Solo Guitar - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.946417 By De Falla, Manuel. By De Falla, Manuel. Arranged by Nick Mordal. 20th Century,Classical,Folk,Latin,Romantic Period. Individual part. 2 pages. Nick Mordal #6294907. Published by Nick Mordal (A0.946417). This arrangement condenses piano and voice onto classical guitar. It features a motoric accompaniment of octave repetition with the thread of a harmonic minor melody. Techniques used in the arrangement include barre, right hand string skipping, long stretches and overall precision to avoid guitar noise. It is sure to improve your skills on the instrument. This is a song from Manuel de Falla's 1922 collection called Siete Canciones Populares Españolas (7 popular Spanish songs). It is a haunting melody from ancient Spanish tradition.Â

Guitar - Advanced - Digital Download SKU: ZZ.DZ-4244 Composed by Konstantin Bliokh. Score. 13 pages. Les Productions d'OZ - Digital #DZ 4244. Published by Les Productions d'OZ - Digital (ZZ.DZ-4244). Sonata No. 6 Kharkiv for guitar solo was composed in 2021, in the end of the COVID-19 lockdown. At that time my family and I were staying in our home city of Kharkiv (also known as Kharkov), Ukraine for almost two years. We considered that pandemic period as a disaster, but later have realized that it actually was a rather happy time, because a war came to our homeland just a few months later. Since 2022 a considerable fraction of the 1.5 millions of Kharkiv citizens have left their homes, those who stayed have been living under ceaseless missile attacks, and many have been killed. I would like to dedicate this Sonata to the frontier city of Kharkiv and, most of all, to its citizens suffering from the war.Yet, the music of the Sonata does not have any specific program. Here I will give a brief overview of its main composition elements to facilitate future interpretations. The first and fourth movements of this Sonata are based on the interplay between the twelve-tone principle and the G-major tonal center, natural for the guitar. Namely, the first movement is based on the interaction of the G-major triad Gâ??Bâ??D of the open guitar strings 2â??3â??4, ascending motif 1 involving the notes Eâ??F#â??Aâ??C# (originally on the first string), and descending motif 2 using the notes E-â??Câ??Bbâ??A- (originally, on the bass string 6). These elements supplement each other to almost make up twelve tones (apart from the missing F), and the motifs alternate with ostinato fragments where each note in the G major triad is step-by-step moved by a semitone up or down. The second movement is a Scherzo involving numerous semitones in accented chords and fast passages, as well as chromatic melodic motion in the bass voice. It is almost atonal in some fragments, but has an overall tonal center of A-minor.The third movement is a meditative Adagio based on a theme composed within hexatonic scale Dâ??Eâ??Fâ??G#â??Aâ??B and ostinato chords involving open bass strings Eâ??Aâ??D and semitone Bâ??C.Finally, the fourth movement is based on the complete twelve-tone theme consisting of two phrases including motifs 1 and 2 from the first movement: Gâ??Fâ??Bbâ??Abâ??Câ??Ebâ??D and Eâ??Bâ??C#â??Aâ??F#. This theme is presented in its prime and retrograde forms. There are dialogues between the first string, basses and open middle strings, similar to the first movement. In the culmination, the twelve-tone theme is performed using the parallel motion of the standard guitar G-major chord with open middle strings across twelve positions. The Sonata was premiered and recorded (CD Naxos No. 8.574630) by the prominent Ukrainian guitarist Marko Topchii who has also lived and studied in Kharkiv. I am extremely grateful to him for the brilliant performance of this piece.I am greatly indebted to Productions dâ??Oz for keeping my original notations in places where these do not conform to the publisherâ??s style.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899127 Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Rod Whittle. 20th Century. Individual part. 4 pages. Maggie Creek Music #3037161. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899127). Transcription for solo classical guitar. 4 pages. Richard Strauss (1864 -1949) Strauss's music amounts to a huge body of symphonic and operatic work written over 60 years. Full of vitality, endlessly melodic, brilliantly orchestrated, it begins and ends in the romantic tradition, but for the most part expresses something more modern and individualistic, not without controversy in its time. Variation of style and structure is drawn from the descriptive (literary) nature of compositions, and an extraordinary inventiveness enlivens the scenes, moods and situations. Strauss said once that he produced music the way cows give milk, and indeed his music rarely seems contrived. The opera Strauss wrote 15 operas on a variety of subjects and across the whole spectrum of drama. He acknowledged being enchanted by the soprano voice, and his writing for it highlights many of the works, including Adriane auf Naxos (composed in 1912). The opera has been described as 'sparkling', which sums it up well, and passages influenced by Bach, Mozart, Puccini, and Wagner add to the interest. The storyline is a play within a play, the second part being the mythological 'Opera' staged in the story. The three pieces transcribed* are from this Opera. The guitar arrangements All classical guitar pieces are compromises. The instrument has only six strings, the left hand four fingers able to be used, and with the right hand its rare to use more than three fingers and the thumb. So, despite the amount of noise possible, it's inevitable that passages occur where either harmony, bass or fragments of counterpoint that would be beneficial are left out. In particular, the higher up the neck music is played the simpler it tends to be, if harder to play, and unless the low bass is an open string there wont be any. So I think the main part of attaining a fair transcription (better to be called an arrangement if the original musical structure is not strictly followed, as in this case) is determining how a good compromise can be reached. Melody, counterpoint, bass and main harmonies demand inclusion, and register is important. One may generally assume the original score can't be improved on. However, if the music may sound well on guitar, and the above elements can be incorporated without the playing becoming very difficult, something enjoyable to play and worthwhile listening to should be able to be achieved. Overture; 'A golden time …' Here the Mozart influence, better, inspiration, is wonderfully evident. A gentle waltz time (only the first section of the overture is transcribed) carries the colourful harmonies, strong melodic threads and connecting flourishes that stamp both pieces. The aria is alluded to in the Overture several times, which as you would expect, is intricately woven with the hints themes later to be established in the Opera. It has a kind of 'jazzy' freedom, and it's always miraculous to me that composition so involved can retain its musical line, here done in Strauss's inimitable way. The aria, sung not far into the Opera, has the perfect inevitability of Mozart, but again it is Strauss. As explained, keys have been changed to suit the guitar. Chorus and Aria This selection from the finale has features well worth trying to translate. The device of having a strong chorus, in the style of a Bach chorale, stated and then counterpointed by a solo voice in a restatement, is potent, and that in the opera the chorus (of the three nymphs) isn't immediately followed by the accompanying aria (of Ariadne) means the latter comes as a moment of surprising beauty. Neither parts are complicated, and lovely arpeggios, a feature Strauss's music, often impart the assured progressions. A problem was to capture the distinct register of the soprano voices, som.

