(Spanish below) Since this mythical series premiered, it has appeared more and more in the events in which the Nonamé String Quartet participates with its main theme music. But as it progressed, we wanted to take a truly differential step forward. We use the music from the opening scene of the first episode of the fourth season (Two Swords) which leads inevitably into the traditional opening music, as Tywin melts Ice into Widow's Lament and Oathkeeper. We start with the Lannisters theme (the Rains of Castamere) on cello, later accompanied by viola. A general crescendo leaves us with the main theme, transcribed as best as possible from Ramin Djawadi's masterful header. The violin can do pizz on the last phrase, or not play it at all. Arrangement on a single page to facilitate its interpretation outdoors. Bowings and dynamics to facilitate a good sightreading. All set to recreate the Red Wedding in your performances! Pero según fue avanzando quisimos dar un paso adelante realmente diferencial. Utilizamos la música de la escena preliminar del primer capÃtulo de la cuarta temporada (Two Swords) que desemboca irremediablemente en la música de cabecera tradicional, mientras Tywin funde Hielo para convertirla en Lamento de Viuda y Guardajuramentos. Duration: 6'50 Program notes: Corpo Confesso is part of a larger group of pieces, all of them carrying the word corpo (from portuguese, body). Overall, these works seek to synthesize, from the authors' perspective, two of ways in which one can look at acoustic ensembles: both through their sheer physical reality and through the referential corpus we inherit from their literature. Intimate in character, Corpo Confesso invites the listener to closely experience a multitude of instrumental surfaces. These glances are made possible through a plethora of performative techniques that also draw attention to the intense choreography intrinsic to the stage. This work is a short waltz, written with the intent of sounding both pretty and soothing.As crazy as it may seem, inspiration for this piece came from its composer being passionately kissed by a girl at the cast party for a stage show, which he was in the cast of. She happened to be wearing blue face-paint at the time, and at one point, with her finger, she smeared some of it onto his face, leaving a faint blue stripe. Although the two of them did not end up dating, it still made for a beautiful piece of music.The Blue Stripe was performed (in a slightly different arrangement) for the first time ever by Binghamton University's Explorchestra, on 2 December 2017.

The String Quartet no II comprises four movements: 1. Preludio, Passacaglia, Minuetto and Trio and Rondo. The first movement is fast and furious and cast in a modified sonata form - announcing two contrasting themes with a transitional section in between. The development section fulfills the role of various transformations and fragmental modifications of segmented thematic material, adding instabitily to the movement. The recapitulation is truncated, rather referential to the exposition and presented in reversed order. The second movement is a plaintive passacaglia, with a recurring eight-bar melody - in this case not traditional in nature as the bassline mostly carried the melody throughout, but nw distributed between all the string instuments. The theme is heard fourteen times. The use of textural contrast and canonic procedures add to the contrapuntal nature of the movement. The Minuetto and Tro movement is strikingly neo-tonal, and but sudden shifts of scalar centricities in the Minuetto add to suspension and elements of surprise. The Trio is more lyrical in character and fluttering fragments create dialogue between the members of the quartet. The last movement is cast in a modified Rondo form. The refrain parts are continuously presented in different textural and harmonic content. The alternating first episode draws material from the first movement and the second from the third movement, resulting in a cyclic structure of the work as a whole. The musical language is loosely based within extended tonality, with modal intersections and dissonant colours, making consonant sonoroties slightly ambiguous and unpredictable.2016 Chamber Music Contest Entry.

