by RBMusic“Locusiste” is a sacred motet composed by Anton Bruckner on 11 August 1869. The Latintext is used for the annual celebration of a church's dedication. The incipit translatesto "This place was made by God", with the text concentrating on theconcept of the sacred place, based on the Biblical story of Jacob's Ladder,Jacob's saying "Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not"(Genesis 28:16), and the story of the burning bush where Moses is told"put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standestis holy ground" (Exodus 3:5).
Brucknerset it for four unaccompanied voices, intended for the dedication of theVotivkapelle at the New Cathedral in Linz, Austria, where Bruckner had been acathedral organist from 1855 to 1868. It was the first motet that Brucknercomposed in Vienna. It was published in 1886, together with three other gradualmotets, and was premiered on 29 October 1869.
