The Esplanade is a musical image of the St. Kilda Esplanade on a windy winter day in the middle of August. Throughout the music, I try to represent the movement of the water and the wind, and the turning of the tide. This piece utilises binary form to create two specific images from the day. The first part is driving along the esplanade observing the wind and the waves, as well as the occasional landmark (i.e.: Luna Park, the sea baths, and the St. Kilda beach). The particular memory that remains in mind is the significant number of jellyfish that had beached themselves on the shoreline: dying on the sand, completely helpless.

Krebs Trio ♫ for Concert Band with Flexible Instrumentation ♫ by Johann Ludwig Krebs (1713-1780) ♫ arranged by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ Johann Krebs was the son of a well-known organist. Krebs studied organ and composition with JS Bach and was highly commended by him. He was one of the most technically gifted young organists of his day, yet was never employed by a major church. Krebs held modest positions all of his life and he and his family of seven children struggled with poverty. ♫ Although underpaid according to his ability and training, Krebs produced a large body of work – 193 known scores. His compositions are judged to be of prime quality, superior enough for scholars to argue whether a piece was composed by him or Bach. His Toccata and Fugue in E for organ is counted one of the masterpieces in Baroque literature. His 2 concertos for lute show that he must have been an accomplished lute player. Krebs was born, studied, lived, & composed in or near Upper Saxony (much like Bach). ♫ Teaching band in a small school, I often needed flexible instrumentation to assure satisfaction for students when a full complement of instruments was not available. This Baroque work from pipe organ literature has been scored for 3 independent polyphonic voices plus an optional percussion part. This piece can be played with almost any combination of instruments or as a trio or quartet. I added an optional hand drum part so percussionists can also participate. Krebs Trio has been performed by my mid level band and a quintet of music educators at a school music benefit concert, and the fanfa at North Haiti Music Camp. ♫ Purchase price includes permission is granted to make photocopies of parts additional scores for a medium size school band.

The full score has been revised and groups instruments in an easier to read format. The percussion are optional but add an additionally rich sonority and texture. The Hallelujah Chorus from George Frideric Handel's Messiah has been a significant part of my musical journey, starting with my high school choir's annual holiday performances. Now, as an educator, I’m proud to continue this tradition with my own students. This arrangement for Concert Band and Choir allows us to explore the piece in a new way, blending the familiar choral lines with the dynamic power of a full band. Handel composed the Messiah in just 24 days in 1741, and the Hallelujah Chorus quickly became one of its most iconic pieces. Tradition has it that King George II was so moved during the London premiere that he stood up, leading the audience to follow suit—an act that began the custom of standing during the chorus that continues to this day. The soundtrack was released on 21 July 2023, the same day as the film's theatrical release in the United States. At the 66th Annual Grammy Awards it won Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media, and at the 96th Academy Awards was nominated for Best Original Score. While the film is a period piece and Göransson used instrumentation that fitted with the 1940s, he also wanted the score to feel timeless, choosing to infuse the traditional orchestra with synthesizers; he and Nolan also chose not to include drums in the score at the risk of it feeling militaristic, instead incorporating percussive elements such as foot stomping, ticking, and Geiger counter static - 'Fusion' has been arranged from the score with the traditional concert band in mind, but adding extra woodwind depth with contrabassoon and contrabass clarinet; if your string bass player tunes down to low C, that will help to create the menacing atmosphere of the original.
