Published by John Michael Pasternak (A0.1276878). During the summer of 2020, several ensembles found themselves wanting to continue performing music at home. Many of these ensembles did not have access to traditional percussion instruments. To allow percussionists to have a way of performing despite not having access to their instruments, I decided to write a march using found instruments or instruments you can find in everyday life. For example, the crash cymbals may be played by two metal trash can lids, and the snare drum could be a small plastic garbage can. This march may also be performed with traditional instruments or found percussion based on the director’s preference.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.818257 By Stephen R Dalrymple. By Septimus Winter. Arranged by Stephen R Dalrymple (Dalrymple Designs). Folk. Score and parts. 54 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #3566019. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818257). Abraham’s Daughter: March from the Civil War ♫ by Septimus Winter (1861) ♫ with When Johnny Comes Marching Home by Patrick Gilmore a.k.a. Louis Lambert (1863). ♫ arranged for concert band by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ After a family trip to Gettysburg, Antietam, Harper’s Ferry, and Ford Theater, I created a concert band arrangement to solidify the trip in my mind using a popular Civil War song from the North, “Abraham’s Daughter,†and a song used by both North and South, “Johnny Comes Marching Home.†♫ Music was a means for soldiers to release the tensions of war. By December 1861 the Union army had 28,000 musicians in 618 bands, not counting soldiers who travelled with violins and other musical instruments. Soldiers often sang as they marched by day and at night in camp. Musical duels were not uncommon between Union and Confederate bands. This idea inspired the last section of the arranger where the 2 songs are played against each other. ♫ Septimus Winner wrote “Abraham’s Daughter†in 1861 for the Minstrel stage. “Abraham’s Daughter†pictures a fresh recruit that is on his way to Washington DC to be processed and trained for future battles. ♫ Given the unpublished verses we have, Abraham’s Daughter was undoubtedly sung and embellished by Union soldiers as they travelled from battlefield to battlefield. ♫ Winner is also known for writing “Ten Little Injuns†“Listen to the Mockingbird†and “Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?†♫ Abraham Lincoln had 4 sons, Robert Todd, Edward Baker, William Wallace, and Thomas (Tad); but no daughters. So, who is Abraham’s daughter? ♫ Oh! Should you ask me who she am, Columbia is her name, sir; She is the child of Abraham, Or Uncle Sam, the same, sir. Now if I fight, why ain't I right? And don't you think I oughter. The volunteers are a-pouring in From every loyal quarter, And I'm goin' down to Washington To fight for Abraham's daughter. ♫ At the beginning of the war, the majority of soldiers, North and South, were fighting to uphold their view of government, each side justifying its position by quoting the Constitution. Southern States saw each State as a sovereign, independent nation. Abraham Lincoln insisted that the United States were one nation. For Abraham Lincoln, the purpose of the war was to preserve the Union. The undivided union was Lincoln’s daughter. ♫ arrangement © 2000, 2013 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ recording ℗ 2021 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ presentation © 2021 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ sequenced by the arranger ♫ Purchase price includes permission to make photocopies of parts and additional scores for a medium size school band. ♫ This .pdf file includes 1) Condensed Conductor’s Score 2) Individual parts for: Instrumentation: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet 1, Clarinet 2, Alto Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Bassoon, Trumpet 1, Trumpet 2, F Horn, Trombone, Treble Clef Baritone, Tuba, Electric Bass, Snare and Bass Drums, Cymbals, and Bells. 3) Condensed Conductor’s Score in a smaller format for use in a 10 inch tablet 4) The same parts formatted for a 10 inch tablet. ♫ The YouTube video contains a full recording.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.818351 By Stephen R Dalrymple. By American Folk Song. Arranged by Stephen R Dalrymple. Folk. Score and parts. 52 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #6381291. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818351). Shenandoah ♫ traditional American folk song ♫ arranged for concert band by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ The meaning of this song will be long debated. Considered a sea chanty, the song was passed on orally by singers on clipper ships. The variations in lyrics that have been collected demonstrate how various singers over the decades have altered the song (consciously or unconsciously). ♫ This arrangement is based on lyrics that were collected prior to 1860 and published in Sea Songs and Shanties by W. B. Whall (1910). There are evidently 2 rivers mentioned in this song, the Shenandoah and the Missouri. The song tells a love story between an impetuous trader and a Shenandoah Valley Native American princess. As the trader heads for the Missouri River, he looks back longingly to the home of the princess. ♫ I have used the Dorian Mode to suggest Native American elements in the story line. The YouTube video features photos of both the Shenandoah River and the Missouri River. ♫ The white man loved the Indian maiden, Away you rolling river. With notions his canoe was laden. Ah-ha, I'm bound away, Cross the wide Missouri. ♫ O, Shenandoah, I love your daughter, Away you rolling river. I'll take her 'cross yon rolling water. Ah-ha, I'm bound away, Cross the wide Missouri. ♫ The chief disdained the trader's dollars: Away you rolling river. My daughter never you shall follow. Ah-ha, I'm bound away, Cross the wide Missouri. ♫ O, Shenandoah, I long to hear you, Away you rolling river. Across that wide and rolling river. Ah-ha, I'm bound away, 'Cross the wide Missouri. ♫ arrangement © 2000 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ recording ℗ 2021 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ presentation © 2021 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ sequenced by the arranger ♫ Purchase price includes permission to make photocopies of parts and additional scores for a medium size school band. ♫ This .pdf file includes 1) Condensed Conductor’s Score 2) Individual parts for: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet 1, Clarinet 2, optional Clarinet 3, Bass Clarinet, Alto Sax /Alto Clarinet, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Trumpet 1, Trumpet 2, French Horn, Trombone/Baritone/Bassoon, Treble Clef Baritone, Tuba, E Bass, Snare Drum/Cymbals, Shaker/Chimes, and Timpani ♫ The YouTube video contains a full recording.

