Flute Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.941369 Composed by Helene Schulthess. Folk,Patriotic. Individual part. 7 pages. Helene Schulthess #5203767. Published by Helene Schulthess (A0.941369). Very famous Swiss Song with 10 variations for flute soloAccording to tradition, the Swiss Thomas Legler, then Grenadier Lieutenant in French service, began this song at dawn on November 28, 1812 with his comrades just before the Battle of Beresina broke out. This song later became a public good under the name Beresinalied.www.helene-schulthess.chThe Beresinalied still commemorates the battle that took place 200 years ago at the Beresina in what is now Belarus. In November 1812, four Swiss regiments, which had to move to Russia with Napoleon, made a decisive contribution to covering the retreat of the defeated army across the Beresina river. Of the originally 9,000 Swiss, only about 350 came back alive. Napoleon's Russian campaign, the last battle of which was at the Beresina, was the largest, unprecedented human-made disaster at the time.www.helene-schulthess.ch

Flute Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.997531 Composed by Victor Somma. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 7 pages. Victor Somma #5725027. Published by Victor Somma (A0.997531). The word Ide means go in archaic Portuguese, and in this tense suggests an imperatively dictated order. This caught my attention while reading the New Testament and noticed that Jesus used this imperative a few times with his disciples. This order was sometimes for his disciples to be like sheep among wolves, no matter the social or physical consequences of what they were about to do, other times the commendment was simply to spread love and grace around the world. For the New Testament, man's relationship with his Creator thus suggests a decision to be made by man himself to go beyond what can be seen as reality, as if human beings had to have the courage to go without fear beyond its limits, and only then could it experience a transcendent spiritual reality. A faith that involves the attitude of man, who by pure grace manages, if he so chooses, to go beyond. This piece was composed in 2013 and the recorded in 2015. This video was lost but now I've found it...

Flute Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1188785 By Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Leo Silva. New Age,Pop,Spiritual. Individual part. 2 pages. MP Sheet Music #788400. Published by MP Sheet Music (A0.1188785). The Fool on the Hill was released by The Beatles in 1967 as part of the Magical Mystery Tour album, which also included All You Need Is Love and Penny Lane. The song was written and composed by Paul McCartney and is sung by him and John Lennon on the studio version. The song is about a solitary, eccentric character who stands and watches the activity of the people around him. He does not feel part of the activity that is taking place, since no one notices him or cares about what he says or does. Although people view him as a fool, the narrator says that he knows more than he speaks. It was well received by critics and was hailed as one of the best songs by The Beatles. The Fool on the Hill was praised for its message of acceptance of different people and for its unique music. It was recognized as a symbol of acceptance and tolerance, and is still remembered today as one of the band's most iconic songs.

Fugue: "Wear Pearls and Smile" (A Pairing with Beethoven's Symphony #2) - Flute 1

Flute Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018922 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 4 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6072947. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018922). Fugue: Wear Pearls and Smile is, on the outset, a fast, rambunctious adventure for many voices playing at the same time. It was conceived as a pairing for the equally vivacious second symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven–his 250th birthday is this year–but can stand on its own as one of my hardest, most challenging works to cook up.This piece is dedicated to those forced to appear positive when internally they’re falling apart. The title is inspired by a quote that’s been with me for a while, Why is it that men can be bastards and women must wear pearls and smile? by Lynn Hecht Schafren, the celebrated American jurist famous for campaigning for gender equity in courts. I’m taking the quote out of its initial context, but the power of that quote, for me, exemplifies how hard it is to maintain a sense of emotional decorum and dignity when you’re authentically a hot mess. And what’s more of a musical hot mess than a fugue? There are two realities to this piece. I’ll quote Dmitri Shostakovich, from his autobiography: The rejoicing is forced, created under threat, […] It’s as if someone were beating you with a stick and saying, ‘Your business is rejoicing, your business is rejoicing,’ and you rise, shaky, and go marching off, muttering ‘Our business is rejoicing, our business is rejoicing.’ On the one hand, it is insincere happiness, cloying perhaps. But the other truth, I’ll quote Oscar Hammerstein II, from The King and I: While shivering in my shoes / I strike a careless pose / And whistle a happy tune / And no one ever knows, / I'm afraid. I forced myself, against all impulses of my current being, to forge happiness. This piece, with its origin being a mental puzzle (fugues are puzzles), it became a construct where I could lift myself up and regain a sense of purpose. Therefore, it is invented–out of a literal need to survive–pure, genuine happiness.Future Performances: If you are interested in performing this work, please e-mail me.ABOUT THE COMPOSER: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings , with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

