It is a set of four concerti for Violin, each of the four representing one of the four seasons. A performance of the entire original set would take at least 40 minutes. This version is a collection of the main themes presented as a short suite and takes approximately 5 minutes to perform. Alternatively, each of the movements may be performed as a separate piece. The aim of this arrangement was to give Early Intermediate Level Woodwind and/or Brass players an opportunity to perform what is undoubtedly one of the most well-known pieces of Baroque string repertoire. The instrumentation is flexible, allowing for many different combinations of instruments, including Clarinet Trio/ Ensemble, Saxophone Trio/Ensemble, Brass Trio/Ensemble and even Concert Band. The Solo at the start of the 4th Movement (Winter) is an opportunity to feature a Part 1 player who is more advanced. The inclusion of this short section is entirely optional. Part 4 is optional and can be used to include a Tuba and/or less competent players of Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone and F Horn. The inclusion of a Tuba is preferable in the case of a large brass ensemble. The inclusion of a Bass Clarinet (Part 3 or 4) is preferable in a large clarinet ensemble. The score is shown in concert pitch. Octave displacement occurs in some parts. Parts 2, 3 and 4 are kept below the break for the Clarinet and/or Bass Clarinet players. The music is to bring to mind pleasure in sightseeing, wandering around cafe's, seeing children at play, people dancing and laughing and families gathering in a happy relaxed atmosphere in the glorious sunshine.The piece is in concert F major establishing the bright swingy rhythm, this then flows into the second section which is more lyrical and legato and is in E flat major. A short bridge section follows keeping the motif's heard in the first section but exploring the lower registers and remains largely legato. The first two sections are then heard again before a modulation takes place to give the piece a final lift before the end. The piece concludes quietly with a snippet of the opening motif.I have set it to intermediate level but the whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability.The music would be a great addition to any repertoire as a happy piece, programmatic with a world/travelling theme in mind.Full score 16 pages-parts 4 pages each. 4 mins 15 in length.Price is for score and all parts.NB Versions for Flute choir (4 C flutes, Alto and Bass Flute) and Flute Ensemble of 6 C Flutes are also available as is a Clarinet Choir version.

Before I did this there was another work on my mind of an opposite challenge for band in the orch rep dep.An impressionist work of great delicacy, subtle beyond belief, the fabric is fragile like lace with a feeling of transparency and lucidity and must move as if played by one person, colour and timbre, light, lithe, the orchestration a masterpiece, utilising fx from all dep’s often at ppp and most difficult to replicate at all for brass band.And, it’s a fair cop! The purists outsiders will say that this is the last piece that should be arranged for a brass band. So why arrange the greatest impressionist work ever written, for Brass Band?Well, because it’s there, and I believe it can be played with the above requirements by band. The work was written in the summer of 1894, and finished in the September. Three months later in December the Societe Nationale de Musique conducted by Gustave Doret with Marcel Moyse playing the opening flute solo gave the first performance. The concept of the piece was built around a poem by Stephan Mallarme, who describes the wishes and dreams of a faun in the heat of a summer afternoon. Prep for tres difficile?
