The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble has performed the Trumpet Quintet version of the Recordare for funerals, providing beautiful, introspective music for the occasion. There is some controversy surrounding the circumstances of the Requiem's composition because Mozart died before he could complete it. Count Franz von Walsegg had commissioned a Requiem Mass but Mozart had received only half of the payment in advance. So, upon his death on December 5th, 1791, his widow, Constanze, wished to have the work completed secretly by someone else and submit it to the count as having been completed by Mozart to collect the final payment. Joseph von Eybler was one of the first composers to be asked to complete the score and had worked on a number of movements but felt unable to complete the remainder and gave the manuscript back to Constanze Mozart. The task was then given to another composer, Franz Xaver Sussmayr. Sussmayr borrowed some of Eybler's work in making his completion, added his own orchestration to other movements and added several new movements which a Requiem Mass would normally comprise. He then added a final section by adapting the opening two movements which Mozart had written to the different words which finish the Requiem Mass, which according to both Sussmayr and Mozart's wife, was done according to Mozart's directions. Even against a backdrop such as the Bridger Mountain Range, this cloud was of epic proportions. As I watched this cloud form and descend to meet the peaks, this melody formed in my mind. In this work, you will hear a gentle sunrise give light to the scene, the morning fog rising and becoming a thick blanket nestled into each couloir leading up the ridges. The cloud then descends to obscure the skyline and flow into the Gallatin valley where it becomes a fierce, if short-lived, snowstorm. The flurry ends, the enormous snowflakes settle, and the cloud and fog are eventually blown away to reveal the same mountains, but even more majestic with a fresh blanket of snow.

This simple arrangement adapted for Horn in F quintet was imagined for a group of beginner students who want to start their immersion in classical music, of course with the help of a teacher. Even though the original work is for strings, this did not prevent this beautiful adaptation, where the original essence of the work was maintained, being made only an adaptation of the tonality and some adaptations in the tessitura of the instruments. This piece can be used for professional and academic recitals, didactic material and repertoire for ensemble practice as well, which does not prevent professional musicians and instructors from using it for performances of their preference.Luigi Boccherini was born in the city of Lucca, in northern Italy. He studied cello and became a virtuoso who eventually moved to Spain, where he worked with the Spanish royal family for the rest of his life. His String Quintet in E major, Op. 11, No. 5, G 275, was written in 1771 and published in 1775, and is one of his most famous works.The quintet is famous for its minuet and trio, third movement which is often played as an independent piece outside the context of the full quintet. This is notably the most famous, it is in 3/4 time, in the key of E Major modulating to A Major. This is a beautiful work, and not just the third movement, with good partial writing for all. The lovely, flowing melodies and rhythms are typical of Boccherini. The quintet is suitable for both concerts and home performances.

He wrote a huge body of choral music, some of it profound and timeless. He also composed brilliant, virtuoso pieces and his motet-like anthem, Sing Joyfully, a polyphonic setting of Psalm 81, written in 1590, is perhaps his best-known one, It is enchanting to listen to and fun to sing. Regis Bookshar thought that instrumental performers should have the same opportunity that singers have experienced for years so he has now transcribed, edited and arranged this wonderful selection for a French Horn Sextet.Since no tempo is indicated and there are no written dynamic or phrase markings in William Byrd's original score, Regis Bookshar has taken to liberty to add them in order to provide direction and life to the piece. This arrangement is suitable for high school and colllege students abd is perfect for concerts and recitals and perhaps even church services, but could be performed for any occasion. Arranged for large horn ensemble (10 or 11) plus additional timpani. This arrangement is written for 11 horns, but can be played with 10 horns as well. In that case the 5th horn is canceled and the cue notes must be played in the other parts. The solo horn is not intended as a soloist. The term is used because horns 1 to 4 generally form the original horn parts. It would be strange to name them differently, because horn 2 is normally a low horn and will remain so. The solo horn plus horns 1 to 5 generally form the horn and wind parts in the original score. Horns 6 to 10 generally form the string parts in the original score. The timpani are additional, but I think they add extra color and depth to the score.