It soon went on to become the best-selling digital track of the 20th century and was named one of Rolling Stone's Greatest Songs Of All Time -- so you really can't go wrong having this one in your gig books! This Cellobat arrangement for your string quartet was originally written for a wedding reception, and with its powerful driving beat, catchy hooks, and soaring melodies, you're sure to get everyone singing along! I have played this song hundreds of times in my career, so I wanted to make my arrangement different -- I got tired of all the extensions and intonation issues in the song's original key of EM, so this version is actually transposed down to CM. But as it progressed, we wanted to take a truly differential step forward. We use the music from the opening scene of the first episode of the fourth season (Two Swords) which leads inevitably into the traditional opening music, as Tywin melts Ice into Widow's Lament and Oathkeeper. We start with the Lannisters theme (the Rains of Castamere) on cello, later accompanied by viola. A general crescendo leaves us with the main theme, transcribed as best as possible from Ramin Djawadi's masterful header. The violin can do pizz on the last phrase, or not play it at all. More than just colleagues, they have become my friends: I've traveled with them, performed with them, watched them rehearse, dined with them in their homes and they in mine; I know their children and they know my children. Throughout the time I've known the members of the quartet I have observed the relationship between them, that special bond shared by the members of any touring band, described by one pundit as being like a bad marriage with no sex. Such issues notwithstanding, this particular marriage works. A string quartet represents, perhaps, the ultimate musical compromise between individual incentive and the common good. In a string quartet, by definition, four distinct instrumental voices and four different instrumental roles unite to create a whole greater than its parts. And, lest we forget, behind each instrument is a person, with his own particular attitudes, feelings, needs, and, yes, issues, all of which must be tempered and blended for the common good of a good performance. Among Friends is, its liberties aside, about the four people behind the instruments of the Alexander String Quartet and their relationships with one another; the way they play, rehearse, get along and, on occasion, not get along. The first movement, With Friends Like These is gritty and contentious in tone. The players argue, debate, annoy, tease, irk, cajole, abuse, harass, form brief alliances, heap merde upon, gang up on, and otherwise find endless ways to irritate each other. It is in this movement that the individual characters of the four instrumental parts stand in highest relief: the first violin as coloratura prima donna, forever attempting to soar above it all; the second violin as the voice in the wilderness, the viola as the voice of reason and the 'cello as mover and shaker. The opening of the movement is marked argument in progress; with greatest intensity. The second, third and fourth movements are a series of portraits, played without a break. In movement two, Inner Voices, the second violin and viola are featured in a collegial and decidedly non-contentious dialogue. Movement three, Little Hands and Little Feet, is the quiet center of the quartet. It is here that the first violin finally attains the lyric heights vainly sought in the first movement. The fourth movement is a vigorous dance entitled Freund Barry. This movement honors three great friends: Dr. Barry Gardiner, whose friendship and support made the writing of this quartet possible; Gustav Mahler, whose Symphony No. 4, second movement (Freund Heine) inspired this one; and Sandy Wilson, who first encouraged me to compose my second string quartet (Child's Play) for the Alexander in 1987 and whose boisterous 'cello is Freund Barry's alter-ego. The fifth movement is entitled Friendly Persuasion. Rapid fire repeated notes, accompanimental figures and melodic lines are shuttled about from voice to voice, each time elaborated or altered in some way. In this way the music slowly metamorphoses, ultimately arriving at a version of the argumentative music that concluded the first movement. Movement six, All For One and One For All is a fast, brief coda/finale, during which the quartet plays primarily in unison, the musical antithesis of the contentious argument that began the quartet. In no way does the title refer to the technical demands of the piece, which are considerable. Rather, it refers to the endlessly imaginative, energized, and constantly changing play that might be engaged in by four different, though like-minded children. Indeed, the inspiration for the quartet was my then two-year-old daughter Rachel, whose boundless energy and capacity for play I found (and still find) rather terrifying. Child's Play consists of three movements: Games (fast), Intermezzo: Sogni d'Oro (Dreams of Gold) (slow), and Dances (very fast). In Games, four energetic and well-rested players leap out of the starting blocks together and engage in sport of various kinds: running games, chasing games, teasing games, tag, echo games (Simon Says), races, and so forth, eventually returning to the unison from which they began. Intermezzo: Sogni d'Oro (Dreams of Gold) offers a quiet, episodic, dreamlike respite from the frenetic mood of Games. In Dances, the energized character of the first movement resumes, only faster. Dances is a perpetual motion movement in three parts, with a slower, more fragmented middle section sandwiched between a boisterous and frenzied dance of life. This movement ends much in the same way as the first movement began, bringing the circuit of the piece to a close. Child's Play was commissioned by, and is dedicated, with many thanks and great appreciation, to the Alexander String Quartet.

The title of the article was These Sculptures Changed What Art Could Be, Then Changed Themselves. It described how the five works on display were very different from what they looked like back in the late 1960's when they were exhibited at MOMA, the Guggenheim, Leo Castelli, and other museums. On Amazon I bought a huge two-volume book of all her paintings and sculptures. And I also bought a book of diaries that she kept from 1955 to 1970.
