Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q21191 Composed by Georges Bizet. This edition: study score. Ernst Eulenburg - Orchester - Partitur. Eulenburg Miniature Scores. Downloadable, study score. Ernst Eulenburg & Co. GmbH - Digital #Q21191. Published by Ernst Eulenburg & Co. GmbH - Digital (S9.Q21191). The première of Daudet's play, L'Arlésienne, with incidental music by Bizet, given at the Théâtre du Vaudeville on 30 September 1872, was a devastating event for both playwright and composer and the production was removed from the repertory after 19 performances. The critic Johannès Weber, however, was alert to the quality of Bizet's score and suggested that the composer should excerpt and rescore several pieces for the Concerts populaires where 'the lovely music would be better appreciated than at the Vaudeville'. Bizet must have moved rather quickly to follow Weber's suggestion, for the première of the first Arlésienne suite took place only six weeks later at the Concerts populaires on 10 November 1872 and the work in its new abridged form was soon taken up by many other orchestras. Bizet, however, did not turn to preparing a second suite from L'Arlésienne. Some four years after Bizet's death, the success of the first suite may have prompted his original publisher to commission the arrangement of more excerpts from the Arlésienne MS from Bizet's good friend Ernest Guiraud who had earlier written recitatives and put together a ballet for Carmen. In 1872 Bizet wrote the incidental music to Daudet’s famous tragedy ‘L’Arlésienne’. He had to tailor his composition to an orchestra of only 26 players, but these limited forces turned out to pose a stimulating challenge rather than an obstacle. Shortly after the premiere, he arranged four of the movements and formed them into the Suite No. 1 for large orchestra. The Suite No. 2 was arranged by Ernest Guiraud four years after Bizet’s death.

Published by Grahame Gordon Innes (A0.1425941). Symphony No 22 Galaxymbion is a 7-movement symphonic setting of scenes from my novel The Galaxymbion Odyssey MOVEMENT 1 – The Kytonian Expanse TOTAL NUMBER OF BARS = 2670 TOTAL DURATION = 125 minutes General methodology of composition;1. No fixed tonal centre2. Each movement inherits material from its predecessor3. The work is modular. This means that the 1st, 4th and 7th movements can be presented together as the symphony proper if full staging is not possible. The movements that double as concertos can be presented separately in their own right, hence their individual opus numbers.1. The work has developed from a highly individualized harmonic language that establishes its own laws independent from and additional to conventional harmonic practice. The same is true of the work’s unusual tonality. Central to this approach is the use of dodecaphonic principles in both the melodic and harmonic content. The intent here is to incorporate Schoenberg’s theoretical model of tone rows in an inclusive way, so that it is part of the work’s musical language and an additional tool in structuring and developing ideas. As a result the work remains tonal, albeit inhabiting a distinct and exotic aural landscape. There is no rigid adherence to conventional forms or methods of symphonic development, rather the work takes an entirely eccentric and highly individual approach. Whilst this is the ‘spark’ or heart of the work there is still an intention to create music instead of noise. Discords are therefore used as elsewhere in my more conventionally tonal works; as a natural consequence of the work itself instead of a forced snub at tonal music.

Published by Chris Siddall Music Publishing (A0.1402356). While his scores for both 633 Squadron (1963) and Operation Crossbow (1965) had boasted patriotic, major-key themes celebrating the heroics of the protagonists, composer Ron Goodwin took a different approach for Where Eagles Dare, generating his main theme for the picture out of the initial notes of an ascending minor scale. Rather than celebrate the heroics of the screen characters, the title music embodies the single-minded ambition of the protagonists to infiltrate the mountain fortress of Schloss Adler and complete their mission, no matter what the costs. The composer recalled in a 1994 interview that some of this approach came from the filmâ??s director, Brian Hutton. For instance, he wanted music at the beginning of the film but he also wanted to hear the airplane engines approaching from the distance, which is actually why he started off with just the side drums playing quietly and then building up and getting louder, so that you could actually hear the sound of the airplane before the orchestra comes in. After the snare drum and the â??Aâ? section of the main title comes a melodically related fugal section that, the composer told Randall D. Larson in 1984, was an idea that arose from the â??concept of people following each other around and dodging away from each other...[which] gave me the idea of writing a sort of fugue-style theme...and then I used that in various ways for all the sort of creeping and following and chasing that was going on throughout the film.â?Created from the original manuscript, this release offers a rare opportunity to study film music in its authentic, original orchestration and arrangement. An opportunity not to be missed!

