String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1335319 Composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908). Arranged by Stephen Levintow. 19th Century,Romantic Period. 19 pages. Cypress Publishing #921151. Published by Cypress Publishing (A0.1335319). An excerpt from Sheherazade, the most famous and best loved orchestral work by the great nineteenth century Russian composer Rimsky-Korsakov. It works the best for string quartet of any of the movements.CYPRESS PUBLISHING is pleased to be the imprint for arrangements for string ensemble by Stephen Levintow. He is a free lance professional violist and violinist specializing in chamber music, who began making string quartet and trio arrangements for wedding, party and corporate events, to expand the repertory or to improve on existing versions. Selections include unusual pieces by both familiar and lesser-known composers, plus standard classical and popular favorites. The goal is to produce high-quality, musically satisfying arrangements faithful to the composer’s original material, yet sight-readable in most cases by working professionals or intermediate to advanced students. The full range of normal string technique is employed, while avoiding unnecessary technical complexity. Melodic material is distributed throughout the four voices where appropriate, to maintain listener and performer interest. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Renaissance. 7 pages. Jmsgu3 #886460. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1296215). Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck was a Dutch organist and composer who lived from April 1562 to October 16, 1621. He was born and died in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Sweelinck's first published works date from around 1592-94, and he composed a variety of music, including chansons and keyboard music. He was known for his keyboard playing and was a teacher to German composers Samuel Scheidt and Heinrich Scheidemann.  Sweelinck's Echo Fantasias are significant for several reasons:Innovative composition: Echo Fantasias were a unique form of composition during Sweelinck's time, blending elements of traditional fantasias with passages dedicated to echo effects. This experimental approach showcased Sweelinck's creativity and willingness to push the boundaries of musical expression. Emphasis on the moment: Unlike Sweelinck's larger fantasias, the construction of Echo Fantasias was less strict, focusing more on the immediate musical experience rather than the overall design. This emphasis on the moment allowed for greater freedom and spontaneity in the performance of these pieces. Stylistic range: Echo Fantasias encompassed a wide range of styles, juxtaposing fantasia-like elements with passages dedicated to echo effects. This stylistic diversity added depth and complexity to Sweelinck's compositions, making them engaging and intriguing for both performers and listeners.

The Princess And The Pea: A Classic Tale For Narrator And String Quartet

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1…

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1474715 Composed by James Smith. 19th Century,Chamber,Children,Comedy,Contemporary. 19 pages. Ensemble Llama Music #1052283. Published by Ensemble Llama Music (A0.1474715). The Princess and the Pea is a literary fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. It is a story about a princess who is tested to become wife to a lonely prince. The tale was first published in 1835 in Copenhagen. In this work, the tale is presented by a narrator, with the wind quintet bringing the story to life in a musical way. This selection comes with a full score with cues for the narrator, parts for the ensemble, and a narrator's script that features ensemble cues to help align the story and music together properly. There are many features in this work that are sure to interest audiences of all ages. Different motifs are used to differentiate between characters and settings. The ensemble may find an opportunity to invite the audience to actively listen to these themes. This selection also features the use of props - a cutting board (preferably with a cutout area to grip the board easily) and an inflated latex balloon are required to make various sound effects. There are several other ways the ensemble and narrator could use props or costumes to bring the story to life, and offer some humorous moments as well. This work is quite different, but serves as a fresh selection for any concert.
