Full Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.1008418 Composed by Manuel de Falla. Arranged by Arkady Leytush. 20th Century. Score and parts. 23 pages. Arkady Leytush #6440739. Published by Arkady Leytush (A0.1008418). This remarkably colorful part gives great pleasure with its liberation, colorfulness and originality of the Spanish and Cuban musical traditions. Written in three-part form, this music in particular is notable for its peculiar rhythms and metric comparisons. If in the 1st and last parts I use quite recognizable percussion instruments such as: Triangle, Snare Drum, Castanets, Cymbals, Gong, which indicates more Spanish traditions in classical music, then in the middle part it is mostly Cuban folk music, colored and emphasized by such percussion as: Claves, Cowbell, Bongo and Conga Drums. Undoubtedly, the percussion instruments in this part of my transcription are a very recognizable element, but not the only one that can be determined with careful listening.

Full Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.1008374 Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Arkady Leytush. 20th Century. Score and parts. 24 pages. Arkady Leytush #4849775. Published by Arkady Leytush (A0.1008374). Estampes (Engravings) is the title of the triptych of three pieces which Debussy put together in 1903. The first complete performance was given on 9 January 1904 in the Salle Erard, Paris, by the young Spanish pianist Ricardo Viñes, who was already emerging as the prime interpreter of the new French music of Debussy and Ravel. The first two pieces were completed in 1903, but the third derives from an earlier group of pieces from 1894, collectively titled Images, which remained unpublished until 60 years after Debussy’s death, when they were printed as Images (oubliées). Estampes marks an expansion of Debussy’s keyboard style: he was apparently spurred to fuse neo-Lisztian technique with a sensitive, impressionistic pictorial impulse under the impact of discovering Ravel’s Jeux d’eau, published in 1902. The opening movement, ‘Pagodes’, is Debussy’s first pianistic evocation of the Orient and is essentially a fixed contemplation of its object, as in a Chinese print. This static impression is partly caused by Debussy’s use of long pedal-points, partly by his almost constant preoccupation with pentatonic melodies which subvert the sense of harmonic movement. He uses such pentatonic fragments in many different ways: in delicate arabesques, in two-part counterpoint, in canon, harmonized in fourths and fifths and as an underpinning for pattering, gamelan-like ostinato writing. Altogether the piece reflects the decisive impression made on him by hearing Javanese and Cambodian musicians at the 1889 Paris Exposition, which he had striven for years to incorporate effectively in music. In its final bars the music begins to dissolve into elaborate filigree.Just as ‘Pagodes’ was his first Oriental piece, so ‘La soirée dans Grenade’ was the first of Debussy’s evocations of Spain-that preternatural embodiment of an ‘imaginary Andalusia’ which would inspire Manuel de Falla, the native Spaniard, to go back to his country and create a true modern Spanish music based on Debussyan principles. Debussy’s personal acquaintance with Spain was virtually non-existent (he had spent a day just over the border at San Sebastian) and it is possible that one model for the piece was Ravel’s Habanera. Yet he wrote of this piece (to his friend Pierre Louÿs, to whom it was dedicated), ‘if this isn’t the music they play in Granada, so much the worse for Granada!’-and there is no debate about the absolute authenticity of Debussy’s use of Spanish idioms here. Falla himself pronounced it ‘characteristically Spanish in every detail’. ‘La soirée dans Grenade’ is founded on an ostinato that echoes the rhythm of the habanera and is present almost throughout. Beginning and ending in almost complete silence, this dark nocturne of warm summer nights builds powerfully to its climaxes. The melodic material ranges from a doleful Moorish chant with a distinctly oriental character to a stamping, vivacious dance-measure, taking in brief suggestions of guitar strumming and perfumed Impressionist haze. There is even a hint of castanets near the end. The piece fades out in a coda that seems to distil all the melancholy of the Moorish theme and a last few distant chords of the guitar. ‘Jardins sous la pluie’ is based on the children’s song ‘Nous n’rons plus au bois’ (We shan’t go to the woods): its original 1894 form was in fact entitled Quelques aspects de ‘Nous n’rons plus au bois’. The two versions are really two distinct treatments of the same set of ideas, but in ‘Jardins sous la pluie’ Estampes the earlier piece has been entirely rethought. The whole conception is more impressionistic, and subtilized. The teeming semiquaver motion is more all-pervasive, the tunes (for Debussy has added a second children’s song for treatment, ‘Do, do, l’enfant do’) more elusive and tinged sometimes with melancholy or nostalgia. The ending of the piece is entirely new. What it loses, perha.

