This was done in order to allow the singer to ask questions to a loved one who seems to fail in the return of the love offered by the singer. Yes, it is a song of unrequited love but with a double meaning. It can be understood as a lover trying to encourage the loved one to believe not only in oneself but also to trust in the love the lover has offered. In like manner, it may also be understood as Our Blessed Lord Jesus asking the loved one to trust in Him for true meaning in life. If life is seen as a card game then only God should be your dealer. Somewhere in my mind I felt influenced by Mozart thinking that if he were alive today he might write a pop song with similar chord changes. Before I arrived at mission age I had to make a lot of decisions about whether or not I wanted to go on a mission. There were so many voices calling out to me. The voices promised me scholarships and fame. The voices questioned my logic. The voices tried to make me doubt my motives and character. The voices ridiculed me and my desires to do good. The voices told me that they loved me, but wouldn't wait for me if I went on a mission. All of those voices were demeaning of me if I went on a mission. They also promised me joy, but only if I decided not to go on a mission. I ultimately decided to go on a mission. By going on a mission I was put in a situation where I could testify of God's gospel truths. Those people hearing the truths had the opportunity to pray to God to find out for themselves if what they had been taught was true. Those people that talked to God in prayer joined the church. Why? Because God answered their prayers. Some of those new members went on missions to other lands converting through the spirit of the Holy Ghost others, who in turn went on missions to other lands. The cycle continues. Just one person doing what he knows is right can set off a chain reaction for the good that will go on and on.

This version is in A minor to suit singers with higher voices [the melody extends from D4-D5 for a comfortable soprano range], and has the exact piano accompaniment as well as full melody and lyrics for a soloist or choir. It works well as a solo or congregational song for any autumn or funeral service, featuring the meaningful lyrics of Henry Francis Lyte reminding us of the swiftness of this life, and the hope we have for the life beyond. It works well as a solo or congregational song for any autumn or funeral service, featuring the meaningful lyrics of Henry Francis Lyte reminding us of the swiftness of this life, and the hope we have for the life beyond. Also included at the end of the file is a separate printout of both the piano and vocal parts separately for ease of practice and rehearsal.The original hymn was very beautiful but I thought a minor setting would be more fitting for the solemn lyrics, so I wrote an entirely new melody and harmonic arrangement, which can be found on all streaming platforms as well as Youtube, where lyric videos of this and other songs are readily available for church or personal use. Not just a hymn for September and October, I've found myself going back to this song often, as it captures the rich beauty and yet sadness of the autumn season, and still somehow brings comfort amidst the fast-changing seasons of the earth and of our lives. The song is the second song in a cycle beginning with The Calculus of Division, which centers on a plot by the more advanced centipedes to dominate the millipedes by sowing doubt in math and thereby divide them into factions. While distracted, the carnivorous centipedes will eat the detritivorous—eating organic waste such as rotting wood—millipedes’ young. Interlude and the Cleansing is a story of the Black on Brown faction that is described in the first song as “sustained by fear and dread.†In the song, one of the Black on Browns has been found murdered. The chemical traces of his last thoughts and words are cleansed from his body. The song is the second in a trilogy of songs set in this unforgiving universe.

Warren Hatch, written during his undergraduate study at Campbell University. Each movement is distinct, in that each of them is composed in a different form, utilizes different key changes and scales, and takes influence from a different period in classical music. While there is no theme that connects them to one another, they are all in the key of E Major and consist mostly of a waltz-like feeling. III. A Reflection of Passing depicts the shifting aspects about death as a person matures. It’s a piece that came from a time of great loss and much grieving. It begins with an innocent, hopeful understanding of death, followed by a major tone shift, where there is an odd utilization of the piano: the performer sings into the piano while holding down the sustain pedal, which vibrates certain overtones, producing what sounds like a distant choir. The piece closes with a triumphant, hopeful melody, borrowed from a song written by S. Warren Hatch when he was in high school.Composer Notes- Be sure to ensure that the stage hands lift the piano lid before the sonata’s start, as the strings will need to be exposed in order for you to sing into the piano’s body during A Reflection of Passing. For that section (page 22) you will need to face and sing directly into the strings while holding down the sustain pedal for the entire page. If you are playing with the sheet music (don’t worry, I’m not shaming you) simply slide the music holder in order to expose the part of the strings that are closest to you. For this sonata, I encourage you to find your own voice in these pieces. Your own interpretation should align with how you most relate to the message/story they’re telling. This could be using the una corda (leftmost) pedal during lighter sections to further differentiate them, or having a heavier rubato to strengthen the impact of certain phrases. As long as you bring these pieces to life, then it has my stamp of approval.

For a song such as this, the melody couldn't be more well-written. It is simple enough for most anyone to follow it, and yet reaches to places that inspire the hope that you wish to bring out in this song. As it kicks up a notch at the end, we can hear a huge chorus singing it loudly, shaking the rafters, perhaps in a church, or at a rally. We can't say enough about this lyric. It is deceptively simple, but yet reaches around the world! Who (anywhere, or in any walk of life) could disagree with any of these lines? This verse (in particular) has a way of saying something that we've never quite heard put this way before: Everyone's a brother, Or a sister that you meet.
