpretation in standard notation with tablature. There’s also a version with TAB available on this site. The accompanying English horn and cello parts are available by request at no charge by contacting the composer directly through his website: www.keithgehle.com

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.876582 Composed by Daniel Cueto. 20th Century,Contemporary,Latin,World. Individual part. 8 pages. Daniel Cueto #6119401. Published by Daniel Cueto (A0.876582). To write Tiento para un pensador, I found inspiration in an experience that I had many years ago, when I was a student in Dusseldorf, Germany. I was spending time one night with my friend Rafael Aguirre, a virtuoso classical guitarist, as he was casually playing through some of his repertoire. He asked me if I thought that it was possible to play a Baroque fugue - one of the most complex of musical genres - on the guitar. Before I had time to think about the question, he started playing his own arrangement of a fugue by J.S. Bach, talking me through it as the fugue theme appeared in different registers and the counterpoint got more and more intricate. The effectiveness and beauty of the contrapuntal sounds I experienced that night stayed with me. So in 2020, when I was invited to attend the Twisted Spruce Symposium and had a chance to compose my first piece for the guitar, I quickly decided that I would take up the challenge of writing my own fugue for the instrument. Looking to find a more specific context for the new work, I discovered the early Spanish genre of the tiento, essentially an early Hispanic form of the fugue. I came up with a melody which, I sensed, featured elements of that early style combined with a touch of Andean melancholy. As I composed, I strived to follow this basic affect throughout, letting the lines evolve organically as the piece seemed to engage in a long, continued search for its cultural and temporal identity.Para un pensador means for a thinker in Spanish. It is my homage to the intellectual guitarist, to the reflective and discerning performer of intricate contrapuntal music.I would like to extend special thanks to Nathan Fischer for producing this valuable edition of Tiento para un pensador.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899150 Composed by Frederic Chopin. Arranged by Rod Whittle. Romantic Period. Individual part. 5 pages. Maggie Creek Music #5044997. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899150). For solo classical guitar - 5 pagesFrédéric Chopin (1810–1849) Chopin was born in Poland but spent his twenty or so creative years based in Paris. With his supreme mastery of the keyboard and inimitable compositions for the instrument he became a luminary of the Romantic era. Afflicted early on by consumption, he worked with a tireless intensity to produce piano compositions both intricate and perfect, of every style and mood. Pears Cyclopaedia makes this discerning tribute: ‘A Chopin melody, limpid, transparent, singing, can be recognised easily by anyone, but his style gradually developed into something more subtle, more satisfying than pure melody.’ The Andante spianato (spianato means 'smooth') was composed in 1834 as an introduction to the Grande polonaise brilliante. The quiet introductory section of the Andante, in 6/8, is rounded by a chordal trio and a more processional 3/4. A serene middle section adds contrast, floating through upper octaves in quintessential Chopin style.