Solo Guitar - Digital Download SKU: A0.483404 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Robert McCormack. Christmas,Classical,Holiday,Sacred,Traditional. Individual part. 1 pages. Published by Robert McCormak (A0.483404). The hymn that is this Christmas carol has gone through many iterations before popularly settling on this most commonly sung Mendelssohn melody. The arrangement is well within the intermediate level with the possible exception of the first two measures of the last two lines. There is a stretch here between fingers one and four, frets one and five with the additional challenge of a middle voice. Another carol offered by this arranger is, Once In Royal David's City, which has the same stretch but without the inner voice with which to contend. These two pieces are frequently performed together due to other similarities between them.

Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899109). 2 pages; for solo classical guitar; published by Maggie Creek MusicRichard Strauss (1864 -1949) Strauss's music amounts to a huge body of symphonic and operatic work written over 60 years. A problem was to capture the distinct register o.

Guitar (fingerpicking) - Intermediate - Digital Download SKU: M0.30599EB Composed by Andrew Lardner. Adult Contemporary. Contemporary. E-book. Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music #30599EB. Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music (M0.30599EB). ISBN 9781619117198. 8.75x11.75 inches.John Fahey transformed the world of acoustic flat-top steel-string guitar by bringing it to the concert stage as a respected, solo instrument. Blind Joe Death: Volume 1 looks at the important people and genres that shaped him as a composer. This volume focuses on Side 1 of the original 1967 Blind Joe Death LP, a collection of mostly traditional music that was adapted for solo guitar. Hints of Fahey's early influences endured throughout his career as a composer, yet early on, and in Blind Joe Death, a unique voice is coming into focus-one that is not afraid to explore the avant-garde with journeys into collage and expressionism. Six extensively edited solos from Blind Joe Death are included in Volume 1: On Doing an Evil Deed Blues, St. Louis Blues, Poor Boy a Long Ways from Home, Uncloudy Day, John Henry and In Christ There Is No East or West. Within these transcriptions, Andrew Lardner has provided admirers of John Fahey's body of work with the essential keys to launch their own journeys into replicating the sounds and style of Fahey's landmark solos from Blind Joe Death.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899117 Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Rod Whittle. 20th Century. Individual part. 2 pages. Maggie Creek Music #25803. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899117). 2 pages; for solo classical guitar; published by Maggie Creek MusicClaude Debussy (1862 – 1918) Debussy’s compositions form part of an art movement known as French Impressionism that evolved in France at the end of the 19th Century. He was its leading musical exponent and a seminal influence on modern music. The aim of Impressionism was to reflect mood, which Debussy did with the use of unusual chords and modes which nevertheless progress unerringly through evocative landscapes to peaks of tension. Careful attention to form gives impalpable sentiments a sense of direction and completion. The excerpt 'Golaud's Letter' from early in Debussy's only opera, the hugely influential ‘Pelleas and Melisande’, demonstrates this, and exhibits his masterful expression of mood and drama. Exquisite without being flowery, forceful but not overblown, the Letter's spoken voice recitative style is a natural accompaniment to the Letter's contents, while it accentuates the arrival of cadences.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1186697 By Gerry Saulter. By Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Gerry Saulter. Baroque,Classical,Early Music. Individual part. 7 pages. Serenade Music #786346. Published by Serenade Music (A0.1186697). Johann Sebastian Bach likely composed this Prelude sometime between 1717-1723 while he served as Kapellmeister for Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Cöthen. My goal was to create a very playable arrangement that sounds beautiful. I started with developing left hand gestures and fingerings that would be simple and logical. The left hand gestures combine with the right hand arpeggio pattern help to enhance the lyrical quality of the down-stem voice, which is consistently played with the right hand thumb. Additionally, the simplified left hand function assists to give clarity to the moving sequential chord arpeggio. To help memorize the sequential chords, I have identified the implied chord harmony as it changes throughout the Prelude.I hope that this arrangement makes the process of learning this magical and beautiful Prelude a joyful one for every guitar player.

