Capriccio No. 1 for Organ is a reverent and meditative piece written by Minnesota composer Simon Sperl (SimonSperl.com). The piece is a discussion about the Zen symbol ensÅ. The ensÅ is a circle that is hand-drawn in one or two uninhibited brushstrokes to express the present moment. It can symbolize absolute enlightenment, strength, elegance, the universe, and/or mu (the void or not; nothing). Sperl uses a repeated figure of a portion of the circle of fifths to represent this circle. The meditative quality of the music is meant to help the listener find peace and the eternal now.

Organ - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q45183 Martin Luther. Composed by Enjott Schneider. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Duration 24 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q45183. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q45183). On the occasion of the quincentenary of Reformation Day in 2017, the composer Enjott Schneider thoroughly studied Martin Luther the individual and all his contradictions. The result is a brilliant, demanding organ symphony which is perfect for concerts on the subject of Reformation and Martin Luther. The composer describes the five movements of the symphony as follows: '1st movement: Wir glauben all an einen Gott with its quintuplet-like beginning is very Gregorian in style, outlining the range of Lutheran emotionalism between the Middle Ages and the modern era. The irrationality of faith ultimately has priority over any thought and evidence. At the beginning of the movement, sounds of knocking on wood remind of the nailing of the Ninety-Five Theses to the doors of churches in Wittenberg. The chorale melody sometimes hides with an almost rough medieval saltarello, referring to Luther's robustness and vitality with which he knew to carry away even common people. 2nd movement: In 1530, the electoral prince of Saxony presented to Luther at Coburg Castle the golden signet ring with the Luther rose which became the symbol of his theology of grace. A white heart with black cross is fixed on a five-petalled rose. To him, white is the colour of angels and ghosts, black stands for the pain of crucification: The just shall live by faith, but by faith in the Crucified. But the fact that the rose and the heart are the dominating symbols shows how Catholic Marian piety remained an ingredient of Luther's spirituality throughout his life. In line with the dominant five-petal structure of the rose, this movement was composed, to a large extent, in accordance with the floating, lyrical rhythm in 5/8 time. 3rd movement: The omnipresence of death and dying – from the plague and war to the never-ending dangers of daily life – was an essential part of the world view of that time. Fears ensued that might heighten into the grotesque, e.g. in the pictures of Hieronymus Bosch. The Danse macabre was a popular motif in those years. Luther's chorale Mitten wir im Leben sind / mit dem Tod umfangen from 1524 (Enchiridion from Erfurt) is based on the Gregorian chant Media vita in morte sumus created in France around 750 and, with its idea of transience, inspired a simplistic air. 4th movement: The famous confession delivered at the Diet of Worms in 1521, I stand here and can say no more. God help me. Amen, are not Luther's words but the version later used as text for a pamphlet. However, it represents quite plainly the straightforwardness and inevitability of his mission. Musically, it was made into a perpetuum mobile, i.e. a dogged, ostinato and never-ending musical air. 5th movement: The Mighty Fortress, on the other hand, is one of the great symbols of Martin Luther which, with its shining C major key, embodies the Protestant ideology and willful nature of the Reformation unlike any other song. Heinrich Heine called it the Marseille anthem of the Reformation, Friedrich Engels the Marseillaise of the Peasants' Wars. This disputability is not thought through to the end but rather interrupted: With a jubilant birdcall version of the melody, the finale shows a rather chamber-music-like side of the ideals of freedom of Christians.'.

Organ - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q7132 Pathétique. Composed by Enjott Schneider. This edition: Sheet music. Downloadable. Schott Music - Digital #Q7132. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q7132). One of the first things that comes to one's mind when reading the title of Organ Symphony No. 9 'Pathétique' by Enjott Schneider is another work with this epithet: Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6. And that is no coincidence: The composer regards his organ work as an homage to this 'elder sister'. While Tchaikovsky, in a secret programme, made out his own life to be a struggle and long ordeal to the point of his suspected suicide, Enjott Schneider presents those hours as the ultimate tale of woe in which Jesus had well and truly become human, fatefully bearing the pain and misery of all people. 'Gethsemane', 'Geiselung: Ecce homo', 'Golgatha' and 'Grablegung': Maria Magdalena' are the names of the stages and movements. The Greek word 'pathos' means 'strong emotion, feeling, passion or suffering' - in Schneider's Organ Symphony No. 9, this comes true, musically, in his inner conflict, struggle, wrestling with his fate, cruelty of the crucifixion and deathly silence.