Star Trek is an American science fiction media franchise originating from the 1960s television series Star Trek, created by Gene Roddenberry. That series, now often known as "The Original Series", debuted on September 8, 1966, and aired for three seasons on NBC. It followed the voyages of the starship USS Enterprise, a space exploration vessel built by the United Federation of Planets in the 23rd century, on a mission "to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before". In creating Star Trek, Roddenberry was inspired by C. S. Forester'sHoratio Horn blower series of novels, Jonathan Swift's 1726 novel Gulliver's Travels, the 1956 film Forbidden Planet, and television westerns such asWagon Train.<br> <br> The Star Trek canon includes the Original Series, nine spin-off television series, and a film franchise; further adaptations also exist in several media. After the conclusion of the Original Series, the adventures of its characters continued in the 22-episode Star Trek: The Animated Series and six feature films. A television revival beginning in the 1980s saw three sequel series and a prequel: Star Trek: The Next Generation, following the crew of a new starshipEnterprise a century after the original series; Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager, set in the same era as the Next Generation; andEnterprise, set before the original series in the early days of human interstellar travel. The adventures of the Next Generation crew continued in four additional feature films. In 2009, the film franchise underwent a reboot, creating an alternate continuity known as the Kelvin timeline; three films have been set in this continuity. The newest Star Trek television revival, beginning in 2017, includes the series Star Trek: Discovery, Picard, Short Treks, and Lower Decks, streaming exclusively on digital platforms. At least two additional television series are in development: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Prodigy.<br> <br> Taken from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek

Full Orchestra - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Manuel de Espinosa de los Monteros (1730-1810). Arranged by Keith Terrett. Classical Period, European, Patriotic. 30 pages. Published by Music for all Occasions
The Spanish National Anthem arranged for full Symphony Orchestra, there is a short version in my store in case you need it! Just need a sporting event now such as an Olympics!<br> <br> The Marcha Real (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈmartʃa reˈal], "Royal March") is the national anthem of Spain. It is one of only three national anthems (along with that of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Kosovo) in the world to have no official lyrics.<br> <br> One of the oldest in the world, the anthem was first printed in a document dated 1761 and entitled Libro de la Ordenanza de los Toques de Pífanos y Tambores que se tocan nuevamente en la Ynfant° Española (Book of the Ordenance of Newly Played Military Drum and Fife Calls by The Spanish Infantry ), by Manuel de Espinosa. Here it is entitled La Marcha Granadera ("March of the Grenadiers"). There is written its score on this book. According to this document, Manuel de Espinosa de los Monteros is the composer.<br> <br> There is a false belief that Marcha Real’s author was Frederick II of Prussia, a great lover of music. This belief started in 1861 when it appears for the first time publied in La España militar (The Militar Spain). In 1864, the colonel Antonio Vallecillo publishes the history in the diary El Espíritu Público (The Public Spirit), making the supposed Prussian origin of Marcha Real popular. According to Vallecillo, the anthem was a gift from Frederick II to the soldier Juan Martín Álvarez de Sotomayor, who was serving in the Prussian Court to learn the military tactics developed by Frederick II’s army, under orders of King Charles III. In 1868 the history is published in Los Sucesos, changing the destinatary of the gift with Pedro Pablo Abarca de Bolea, Count of Aranda. The myth was picked up like this in different publications of 1884 and 1903, until being included in 1908 in the Enciclopedia Espasa.<br> <br> According to the tradition in 1770, Charles III declared the Marcha de Granaderos as the official Honor March, and with that formalized the habit of playing it in public and solemn acts. It became the official anthem during Isabel II’s reign.<br> <br> After the 1868 Revolution, General Prim convoked a national contest to create an official anthem, but it was declared deserted, advising the jury that Marcha de Granaderos was considered as such. By Alfonso XIII’s time, it was established by a Royal Circular Order (27 August 1908) that interpreted the harmonization of the march done by Bartolomé Pérez Casas, Major Music of the Royal Corps of Halberdier Guards. During the Second Republic, Himno de Riego was adopted as official anthem, although after the Spanish Civil War, Marcha Real returned to be used as anthem, sometimes sung with the verses written by the poet José María Pemán in 1928.