Guitar - Advanced - Digital Download SKU: ZZ.DZ-4088 Composed by Louis Trépanier. Score. 9 pages. Les Productions d'OZ - Digital #DZ 4088. Published by Les Productions d'OZ - Digital (ZZ.DZ-4088). ISBN 9782898522055.August nights can be tinged with a bit of melancholy because the end of the summer approaches. The moon softly glows with nostalgia for a season passing us by. This mood seems to me folded into the Brazilian Bossa Nova, and the Brazilians? term ?saudade?; in this piece I offer up my tribute to one of my favourite composers, Radamés Gnattali (1906-1988), who wrote for every musical situation in his era in Brazil ? from the concert stage to the back alley, and everything in between. Lua para Epilogo de Verão, is dedicated to the Brazilian guitarist Fabio Zanon, who is both a great friend and a tremendous inspiration. This étude tackles solid chords and contrary motion in the left hand, and, like all the études in this collection, voice separation and phrasing. In measure 24 the guitarist must execute a diagonal barré, where the first finger covers position IV at the first string, and position V at the fifth string, hence the V/IV indication after the barré symbol. The practicalities of navigating through the different chord shapes and rhythms in the piece mean that not all notes can be held for their full, written value. Such discrepancies between the text and the playing are common in this style of music.

Catharina Josepha Pratten (15 November 1824 – 10 October 1895) was a German guitar virtuoso, composer, and teacher, also known as Madame Sidney Pratten. She was born Catharina Josepha Pelzer in Mülheim on 15 November 1824, the daughter of the German guitarist and music teacher Ferdinand Pelzer. Her family moved to England in 1829. On 24 September 1854, she married the English flautist Robert Sidney Pratten.Catharina began touring in Europe from the age of eight, and by 1844 was well known in England as a composer and guitar teacher. She soon established her school - Madame Sidney Pratten's Guitar School - and published tutorials, including Guitar School: a Book of Methods (1859) and Learning the Guitar: Simplified (1874), which advocated the use of alternative tuning in E major. Her pupils included Queen Victoria’s daughters Louise, Princess of Wales and Beatrice, and the actor, singer, guitarist, and composer Ernest Shand. She composed some 250 works, most of them for solo guitar or voice and guitar. Heike Matthiesen has recorded some of the guitar pieces, including the variations on Carnaval de Venise, the two Fairy Sketches, and the Serenade. Her residence in London was 22 Dorset Street, Portman Square, where she lived after the death of her husband in 1868, and where she died on 10 October 1895. Her sister, Giulia Pelzer (also a teacher), continued to run the guitar school after Catharina’s death. Catharina is buried at Brompton Cemetery, London. She owned many guitars herself and selected others for her pupils, often with her label inside. One - in splendid condition - was advertised for sale in The Times in 1939.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.899151 Composed by Maurice Ravel. Arranged by Rod Whittle. 20th Century. Individual part. 3 pages. Maggie Creek Music #5957565. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899151). Arranged for solo classical guitar 3 pp intermediate difficultyMaurice Ravel (1875 -1937) Ravel was born in the Basque region of France and much of his work shows a Spanish influence (this, together with his interest in jazz has produced some exceptional guitar transcriptions). He was a pupil of Faure and at first fell, like many contemporary composers, under Debussy's spell. However, his ascetic and intellectual bents produced from the start a refinement of composition and orchestration, and development of melody, all his own. Later music shows a fondness for the rhythmic features of jazz, and thoughtful incorporation of the innovations of modern music – strong dissonance, atonality etc. Kaddisch (1914) is one of two pieces based on Hebrew songs that Ravel wrote for solo voice and piano.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942113 Composed by Apostolos Paraskevas. 20th Century,Contemporary,World. Individual part. 6 pages. Silver Sickle Publications #6566951. Published by Silver Sickle Publications (A0.942113). I’ve known Stephan Connor for decades and I always enjoy seeing him working on his guitars (and on mine occasionally) and I enjoy learning of what keeps him fascinated constantly with the creation of new instruments. His latest creative thinking brought life to this composition. He brings out a special life to the forest when a different voice is been created through his guitars. When he asked me to compose Steve’s Mythical Forest he described it as …a walk to a forest where one finds a guitar and then picks it up and plays a tune... So, in this mythical forest I found the sounds at the same spots where the guitar maker transforms simple elements to a ‘magical wand’. And that is only a beginning… The work describes, in very simple tonal language, a small stroll in a forest at the end of the day and at the beginning of the night where sounds melting together in loving feelings and passionate desires for life.