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.976734 Composed by Robert Myers. 20th Century,Christmas,Contemporary. Score and parts. 99 pages. WheatMyer Music #6496769. Published by WheatMyer Music (A0.976734). CONJUNCTION interprets the convergence of Jupiter and Saturn near the end of the year 2020 as a celestial metaphor for the good news of Christ's birth in a replay of the Star of Bethlehem. Hence, its subtitle of The Christmas Star of 2020. The music, along with narration from selected Old and New Testament scriptures, delivers a message of hope amid the turmoil and chaos of current times. It's written for smaller concert bands hungry for challenging music. Ample cues and doubling allow for flexible instrumentation while mixed meters, varying tempos and textures, and interesting solo lines provide opportunities for strong players to shine. CONJUNCTION is also available with strings for orchestra.PROGRAM NOTES:2020 is widely characterized for its maladies: murders, burning cities, riots, a pandemic, economic shocks, and political turmoil. For some of us, it also held personal tragedy such as my brother’s passing from COVID. But, 2020 also brought a sign of hope, namely the celestial phenomenon known as the Great Conjunction of 2020. For earth-bound observers, this was the closest approach of Jupiter and Saturn in almost 400 years as they appeared to almost touch in the early evening sky to produce the most brilliant evening star of our lifetimes. The occurrence of the event in November-December neatly coincided with the Advent season, peaking just before Christmas Day. One could hardly fail to note the parallels with the Christmas star of Matthew’s gospel which gave the conjunction its alternate name, the Christmas Star of 2020. Thus, this star spoke, to those with ears to hear, the same message the prophet Isaiah wrote about the coming Messiah, The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light. This star thus served to remind us that the LORD has not rejected us; He will show His favor again; His love has not vanished; His promises have not failed; He has not forgotten to be merciful or compassionate; and we are called to remember His mighty deeds (Psalm 77). CONJUNCTION: The Christmas Star of 2020 is inspired by these particulars. For the music, I looked to Gustav Holst’s The Planets for themes that would portray Jupiter and Saturn’s pas de deux. I selected several motives from the corresponding movements mixed and matched in sometimes easily recognized quotations and other times in heavily camouflaged derivations. An exuberant polyphonic passage recaps themes from both Jupiter and Saturn when the music resolves from uncertainty into hopefulness. While Holst’s motives provide CONJUNCTION’s foundation I also used Handel’s Messiah for transitory and climactic material. You will hear his The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light in transitions and a short trombone solo. And a re-harmonization of the opening line from For unto us a child is born brings the music to a joyous climax.Although the music stands firmly on its own, I elected to incorporate some narrative to make the musical sentiment explicit. In a commentary on 2020’s grim events, I took adaptations of Habakkuk 1:2-4 and 2 Tim 3:1-4 and set them over Saturn’s plodding and ominous harmonies. Contrasting replies shimmer with hope as the narration melds Isaiah 9:2 and Luke 1:78-79 over another Saturn motive set against pitch sets from Jupiter’s main hymn theme. Still, it’s the music that tells the story of the Christmas Star of 2020.Please visit my website for a complete score preview: https://wheatmyermusic.com/conjunction-the-christmas-star-of-2020I feel somewhat guilty making claim to this music as almost all the building blocks are taken from other composers. But the end result is neither a medley, nor an arrangement, rather it is something clearly new, so I call it my own with deep respect to those giants on whose shoulders I stand.Robert MyersS.D.G.

Published by Dacker Music (A0.814731). The music of Paisano Suite was composed in 1982 for the Austin Ballet Theatre on a grant from the City of Austin. The resulting ballet was produced in February, 1983 under the title Ballabile, with choreography by ABT Artistic Director Stanley Hall. This music was originally scored for a small pit orchestra, and it was only in 2012 that it was shortened and re-orchestrated to create this suite for full orchestra. Since the original title is a term used specifically for dance music, and the new version of the work is meant to be a concert suite rather than a ballet, it was also re-titled after the Paisano Ranch, in the central Texas Hill Country, where it was originally composed and which served as its inspiration. The entire nearly twenty-minute suite is actually based on a fairly modest amount of musical material and the eight short movements are thematically all very closely related. The overall framework is highly unified in that way.Scored for woodwinds, horns, and trumpets in pairs; 1 trombone, tympani, and strings.1. Prelude 2. Scherzo 3. Berceuse 4. Fugue 5. Pastorale 6. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.OMW1910). 9 x 12 in inches.Alfred Hitchcock was known for making films based on his phobias. I decided to write about one of my own fears of growing up in the Midwest. Completed in the the Summer of 2018, this unique work for orchestra is about the terrifying F5 tornadoes that occasionally become a reality. Based on a repeated motive rather than a theme, the work transitions through the life cycle of the wind disaster. A longer contrasting theme, based on the feeling of desperation, is heard between the motive sections. Duration: About 2 minutes, 40 seconds. Performance Note:The 3rd Flute, 3rd Clarinet and 2nd Oboe are optional. The Percussion part may be performed by two players.