<br> <br> The actual symphonic version of the Marcha Real that replaces the Pérez Casas one, belongs to maestro Francisco Grau and is the official one after the Royal Decree of 10 October 1997, when the Kingdom of Spain bought the author rights of the Marcha Real, then belonging to Pérez Casas’ Heirs. According to the Royal Decree 1560/1997, the anthem should have a tone of B major and a tempo of 76 bpm (♩=76), with a form of AABB and a duration of 52 seconds.<br> <br> Under the Trienio Liberal (1820-1823), the First Spanish Republic (1873–74) (when it enjoyed of a co-officiality) and the Second Spanish Republic (1931–1939), El Himno de Riego replaced La Marcha Real as the national anthem of Spain. At the conclusion of the Civil War, however, Francisco Franco restored La Marcha Real as the country’s national anthem, under its old title of La Marcha Granadera.<br> <br> Interpretation and etiquette:<br> <br> Military bands of the Spanish Armed Forces and the National Police Corps of Spain and civilian Marching bands and Concert bands play the B flat-major version of the anthem adapted for wind bands (as arranged by Francisco Grau), and playing the A Major version is optional.<br> <br> The bugle call "To the Colors" in Spain is the version played by Bugle bands in Spanish churches in religious occasions and processions organized by civil groups and the parishes. Various versions adapted for the drum and the bugle are used, even though brass instruments play the anthem as well. But in some bugle bands, the A flat version of the anthem (the old official one, adapted for the bugle) is played. Only a bugle call is sounded when the B flat version is played.<br> <br> Being the National Anthem, and in honor of the King and Queen of Spain, it’s a common practice for all to stand once it is played. Even though it is also played in church events, respect for the King and Queen (and the Royal Family as well) is required by everyone in attendance. As it happens civilians stand at attention while those in uniform salute when not in formation.<br> <br> The current official version, as described in Royal Decree 1560/1997, is a sixteen-bar long phrase, divided in two sections, each one is made up of four repeated bars (AABB form). Tempo is set to ♩= 76 and key to B flat.<br> <br> The long, complete version is the honors music for the King, while a shorter version without the repetitions is performed for the President of the Government of Spain, the Prince of Asturias, or during sporting events.<br> <br> There are also three official arrangements: one for orchestra, another for military band, and a third for organ, written by Francisco Grau Vegara and requested by the Government of Spain. All in all, there are six different official adaptations, for each arrangement and length. They all were recorded by the Spanish National Orchestra and the Spanish Royal Guard Band as an official recording and released on compact disc for a limited period of time.<br> <br> As the harmonization of the Marcha Real was written by Bartolomé Pérez Casas in the early 1900s, the copyright has not yet expired. The government bought it from Pérez Casas’ estate in 1997 for 130,000,000 pesetas (~ € 781,316) to avoid future legal problems. Until it expires, the copyright belongs to the Ministry of Culture and collecting societies charge copyright fees, which has led to criticism.<br> <br> As a result, many different harmonisations have been devised by performers to avoid paying. Nonetheless, the rights to the 1997 Francisco Grau revision were transferred to the government at no charge, although they were not placed in the public domain.<br> <br> Need an anthem fast? They are ALL in my store! All my anthem arrangements are also available for Orchestra, Recorders, Saxophones, Wind, Brass and Flexible band. If you need an anthem urgently for an instrumentation not in my store, let me know via e-mail, and I will arrange it for you FOC if possible! keithterrett@gmail.com

Full Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.750708 Composed by Brendan Elliget. Contemporary. Score and parts. 