Cello Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596426 Composed by Daniel Hay. Classical,Contemporary,Multicultural,World. Individual part. 1 pages. Daniel Hay Music #5741937. Published by Daniel Hay Music (A0.596426). When composing this solo piece the composer, Daniel Hay was thinking of massive troll-like creatures ponderously stomping around a bonfire. Perhaps the image is better if you think of drunk sumo fighters dancing around rising flames. Most of the time when the composer uses repeats he labels them with an uppercase letter to identify them, followed by a hyphen and a lowercase letter showing where the repeat leads. Occasionally, as in The Dance of the Stone Trolls, there is also a lowercase letter within parentheses which is used to indicate an optional location to repeat from either at the first pass or possible as a second pass. The attached YouTube link is performed on Tenor Recorder by the composer during a rehearsal. The sound file here is presented in Cello voice. Looking forward to hearing a Trombone play this.

Cello - Digital Download SKU: A0.1071462 Composed by Richard Roderick Jones. Contemporary. Full Performance. Duration 755. Jacominus Publishing #3604701. Published by Jacominus Publishing (A0.1071462). Sea Dances for solo 'Cello played by Richard Jenkinson. 12:35 minutesSea Dances is cast in two movements, each in two sections. In the first movement, 'Allegretto - pochissimo piu mosso' the two sections are similar in tempo although the second section is a little more agitated. In the second movement, 'Lento - Brioso' the tempo contrasts are far greater. The piece was written in Charmouth, Dorset. While it doesn't attempt to portray images directly connected with the Dorset coastline, the location of its composition has a natural link with the sea and the atmosphere in Dorset. The piece was commissioned by the Department for Continuing Education at Cardiff University and written for Richard Jenkinson who gave its first performance in South Wales (UK) in 1998. He has held principal cello posts with the Irish Chamber Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. This recording was made in 2014. www.richardroderickjones.com .

Gabrieli: Canzon Septimi Toni Ch 172 for Cello Choir

Cello - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549203 Composed by Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Renaissance,Standards. 58 pages. Jmsgu3 #3461839. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549203). Instrumentation: 8 Cellos arranged in two choirs. Full Score: 28 pg. Study Score: 14 pg. Parts: 2 pg. ea. Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and certainly instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and likewise reverberation for maximum effect. Seems like Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was rather the first to indicate them such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He therefore developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style. Polychoral Works Gabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He certainly used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Certainly, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, then consequently followed by a response from the group on the other side. Sometimes there was probably a third group positioned near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather than two groups. The instruments, because they could be appropriately situated, could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements that seem bizarre on paper, can in contrast sound perfectly in balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets along with his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Seems like Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material but developing it through sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – which calls Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

One of Boccherinis most famous and performed works, La Musica Notturna delle Strade di Madrid describes the bustling streets of night-time Madrid.About the composition, critic Jaume Tortella writes:“Taking its inspiration from nocturnal street scenes of Madrid, it seems to look back nostalgically to the gaiety and bustle of Spain’s capital, recalling the sound of the city’s church bells ringing for evening prayer, the popular dances that were the delight of its young people, and the blind beggars singing their typical viellas de rueda until the soldiers from the local garrison sound the midnight curfew with their Retreat.â€Arranged from the original string quintet for cello octet.

Jean Daniel Braun: 5 Unaccompanied Suites for Solo Cello

Composed by Jean Daniel Braun. Arranged by Adam Riggs. Baroque. Individual part. 84 pages. AR Publications #4595589. Published by AR Publications
Jean Daniel Braun is not a composer whose works are widely performed, nor is there much information about his life and compositions. The date and location of his birth are not well documented, but it is thought that he was born in Alsace, the eastern-most region of France. His death was recorded as occurring on April 2, 1738, making his birth likely in the late 17thcentury. In his autobiography, Johann Joachim Quantz mentions meeting Jean Daniel Braun and his brother, Jean Frédéric Braun, during his six-month visit to Paris between August 1726 and March 1727, which is really the only affirmative mention about Braun and his activities during his lifetime. In addition to being active as a flutist and composer, Jean Daniel Braun was also a music publisher in Paris, the result of his receiving a ten-year royal privilege to print several of his own works. This royal privilege, which served as an early form of copyright, allowed him to publish his first collection; a set of Sonatas for Flute with Basso Continuo in 1728. He went on to publish ten more collections of his own compositions, the majority of which were for flute and continuo, with some notable exceptions, including a set of 6 sonatas for two bassoons or other bass instruments. Jean Daniel did not personally publish the last volume of his works, Sonata a flûte traversière et basse suivie de differentes pièces sans basse[1]it is thought that Jean Frédéric Braun discovered the manuscript, assumed them to be composed by his brother, and saw them to publication under his brother’s name.[2] <br> <br> These suites, while not originally written for cello, sound well-suited to the instrument and present some unique technical challenges that do not normally present themselves in the cello repertoire, including multiple rapid shifts in quick succession and rapid large interval leaps. In the 18th century, it was very common for works to be transcribed for and performed on other instruments. Braun's novel use of a treble clef in one key and a bass clef in another at the beginning line of each of the 5 suites (the 2nd Suite excepted, however, it does have a note for bass instruments to transpose to the appropriate key at the beginning), is proof that Braun did not have a single instrument in mind for these suite. It is therefore fitting that these suites should and can be performed on the cello.<br> <br> There are two versions of the suites in this edition. The first is as it appears in the edition at the Bibliotheque Nationale de France (Paris). The bowed version provides the editors suggested bowings that are more suited to performance on cello. <br> <br> <br> <br> [1]David A Wells, liner notes from Twenty Four Solos by Jean-Daniel Braun, Nadina Makie Jackson, 2011<br> [2]Jean Daniel Braun, Sonata a flûte trabersière et basse suivie de differentes pièces sans basse.