Score. 148 pages. Dr. Gregory Hamilton #719161. Published by Dr. Gregory Hamilton (A0.1117618). These organ works are collected from a variety of sources, commissions, practical situations that appropriate music was called for, and occasions great and small. They form no program or sequence, but are simply a collection of various organ works composed over the past few years. They encompass many different styles, and I am sure that not all organists will resonate with each of these works. Few registrations are given, as it is expected that organists will need to solve registration challenges with the instrument at hand, and thus flexibility is expected. This collection is dedicated to the Memory of Dr. Marilyn Mason (Madame Mason) who taught at the University of Michigan for 63 years. A number of organists have recorded many of these pieces, and myself, a search on YouTube will reveal some of these. www.gregoryhamilton.org.

Organ - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.932693 Composed by Gustaf T. Holst. Arranged by Terry M. Forsyth. Children,Christian,Christmas,Contemporary. Score. 2 pages. Forsyth Publishing #6113529. Published by Forsyth Publishing (A0.932693). Put on you alpaca! This organ solo Christmas winter arrangement takes this hymn through a raging wind storm. Really! By putting melody on great flute 8' with no volume fluxuation and the left hand constant moving tritone using Gedeckt 8', the organist has to experiment with increasing then decreasing unpredictable and violent volume changes to achieve the realism of a major wind storm. Truly, it will become a bleak mid-winter. I have used it as an offertory last year and will be using it somewhere this Christmas season. The wind storm makes this a very unique piece, not the standard worship service piece. Easy to play as it uses no pedal tones, the challenge is extensive use of the swell pedal for only the accompaniment with flute on great the steady volume. Tune name: Cranham.

Johann Speth (1664-1719) - Toccata Prima oder erstes musikalishes Blumen-Feld Transcribed by Guido Menestrina - youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8huOtZ9bQak From Wikipedia: Johann (Johannes) Speth (9 November 1664 – after 1719) was a German organist and composer. He was born in Speinshart, some 150 km from Nuremberg, but spent most of his life in Augsburg, where he worked as cathedral organist for two years. His only surviving music is a 1693 collection, Ars Magna Consoni et Dissoni, which includes toccatas, Magnificat versets and variations in south German style. Speth was born in Speinshart, Bavaria, to teacher Heinrich Speth and his wife Margareta (née Vichtl). Past scholars established that Speth must have received music lessons from the abbot of the Premonstratensian monastery at Speinshart, one Dominikus Lieblein, however, this has recently been disproven. Nothing is known about his life before 1692, when he applied for the position of organist of Augsburg Cathedral. The application, which contained Speth's compositions, was accepted, and he was appointed organist on 4 November 1692. The music he supplied with the application was published the next year in Augsburg as Ars magna Consoni et Dissoni. In the files of the cathedral administration there is a note from 1705 showing that Speth had also to work in the office of the cathedral chapter. The exact date of Speth's death is unknown, but there is a document that shows that in 1719, he still lived with his wife and a maidservant in Augsburg. The composer's only surviving work is the collection published in 1693 in Augsburg, Ars magna Consoni et Dissoni. The title may be a reference to Athanasius Kircher's famous book, Musurgia universalis, sive ars magna consoni et dissoni (1650). An early description of the work was included by Johann Gottfried Walther in his Musikalisches Lexicon; Walther claimed Speth only compiled the pieces but did not compose. This hypothesis is now generally considered false. Ars Magna contains music intended for organ or clavichord: 10 toccatas (subtitled Musicalische Blumen-Felder), 8 Magnificat settings, and three variation sets. The music has clearly traceable Italian influences, with direct borrowings: one of the variation sets is built on a theme by Bernardo Pasquini, there is also a passage from Bernardo Storace in the Spangioletta variation set, and a verset by Alessandro Poglietti (quinti toni no. 3). The influence of contemporary southern organists is also apparent, particularly that of Georg Muffat and Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer. The toccatas are unusually short for the genre; most consist of three (toccata-fugue-toccata) sections. There are some interesting features such as dynamic indications in Toccata quarta. The Magnificat settings are, like similar pieces by Johann Kaspar Kerll and others, short versets for alternatim practice.