108 pages. BJE Music #3424551. Published by BJE Music (A0.750708). Shades of Eltham (Eltham Concert Band - 35 Years of Music) - Orchestral VersionDedicated to Ern and Beattie Shade for their contribution to the Eltham Concert Band. The title of this piece is a play on words, of course, indicating both the Shades themselves and the various shades or moods of the music or even perhaps, the shady bushland setting of the area itself. I composed this piece with a few simple ideas in mind. The letters E and A in the word Eltham suggested to me an interval of a fourth, or the other way around, an interval of a fifth – which are both used in many of entries of the themes and musical motifs throughout the work – especially the brass. There are several variations and counter melodies within the work: a bright two-four march-like theme, probably the Main theme, and a variation of this theme in slower three-four time in a minor key with two counter melodies - representing a gentler contrasting mood. On occasions, two or even three themes play simultaneously. A bridging passage in four-four occurs about two-thirds of the way into the composition leading up to a restatement of the main theme. The final climax or Coda actually has both three four melody against the two-four one resolving in the last few bars in a dramatic way. I hope you enjoy my musical tribute to the Shades. The MP3 has been recorded with Note Performer.Grade = 4 Duration = 7:20 Mins

"We Are the Champions" is a song by the British rock band Queen, first released on their 1977 album News of the World. Written by lead singer Freddie Mercury, it is considered one of rock's most recognisable anthems. The song was a worldwide success, reaching number two in the UK Singles Chart, number four on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, number three in Canada and the top ten in many other countries. In 2009, "We Are the Champions" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and was voted the world's favourite song in a 2005 Sony Ericsson world music poll. In 2011, a team of scientific researchers concluded that the song was the catchiest in the history of popular music.<br> <br> "We Are the Champions" has become an anthem for victories at sporting events, including as an official theme song for the 1994 FIFA World Cup, and has been often used or referenced in popular culture. The song has also been covered by many artists.<br> <br> On 7 October 2017, Queen released a Raw Sessions version of the track to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of News of the World. It was made from previously unheard vocal and instrumental takes from the original multi-track tapes. It also presents for the first time the original recorded length of the track, which is two choruses more than the 1977 edited single.

Program note: My love affair with the city of Rome dates back to the year 1986-87 when I spent just under eleven months at the American Academy in Rome on a Rome Prize Fellowship. During that Fellowship year I was very much inspired by the beauty and culture of the Eternal City, which resulted in a number of works that continue to resonate with me: Twenty-nine Fireflies Book II for solo piano; Concertino for trumpet, timpani and strings; Apples … six dreams by Richard Kenney; String Quartet No 5 … Four Birthdays; and Chôrinhos … opus 38. Since 1997 my wife, Kristin Beckwith, and I have returned to the American Academy in Rome almost every year. I would compose in the morning and then my wife and I would go to our usual haunt at Bar G. for cappuccini and cornetti. And then we’d go to the local bakery and street markets and buy stuff for lunch. In the afternoon we would wander into the city to go shopping and sight-seeing. In the evenings we would dine at one of our favorite local trattorias. Life could not be better in Rome. Musically speaking, several important works in my portfolio had their beginnings during these sojourns at the Academy , among them Yo Picasso, Flauta Carioca, Mass for the Holy Year 2000, Symphony No. 5 … Utopia Parkway, Twenty-nine Fireflies Books IV & V, and Piano Concerto … Mozartiana. Just before the 2008 recession, clarinetist extraordinaire Jonathan Cohler asked me to write a symphony for the inaugural concert of a new orchestra he was planning to create. I came up with Symphony No. 7 … Roman Holidays, my give back to the city of Rome – a compendium of favorite places that continue to live in my thoughts and musings. Although the work is heard in four movements, it is actually divided into seven sections, as in the seven hills of Rome. 1. Prelude: Fontana Paola and the panoramic view of the city of Rome from that vantage point. 2. First interlude: La Befana festivities at Piazza Navona. The Protestant Cemetery in Testaccio at night under a full moon. 3. Second interlude: Fontana delle Tartughe in the Jewish Ghetto. Bernini’s Apollo and Daphne at the Galleria Borghese. 4. Third interlude: Bernini’s Beata Ludovica Albertoni in Trastevere. The Spanish Steps and the view of Rome from the French Academy at Villa Medici. NB: Unfortunately, thanks to the recession, Roman Holidays never saw the light of day. This year (2013) I decided to revisit the work, which lay dormant for 5 five years, and saw that it could use a little tweaking. The new version is essentially the same, musically speaking. I reduced the orchestration a bit (two horns instead of four, and two trumpets instead of three) and added more heft to the lower brass. I completely rewrote the tune for the floating foreign ghosts at the Protestant Cemetery. I also shortened the work by about three minutes by cutting some repeats. Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1148784 Composed by Rowland H Prichard. Arranged by Mark R Lewis. Christmas,Holiday,Religious. Score and Parts. 35 pages. Mark R Lewis #748921. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1148784). Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus is a lovely Advent hymn. The text was written by Charles Wesley and has been used in Advent services regularly since it was written in the 1740s. The text has been set to many tunes but the one used in this version is Hyfrydol, This tune was written by Rowland Prichard about 100 years after Wesley's text and is used extensively in many hymnals but especially for this particular text. This arrangement is for orchestra with optional 3-5 octave handbell choir. The handbell arrangement unusual in that the 4 octave version does require the use of the F3 bell. Other than that this is a relatively simple, if thickly orchestrated, arrangement. There are three sections using different methods of music making, the first is a fairly straightforward setting, the second focuses on short sounds in the melody which is also in the lower voices, and the third explores musical canon before bringing back a more traditional musical setting. There are two distinct parts for most instruments with a few splitting more. Flutes, trumpets, and trombones have three parts. The trombone 3 part is intended to be bass trombone but should be playable on regular trombone and if any section only has two divisions, the lower voice should have more players unless otherwise notated. That applies to flutes and trumpets as well. There are four horn parts that do not split. The timpani part should be playable on two drums with active pedaling to change notes mid-piece, although four drums is perfectly acceptable.

Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755101). Arizona Centennial Overture was commissioned by the Arizona Commission on the Arts as part of the Centennial Legacy Project to help celebrate Arizona’s centennial. There are three versions of the compositions, chamber orchestra, full orchestra, and band. The overture pays tribute to the unique blend of the various cultures that had a part in shaping Arizona into what it is today. This six and a half minute composition is divided into three main sections. The first section begins with fanfares that announce the celebration. After thirty seconds, the introduction fades into music that pays tribute to the pioneers that migrated to Arizona. The music has a rustic quality reflecting the pioneering spirit of the ranchers, farmers, miners, and merchants who came to Arizona seeking a better way of life. This section is intended to be inclusive as it is impossible to represent each culture individually in a short musical composition. The second section pays tribute to the various Native American cultures that are a large part of Arizona’s history and its present way of life. Flutes and percussion instruments are used in the beginning of this section to represent the Native American respect for nature. This quiet section evolves into a ceremonial dance that increases in intensity. Towards the end of this section one hears fragments of the pioneer melody as these culture come together. The third section is influenced by Mariachi music to recognize the Hispanic influence in Arizona. The first part uses an original rollicking tune with four beats to the measure over syncopation. The second part contains a lyrical melody with three beats to the measure accompanied by instruments playing accents that create the Hispanic sounding grouping of six notes into three groups of two alternating with two groups of three. A brief ending using the fanfares of celebration interspersed with figures from the Native American and pioneer sections brings the work to a rousing close. The score prints on legal size paper and the parts on letter.

Over the years I have written at least ten orchestral works for Max Hobart including three symphonies and four concertos for saxophone, violin, oboe and cello, respectively. So I was thrilled when Max asked me to write a concerto for trumpet virtuoso Stephen Burns and the Boston Civic Symphony Orchestra. I am familiar with Stephen Burns’ work as a piccolo trumpet player doing concertos from the baroque period. The color of his sound was already in my head. Stephen and I got together in the spring of 2104 and we discussed the project in some detail. We immediately agreed that the work would be in three movements. Each movement would feature a different trumpet: the trumpet in C for the first, the flugelhorn for the second and the piccolo for the last. I began work on the concerto at the end of August and finished it three months later. The work as mentioned earlier is in three movements: 1. Heraldic Beast … Allegro. 2. Bossa Nova in 7/4 … Adagio. 3. Perpetuo Moto … Presto! Enjoy!!!

