Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926712 Composed by James E. Goodwin. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 238 pages. James Goodwin #5996663. Published by James Goodwin (A0.926712). Scenes from the Sea is a suite in five movements for full orchestra, each of which lasts approximately three minutes, except for the last movement which lasts five minutes. Movement One, entitled Schools of Fish, is a brisk opener that symbolizes the sea as a whole, teeming with life. Movement Two is called Shipwrecks. The music is contemplative and represents the multitude of ships that rest at the bottom of the sea, many of which are the graves of brave sailors. Movement Three is a march called Fighting Crabs, and is about two crabs who fight to the death for food. In Movement Four, The Abyss, the listener descends to the depths, whereupon he/she finds a peaceful rest. The last movement, A Squall, begins calmly, but a foreboding storm in the distance threatens to takes away the calm. The Navy Hymn, Eternal Father, Strong to Save, is heard just before the storm strikes. Finally, the calmness returns and the piece ends triumphantly. Scores and parts are included for full orchestra, including piano. Full program notes are available from the composer.

Antonello Rizzella #962412. Published by Antonello Rizzella (A0.1377811). The author's intent was to work on melodic-harmonic-rhythmic materials always attributable to the Fibonacci numerical series, hence, as a consequence, the choice of the title, Nautilus, finding the natural expression in the artistic perfection of said shell of the logarithmic spiral to which the golden section is applied. The form of symphonic movement that emerged has a rhapsodic flowThe choice of the sounds of the harmonic field of the first part (bar 0-50) is therefore based on the numerical series (based on a scale of 10 sounds), tracing each sound of the scale to a number from 0 to 9 and making them correspond to the numbers of the series of Fibonacci from 1 to 267,914,296.The second part (bars 51-64) is based on a harmonic field of 9 sounds which, when superimposed, generate 9 triads formed by superimposed 4ths which are used at a distance of 2, 3 or 5 beats (series of F. , from the 3rd to the 6th number). In this section, isorhythmy is used according to groupings of values that can be numerically traced back to the series.A short third part (bars 65-80) is inserted as an expressive moment: it is based on a scale of 7 sounds (spaced proportionally from each other according to the logarithmic spiral: from the 1/4 tone to the major 3rd).In the next and final section the isorhythmic part is resumed with small changes in the closing coda.

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1402356 Composed by Ron Goodwin. Arranged by Chris Siddall. Film/TV. 33 pages. Chris Siddall Music Publishing #985569. Published by Chris Siddall Music Publishing (A0.1402356). While his scores for both 633 Squadron (1963) and Operation Crossbow (1965) had boasted patriotic, major-key themes celebrating the heroics of the protagonists, composer Ron Goodwin took a different approach for Where Eagles Dare, generating his main theme for the picture out of the initial notes of an ascending minor scale. Rather than celebrate the heroics of the screen characters, the title music embodies the single-minded ambition of the protagonists to infiltrate the mountain fortress of Schloss Adler and complete their mission, no matter what the costs. The composer recalled in a 1994 interview that some of this approach came from the filmâ??s director, Brian Hutton. For instance, he wanted music at the beginning of the film but he also wanted to hear the airplane engines approaching from the distance, which is actually why he started off with just the side drums playing quietly and then building up and getting louder, so that you could actually hear the sound of the airplane before the orchestra comes in. After the snare drum and the â??Aâ? section of the main title comes a melodically related fugal section that, the composer told Randall D. Larson in 1984, was an idea that arose from the â??concept of people following each other around and dodging away from each other...[which] gave me the idea of writing a sort of fugue-style theme...and then I used that in various ways for all the sort of creeping and following and chasing that was going on throughout the film.â?Created from the original manuscript, this release offers a rare opportunity to study film music in its authentic, original orchestration and arrangement. An opportunity not to be missed!

