It gained even more popularity upon being featured in Walt Disney films “So Dear to My Heart†in 1948 and “Cinderella†in 2015. All parts may be played on Lever (Celtic) harp or Pedal harp. This arrangement may be played as an easy solo by only harp 1 (omit the measures of rest at the beginning and end), but is especially charming with the addition of the intermediate harp 2 part. For example, a teacher may play the harp 2 part to accompany harp 1, making a lovely recital piece for a beginning student. The harp 1 part includes lyrics so that it may (optionally) be sung by the harp 1 player. The optional harp 3 part is even easier than harp 1, and may be played by another beginning student. Cello or bassoon may be substituted for harp 3.

While all eight of these Celtic holidays may not be truly ancient, several of them certainly are; some, like Samhain, have had Christianizing veils cast over them but have kept many of the pre-Christian customs associated with their celebration. Interested harpists will find a wealth of available information about these holidays, their names, and their customs. Imbolc, February 1st or 2nd, is also the Feast of St. Bridget or Brigid and is associated with the ancient goddess of that name in Celtic mythology.Ostara is the name sometimes given to the neo-Celtic celebration of the Spring Equinox. This piece depicts the dawn of the day and of the year. Beltaine, the joyous celebration of spring’s warmth and wealth of flowers and new greenery, occurs on the first day of May. The longest day of the year and the shortest night mark the Summer Solstice-Midsummer. Since long before Shakespeare’s funny and lyrical play A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the Summer Solstice has been associated with magic.Lughnasadh, on August 1st, is the festival of the first harvest. A version of the name of this festival survives in Manx and Scots Gaelic as well as in Irish Gaelic, and the name itself derives from Lugh, one of the most important Celtic godsMabon marks the Autumn Equinox and the end of summer; for me, it is a wistful moment of the year-extremely beautiful yet transitory. Samhain is one of the most significant celebrations in the Celtic year- the word itself means the end of summer, the beginning of the dark part of the year. It survives even in non-Celtic countries as Halloween, thanks to its adoption into the Christian calendar as All Hallows’ Eve. It is said to be the time when the veils between this world and the next are at their most thin.The Winter Solstice is marked in many European cultures as a time for celebrating the birth of the new light and a time for decorating with evergreens like holly. For The Holly King, modal and traditional versions of the carol The Holly and the Ivy, were used because of the lyrics’ references to the rising of the sun, and the running of the deer.

All tunes were typeset to fit exactly on two facing pages to eliminate any page turns within a piece. If desired, the length of each piece can be lengthened by repeating some sections; section divisions are indicated by light double bar lines. Many people are unaccustomed to hearing tunes based on modes other than the Ionian or Aeolian. Therefore, you may find some of the melodic contours or harmonies to be unusual, unexpected, or even uncomfortable. There are only three lever changes in this entire book – and they all occur on the last note of the piece. Guitar chords are included so that the melody may be played by any C instrument, accompanied by chords on harp, lute, guitar, or keyboard. Also, the transcribed harp part can be played on any keyboard instrument with only minoradjustments.Dynamics, fingering, and metronome markings are provided throughout as an aid to performance. However, the harper should use whatever dynamics, fingerings, and tempos suit them, no matter what this book indicates! The maximum range needed for each piece is only 26 strings (3.5 octaves) from low C to high G. Therefore, it can be played on a small harp encompassing that range. Simply treat the C two octaves below middle C as the lowest C on your harp and adjust the octaves accordingly. Ignore any 8va indications and shorten glissandos as needed.

Luis Anjos Teixeira #4736137. Published by Luis Anjos Teixeira (A0.889432). I found this Passacaglia from Bach among some of my own handwritten manuscripts. It is a phenomenal piece. Bach was definitive a great artist, a Genius. Passacaglia is an Italian word. This music form was originated in early 17th-century Spain as a strummed interlude between instrumentally accompanied dances or songs. In this piece we can clearly experience this „Spanish strumming between „Bars 137 and 145. The passacaglia was redefined in the late 1620s by Italian composer Girolamo Frescobaldi, who transformed it into a series of continuous variations over an ostinato bass pattern (which itself may be varied). I added to this piece some interpretation symbols and rearranged it for the harp but every single note was left as it would be found in the original version. The piece is appropriate for advanced performers. Most of the score is left to the interpretation of the artists involved, particularly the use of fingering. The piece is difficult but very Human. It requires focused endurance and some practice on certain passages. Once learned you will also be playing much better. Feel Free to apply in this piece the Art and technic that expresses entirely your individual skills and taste. Have fun! It is a piece that can be used in many different kinds of situations, from a serious concert hall to a marriage, it is perfect for Christmas celebrations and all other kinds of Spiritual events. When performed Live It will give you back a great feedback from the public, you will always want to have it in your repertoire. The score was written on Finale. The sound file is the version in D minor for a concert harp, it was produced with samplers from Garritan and conceived merely as an audio support for the presentation of this score. It is available in two tuning versions, Eb major and C major, in order to accommodate the most common tunings used by folk harpers. (Harpers who tune in Bb may also use the Eb version.) Pedal harpists may use either tuning, although Eb is recommended for a richer sound. In addition to being interesting selections for pleasure or performance, these pieces teach students contemporary harp techniques in an enjoyable way. Each piece makes an interesting duet if two harps alternate some measures (or sections) in a kind of echo effect. In addition, an ensemble of harpers or harpists may play the entire trilogy simultaneously.The total range required to play all pieces (in both keys) is four and one-half octaves, from low C to high G (33 strings). All harmonics are to be played on the string indicated and not down the octave. Metronome markings are approximations only. Feel free to use choose your own tempos or re-arrange each selection to your liking.

It can be played on a lap harp model as small as 26 strings, like the Harpsicle Fullsicle that I am playing in the video, or on a larger floor harp. Your model must have levers, though, as the melody changes keys repeatedly and so relies on several quick lever changes.The lowest note is the E below middle C and the highest is the G two octaves above middle C. As such, it should work on many common small or lap harp models, including Harpsicle harps, some Roosebeck Pakistani harps (depending on the range), Dusty Strings Ravenna 26, Marini Made lap harps, Heartland Harps Air Serenity, and many others. As noted above, it can also work on a larger floor harp with levers.The piece is light, quick, and repetative. By far the hardest element in my opinion is the succession of levers changes in the melody, though these come easier with practice. But less experienced harpists may also want to take into account that there are a few harmonics, played on both hands, in the middle section, and that the song will sound odd if these are omitted.Please note that the preview cuts off after the first half page of score. If you are comfortable with more complex rhythms, however, you could play this piece with a lower technical proficiency, maybe even somewhere in the range of late-beginner or early intermediate.