Thomas Oboe Lee #33643. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869368). Instrumentation: 3232-4331-timp-2perc-pf-hp-strings. Program note. Nineteen ninety-eight marks the tenth anniversary of my plunge into the world of ballet. I continue to take classes three or four times a week. It's fun, athletic, and challenging. And I'm still working on the basic notion of spotting in my pirouettes ... So when Max Hobart of the Civic Symphony Orchestra of Boston agreed to premiere a new work of mine I knew it had to be a symphonic ballet. Coincidentally, I discovered that my favorite cartoonist, Edward Gorey, is also a balletomane. He lived in New York City between 1953 and 1986 and never missed a single performance of the New York City Ballet. Apparently his leaving New York to live permanently on Cape Cod was prompted by the death of George Balanchine in 1983. Among Edward Gorey's many books there is one, The Gilded Bat, about a young woman, Maud Splaytoe, and her adventures in the ballet world. She dies in the end when the plane she is in flies into a great, dark bird. Hmmm, I thought, The Gilded Bat would make a nice adagio movement. To complete the work, I found four other Gorey books that attracted me in mood and texture: The Nursery Frieze - dogs running across the edge of a nursery ceiling, barking out words whose sequence provides no sense or meaning, e.g., Archipelago, cardamon, obloquy, ignavia, samisen, bandages, wax, Gavelkind, ... ; The Raging Tide - a fantastical story about four creatures, Figbash, Hooglyboo, Naeelah and Skrump, who would not stop abusing each other; The Utter Zoo - an alphabet book of zoo animals of Edward Gorey's concoction, e.g., Ampoo, Boggerslosh, Crunk, Dawbis, Epitwee, ... ; and The Blue Aspic - a macabre story of a mad fan, Jasper Ankle, who stalks an opera diva, Ortenzia Caviglia. When he finally meets her at the stage-door after a performance, he stabs her in the throat and cries, J'ai trouvé Hortense! Symphony No. 2 ... A Phantasmagorey Ballet is in five movements: I. The Nursery Frieze, Con moto. II. The Gilded Bat Adagio: Pas seul for Mirella Splatova, aka Maud SplaytoeIII. The Raging Tide Presto: Pas de Quatre for Figbash, Hooglyboo, Naeelah and Skrump. IV. The Blue Aspic Allegro: Valzer alla Prokofiev ... Pas de deux for Jasper Ankle and Ortenzia Caviglia. V. The Utter Zoo Largo: Grand Funk Finale. This work is dedicated to my wife, Kristin Beckwith, whom I met ten years ago at the Boston Ballet, and who continues to be my one and only ballet teacher.Audio link: https://thomasoboelee.bandcamp.com/album/symphony-no-2-a-phantasmagorey-ballet-1998

Kevin Riley #864843. Published by Kevin Riley (A0.1272619). Unchained Melody is a 1955 song with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. North wrote the music as a theme for the prison film Unchained (1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers in 1965. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of Unchained Melody have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages. In 1955, three versions of the song (by Les Baxter, Al Hibbler, and Roy Hamilton) charted in the Billboard top 10 in the United States, and four versions (by Al Hibbler, Les Baxter, Jimmy Young, and Liberace) appeared in the top 20 in the United Kingdom simultaneously, a record for any song. The song continued to chart in the 21st century, and it was the only song to reach number one with four different recordings in the United Kingdom until it was joined by Band Aid 30's Do They Know It's Christmas? in 2014.Of the hundreds of recordings made, the Righteous Brothers' version, with a solo by Bobby Hatfield, became the jukebox standard after its release. Hatfield changed the melody in the final verse and many subsequent covers of the song are based on his version. The Righteous Brothers recording achieved a second round of great popularity when featured in the film Ghost in 1990. In 2004, it was number 27 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema.

