Published by Helen Marple-Horvat (A0.749231). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0gGRv9QE8g‘Don’t want to miss a thing’, recorded by Aerosmith, and written by Diane Warren is a hugely popular rock ballad that was a number one hit in the USA. Selling over a million copies in the UK, it reached number four in the UK singles chart. Always a favourite for weddings, Capriccio Quartet recorded it for their repertoire, and it is a song that easily lends itself to a string arrangement.I chose to stick to the original key of D, a great key for string players. At times I have thickened the texture by using double stopping. In this arrangement I have tried to use an open string wherever possible. In some cases there are bare fifths. If you prefer you can choose one of the notes to play instead, especially if this note is doubled in another part. I have also put in some bowing, but the endgame is to feel comfortable, so please feel free to change it and alter the slurring if it makes it easier. I have given the cellist some solos, but everyone in the quartet has some time in the sun in this arrangement. And don’t be afraid to use open strings in this piece, especially in the semi- quavers. They sound great!I am aiming this quartet at the professional market, for weddings and other events, but I am hopeful that younger players will also have the courage to try it, even if the intention is not to ever perform it but to have some fun! My arrangement is written for a professional, experienced ensemble. I always try to bring up the strengths of the string quartet instrumentation and I am not afraid to alter the original as an arranger, because every instrumentation is calling for a different approach. Second a string quartet can not copy the power of a full Rock-band, so you have to substitute that power with rafinesse.

When I firsdt heard the original I was immediately touched by the melancholic and romantic expression. My arrangement is written for professional ensembles and requires experienced players. In my opinion a good arrangement have to consider the characteristics of the desired instrumentation, so don't expect just a note-for-note copy of the original. Since I am specialised on string quartet I try to implement the strengths of this famous instrumentation: Equal handling of the four voices, dialectic interaction and use of the complete tonal range. I am also not afraid of reharmonisation and other arranging-techniques to achieve a convincing result.