Organ - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1134049 Composed by Phil Beaman. Classical,Praise & Worship. Score. 5 pages. Phil Beaman #734161. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.1134049). 3 Pieces for Beginning Organist is a collection of 3 pieces which could conveniently be used as a Prelude, Offertory, and Postlude. Intended for the Beginning Organist, all pieces are written in Classical style, all are in Rounded Binary form (ABA), all are in the Key of C, all have very limited pedal use. In other words, these pieces are perfect to have in your repertoire when you need something to pull out at the last minute. Prelude - Soldier's Fanfare is an energetic organ fanfare made up of triads, scales, and arpeggios in very basic form. Pedaling is mostly on the chord root and usually changes just once per bar, and there is no pedaling at all during the middle Swell section. 2 pages, 1:30 minutes Offertory - Music Box Minuet is a delightful Organ Solo for manuals/hands (no pedal part). Both hands are in the Treble Clef. The RH has the melody of mostly quarter notes (crotchets) played on a Flute stop. The LH has mostly 2 note chords, one chord per bar, played on Strings. The A Theme is in 4/4 and the B Theme in 3/4. Each Theme is repeated. 1 page, 1 minute Postlude - Classical Euphoria is an Organ Solo of pure fun. Euphoria--a temporary feeling of excessive happiness and intense joy. That certainly describes this piece of music. This piece puts a smile on my face every time. And it is definitely classical. It is in the Key of C with broken triads and is in Rounded Binary form. The B theme is minor but still happy and energetic. The complete song is Intro-AABBAA-Coda. There is no pedal part except a drone in the Coda. 1 page, 1 minute Each of these three pieces may also be purchased separately on this site.

Published by Chris Kovarik (A0.1372217). Nettleton (composed 2017, duration ca. 3’ 20â€) is a multi-sectional work that presents the hymn tune in a variety of moods and textures, from quiet and gentle to loud and brash. Sections tend to dissolve into one another, with no breaks in the pulse, keeping the pace moving. The overall mood is quite happy, if not triumphant.Technical note: while this is generally a loud piece, fairly unambiguously intended as a postlude, it nonetheless plays easier than it sounds.

School Sisters of St. Francis #989483. Published by School Sisters of St. Francis (A0.1406728). “The Spirit of the Lord† Sr. Theophane Hytrek OSFDedicated to Robert Verwoert on the occasion of his ordination to the priesthood — May 1971Sr. Theophane Hytrek OSF earned her PhD in composition from the University of Rochester (Eastman School of Music) in 1955.  She is known for a variety of compositional genres, e.g. keyboard (organ and piano), voice, and orchestra. Compositions for voice include masses, responses, psalm settings, hymns for congregation, choral music and solos.TEXT:The Spirit of the Lord is upon us. Send your Spirit upon us in this time and place, the Spirit who gives us comfort, the Spirit who brings light to our eyes, the Spirit who helps us say yes to your summoning Word.Bless us, Father, as you have done before, with the gift of your Spirit that he may stir new life within us.Blest are you in ev'rything that your Spirit makes new, now and for all ages to come. The source of this text is unknown. Though appropriate for Pentecost there is no direct connection to the scripture readings or sacramentary prayers for that Feast. The composition was written in the early years succeeding Vatican II (October 11, 1962 – December 8, 1965), a time of creative freedom. The language is period specific to that time, yet the music is universal.Rehearsal recommendation:The verse text is notated in consistent eighth-notes. Do not interpret this to mean that all syllables are to receive equal time.  Speak the text in natural cadence and then sing the pitches in that same natural cadence.  This will best represent Sr. Theophane’s intention. We invite you to browse other creative works by the School Sisters of St. Francis on our website:  https://www.sssf.org/SSSF/Our-Global-Impact/United-States/Music-Ministry/Catalog-of-Music.htm  Further information about our offerings is available from Dr. Sheri Masiakowski, curator of the Heritage Music Collection, at smasiakowski@sssf.org.