Full orchestra - Grade 6 - Digital Download SKU: IZ.OMW072 Composed by Keith Dippre. Score and Parts. 239 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #OMW072. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.OMW072). 9 x 12 in inches.By Keith Dippre. Each of the three movements deals with symbols, specifically those that have autobiographical significance to the composer. The first movement, Klee on Loan, pays homage to the famous abstract expressionist painter. The gestures are traditional and all easily identifiable, from the sweeping Mahleresque beginning to the Bartok meets The Rolling Stones motifs found at mid movement. These are the composer's attempts to represent Klee's crosses and arrows through some familiar and abstract sound. Klee's genius, I believe, is found in his ability to make very generic symbols very abstract. The second movement, Roadside Memorial, is a musical journey that goes the route of a dangerous and ominous highway replete with roadside crosses and flowers. Present are the sounds of radio static and the motorist's attempts to find an interesting station in the midst of a punishing blizzard, all the while praying to make the trek safely home. Ikonoklastic is the third and least serious movement of the three, sporting a playful and somewhat schizophrenic waltz. There are childlike melodies set against more serious romantic style gestures. The blending of the serious with the less serious at times combines to create contrapuntal moments. The final movement is the most sublime of the four, and it is solely based upon a loping, adieu-like gesture. The line is continually recycling itself, and the piano takes the role of psychopomp as it escorts the movement to its out of body conclusion.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926712 Composed by James E. Goodwin. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 238 pages. James Goodwin #5996663. Published by James Goodwin (A0.926712). Scenes from the Sea is a suite in five movements for full orchestra, each of which lasts approximately three minutes, except for the last movement which lasts five minutes. Movement One, entitled Schools of Fish, is a brisk opener that symbolizes the sea as a whole, teeming with life. Movement Two is called Shipwrecks. The music is contemplative and represents the multitude of ships that rest at the bottom of the sea, many of which are the graves of brave sailors. Movement Three is a march called Fighting Crabs, and is about two crabs who fight to the death for food. In Movement Four, The Abyss, the listener descends to the depths, whereupon he/she finds a peaceful rest. The last movement, A Squall, begins calmly, but a foreboding storm in the distance threatens to takes away the calm. The Navy Hymn, Eternal Father, Strong to Save, is heard just before the storm strikes. Finally, the calmness returns and the piece ends triumphantly. Scores and parts are included for full orchestra, including piano. Full program notes are available from the composer.

This CD contains Mark O'Connor's latest orchestral works: Americana Symphony Variations on Appalachia Waltz(2006) and Concerto No. 6 Old Brass (2003). Sony Classical//BMG label director Gilbert Hetherwick explains; Dvorak and Copland painted symphonic landscapes using melodies inspired by the Americana tradition, and Mark O'Connor actually comes from that tradition itself. He's lived it every day of his life. And you hear it in every note of his Americana Symphony. For the majority of his solo career, O'Connor has dedicated himself to composing for orchestra: he has written six full-length concertos, several orchestral suites and string orchestra compositions, and most recently his first Symphony.David Wallace, Juilliard School faculty member and Senior Teaching Artist with the New York Philharmonic, comments on the overall characteristics of O'Connor's music: The Americana Symphony combines historical narrative with classical and folk variation principles. The Symphony contains instrumental virtuosity, rhythmic drive, poignant lyricism, and probing counterpoint. With the Americana Symphony, Mark O'Connor provides his answer to a question that has intrigued U. S. composers since the debut of Dvorak's New World Symphony in 1892: How do you write the great American Symphony?William Intrilligator, artistic director of the Dubuque Symphony, conducted one of the first performances of the Americana Symphony: Very few pieces of new music have the same emotional and visceral effect as this Symphony, he writes. It has such power and beauty, and these traits are expressed in original ways that are pure O'Connor and truly American.Marin Alsop, artistic director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and this recording's conductor of the Americana Symphony, calls the Symphony simply A hit!
