Published by Ayotte Custom Musical Engravings (A0.733031). The Circus Bee is a circus march written by Henry Fillmore of Cincinnati, Ohio in February 1908. Because of its complexity and advanced writing, it is sometimes used as either an opener or an encore piece in band concerts. The Circus Bee was a celebration of sorts for the fact that Henry Fillmore and his father, who managed their publishing business in Cincinnati, finally agreed that the young composer could publish his music at home, even though it did not meet the elder Fillmore's standard of being religious music. It was during this period of conflict between father and son that Henry, showing defiance to his father for not repenting his desire to write marches, reportedly told him, I will huff and I will puff, and I will continue to write marches. This alleged statement by the younger Fillmore gave birth to one of his many composing pseudonyms, Will Huff. The march is named after an imaginary circus newspaper and reflects Fillmore's lifelong interest in circuses and his varied experiences while touring with five different big top shows where he played the trombone. He was also famous for his many trombone marches, such as Bones Trombone, Teddy Trombone and the famous Lassus Trombone, all showcasing the trombone glissando, or smear, caused by moving the trombone slide in and out while playing the instrument (usually loud).

M45 is the Messier catalog number for an open star cluster better known as the Pleiades. Oot-kwa-tah is dedicated to Schenectady County Community College on the forty-fifth anniversary of the college’s establishment as part of the State University of New York. The college sits on land that was once part of the Mohawk nation of the Iroquois Confederacy. Oot-kwa-tah is inspired by the Iroquois legend of M45, the Pleiades star cluster. The Iroquois tell a story about seven children who met each day and danced for hours at a time instead of doing chores. An old man appeared to them one day as they danced. He shone magnificently like silver and was clad from head to toe in brilliant white feathers. The old man warned them to stop dancing lest something terrible happen to them. Ignoring the old man’s warning and growing more and more hungry and lightheaded the children began to rise into the air. If only they had listened to me, the old man thought. As the children’s parents gathered, one little boy heard his father’s voice below. The little boy looked down and saw his father. At that instant he fell back to earth. The other children continued to float higher and higher into the sky to become the Pleiades star cluster.The Iroquois call them Oot-kwa-tah and are reminded of these reckless children each time they see a falling star.

Since I was a child I've looked up at the sky and seen a world full of wonder, beauty, and mystery. The same wonder that filled my heart when I was in elementary school still takes hold when I look up now, decades later. I chose the formation of things for a specific reason. When I was a kid I had a habit of asking my parents where everything came from. It wasn't enough that a star was there, I needed to know how it got there and if possible why it was there. As I grew up I developed an immense appetite for almost all things science and history and with that came some of the answers I needed. The reality of how these things came to be was so much more interesting and astounding than my imagination that all these years later I am still captivated by the idea of an exploding star or the Big Bang. So lets take a journey, you and I. First we'll see the death of an immense star and watch as its own gravity rips it apart and forms a black hole. We'll see it feed on matter and light around it until it too finally dies. Next we'll go back 13.7 billion years and watch as tiny particles dance in and out of existence in the endless nothingness that once was. We'll see one of these tiny bits expand in an instant and give rise to everything that ever has been or will be. Watch hydrogen form and gravity pull it into the first stars. Those stars will form galaxies and we'll see glimpses of the Universe as it exists now. Finally, we will travel to the end of time, a trillion years or more into the future. There we will witness the dissipation of the galaxies, the death of stars, and the final moments as even tiny electrons are pulled apart into the nothing from which we all came. Parts of this piece are violent, but we will see that at the end of time, the formation of nothing is just as beautiful as the formation of a star. Everything has its time and everything ends. A Concert band or large ensemble arrangement with the Slash Guitar solo of this awesome song by Guns N' Roses as a versatile option that can be performed with or without the added rhythm section. It is transcribed from the Album version so has the extra section in the middle which allows a true to the original performance with the full guitar solo. The original key of Db does pose a challenge for band members which transposed down to C and the arrangement for sale was performed with great success this summer to 800 people for an event with great results. It was easier to have the Lead guitarist down tune their guitar making it easier to learn quickly as a band. Many arrangements simply put in a repeat using the same music but this is a full arrangement encompassing the original song as close as possible. The rhythm section is fully written out for those musicians that don't read chords which are also included for more advanced musicians. The solo Guitar part is in the audio but there are more in depth transcriptions available from online sheet music Guitar specialist websites that will be a more accurate version. Youngstown is a city in Ohio near the state’s border with Pennsylvania which fueled America's burgeoning industrial revolution with its steel manufacturing. After World War II, however, Youngstown began a slow economic decline as its economy failed to diversify. This culminated on “Black Monday,” September 19, 1977, when several steel plants shut down, destroying over 5,000 jobs overnight, and tens of thousands more in the coming months.This piece attempts to capture the history and spirit of Youngstown through the multifaceted textures of the wind band. With light flowing textures representing the city's beginnings as an iron mining town to harsher, industrial sounds for its height of influence, both give way to the devastation of Black Monday. Despite this, a melodic throughline permeates the darkness, representing the survival of the soul of Youngstown.Youngstown is a challenging, soulful, and emotional piece that should be playable by varsity-level high school bands and college wind ensembles. Feelings of infinite movement can be expressed musically and it seemed to me that one of the ways to do this was to end this work on a repeated phrase played in a long perdendosi, to give the impression that one is hearing the echoes of the finished phrase as the instruments stop playing. I had just started to write this work when I received a note for the Paris Observatory which gave me the news that the astronomical community had decided to name a newly discovered asteroid for Jean-Pierre Luminet. When I wrote to Jean-Pierre to congratulate him on this honour, reminding him with the Petit Prince that not everyone has their own star, I asked him if he would accept that I name this work for concert band with the full name of his asteroid: 5523 Luminet 1991 PH8. Jean-Pierre accepted my proposition by return letter : ..., not only do I not have any objection, but I would be very honoured. To be in the celestial spheres in the form of a rock and also in the form of music, what more could one ask for?
