Here’s a new SSA choir arrangement of that ever-popular American folksong Shenandoah.  The original song probably has its origins among the French Canadians who traded with Native Americans around the Great Lakes during the sixteenth century. These traders exchanged weapons and tools for animal furs, especially beaver pelts. Paddling their canoes along the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers the traders were well-known for their singing. However, as most of the traders were illiterate, the songs were never written down and went through numerous changes over the years and centuries. In most versions of the song, the lyrics tell of a seafarer, possibly a canoeing fur-trader, who was in love with the daughter of Shenandoah, a Native American Chief who lived in what is now the state of Virginia. Shenandoah was a real person: evidently an individual of commanding presence who lived for over a hundred years. Shenandoah became one of the most popular capstan shanties, a slow song which set a manageable pace for the crew in a heavy and lengthy task. Most versions of the song have a similar couplet at the end of each verse. In some transcriptions, the melody is written out entirely in 4/4 time; others use triple time and some arrangements use a mixture of both. In this version, the lyrics have been selected from different versions of the song. This SSA arrangement for choir and piano is conceived for boy choir or girl choir and within easy technical reach of amateur or school choirs. The top soprano note is high F on the treble staff and the other parts fall well within the usual choral range. Each section of the choir takes the melody at some point. With a running time of 04:00 this piece is enjoyable to sing and hear. It’s an essential addition to your choir’s repertoire.

Agnus Dei - Choral Arrangement for SSA and Piano arranged by Michael Thomas CoullAgnus Dei is the Latin name under which the 'Lamb of God' is honoured within the Roman Catholic church, descending from the Latin tradition.  It is the name given to a specific prayer that occurs in the church liturgy, and the music that accompanies the text of this prayer.  The use of the title 'Lamb of God' is based on John 1:29, in which St John the Baptist, upon seeing the Saviour proclaims 'Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!' This arrangement of Michael W Smith’s Agnus Dei is based on the version that popular American singer/songwriter Amy Grant released on her third seasonal holiday album in 1999. This inspirational arrangement for SSA choir and piano accompaniment can be performed at any time of the year. The use of open fifths and fourths give the harmonies a sacred 'medieval' feeling, that will impress and fill any audience with awe.Also available for SATB.

It was inspired by the Indigenous American all-female group Ulali and the tradition of inter-tribal songs within this culture. The pieces are connected not only by the folk style and the star subject, but also by tracing the course of a day, and by focusing on the connection of the outer world to the inner soul.I. Bright Morning Stars-- An additive processional on the ultimate theme of children singing. Though the traditional verses state that the fathers are down in the valley a-prayin''' and the mothers have gone to heaven a-shoutin' (or vice versa), the lyrics have been freely adapted in the folk tradition of floating verses (adapting lyrics to personal experience) to describe the children's experience. The opening percussion motif is intended to evoke Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man.II. Oh, Watch the Stars-- Oh, Watch the Stars and Great Big Stars, combined in unique ways. The two songs used, Oh, Watch the Stars and Great Big Stars, are distinct in their own right. They have been fused together in this movement, borrowing the text from one and using the tune from the other, and modifying one to partner with the other when presented simultaneously.
