This fanfare, however, is geared mostly toward  Woodwinds. The brass takes background and counter-melody, while woodwinds take melody.  There are, however, several sections where the brass takes the wheel! At the end, a standard brass chorale ends the composition, with woodwinds giving off the final ounce of melodic content. The fanfare is supposed to be as magnificent as the person who it is dedicated to.

But it also refers to the musical interval of a fourth. All of the themes in the piece are built, in some way, around the interval of a fourth. The composition of the piece actually began as a musical idea - piling up fourths and resolving to a major chord. That idea led to the title of the piece and the decision to make the interval of a fourth a prominent feature of all the themes.To convey the idea of fireworks, I used rising sixteenth-note runs in the high woodwinds, followed by a cymbal crash. That pattern appears at the opening, at the ending, and at one other point in the piece. To convey the idea of games, I used a playful theme stated by a solo trumpet and piccolo and repeated in the woodwinds; the second half of the theme is a counterpoint within sections. The patriotic music is suggested by two different kinds of themes - two anthem-like themes (think of America the Beautiful or God Bless America) and a vigorous march, which is introduced in the middle of the piece and repeated near the end. The piece opens and ends with the idea that led to its creation - piling up fourths and resolving to a major chord - accompanied by the sixteenth-note runs in the high woodwinds and the cymbal crash.

SPRING FOUNTAINS MARCH is a fun, exci􀆟ng concert march for young bands. With tutti syncopation and lots of flourishes, the band will be able to express the joy of spring as fountains in the park start up again.Woodwinds—Only the clarinet part is split throughout. The alto sax has a couple of split measures to reinforce the trills but supports the horn line for the rest of the march. The tenor sax supports the horn part when the altos have the trills. The ranges are within most 1st-year players and easily within 2nd-year players range. The 2nd Clarinet never goes above the break. The trills for all woodwinds (fountains) are easy trills for younger players.Brass—Only the trumpet part is split and it is rhythmically unison throughout. Low brass/woodwinds are mostly entirely unison throughout the piece. Like the WW’s, all parts are playable by 1st-year players. Percussion uses a standard concert march instrumentation.