Organ - Digital Download SKU: A0.942949 Composed by Aris Antoniades. Contemporary,Sacred. Score. 20 pages. Aris Antoniades #4346549. Published by Aris Antoniades (A0.942949). Toccata & Fugue for Organ (2018)Composed by Aris AntoniadesRunning time: approx. 7' 50'' Writing for Organ always seemed like a very distant dream for me. Born and raised in Cyprus, an isolated Mediterranean island-state in Europe where the religious musical tradition (Greek Orthodox Christianity) relies solely on voices (no instruments used during services), I never had access to an Organ. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, there’s not a single Organ in my entire country. The first time I ever saw one was during my college years in New York – and it was love at first sight! I was fascinated by its sound capabilities, its mechanism, and the sheer skill required to play it. You can, therefore, understand how thrilled I am to have had the opportunity to write for this great instrument. I would like to sincerely thank Shannon Murphy and Austin Philemon for believing in my work, and for commissioning this piece. Both the Toccata and the Fugue are based on the same (but altered) motivic materials. The Toccata is a piece that was inspired by the idea that life is a continuous marathon, represented by the ‘mechanical’ sixteenth-note ostinato figure which never stops – despite the contrapuntal obstacles that are thrown within its path. The motive, however, does transform and adapt along the way, in order to make the best of the situation. The Fugue, on the other hand, represents the cerebral aspect of life: the concept of choices. The ostinato motive of the Toccata has now morphed into the subject of the Fugue, which will be attacked by some violent chromatic enemies. Estimated running time: ca. 8 minutesAbout the PDFs:Score size: 14 PagesContact the composer: https://www.arisantoniades.com or aris.antoniades@gmail.com

Organ,Piano - Digital Download SKU: A0.1072082 Composed by Annie S. Hawks. Arranged by Jacob Hershberger. Christian,Sacred,Spiritual. Accompaniment. Duration 289. Jasberger Music #6009677. Published by Jasberger Music (A0.1072082). Jacob Hershberger performs his new arrangement of I Need Thee Every Hour on both the piano and organ.. Just not at the same time ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3D8ACXhnyU&feature=youtu.beThe softness of the piano and it's marriage to the organ make this a powerful arrangement with a lot of hidden spiritual messages in the arrangement. One such message is the differences in time in some of the organ and piano parts. The organ represents the us in the different stages of our lives. The piano represents Heavenly Father and his constant presence in our lives. He is always there steady and available, all we have to do is sync up with him through prayer and he will lead us ever onward through our mortal sojourn on earth. At the end of the video is the following scripture: Yea, I know that God will give liberally to him that asketh. Yea, my God will give me, if I ask not amiss; therefore I will lift up my voice unto thee; yea, I will cry unto thee, my God, the rock of my righteousness. Behold, my voice shall forever ascend up unto thee, my rock and mine everlasting God. Amen. ~2 Nephi 4:35 I hope you enjoy this beautiful arrangement of I need thee every hour. www.JasbergerMusic.com 1. I need thee ev’ry hour, Most gracious Lord. No tender voice like thine Can peace afford. [Chorus] I need thee, oh, I need thee; Ev’ry hour I need thee! Oh, bless me now, my Savior; I come to thee! 2. I need thee ev’ry hour; Stay thou nearby. Temptations lose their pow’r When thou art nigh. 3. I need thee ev’ry hour, In joy or pain. Come quickly and abide, Or life is vain. 4. I need thee ev’ry hour, Most holy One. Oh, make me thine indeed, Thou blessed Son!

Silence rather is what happens when a person after he has spoken returns to himself and becomes silent. Or when he who could speak remains silent...' It is these words by the Catholic priest and theologian Romano Guardini that the very quiet and meditative organ piece is based on.