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1440683 By Graham Hamilton. By Graham Hamilton. Classical,Contest,Festival,Film/TV,Historic,Traditional. 103 pages. Hambone Music #1020661. Published by Hambone Music (A0.1440683). A dramatic film-type composition capturing the journey of a novice monk during 15th Century Scotland. For orchestras of an intermediate standard. Ahaunting french horn solo is followed by a dramatic trek utilising the whole orchestra to the end where the horn to round the piece off.Inspired by an old ruined church in my town called the 'Cross Kirk' the history of which can be found here: https://www.britainexpress.co.uk/attr... Part 1 (0 - 2:24) It is around the year 1650. A novice monk awakes from his slumber to the echoes of prayers and holy chanting coming through the cloisters. After he rises, he readies the oxen for a trek down the St. Andrews Road to the nearby satellite site of the priory - the site of the modern day St Andrew's cemetery. Part 2 (2:26 -3:37) It is an arduous trek over a muddy, rocky, unprepared track with heavy carts, with oxen straining to pull the load. They stop for a breather (3:09) and the impressive vistas are observed and the flag at 'Auld Neidpath' is just visible, reflected in the noble theme between the arduous oxen trekking theme. Part 3 (3:37 - 6:02) The caravan starts to speed up; the oxen being startled by the sounds of fanfare trumpets coming from behind - a brave group of knights have broken through English lines and speed towards Neidpath to reinforce the besieged occupants. As they pass the wagon train, the fanfares get louder until the party reach the head of the train (4:30) where the lead Knight halts to show piety to the Hieromonk who blesses him and his knights (4:55). The novice looks on awe-inspired at the brave knights, with noble faces, resplendent in shining armour, with banners flapping in the wind. (5:02) No time to stop! The knights remount and continue on, the fanfares trailing off into the distance. The wagon train slows down having reached its destination. Part 4 (6:03 - 8:12) The novice is back at the priory, reflecting on seeing knights for the first time (receiving their blessing); their nobility and bravery impressed upon him and retires to his cell for the evening, the evening prayers and chants again echoing through the cloisters (6:30). As he closes his eyes, his mind returns to the knights and a smile crosses his face (8:01) as he gently drifts off to sleep, as the final bell of the day tolls.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1119919 By Mike Lyons. By Mike Lyons. Classical,Contemporary. Score and parts. 111 pages. Lyons Music Services #721269. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.1119919). Festival:(Time 7:05) This is an original, previously unpublished piece, composed specifically for the ICF festival 2022. It is a programmatic piece in 3 sections, with each section being a description of some aspect of the word Festival. I have taken the broadest definition of the word festival to give as much scope for variety as possible. The first section opens with ‘sunrise’ on the day of the festival, shown by long-held open fourth chords, with the snapping of the violin pizzicatos (perhaps) being the rattle of tent lines/guys. The bass clarinet solo then shows people waking up and stretching, yawning and just before Letter A, the descending figures throughout the ensemble bring us all together to start the festival. From Letter A, one sets off at a marching pace through the crowds. We hear a mish-mash of vendors’ calls overlaying each other, repeating variations of the same motif and this little tune develops as it moves around the festival site, sometimes loud and sometimes faint. At some point, of course, arguments break out (e.g. Letter B between the strings and brass), but generally, the mood is business-like. At Letter C, there comes a parade of minstrels through the field which eventually fades off into the distance. At Letter D, we look at a different kind of festival. Not necessarily religious, but certainly spiritual. The harp and bell sounds evoke far-eastern temples while the string harmonics evoke an eerie stillness which is broken only by the melodic fragments (based on the 4ths of the first section) which pass around the orchestra. The theme is first heard on the Cor Anglais (echoed by the harp) which gives it a warmer, less piercing, sound than the oboe. The quartal chords at b.149 denote the vast mysteries of the cosmos. As our gaze widens, we are suddenly brought back to Earth with a rush as yet another kind of festival is evoked. This time we are looking briefly at the Indian subcontinent. Where fakirs charm snakes and young boys climb ropes only to disappear. The third and final section returns us to the British Isles, where the Celts are making merry in a festival. There is dancing, singing, feasting and drinking a-plenty. And, just when you think it’s all over, there’s a final push to get another dance going. The final chords are a reminder of the opening as we finish our revels as the sun descends below the horizon in a beautiful sunset.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018959 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 34 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6078723. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018959). Programme Notes: This composition was written to be considered for pairing alongside Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony #3, the Eroica, but can stand on its own virtues as an intense and slow meditation on heroism. The music is like a boiling pot on the stove that’s just began to overflow its bubbles.  The first part of the title, kommos, is a Classical Greek term from Attic dramaturgy, literally meaning striking but specifically referring to beating oneself up during lamentation--ripping at the hair, gouging out the eyes--like Oedipus--slapping the forehead, and other acts amid moments of extreme emotional turmoil. For example, from Aeschylus's play Agamemnon, a character bewails: Apollo, Apollo! God of the Ways, my destroyer! For you have destroyed me-and utterly [...]What is this fresh woe [...]what monstrous, monstrous horror, beyond love's enduring, beyond all remedy? And help stands far away! We can easily imagine physical accompaniment to the script; rather than bottling up the pain, the hero lets it all explosively come out.  The second part of the title, When the world moved on, is an epigraph taken from American author Stephen King’s The Dark Tower epic. The primary setting of the novel, a world similar in many ways to our own, is experiencing a dark age where the glorious past is all but a distant memory and all good things are referred to wistfully as occurring, When the world moved on. Yet, the main protagonist, Roland, the last gunslinger, emphasizes that it is not just a figure of speech, but the literal distances between destinations have increased, the positions of the stars have changed, as well as the occurrence of other unnatural phenomena. The world has become a gulf of isolation from all corners.  Taken together, this piece is a lamentation for when the world moved on. Truly completed on Yom Kippur during the Covid-19 Pandemic, being unable to fast or go to synagogue, this is my atonement.About the Composer:  Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.
