Giacommo Puccini, represents the union of Italian and German opera traditions, greatly influenced by Verdi, of whom he is considered his successor, and also by Wagner, Bizet, and Debussy. The main feature of his style was the eclecticism, the incorporation and assimilation of various languages and resources in his profession. Many of the musical concepts, as well as the connection between music and the stage, were the harbinger of what would rule in film music a few decades later. Puccini tooks from the French opera, under the influence of Bizet and Massenet, the taste for the exotic and historical location of his operas. In the case of Turandot, set in ancient China, the opera tells the story of the cruel princess Turandot who, in revenge for a sullied ancestor, beheads her suitors if three riddles are not answered. An unknown prince –Calaf– postulates by answering her three enigmas and challenging her to be the one to find out her name. Turandot orders that no one sleep in Peking until the name of the prince is known, Calaf, who has issued the challenge that if his name is not discovered, princess Turandot must marry him. At the beginning of the third act, the prince sings the aria –Nessun Dorma– convinced that the princess's efforts to discover his name will be in vain. Puccini began the composition in January 1921 and in March 1924 he had already completed the opera up to the final duet. However, a few months later he would pass away, leaving unfinished sketches of the end of Turandot. Franco Alfano was commissioned to finish it, premiering it two years later, in 1926. Currently, it is the fourth most performed Puccini opera worldwide, after the well-known trio La Boheme, Tosca and Madama Butterfly.

Considered a leading composer of the late Romantic and early modern eras, he has been described as a successor of Richard Wagner and Franz Liszt. Along with Gustav Mahler, he represents the late flowering of German Romanticism, in which pioneering subtleties of orchestration are combined with an advanced harmonic style.Der Rosenkavalier (The Knight of the Rose or The Rose-Bearer), Op. 59, is a comic opera in three acts by Richard Strauss to an original German libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal. It is loosely adapted from Louvet de Couvrai's novel Les amours du chevalier de Faublas and Molière's comedy Monsieur de Pourceaugnac.In 1945 Strauss allowed an orchestral Rosenkavalier Suite to be published, but apparently was not involved in creating it. It is likely that conductor Artur Rodziński arranged it, as he conducted the suite's first performance, in October 1944 by the New York Philharmonic.The suite begins with the opera's orchestral prelude, depicting the Marschallin's and Octavian's night of passion (vividly portrayed by whooping horns and saxophones). Next comes the appearance of Octavian as the Rosenkavalier, depicted in tender music; the sight of him looking so young makes the Marschallin realise that he will soon leave her for a younger woman. There follows the duet between Octavian and Sophie – in which their love for each other becomes ever more obvious, but this is abruptly interrupted by the discordant music associated with Ochs's clumsy arrival. Next the violins tentatively introduce the first waltz, followed by another given out by the solo violin, before the whole orchestra settles into waltz mode. A general pause and a violin solo leads into the nostalgic music where the Marschallin sadly realises she has lost Octavian. Then comes its ecstatic climax. The work closes with a singularly robust waltz, depicting Ochs at his most pompous, and a boisterous coda newly composed for the suite.The PDF contains the Full Score and a full set of parts.

Louis Adolphe Mayeur (1837 - 1894), was a Belgium clarinetist, saxophonist, composer and conductor who spent most of his musical career in France; Entering the French Military in 1855, he was a clarinetist in the Second Régiment of the Cuirassiers (Mounted Calvary) of the Garde Impériale. A student of Klosé at the Paris Conservatory, he received his First Prize in Clarinet in 1860. One of the inner circle of Adolphe Sax (along with fellow Belgiums Jules Demersseman and Jean-Baptiste Singelée, whose “Quartet for Saxophones“ was premièred with Mayeur playing and Demersseman conducting), Mayeur took up the saxophone and was quickly engaged as the saxophone soloist in the Opera House of Brussels, La Monnaie (the Mint). Sax commissioned a number of works from Mayeur for the saxophone, which were published by his company and used in his class at the Paris Conservatory.By 1871, Mayeur was also named Saxophone Solo with the Paris Opera, performing in opears and ballets by Halévy, Meyerbeer, Thomas, Saint-Saens, Massenet, Délibes and Paladlihe. It would appear that sometime during this period, his relations with Sax became difficult, culminating in his publications of works by Buffet-Crampon, one of Sax’s rival companies and one of the main protagonists in the series of lawsuits which led to Sax’s bankrupcy. Mayeur’s own declining health lead to his death in 1894.The Grande Fantaisie de Concert sur Rigoletto dates from 1877. The contrasting sections use motifs from arias and duets from Verdi’s opera. Florid cadenzas seperate the various sections, but those passages should be played in the manner of “bel canto†ornamentation, always lyrical and songlike. This is the score and solo part only for the concert band version. Versions are available from Musik Fabrik for piano, for Symhony Orchestra (on rental : 2222/2000/Timp/hp/strings) and for Concert Band (for sale). North Macedonia (known as Macedonia before February 2019), officially the Republic of North Macedonia, is a country in Southeast Europe. It gained independence in 1991 as one of the successor states of Yugoslavia. It is a landlocked country bordering Kosovo to the northwest, Serbia to the north, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south, and Albania to the west. Both the music and lyrics date from the early 1940s. The music was composed by Todor Skalovski, one of Macedonia's most distinguished composers who also served as the conductor of its opera. The title means “Today over Macedonia†(is born the new sun of liberty…†This quick and easy national anthem arrangement is essential for traveling musicians, bands, instrumental and school groups and both amateur and professional ensembles. This arrangement is convenient to use and you can play it with any virtually any combination of conventional instruments found in the band or orchestra. The arrangement can be used with symphonic band, clarinet choir, brass ensemble, brass band, solos, duets and trios - almost anything! The score and parts are presented in a single 34-page PDF file. This arrangement is in six independent parts each transposed into a variety of keys. For the most satisfying sound you will need to get a good balance between each part possibly with an emphasis on the melodic line. If you have a non-standard ensemble, you can pick and mix as required. The piano reduction can fill missing parts or can be used as the basis for an accompaniment. The following parts are available: Part 1 in B flat, E flat and C; Part 1a in C (8ve higher), E flat (minor 3rd lower for E flat cornet); Part 2 in B flat, E flat and C; Part 2a in C, (8ve higher) E flat (minor 3rd lower for alto clarinet); Part 3 in B flat, E flat, C and F; Part 3a in B flat (8ve lower for 3rd clarinets); Part 4 in B flat, E flat, C and F; Part 5 in B flat and C: Part 6 in B flat, C and E flat.