Premiered May 2, 2013. Notes about the Music: In the spring of 2012, I was in Minnesota attending some performances, and had the fortunate opportunity of catching up with Matthew George, conductor of the Grand Symphonic Winds. Matt had given the world premiere performance of my Concerto for Brass Quintet (Dodecafecta), and has always had a major presence in the formation of new works for winds, so I was very delighted when he brought up the idea of a new work for his group. The Grand Symphonic Winds, in honor of their 25th anniversary, were looking to celebrate the influx of many international cultures which had become a significant part of the landscape in Minnesota. This immediately called out to me in musical terms, namely in the forms of rhythms and spirituality (hence the title!) The piece opens and closes with heroic and beautiful music, signifying (to me) what most cultures seem to all be saying, but in different languages: we all just want peace, harmony and love. The entire middle section is very rhythmic, using many percussion instruments found in different cultures, also represented in Minnesota: Latin America (claves, bongos), Africa (Djembe) and if possible, Southeast Asia (Dholak). And just for fun, I even spelled out Minnesota in Morse code, but this was merely for my own enjoyment! I wish to thank Matt George, for all he has done for the field of music in Wind Ensembles, and specifically to him and the Grand Symphonic Winds for entrusting to me the responsibility of composing this new work, which I truly hope finds its home in the literature. Jim Stephenson March, 2013 Instrumentation: Wind Ensemble – one per part, except: 2 tubas recommended, French Horns doubled Recommended: Rhythm percussion sit in the middle of the ensemble, or immediately in front of the conductor, where visible to audience. Percussion instruments needed: Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Cymb. a2 Claves, Djembe, Marimba, Triangle, Vibes, Bongos (or Dholak) Xylophone, Glock., Tambourine, Sus. Cymb. (if desired, the Dholak could replace the Bongos, using high/low sounds).

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1239680 Composed by David M. Stewart. March. Score and Parts. 92 pages. DMStewart Music #835071. Published by DMStewart Music (A0.1239680). This piece, The Palatka Port March, is intended to depict a little of the sense of life in the early years of Florida on the St. John’s River. It was once a target for ships venturing out to find the New World. It has been used to ferry barges and livestock. Some simply used it for sailing and transportation throughout the years, and some to catch fish to provide for themselves. The life on this river has been diverse, yet fulfilling over the years and will continue to be so in the future.   The melodies in this piece were taken from the shape of the St. Johns River from its upper point in Jacksonville, to where our part of the story ends in Palatka. Notice the falling and rising 8th note runs at the beginning, this represents the rise and the fall of the river as it enters Jacksonville from the Atlantic Ocean. The first strain is a linear, yet very regal melody where the heavy beats follow the contour of the river as it runs south. Here you can picture the ships coming from Europe across the ocean and the excitement they felt when they reached it. The second strain is more playful and represents the life that the river has provided for people for centuries. The Trio represents the calmness and civility when Palatka was discovered, and the happiness the settlers must have felt knowing they had found their perfect place to call home. The break strain represents the hard work and efforts that were put forth to secure the land and build a community. There would have been many triumphs and many successes, but the journey would have not been easy. The final strain is the culmination of the piece. This is the celebration and the feeling of personal nobility that all of the settlers felt after taking a river and dirt and building a city. I hope you enjoy, The Palatka Port March!

(2023). The song was written by the band members with James Abrahart, Jason Evigan, Rami Yacoub and Sarah Hudson, with production by Fabrizio Ferraguzzo, during a recording session in Los Angeles, California. The Loneliest was performed live for the first time during the group's performance at Underworld in London on 6 October 2022.The frontman Damiano David talked about the meaning of the song:  The song is somewhere between a love letter and a will. I wrote it at a very difficult time in my life, when I was away from home and the people I love. The idea is: what would I want to say to these people if I were to die? It talks about feelings that everyone can relate to, and we would love to understand how different people understand the lyrics. We are happy that we were able to take some time to write a lot of new music. We chose to come out with this single because it shows a side of us that people haven't seen yet and we wanted to start our new journey from here..
