Cornelius Edition (uk) #961638. Published by Cornelius Edition (uk) (A0.1377034). This famous march, regularly performed at u.k. 'The Last Night of the Proms' was composed in 1901. The words 'Land of Hope and Glory' were added to the trio section in 1902 by A C Benson. This section is traditionally associated with USA high school and college graduation ceremonies. This version is for full symphony orchestra.  2 Piccolos, 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets, 2 Bassoons,  4 horns, 2 Trumpets (or Cornets) 3 Trombones, Tuba, Organ, Harp, Percussion and Strings.  However 2nd Piccolo, 3rd and 4th Horns, Harp and Organ are all 'ad lib' and in general the arrangement is effective with the omission of some of the other wind and brass at the conductor's discretion. A full score and all parts are included with alternative Bb parts for Clarinet and Trumpet.

Score and parts of a Suite of orchestral excerpts from Hamlet (2017), a neo-romantic opera in 3 acts (libretto by Gene Tyburn, after Shakespeare), ranging between tragedy, irony and nostalgia: 1. Overture (Largo - Allegro assai e con brio) in D minor to Hamlet (2017). Dramatic composition, developing in sonatina form the main leitmotifs and themes of the opera (and the famous Folia theme in the beginning).2. Intermezzo No. 1 'The Players': humorous and ironic excerpt in B flat major for wind orchestra, accompanying the entrance of the players/actors.3. Intrada ('The Court'): orchestral march in E flat major, illustrating the entrance of the royal court.4. 'The Play': orchestral 'melodrama' in B flat major, illustrating in a satirical manner the play within the play and transforming bits by John Stepan Zamecnik for the silent movies of early 20th century.5. Intermezzo No. 2 'Polonius Chasing Hamlet': a symphonic scherzo in A flat major, illustrating Hamlet as he playfully grabs Polonius' hat and then is chased by him.6. 'Hamlet's Exile', linking together a postlude in F minor and an interlude in C major for string orchestra: after having accidentally killed Polonius, Hamlet feels sorry for him and then leaves in exile.7. Introduction to Act 3, in C minor: after having secretly returned from his exile in England, Hamlet arrives in the graveyard near Elsinore.8. Dead March in C minor: the funeral procession for Ophelia.9. The final chorus, in D major: after the horrors and crimes and Hamlet fulfilling his duty at his life's price, soothing hope returns.Total duration 33 min. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN. This arrangement for full orchestra of the famous Bizet opera Carmen strings together all the major (and some of the secondary) themes into a 20-minute medley: - Prelude (Introduction to Act 1 Les Toreadors & Prelude to Act 1) - Chorus of the Street Boys (Act 1 Le garde montante) - Habanera - Song and Recitative - Seguidilla and Duet (Act 1 Seguedille) - Finale (Act 1 Finale) - Act II: Entr'acte (Prelude to Act 2 Les dragons d’Alcala) - Gypsy Song (Act 2 Danse Boheme) - Toreador Song (Act 2 Chanson du Toreador) - Act III: Entr'acte (Prelude to Act 3 Intermezzo) - Sextet and Chorus (Introduction to Act 3 Marche des contrebandiers) - Air (Act 3 Nocturne) - Act IV: Entr'acte (Prelude to Act 4 Aragonaise) - March and Chorus – Finale (Act 4 Procession of the Toreadors) All the themes featured in the two orchestral suites by Ernest Guiraud are included. There are, however, major differences: - the themes appear in chronological order (like in the opera) - there are no distinct movements, this is a 20-minute romp featuring tune after tune - most parts, especially repetitive songs, are abridged to varying degrees - where appropriate, sections seamlessly segue into the next- the major tunes (Les Toreadors, Gypsy Song, Toreador Song) allow for applause afterwards - the orchestration follows the original (double woodwinds, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, harp, timpani and 3 percussion, strings) with minimal changes to compensate for missing vocal lines Further cuts are possible and easy to make due to the clearly marked sections. This arrangement is meant to rival the orchestral suites in excitement and colours - but in a more organic/continuous format. It is ideal for any level orchestra (intermediate+) in any kind of setting.

Other than the fact that Sousa’s “thunderer” was undoubtedly a Mason, his identity may never be revealed. “The Thunderer” march was dedicated to Columbia Commandery No. 2, Knights Templar, of Washington, D.C., and it was composed on the occasion of the Twenty-fourth Triennial Conclave of the Grand Encampment. The conclave was held in October 1889 and was sponsored by Columbia Commandery No. 2. Sousa had been “knighted” in that organization three years earlier.“The Thunderer” was Mrs. John Philip Sousa’s favorite march. This was revealed by their daughter Helen, who also surmised that the “thunderer” might have been her father’s salute to the London Times, which was known as “the thunderer.” It has since been determined that Sousa probably had no association with the newspaper at that time, however. The “thunderer” might have been one of the men in charge of making arrangements for the 1889 conclave–in particular, Myron M.