Flute Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018874 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 3 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6056055. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018874). Programme Notes: Icarus Also Flew takes its title from the first line of the poem Failing and Flying by Jack Gilbert. He is referring to the classical myth of Daedalus and Icarus, an inventive father and son who bravely escape from their imprisonment in a tower by collecting the disposed feathers of seabirds, then fashion wings out of them and fly away. While the story is often treated as a morality tale--listen to your elders, don’t get cocky like the young man, Icarus, who, in such an understandable state of elation, ascended too close to the sun thus causing the wings to melt and his tumbling to his Mediterranean death--what Jack Gilbert reminds us is how regardless of one’s failure, the sheer transcendental experience of mortal flight remains glorious and unforgettable. Icarus’s fall was not into a legacy of disdain and oblivion, but in truth, he had come to the end of his triumph. This piece was the first of a series I composed during the Covid-19 quarantine conditions of 2020, to serve as potential contemporary preludes for each of Ludwig van Beethoven’s nine symphonies--his two hundred and fiftieth anniversary was this year!--though they can all stand on their own on any program. The connection, in this case, is with his celebrated fifth symphony in C minor--the Fate symphony, as it is commonly known. I’ll let the listener find their own connections.About the Composer:Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Gaúcho - Corta-Jaca By Chiquinha Gonzaga for flute

Flute Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1083310 By Idalmo Santos. By Franci…
(+)
Flute Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1083310 By Idalmo Santos. By Francisca Gonzaga (Chiquinha Gonzaga 1847-1935). Arranged by Idalmo Santos. Latin,Multicultural,World. Individual part. 2 pages. Idalmo Santos #687512. Published by Idalmo Santos (A0.1083310). The famous Corta-jaca, the name with which the tango Gaúcho became popular, is one of Chiquinha Gonzaga's most recorded and best-known songs, along with Ó abre alas, Lua branca, and Atraente. It was born on the stages of musical theaters, where it was danced in the final scene of the burlesque operetta of national costumes Zizinha Maxixe, imitated from French by an anonymous author, performed at the Teatro Éden Lavradio, in August 1895. Actor Machado Careca (José Machado Pinheiro e Costa), the anonymous author of the play, ended up putting verses to the music of Corta-jaca, helping to popularize it, especially after his version was recorded on disc by the duo Os Geraldos. Throughout history, Corta-jaca frequented other stages and repertoires: café-cantante, chope-berrante, rodas de choro... But it was at the Palácio do Catete, in 1914, that it achieved its glory. Performed on the guitar by first lady Nair de Teffé, it caused political scandal and ended up nicknaming the administration of Hermes da Fonseca. The reaction can be measured by the impassioned speech that Senator Rui Barbosa made from the rostrum. When asked what was the corta-jaca he had heard so much about, he concluded: The lowest, the most vulgar, the rudest of all wild dances, the twin sister of batuque, cateretê and samba. But at presidential receptions the corta-jaca is performed with all the honors of Wagner's music, and one does not want the conscience of this country to revolt, our faces to blush and the youth to laugh! Never before in the history of Brazil had eminently popular music been performed at the seat of government, in front of the diplomatic corps and the country's elite. Corta-jaca has become a classic of the great repertoire of Brazilian instrumental music, meriting recordings by, among others, Abel Ferreira, Altamiro Carrilho, Antonio Adolfo, Artur Moreira Lima, Clara Sverner, Conjunto Regional do Donga, Eudóxia de Barros, Guio de Morais, Itamar Assieré, Leandro Braga, Marcus Viana, Maria Teresa Madeira, Marcelo Verzoni, Paulo Moura, Radamés Gnatalli, Rosária Gatti, Talitha Peres, TurÃbio Santos, countless bands, and some sung versions. It was written by the maestro also for singing and piano and small orchestra: oboe, viola, timpani, horns (bass), bassoon.