Aere R Greenway #873570. Published by Aere R Greenway (A0.1282260). Brahms composed his piano sonata in F-minor, in 1853, at the age of 20. Â Markings in the piano music, such as 'like cello', or in another place 'like pizzicato', suggest he was thinking in orchestral terms. Â Indeed, the earliest sketches of his 1st symphony come from the year his sonata in F-minor was published. Â Yet he worked at least 14 years on his first symphony, finally publishing it in 1876, at age 43. Â What if Brahms had orchestrated his sonata in F-minor, opus 5, publishing it as his first symphony, in his youth, rather than at age 43? Â Attempting to answer that, I embarked on a big project, to orchestrate Brahms sonata in F-minor, into a symphony. Â And you can listen to it yourself, as the music of Brahms comes shining through, as a symphony that 'might have been'. Â Though the instrument choices and dynamics adjustments for orchestra are mine, the music is all Brahms. Â See what you think. Â This is the 5th movement, the Finale. Â The music of Brahms is a long-time favorite of symphony audiences, and this could be a hit with your audience, as well.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018959 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 34 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6078723. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018959). Programme Notes: This composition was written to be considered for pairing alongside Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony #3, the Eroica, but can stand on its own virtues as an intense and slow meditation on heroism. The music is like a boiling pot on the stove that’s just began to overflow its bubbles.  The first part of the title, kommos, is a Classical Greek term from Attic dramaturgy, literally meaning striking but specifically referring to beating oneself up during lamentation--ripping at the hair, gouging out the eyes--like Oedipus--slapping the forehead, and other acts amid moments of extreme emotional turmoil. For example, from Aeschylus's play Agamemnon, a character bewails: Apollo, Apollo! God of the Ways, my destroyer! For you have destroyed me-and utterly [...]What is this fresh woe [...]what monstrous, monstrous horror, beyond love's enduring, beyond all remedy? And help stands far away! We can easily imagine physical accompaniment to the script; rather than bottling up the pain, the hero lets it all explosively come out.  The second part of the title, When the world moved on, is an epigraph taken from American author Stephen King’s The Dark Tower epic. The primary setting of the novel, a world similar in many ways to our own, is experiencing a dark age where the glorious past is all but a distant memory and all good things are referred to wistfully as occurring, When the world moved on. Yet, the main protagonist, Roland, the last gunslinger, emphasizes that it is not just a figure of speech, but the literal distances between destinations have increased, the positions of the stars have changed, as well as the occurrence of other unnatural phenomena. The world has become a gulf of isolation from all corners.  Taken together, this piece is a lamentation for when the world moved on. Truly completed on Yom Kippur during the Covid-19 Pandemic, being unable to fast or go to synagogue, this is my atonement.About the Composer:  Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. Full Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.928008 Composed by Malcolm D Robertson. Contemporary. 70 pages. Mr Malcolm D Robertson #6638437. Published by Mr Malcolm D Robertson (A0.928008). Composed between the 26th February & 15th April 2021. My 2nd Symphony is in one continuous movement, but four clearly defined sections - slow-fast-slow-fast. The subtitle 'Variants' was perhaps rather apt with the Covid-19 pandemic ongoing during the symphony's composition. The initial idea on the violas provides the thematic basis for the entire Symphony, with various aspects of the initial idea being continually varied throughout the course of the work. Unusually for me the Symphony ends loudly almost brashly. The Symphony is scored for a large symphony orchestra and is around 28 minutes in duration.Parts can be supplied upon request.

Orchestra - Digital Download Composed by Gyorgy Ligeti (1923-2006). This edition: study score. Music Of Our Time. Downloadable. Duration 12 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q23904. Published by Schott Music - Digital
I composed the orchestral piece Melodien in 1971. I tried to loosen up the dense micropolyphony of my musical language, to make it more transparent. Basically, I stayed true to my earlier style: the musical form unfolds like a stretched fabric in the continuously flowing time, but the individual voices no longer merge (as in my earlier music), rather they can be heard individually in their overlapping and interweaving . The voices become individual melodies, with their own style, their own tempo, rhythm and interval structure. If you listen to the work for the first time, it appears as a chaos of discrepant melodies - but if you know the music better, the internal connections become tangible, the hidden harmonic skeleton of the form becomes tangible. (Gyorgy Ligeti)
This facsimile edition offers an impressive access to the composer's work. A study score in modern notation is also available.
